In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

You can vote for three (three points being brought up, let me know if I'm missing something).
This is a point brought up by the staff, and everyone ought to have a say.
Though Nobodies and Somebodies have been made canon with the addition of BBS to resemble each other, the Heartless equivalents are up to us. In this case I'm mainly referring to the humanoid variety, which are more developed. My question also primarily refers to the Dark XII, the Organization, and their Somebodies. (If you look at Sora, he has so little darkness in his Heart it isn't capable of becoming a humanoid Heartless, and his Shadow didn't resemble him at all.)
In my opinion, all the trio should be similar in looks, a bit similar in personality, and the Heartless and Nobody should share the element that reflects the Somebody's personality. They all come from the same person, it simply doesn't make sense to me for the Heartless to be completely random, and only share the name.
But that's just how my thought process goes now. Please discuss with your reasoning!

:/ I wonder...how some of these...truly even matter.
Who cares if their heartless and nobodies XD look...alike. As from my eye...Roxas and Sora...don't look alike. Personalities...eeeh shouldn't stray too far from their original selves...but come on naturally Heartless aren't naturally the nicest things in the universe...and thus far from what we know...nobodies lack emotions so they are prone to be apathetic...common sense so it would seem.
XD Juuust saying. Some of these...truly...aren't a major deal to be necessary in the polls, especially if you aren't picking up these characters.
I agree with Ellie. It's more of us being nitpicky than actually addressing important points... which is welcome as well, I suppose.
I'd say all three should o.o resemble each other to a certain degree, but with enough freedom so they're not XD twinsies. Want to change hair and eye color? Go ahead o.o but I'd say core facial features should be pretty similar between the three.
They definitely should share the same element; they are all practically "born" from the same individual so their core element should be the equal.
There is much more freedom with personalities due to the points Ellie mentioned before. Each species has characteristics that make their behavior distinctive from others... and Heartless should all be evil badasses in theory so XD.
As from my eye...Roxas and Sora...don't look alike.
Herm... that's cause Roxas is some iteration of Ventus.
Personally I feel a Nobody should to some degree look similar to their Somebody counterpart. They are, after all, the hollow shells left behind. Lacking hearts, personalities would be a bit of a deviation from who they once were. Shadows, but not the exact thing.
Heartless, I feel, are more of an abstraction. They are the Darkness in people's hearts manifest. The Darkness in Sora's heart was not strong, thus it manifested into a small, timid Shadow. Personally I feel one's heartless would to some degree represent their internal Darkness. One's pride, one's greed, one's hatred, etc.

>> I know Roxas = Ventus, but before Ventus even came to the picture or existed in our knowledge...I was like Sora...looks nothing like Roxas, which I bet it was a design purpose to not show an obvious relation between the two for peeps to figure out.
And sure yeah Heartless just represent that's person...bad quality to whatever ump-teenth power, but I doubt its something that needs to be written in stone unless people are truly distorting the "semi-canon characters" that they could easily be someone else.
Agreed with both Shunny about some core resemblances, but also Cade about Heartless being an abstraction. With the latter point brought up, I do think looks can be attributed to the creator. That isn't nearly as important or relevant as the powers, like Ellie said, and I still feel the element/skillset of the beings actually has to be shared (or similar).
Ellie, you think there doesn't need to be any guidelines for looks, at least where the Heartless is concerned? The Nobody and Somebody do, however, look alike - Roxas and Sora have been told they look like each other, and the Somebodies in BBS do resemble their Nobodies from KHII. And they're the shells of the body, like Cade pointed out.

...No...I don't...since I don't care to dictate how the character looks or care to say "this is how you should manage your character in regards of appearance". Sure...we all know it'd be off if Axel's Heartless looks like Black Dynamite and Demyx' heartless being a chick.
Plus I see all of those "look-a-like" from the perspective...of a storyteller...not because of canon details. Of-course Sora and Roxas won't look identical, because they didn't want to give their relations away. Of-course they'd want Braig to look like Xigbar...because they want to make it obvious and not waste time playing the guessing game because there are far more important material to show, reveal, and express.
Sooo with that said...I don't really care, because appearance isn't a make or break deal for me...when I look at a character profile. Personality, History, Abilities (just to make sure its even), RP Sample (to see if you can execute rping) ...is primarily the highest priority.
I agree with cadence about the whole heartless being abstract and all. If all heartless should resemble their nobody/somebody, then how did all the different types of heartless come about?
I can see shun's point about the powers. It makes logical sense.
- Sharing of same element/similar skillset. - Aesthetics matter little with Heartless, abstract beings reflecting the Darkness in one's Heart, rather than the shell of the Somebody's body that the Nobody is. - Personality - loose, but an exemplified degree of the person's darker traits in Heartless. In Nobodies, doesn't particularly matter.

I just wanted to weigh in a little, but it seems it's already been said. These are pretty much all my thoughts combined perfectly by Zephiris.

If I may say something, correct me if I'm wrong, but all Nobodies (with a special exception to Roxas) actually remembered their previous lives. Namine was not just like Kairi, but she knew where she was created from. They knew who they were before hand. They act like they have hearts based on how they remember them. It makes sense to me for them to act the way they remember, when starting out, but then grow into their own personalities as time passes, without the heart to affect their actions. Basically, they mature into their own person, but how that person would have grown up without a conscience.
