In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Now that Re:Coded is out, or should I say, as been out for a while, what is everyone's thoughts on it?
I have it, and personally, I don't think it deserved the marks it did from official gaming groups. I got the storyline and managed to round up the worlds with somewhat difficulty, but honestly, I think it's a pretty good asset to the KH universe ( even if it isn't canon. )
( Man, this sub-board needs a bit of cleaning up.. this is the one of the first threads that actually have to do with the game itself, besides anticipation for it. )
Well, it game me 16 hours of fun, but too easy gameplay. I died only once in the whole storyline playing. Never happened to me in any other game before!
But into the game itself: The camera system sucked badly. It didn't even have the option to chance it like in Days. Graphics are great for DS, but the new way how the cutscenes were shown was pretty bad, again Days was better. The matrix system was fun at first but in the end, for a "perfect" charcter you have to do the hardest system sector like 5 000 000 times! No thanks!
Trophies was pretty nice thing, but it wasn't fun that there was 30 of them, most of them were able to get in 5-10 mins, and the others by just playing normaly and in sometime, they have been gotten.
So the game sucked really bad, and when we add that all it the game did to the storyline, was to explain what readed in the message from KH2's ending, it was a total failure. Square was propably just trying to make money with it's name.
I'd give it 5,5/10 mostly becouse the command system, even thougth it was must badder than in BBS.
-shrug- It was a remake of a mobile game for money, there was only so much they could do - at least they made it playable. It and its original are definitely the least finest additions to the series. At least to me.
Maybe I should actually play the new one first, if the story is as Sinn says. I adored Days.

The story was gimmicky and it spent too much time going through the traditional repertoire of worlds just for one simple fact. It's sufficient to say that Yen Sid and Mickey didn't need a measly journal to learn that Terra, Aqua and Ventus need their help. That much is obvious.
I could keep on raving about the story, but that's not important.
Re: Coded's most shining feature is without a doubt the actual gameplay... which beats 358/2 Days outright. In my honest opinion, it's a gateway "Critical Mode" game. If you want a really good CMLVL1 challenge without getting too frustrated, I'd recommend this first over KH2FM or BBSFM.

People don't like the un-numbered Kingdom Hearts because they're looking for a new addition to the story, not a recreation of the first few games with the normal KH gimmicks.
I personally love ALL of the games. 358/2 Days? People said it was a worthless filler, but it was the most meaningful filler there was. It explained Roxas and the pain he had gone through by the Organization's hand. It was character development, and I was touched by his history with Xion. It also creates a metaphorical love triangle between him, Xion, and Namine that will be interesting when they are "freed from their torment".
Re:Coded was the filler that explained a lot. It included information that was lost in the original game, and also brought a few interesting aspects to the story, like the fact that ANYBODY can obtain a Keyblade as long as their Heart is strong. Data Sora wasn't even a real person and he got one. It also explains that no matter what, a person is a person, whether they be a clone, data, or anything similar of nature.
Data Sora's adventures built experiences that he, and only he, lived through. Like Replica Riku or Xion, he gained his own Heart from his experiences and memories, and those memories lived on even though they were gone from his mind. This will have a major impact on the future stories, including the ties between Sora and Ventus, which I am guessing will slowly grow more noticeable as they get closer to his sleeping place. It will also show true with Terranort's return, and may even go so far as to remember the girl who faded from existence.
So all in all, all of these games were amazing, despite what the filthy slobbering critics want for the game. They may call Square sellouts, but this story has expanded sevenfold its original content, and needs time and good developers to explain it fully in my opinion. A good story is always worth telling.
But too many people are fools. Try to educate a fool and you end up with an educated fool.

