Name: Ansem
Nickname: Xehanort's Heartless, Xemnas' Other, Master Ansem.
Organization XIII or Dark XII Nickname: Seeker of Darkness
Age: Unknown, possibly his late 20's or early 30's.
Gender: Male
Species: Heartless
Position: Darkest.
Powers: Ansem is quite possibly the strongest user of Darkness there has ever been, most certainly in recent history. He bends the element to his will, and commands legions of the Heartless creatures to do his bidding (but gives his subbordinate's the clemency to control their own as well). Unaided by his Guardian, he will use Dark Aura, the use of dark flame as a projectile, as his main solo unarmed attack.
He will rarely attack physically in combat, instead he leaves that to his Heartless compatriot and companion, the Dark Guardian, who stands by behind Ansem until ordered to attack with its large and musculare body, parry attacks by acting as a living shield and taking blows for his master, lobbing discs of Dark energy with both hands at opponents, or using his own body as a ram with Ansem behind him both directing the Guardian and keeping himself from harm. Ansem is also able to wield Dark Portals for use to both himself and his Guardian. He uses these across the floor of a battle area, the Guardian springing forth and attacking whomever is foolish enough to stand atop his trap, all the while Ansem stands aside, letting his minion do the dirty work.
In rare instances when the Dark Guardian is unavaliable (Ansem will send it ahead for recon and surveillance in areas enshrouded in Light), Ansem wields a double-bladed weapon similar to the Soul-Eater. Wielding the weapon with brutal efficiency and a flourish, oddly enough he prefers NOT to use it, instead relying on lesser Heartless, or words alone to manipulate people into doing his bidding. This is largely on account of his self-image and ego. Ansem will not debase himself through unnecessary combat, and seeks to impose his will and the power of Darkness over all others, be it through the Guardian or his corruptive doublespeak.
Weapon: In dire situations, he can summon forth a double-bladed polearm, similar in appearance to Riku's former weapon, the Soul-Eater, with which he is highly capable at using to great effect. The weapon seems to be made of Dark energy, and can be summoned and unsummoned much like the Keyblade, and other weapons Heartless and Nobodies may use. Though, most times he prefers enforcing his will over his Dark Guardian to do most of the work.
Picture: Appearance: Physically, he is near identical to his original self, “Xehanort“, of particular note are his tanned skin and long white hair, which strongly opposes his natural belief that Darkness overpowers all. A long coat, black and buckled throughout the body and sleeves and white on the tail (not unlike a lab jacket, perhaps) with a red-lined interior covers his black pants and knee-high boots, oddly of the same design as those of the Organization XIII members, and white button-up shirt, which hangs mostly open, leaving much of his toned chest bare for all to see. Despite the numerous buckles and clasps on his jacket, the only thing that keeps it strapped it the insignia of the Heartless, which acts as a brooch near his neck. His hands are covered in white, wide-brimmed gloves, buttoned to keep in place. In most instances, his face is calm, matter-of-fact, and stern. However, his belief in the Darkness will illicit looks of near-crazed proportions whenever its power is called to question.
Personality: A veritable library of knowledge when it comes to the Heart, and Darkness. While the true power of Light eludes him, he is nonetheless under the full belief that the Heart's true essence resides in Darkness, and the power it can gain through it. Acting almost as a pastor of the Light's antihesis, Ansem is very talented at spreading its message and preaching its power to snuff out all things, which shall lead, inevitably, to Darkness conquering all Worlds, regardless of how bright they are. His keen mind, once belonging to a scientist, is also very coniving and tactical. He will try and split his opponents apart before attacking them headlong, Guardian or no. Ansem hates the Light utterly. His submersion in the Darkness is so total that there are times when, faced with the Light of a powerful source (such as a Heart), he will retreat, reacting much like a vampire would at the sight of the sun. Accordingly, he is quick to hunt out and snuff out the brightest Lights he comes across, usually through the actions of his Dark XII, or Heartless armies.
Original World: Destiny Islands/Land of Departure/Radiant Garden. There are varying tales of his origin, though he is mum as to which is correct.
Current World: The World That Never Was.
Video Game: Kingdom Hearts
History: Serving under the original Ansem, wise ruler of the World of Radiant Garden, Xehanort was a highly promising pupil of the Lord, and the brightest of his six students. When research on matters of the Heart arose, Xehanort was more than intrigued, he became nigh-obsessed with unlocking the true potential the vessels carried, increasingly so with the near-complete susceptibility to the element of Darkness and corruption.
When Ansem the Wise forbid him from continuing his inquests, Xehanort disobeyed, carrying on his experiments behind Ansem's back and under his nose, flanked by the Wise Ansem’s other students. Together, the six of them, one by one, gave their Hearts to science, losing them to Darkness.
