In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Nickname: Spiky (A teasing name given to him by a mentioned friend below, directed to be a verbal jab to his hair.)
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Position: If you mean job, he doesn't remember if he had one. But considering he woke up, bloody with three weapons on his person and a rather painful headache, he'd say he was either a soldier or a mercenary.
Alignment - Chaotic Good
Powers/Abilities/Techniques/Skills:
He sucks with magic.
No, actually that was an understatement.
Mana Prodigy- Only a term for his high mana reserves, as he has no idea how to control his levels. Mana is a special energy produced within the bodies of living beings. Most who know about it, call it MP or magic points. Mana is, relatively, an energy created by the heart, with ability to take the affinity of light or darkness, depending on the being's morality. It wasn't much of a secret in Kuroten, as most foot soldiers would be able to cast basic spells with some difficulty and the public could gain knowledge about it. But scrolls and techniques explaining how to use mana was scarce, as most were locked away at vaults for treasures of the Kingdom. So the general public didn't know what mana was, some were even to create techniques that required mana and hadn't known what exactly they were using.
Mana is a flexible tool, able to allow a normal person to shoot fireballs or slow an opponent down by increasing their gravitational pull. It could also be used to augment weapons, making them sharper, faster and more efficient. But most people don't know about mana, let alone have been trained in it. Kuroda is an exception, for some reason, his mana reserves were quite high for his age and it was one of the reasons he had been taken in by the kingdom.
But it was also a hard energy to harness. Kurod's inability to use spells now stems from the fact he has absolutely no experience with them. At least, none he remembers. And trying to relearn mana control by himself is just plain impossible without losing one of his limbs in the process anyway. Even then, he was sure he would never be a master in anything involving large quantities of mana. He doubted it. Plus, he was more of a 'I'm gonna bash your face in, up close and personal' guy.
A heart can get stronger by many means, and with it, the mana a person can wield. From creating friendships, to making enemies. Experiences such as those increase mana.
Jack of all Arms- He has been mentored to be able to use any sort of weapon with beginner's knowledge. For example, he can use a rifle to shoot but he has no idea how to maintain it or craft any bullets to use.
Of all the magic he tried to do, Cure is the only thing he does right. Not Cura or Curaga. Cure. For some reason, spells blow up in his face. Most likely because he has no idea how to use his mana, as he has forgotten exactly how to control it. Cure, a restorative spell, does absolutely no damage to the user's being. But he only uses the smallest reserve he can, as like the time he tried to use Cura and Curaga, he placed as little as he could and nothing happened, but when he put more, the spell backfired from an overload and he found himself unable to move or stay conscious for a while. Cooldown: 5 posts
His style of fighting revolves around trickery and cunning, with a lot of improvising. But he only does this not because a close up fight was something he couldn't handle. As he found out, he was very well trained in his twin knives, as well as the large buster type sword he carried. He fought dirty simply because it was his mindset. And he was damn good in it. Like he always said, 'If you're not cheating, you're not trying.'
Wrath- A technique in which he dashes with an inhuman speed. He tested it's exact velocity when he compared it to a bullet...and won. But as he found out, he gained tunnel vision in the process and could only move in a straight line, at a more than breakneck pace. Also, crashing through three cement walls was not a very pleasant experience. And even more, he's not very proficient in adjusting the distance of travel. One second he's there, the next he could be giving his opponent a painful headbutt that would knock both of them outta commission. So battle-wise, it has potential. But right now, it brings more harm than good.
Cooldown: 3 posts
Impulse- A technique done with a broadsword. Kuroda charges mana into his sword and swings it down, unleashing a shockwave to his opponent in the form of a crescent wave of energy. No real drawbacks, but the damage to anything that can take an actual hit isn't really anything to stare at. But the wave can explode to defeat large amounts of lower enemies in groups. Anything other than that, it's basically a waste of energy.
Cooldown: 3 posts
Fang Bullet- Similar to a strike raid, only Kuroda throws two of his knives. Mana will be charged to the weapons to increase its cutting ability, durability and overall performance. Depending on how much he charges, it can sink the knives up to their hilt in flesh and bone or cut through steel like a hot knife through butter. Wires are also attached to the hilts, making it easier to retrieve them. But their are drawbacks. Since the attacks are at best, mid range. And the opponent can easily see how and where the knife will end up, which makes this more of a stealth and assassination skill. Plus, the knives he had would lose velocity and power from the second they left his hands. Not really good for an upfront fight.