...I disliked re:Coded to be quite honest. But, I cannot disagree with .:Sinn:., because it covered all of those points. Still, I just found the game too... boring. Mickey came in and told me what to do a lot of the time.
After the game, you're focused on gaining trophies that are exasperating to obtain. Yes, I do enjoy replaying the Boss Battles, and even the Castle Oblivion sequences. I enjoyed the last part of the game... buuut I hated the beginning and the middle. That was all virtually replay material, whereas I felt the Castle Oblivion sequences had an interesting twist.
BUT what I hated the absolute MOST about this game was when they went into the Datascape or whatever. UGH. That was just absolutely ridiculous in everyway. I felt as if it pulled too much away from the KH games themselves.
Since I'm a Namine lover, I did enjoy the storyline and the fact that Data Sora and Data Namine got to talk.~
Ultimately, though, I really just did not like the game. I'm not much of a graphics person, so I don't judge based on graphics alone. I disliked a lot of the elements of the story. Oh, and did I mention that I'm tired of seeing Sora in his KH1 costume?
Storyline-- 7/10 Graphics-- meh. Controls and Other Related Elements-- 4/10 Overall Score-- 5/10. Tops.

I played it. Didn't like it too much, but I did think it was pretty cool.
Instead of judging it based on the normal Kingdom Hearts standard, I went in knowing it was meant for a cell phone game. I didn't expect it to be a groundbreaking epic.
I have to admit, it was slightly disappointing, but as a game I thought it was good. The game play was entertaining to say the least, and it consumed time without being torturous.
While I never actually finished the game (I wanted the next game on my list but had to return it first, and didn't see myself playing it again any time soon) I can say I enjoyed the way the story was headed.
I got pretty deep into the game, and thought it was an interesting twist to fill in some other gaps in the story.
As for an addition to the series, I don't think it really put much into it. And I can't say it was too entertaining, because it didn't hold my interest for very long. But I don't think it deserves the bad criticism it gets.
Having actually played the cell phone version, I gotta say, by comparison, the DS version was a good game. And I loved the story, though it did feel like a remake of Chain of Memories...

Is it just me or has Sora not done too well on hand held consoles. I mean in days you had to unlock him by doing various tasks. But i was highly disappointed when i came round to playing as him. Sure they did a better job of gameplay in re:coded but i found it very tedious.
KH requires button mashing to win, but in a fun way. KH2 required a tiny bit more skill with reaction commands. CoM had the card system which was irritating but not bad. Days had the block system, even for leveing up. Re:coded also had the block system but when it was in place, it was permanently in there until you swapped it for another block. I found it as irritating as the CoM card system but unlike CoM, it was very boring.
The only thing i can say i like about Re:coded is the return of the Black Fungus. it appears a few times in the first two games but then completely disappears. I liked fighting those little buggers and i highly enjoyed their return.
I would personally give it a 4 out of 10. A tedious waste of money. If you must have it, wait until its in the bargain section and costs about a dollor/pound.