This was not the end for Xehanort, however. Taking his master's name and forging ahead under his legacy, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness would travel from world to world, absorbing the knowledge and tales, slowly but surely finding what it is he would truly need: Kingdom Hearts, the Heart of all Worlds. For a while, Ansem would lose his body to the Darkness that both ate at him and empowered him, until the day he could manipulate the poor boy Riku into handing his over, all the while tricking and directing the witch Maleficent and her Hellfire Club into collecting the Princesses of Heart and opening the doorway to Kingdom Hearts, allowing Ansem to return to a full physical being without expending his own power to come so far. His return complete, the Seeker of Darkness now had the Heart of all Worlds within his grasp.
Fate would have other plans. Even as Ansem seemed to take Riku's body, Sora, Wielder of the keyblade, would soon arrive, dealing a critical defeat in Ansem's quest, and proving the true nature of Kingdom Hearts, not that of everlasting Darkness, but the Light of hope. Defeated, but not extinguished, Ansem would slowly manage to reform within the Heart of his former vessel, Riku. Narrowly evading Ansem's grasp, Riku took to Twilight, exiling Ansem from his Heart, though taking his form when the boy gave in to the Darkness to aide Sora by defeating Roxas.
Not long after the defeat of Organization XIII, the hundreds, if not thousands, of scattered Hearts left behind by Ansem the Wise's failed attempt at capturing Kingdom Hearts as data would lie waiting in the dark and corrupt World That Never Was, gathering in the streets while Nobodies scurried to gather them. In the shadow of Memory's Skyscraper, the location where Riku took on the Seeker of Darkness's appearance, the taint of Ansem's dark touch began to grow once more, finally returning and aiming to reclaim Kingdom Hearts, and attempt to corrupt young Riku once more.
His goal is to reclaim everything and submerge it into complete Darkness. A Darkness so black even Kingdom Hearts itself would be drowned by it’s depth. Through the collective known as the Dark XII, Ansem plans to gather the strongest and darkest hearts and souls under his banner, and assault the Worlds one by one, surrounding them all, engulfing them in shadow, before setting his sights on the two crown jewels of Light-aligned Worlds, Castle Disney, and Destiny Islands.
Role Playing Sample: The Castle of Abyss towered over the skyscrapers that leapt from the horizon of the World That Never Was. A pincushion arced skywards on this cold desolate world. And high in the castle’s towers, on a magnificent black throne, sat Ansem. A lazy posture to him as he slouched in his oversized chair, his fingers draped together in front of his nose as he gazed out the large balcony before him. Miles into the distance, the Castle That Never Was taunted him. It’s gleaming white and pearly visage starkly contrasting the rest of the landscape.
He wanted it gone. Erased from the face of this world. The Nobodies were abominations. Mistakes. An accident that nature continued to allow. They didn’t belong in the Light, and they certainly did not belong here. Twilight was too good for them. But his own scattered XII would not be enough to send them back to the oblivion that spawned them. Not yet.
Time would prove all things. And he had waited for many years to return, he had many more to perpetrate his schemes and machinations. He ran over the broader strokes in his mind: Reacquire Radiant Garden, drown it in Darkness and return it to it’s chaotic beauty as Hollow Bastion. From there, he could stage his operations away from the Nobodies, and that ridiculous imposter Xemnas. A successful strike would involve retaking the castle and Heartless Manufactory without crippling the cities systems. With those intact, he could reprogram the defense systems to target the Nobodies, giving his Heartless a proper foothold as he spread his shadow over the planet. From there, Agrabah, the French Countryside, Wonderland, the Enchanted Dominion, any place he could find a Princess of Heart, cauterize any way the Light could call for aide from across the Worlds. The other Worlds were inconsequential at this point. They would fall in their own time, but would be no threat if left alone.
And then, with Radiant Garden under Ansem’s iron grasp, the Princesses held captive and their Worlds submerged within the black, Castle Disney. A grand siege, he envisioned in his mind’s eye, where Heartless descended upon the King’s Hall, where the Dark XII would personally fell any of the royal court, where Ansem would strike the King down and ascend his throne while his minions encased the Cornerstone and locked it away for eternity.
Finally, from his staging grounds on every World, his armies would descend upon Destiny Islands. That accursed place where the Light was most ample and potent. Where the Keyblade Wielder hailed from. Ansem’s legions would lay waste to every beach, every town on the waterside, they would sink every ship and consume every Heart until all that was left was a broken Sora. All the Seeker of Darkness would need at that point would be Riku or Kairi, the final Princess, and he would have either a new servant, or the perfect captive. Sora couldn’t last against the Dark XII. Not against that coordinated an assault.
No World could. And so, the Dark lord sat on his throne, pining to have his forces whole. Heartless had scoured every available world for them, noting the more powerful and easily-broken Hearts they could find. His Dark XII would be whole again soon. And when they were, after Step-One there would be nothing able to stop their march.
A Neo-Shadow materialized at his feet, speaking to Ansem through echoes and ripples in the dark, its antennae twitching as it informed him of a strong Heart on Radiant Garden. One easily manipulated and turned back to the blackness.
”Ienzo,” he spoke through the shadows,
”Summon Lumaria… I’ve found a Heart I need reaped.”Questions/Comments/Suggestions? Billy Zane > Richard Epcar.