Cooldown: 4 posts
Dimension Rift- Powerful attack. He can compress mana into his palm with a good amount of focus. Releasing it into a beam like bullet that could, in his tests, melt straight through a castle wall, and blast out the other side. He employs the fact that this technique has a flexible amount of mana able to be compressed and distributed to make the blast as small or as large as the user requires. But even then, his control is shot to hell and so, needs all the focus he can muster.
Cooldown: 10 posts along with a required 2 posts needed as prep time to perform.
He relies mostly on those techniques, if he needs to. Otherwise, his blades are the only thing he uses. His ability in wielding a sword was unquestionably skilled, for his age. But he was far from perfect. Same with his twin knives.
Limit Breaks
His limit break is unique. Instead of one unique move, his limit break instead sends him to a mode that augments his skills along with summoning a physical representation of his level of strength in the form of an avatar of sorts that can manifest and aid in combat. But this power needs time to master. So far, he has only gained one with absolutely no experience with it. Also, there are 4, all in all.
As to how, as he had dubbed this skill, 'Origin Mode' (since Avatar Mode is way too corny.) helps in battle, the being summoned will differ in what mode he chooses, there being 4. Hades, Surt, Messiah and the last and most powerful form being Chaos.
Right now, Hades, a darker side is the only one he can access.
Origin Mode: Hades- A skeleton dressed in a black robe, wielding a scythe with lethal mastery. Kuroda's hands will increase in strength, increasing his general attributes greatly, as well as allowing him to coat his weapons in energy, usual shown by a dark glow around the blade. But with this mode, it becomes harder to channel mana, thus disabling any use of his spells.
Cooldown: 15 postsDuration: 5 posts
LOCKED-Origin Mode: Surt- A red giant with a flaming sword, told to bring the end by flooding the world with fire. His spells skyrocket with this mode. All of his spells take half the time to cooldown and increase the overall destructive powers of all energy oriented techniques. But physical attributes become ragged in comparison as his body turns more mana attributed. Unlocked one hundred IC posts in.
Cooldown: 15 postsDuration: 5 posts
LOCKED-Origin Mode: Messiah- A holy being said to be able to wash away the sins of the world. In this mode, Kuroda's speed skyrockets. All weapons and techniques he uses cannot be used, as he cannot use them properly without destroying the grounds he had made them on. But to increase the lethality, he will find a way to augment his arms with mana to produce white flames. But he can only control it so much, it usually burns his arms as well. Refrain from extended use, you may add one post to the skill's duration but if he does not defeat his opponent within that one post, then his arms will take too much damage to even twitch in pain, let alone be usable in a fight. Unlocked 200 IC posts in.
Cooldown: 15 postsDuration: 4 posts
LOCKED-Origin Mode: Chaos- An ultimate embodiment of his powers. A being with its head wrapped in countless bandages, leaving only it's golden eyes open to gaze with cold apathy at its victim. It wields a blade, one edge dark as night, the other a pure silver. All his powers spike in this mode, mana becomes easier to use, his speed, strength, coordination all skyrocket. And it unlocks a new skill, only usable once unless he's desperate enough to die doing it a second time. Will be temporarily unlocked when Kuroda is enraged to the point of mental instabilitly or if his life is in danger. Fully unlocked 300 IC posts in.
Cooldown: 20 postsDuration: 3 posts
World's End- A final skill usable only in 'Origin Mode: Chaos'. Kuroda's form is warped in a gold aura, a sign of this skill. His body will block all limiters, enhancing and breaking past superhuman. In this mode, his body will be strained as mana will flood his system. His body will literally tear itself apart. Extended use will end in one hell of a bang. Use only at the most dire situations, if at all.
Cooldown: No cooldown. If Kuroda uses it once, that's it for the whole fight.Duration: 4 posts
Note: If one Origin Mode is in cooldown, Kuroda can't use the other modes either.