*pulls out two cents and throws it into the pile* I have played every single Kingdom Hearts game that has been made (Minus KH:Final Mix, KH2:Final Mix, and the original Coded.) I have beaten ALMOST all of them (The exception is Chain of Memories. There is always ONE boss that I just can't seem to beat...) And I have to agree with Sinn on this one. They all have added quite a bit toward the storyline of Kingdom Hearts. Honestly.... Having played them all and knowing their contributions to the storyline, I suppose that they COULD have only released Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Heart II.
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days -- Aside from having a name that no one seems to be able to pronounce, I absolutely loved this game as the first filler game they made. It was done in a way that allowed us to see just what happened to Roxas while Sora was not able to partake in anything. Even their way of doing a tutorial as Missions with those that died in Castle Oblivion was interesting. Then you got to see his, Axel's, and Xion's character development. It actually is sad for me to say that my FAVORITE part about the game was the Multiplayer mission mode. I have yet to play that with other people. But when I was getting into a fight on here as Luxord, I went this game, loaded up the mission mode, selected Luxord, and started to mess around as him. It showed how he fought with the cards and how he moved about normally. Plus it gives us a chance to do that with ANY Organization member as well as some extra characters. I mean, it could have NOT been released. We wouldn't have the development of Roxas or seen the interaction of the Organization members with him. All we would have, if we were lucky, was the the small fight scene between Roxas, Riku, and the Neoshadows.
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories -- While not really anything different about this then the original Chain of Memories, I was incredibly happy that they released this. It had the same storyline as the original, BUT It showed it to us in a completely new way. The characters that we used to have very small sprites for were now full on 3D Models that we got to see move about in very cool ways (At least for me). It made looking around the areas that much better. And some of the fights against bosses that I had in the original that took forever was now much easier. Then again, others were now much harder (IE: Jafar in Genie form was horrible in this version for me). While not necessary for the storyline, it did provide us with a new outlook on how this story went.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep -- Of all the Kingdom Hearts "filler" games, this was definitely my favorite. Not only did you get the chance to play as different characters, each one had their own distinct storyline that was fun trying to find out "Who went where first, second, and third". I was also glad that there were many times where the others were mentioned in the one you were playing's storyline. Each one had a distinct storyline yet each one had the same storyline as the last. The Command Board and Mirage Arena was a nice little addition to the story and gave something to do when you were bored. Not to mention the prizes you got from them were nice too. And then finding out after beating all of their storylines that you weren't quite done by having to do the Final Episode was just an amazing addition. Had this not been released, we wouldn't know how the three ended up with the Keyblade. We wouldn't have known that Riku was chosen as Terra's successor. We wouldn't have known that Aqua had made Kairi a keyblader inadvertantly as well as been the cause of her heart going to Sora's when Destiny Islands was destroyed. And we wouldn't have known that Ventus' heart merged with Sora's to let him wield the keyblade.
Which brings us to Kingdom Hearts Re:coded -- This game, while my least favorite out of the Filler games, still held a lot of key plots to the story. I can't even say too much toward the storyline that Sinn hadn't already stated. I was happy that it showed us that Maleficent and Pete did make it out in Kingdom Hearts II. And it definitely gave some more speculation toward what could happen in the next games (Dream Drop Distance and KH: III). Though I have to say that my least favorite part of the game was the final boss . That fight was entirely disappointing. It was so easy and then the game was done. I did like the ending where Yen Sid calls for Sora and Riku to take the Mark of Mastery exam. It definitely puts into perspective that what we might see later on.
So yeah, like I said... I agree with Sinn in that ALL of the Filler games were needed to make the story what it is now. And when Dream Drop Distance and KH III are released, try to play the games knowing only what you would know from playing KH1, KH:CoM, and KH2 and then you'll probably realize just how important they are. (Consider this paragraph your TL:DR)
Weighing in, as a fan and proponent of every KH sidegame, I can't much stand by Re:Coded. It was interesting gameplay-wise (being that you could play as a sidescroller, turn-based, etc.), but a total waste of time and resources on the part of SquareEnix and the fans. It added absolutely nothing of value in any form with the exception of the Mickey/Yen Sid scene (which they could/should have added to BbS Final Mix), and anything that was added storyline-wise was either alluded to previously, or didn't need an entire game to explain. I'd rather they'd have just made those things journal entries in Dream Drop Distance of KH3 and be done with it.
I bought the game because I'm a mark for the series, but I have absolutely no plans to revisit it. I couldn't even be bothered to finish it the last third of it, I just read the write-ups. The only other time I've done that was with Chain of Memories, on account of that god-awful card system.
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, was, for me, well....kind of...easy. I dunno. it gave me like, 10-15 hours of gameplay before I had done everything. To me, it just got plain, old boring, and I look forward to NOT playing it again. I just....didn't like it, I'm sorry.
OOF, and that Camera system. Blargh! It was bad. I hated the camera angles, especially in boss battles.
So for me, KH RE:CODED, was my least favorite game. So far, this DS game has not shown it's worthiness for me to re-play.