Weapons/Items:
Kusanagi-no-tsurugi (Great Sword)- A large sword nearly as big as Kuroda is. At first, he questioned exactly why he kept an over-sized butcher sword that he could probably never lift. But he quickly got rid of that thought when the sword seemed to wrap around his hand and dig itself in.
Needless to say, he screamed and ran around like a chicken with its head cut off.
But he found that the zanbato had now weighed exactly like a normal sword would, in his opinion. So he had taken to keeping it. Never know when you might need to threaten an insane hero, bent on taking over the world for his mommy.
But the compensation jokes were really wearing down on his nerves...
Its blade was an unusual shade of black. He was at first afraid that the blade was rusted and useless, but that went out of his thoughts when he was attacked and defended with the Kusanagi. A bandit's own sword was sliced in half, and that guy was the one who was swinging! Plus he discovered it could channel a good amount of his mana, which was a relief. He didn't need a sword that would blow up in his face if he put too much energy in it.
He also has two twin knives strapped to his back. Both were near identical, the only difference was the slight difference in framework and shade of color. Aurum was a light shade of gold while the twin, Argentum was silver. Both were at least ten inches long, but he found he could easily hide it in his clothes, unlike his sword.
Appearance:
Usually, he wears a large cloak covering his body, along with a hood. Kusanagi is kept in a large cloth where he could set in holster, as walking around with a sword that big is a shout of challenge to all the males in the vicinity. His knives are kept behind him, crossing where his tailbone is to provide an easy quick draw. Kusanagi is usually strapped to his back, as mentioned before, but the knives are long enough that he can draw it without any trouble. Under the cloak, his blonde hair was unusually spiky. A few tufts would droop and frame his face though. His eyes were a crimson shade, a color he was thankful for, since it made hiding much easier.
As for his apparel, under his cloak he sported a black sleeveless turtleneck, with a grey jacket filled with various sharp objects and hidden pockets. Hey, he liked being prepared. Plus, wire and throwing knives made strangling people so much easier.
His leg wear was comprised of loose black pants, tied to end at his lower calf, as to create as little noise as possible. Black boots completed his look.
Personality:
What are your character’s motivations/objectives/desires? As of now, he has no dreams. His motivation is simply to keep living and he wished to find his lost memories.
Fears/weaknesses/concerns? He fears darkness, as everyone does. But he does not hate it. Rather, he is intrigued by the possibilities if one could wield both light and darkness. Would that person become stronger? Or would the persona simply lose both aspects of his powers? So many questions, so little answers. He is also concerned with his amnesia, why he does not remember anything past waking up in a half working gummi ship floating in the realm in between. You could even dangle a piece of his memories after him and he'd follow you to either beat it out or ask questions. If the latter doesn't work, prepare for the former.
As for weaknesses, his inability to control mana leaves him lacking a way to dispel illusions, which is why he despises fighting illusionists. Illusions usually work by ensnaring the victim's senses, and some actually bend light in a way to create false projections. Of course, there are ways to break out of it. Such as hitting the caster or by disrupting the area of effect with a burst of energy that would mingle and unbalance the illusion. But Kuroda cannot do the latter, as he has a limited control over his own reserves, the chances of him pushing all his mana out and leaving him vulnerable and weak is quite large. So he has no choice but to do the former, which usually ends with him swinging his sword, hoping to hit something. But this hardly ever works, and so Kuroda usually retreats under normal circumstances and comes back later to either approach in a more planned approach if he didn't jump straight off the world.
He prefers to always think on the side of logic. But a hero complex had sprung up from somewhere and he can not stand to see an evil go unpunished. He's done enough assassination attempts of his own volition to prove it. He also has a small problem of thinking too much, usually losing himself in thought and would then crash unto some unsuspecting realm, where trouble would find him, he'd get engaged in a life or death situation once or twice, obliterate and/or save a country and along the way would cause an ungodly amount of property damage he would down right refuse to pay before taking off like the hounds of hell were on his heels. In short, he was and still is a magnet for all things harmful to his health.
As a sword for hire, he's had enough experience with working alongside others. But he prefers to be by himself. Hiding in the shadows is easier if you don't have four guys stumbling over each other beside you. But he had to admit, human meat shields were very effective, especially if he hated the one he was hiding behind. What? He never said he had a 'good karma' streak...
Original World:
Kuroten- A world quite ripe with war, making it delectable for the impending Heartless. Kuroten was a militarized land, with hundreds of small countries everywhere and quite a few major countries. But only one had the title of the strongest. Kuroda's home city, Kumono Ie, was the capital of his nation, with an equally large population. His country, Hikari , became the strongest in the land thanks to the recent years of leadership and a good amount of luck.
Current World: twilight town
History:
Kuroda was an orphaned child of Kumono. But he had shown special affinity to mana in a young age. When he was 4, an incident (He seriously didn't mean to obliterate the whole top floor of that building...) had ended with agents of the kingdom taking notice of him and sending him away to be trained, the orphanages too fearing of him to protest. He would train for years under their tutelage. Soldiers, technicians, doctors, you name it. Over the course of 10 years, he had every single one as a teacher. 10 years of drills, beatings and lectures on sword kata, efficiency, human anatomy or anything useful. But overall, his primary mentor was the general of the organization he would be ending.
Roy Siegfried was a tough guy, with a capital 'tough'.
A soldier in his white age, Roy had seen more than his fair share of blood, and Kuroda had been under him. Roy drove him into the ground and buried him six feet under, every day and when the next came peeking through, dug him up and did so again. He was trained in all the weapons he could get his hands on. Guns, crossbows, swords, he had been trained to at least have beginner's knowledge. But Roy, a close-range specialist, had insisted to teach him everything he knew. Kuroda was forced to learn or be left behind in the gutter, forgotten and without a purpose, and soon enough, the principles of swordsmanship had been engraved into his being.
Between KH:BBS and KHI- 12 to 22
And then he turned fourteen, and his superiors decided to throw him into the lion's den. His training was complete, now and he was a tool, glinting in the sun and fresh from the forge. And SHADOW, the dark side of Kumono, never left a weapon unused.
3 years...that's how long he had been given missions to take another's life. In 3 years, he had realized why he had swung his sword at human shaped targets, why every bulls-eye was a vital spot in the human anatomy. In these 3 years, he realized why they were shaped like humans, why every word he had read from the books given to him showed the most crippling, debilitating points in the body. When he turned fifteen, his hands were caked in blood. When he was sixteen, he could barely see his palms. And when he turned seventeen, his hands just disappeared under crimson. But even as a weapon, he was human, and so had made bonds.
Kuroda was a strange child, not quite cold but not quite energetic, either. One could call him...apathetic but he would then correct them and instead say 'bored', added with a few threats of dismemberment. All in all, not many people thought to look more beyond his cover and had immediately dismissed him as another whiny emo brat. He was fine with that, as long as he didn't become a whiny emo brat. But the few that did see him for who he was, he had grown to cherish. One of them was Anna Locke, a fellow orphan who had grown alongside him, even in the shadows of society. Anna was a girl his age, and Kuroda had enjoyed her company. Many questioned why, as Anna was sarcastic, mischievous, violent and an all around tomboy, while Kuroda was the quiet, creepy stalker guy looking at you with a glint in his eye that told you not to mess with him from the corner.
Opposites attract, apparently.
But good times were not always meant to last. Kuroda was submerged in the underground world. Underhanded dealings with less than acceptable people with no morals. Assassinations of government officials deemed too dangerous for the kingdom. Even massacres of the groups of cults that had, for some reason worshiped heartless as gods, though he didn't know what exactly a heartless was until much later. Kuroda had done everything a child his age should not have done, decisions no human should ever have been placed in. Every face he had slaughtered was engraved in his memories and even he, himself had to question his mental stability. Everything he had done, every crime, every piece of sorrow, fear and anger had formed inside him as darkness. But Anna had remained with him, a smile always on her face. He had grown closer to her, more so than any other. Whether he had realized it was another matter all together. Whether Anna had realized she became the reason he lived, was unknown to him.
But then, the heartless came. No amount of training prepared him for when the castle was overrun by darkness.
At first, there were only rumors. Sightings of shadows moving, disappearances of a few people. Everyone had ignored it, labeling it nothing more than another urban legend spread to make kids come home earlier. But then, the shadows appeared and started attacking the masses. Kuroda had been one of the first to be deployed to the first sighting of hostiles, alongside his mentor and Anna. But the site...
After that, the whole world turned against each other. Alliances were broken as men hoped isolation would save them, only to be never heard from again. Everything turned grim, countries blaming one another for the enemy that wandered into their doorstep. Communication was destroyed, and the nations were drawn into a cold war, with an impending threat right over their heads.
Another four years passed. Kumono had stood strong, thanks to the military might of the whole country, the heartless had stayed away, for reasons that had baffled them at first. But they should have known it wasn't because they were being spared. No, the darkness was only biding its time and preparing.
A regular morning. Kuroda had thought it would be a normal day. But that thought had been obliterated when sirens blared over the speakers, three wails signalling an invasion of sorts. Kuroda ran to the castle, meeting up with Anna and being debriefed by Roy, along with some other members older than them. Swarms of heartless were spotted, ready to invade. And they had been deployed to slow them down so the kingdom could prepare.
When they had arrived, the gates were barely holding back the legions of shadows, guards moving around frantically as they tried to slow down the legion knocking on the doors with more than a few sharp weapons alongside them. Kuroda, Roy, Anna and the platoons of surviving knights had made a last stand to buy time for the town to prepare as best they could, but they didn't last half an hour after the endless horde broke past the gates..
He fought alongside the guards and soldiers of the nation, hiding in the corner with a blade ready, just in case the situation called for the darker hand of the kingdom. He was a soldier trained and experienced with blood at such a young age, but the sheer numbers and onslaught of the heartless defeated them. Anna was beside him, fighting with her katana with grace and form. No move was wasted, as expected of two weapons trained by the very best since they could walk.
But then, what could only be considered the leviathan of monsters came. It was gigantic, bigger than houses that was squashed under it's fists. nothing could stand between it and hope to live. In the end, he, Roy and Anna had been the ones to confront it, and together, they vanquished it. But weakened from their fight, the heartless horded around them, ready to take apart the biggest threat they could see.
And they pushed on, not willing to lay down and die. At first, it was seemingly hopeless. All of the heartless were coming down on their heads, and they could only kill so much. And then, he made a mistake.
He paused to take a breath.
One chance he had given them, and they took it. One thin, tall humanoid heartless jumped, claw outstretched and ready to rip his throat out.
Anna had acted before he could. Whatever the heartless had done didn't leave a mark. At first, he had thought Anna had somehow avoided getting injured. But her eyes shone with pain. She staggered back from the heartless, the being clutching a heart that soon disappeared in darkness. His eyes widened, Anna turned to him.
I...
A smile jostled her features.
love...
He ran as light started to seep from her being.
you
She fell, Kuroda moving to catch her only for her to burst into particles of light, bathing him in a glow. He stood dumbfounded, mouth hanging open as he tried to process what exactly had happened. Before it was replaced by rage. Rage at himself, rage at the unfairness of the world.
And rage at the shadows encircling them.
Roy was screaming at him, telling him to get a grip. But Kuroda wasn't responding. His eyes, filled with both tears and fury, landed on the nearest heartless. Kusanagi seemed to glow with a golden hue, and that was all he remembered before his world exploded into white.
Roy watched as his student's form was suddenly overshadowed by a golden being. Its sword flashed and started decimating the shadows. But whatever control Kuroda had over his actions was forgotten and Roy had to jump back when the being's fist slammed and splintered the earth where he once stood.
Kuroda wasn't moving at all, but the monster he summoned was attacking anything that came within its range. An unlucky Kumono soldier was cut in half by the sword, splattering his allies with gore. Roy cursed. Kuroda's frame was smoking, now. As if his skin was on fire. Whatever this was, it was harming both Kuroda and the heartless. He had to stop this, he failed to save Anna but he wouldn't fail Kuroda.
And so, his hand moved to his own sword, as he turned and engaged his student.
It was draining. Roy was fast, a veteran of the SHADOW corps with years of experience and battle hardened skills. But the monster was berserk, not even paying attention when he had seemed to injure it only for the side to mesh together. Roy had no doubt that the only thing keeping him alive was his many years of service and his agility. Eventually, he had managed to outlast the being. It was getting weaker, the glow around it was fading. Kuroda was running out of steam to power this engine. Both good and bad, since if he exhausted himself, he would probably die, either from blowing his mana reserves out so suddenly and injuring his body in the process, or by the heartless that had stayed back between their fight.
So, in a move of desperation, he charged head on, breaking past the shadow even when he felt Kuroda's energy burning into his skin. His hand blurred, swinging his sword's hilt to Kuroda's head, the hilt impacting on his student's forehead and knocking him out.
Roy succeeded, but it was short lived. Seeing the threat gone, the heartless had advanced again. Roy was too hurt and too exhausted to defend and in the end, his heart lay in a shadow's hand. His gaze traveled to Kuroda, the heartless advancing on his unconscious frame. He moved his hand, as if to stop them but it wasn't necessary. A vortex appeared above them, sucking in all it could, and the last thing Roy saw before bursting into light was Kuroda's limp body floated off the ground.
Kuroda had woken up with nothing more than his name, three weapons at his side, in the place he would later find out was called twilight town. Everything was forgotten. A human mind could only take so much trauma before it either broke or sealed everything away.
(KHI and KHII- 22 to 24)
After that, he had been taking jobs for money...or munny in this case. It ranged from small deliveries to outright exterminations of large hordes of enemies. Heartless, nobodies, humans, it was a mix. Struggling to find what happened...to remember. In his journeys, fragments and pieces would come back to him. He would remember glimpses of his life, the people he had befriended. In dreams they would be laughing, happy without a care in the world. But in the nightmares...
A burning town...
Bodies littering the street...
But the most painful...
A face of a girl, smiling at him while blood before evaporating in front of his eyes, white orbs of light floating off and leaving his sight. It would wrench at his heart and he would awaken with tears flooding his eyes.
(WD- 26) Now, he wanders still, searching for a way to his world, his world, his home and what had become of it. He was determined to find his memories.
He would find who he was.
And he would find who she was.

Sileo
Cold wind blew in a steady, cool pace around him, Kuroda appreciating the breeze while he relaxed under a grand oak's shadow, perched right on top of a hill overlooking the bright city of Kumono. His face was lit up by a small smirk in the peace of things. Solitude was a welcome concept for the ten year old warrior, after all.
Rushing a gloved clothed hand through his hair, the blonde opened the small book he had brought with him. His eyes scanned the pages, taking it in as the leaves above him swayed with the wind, the serenity of it all comforting him. Rays of the morning sunlight peeked from the leaves, patches of yellow shining under the shade provided by the tree. He could smell the scent of blooming flowers, the honey coated smell of the forests telling of the summer days still to come. Everything seemed so peaceful up here...
Of course...
"Kurooodaaaa,"
Peace was so easily disrupted.
"Found ya, spiky!" A raven haired girl with her hair tied in a ponytail exclaimed with a grin, poking her head from behind the tree and right over his head.
"Anna." He greeted without even looking at her, the girl frowning at his lack of attention towards herself.
"Hey," She whined, "it's not nice to ignore others."
"Really?" He tore his eyes away from his book.
"Yep."
"Do forgive me." He turned back to his literature with a small smirk, Anna groaning in exasperation, "You haven't changed at all."
"I could say the same to you."
Anna smiled, plopping down beside him with a good natured fist to his shoulder, "You didn't even greet me with a hug. Its been so long since we've seen each other."
Kuroda scoffed, "We had lunch together, yesterday."
"Maybe...but I wanna hug!"
"What? Do I look like I'm a teddy bear?" Kuroda gave her an annoyed glance, "You want a hug, go find a toy store."
"But I want one of your hugs, spiky!" He groaned in aggravation, though he could feel the large grin spread across his companion's lips. Why couldn't she act more serious? She was as old as him, she got the same training as him, why did she have to be so childish?
Anna attempted to wrap her arms around him, all the while with a grin of mischief along with a look in her eyes to match it. He was already prepared when she thoroughly glomped him, but couldn't help the soft smile that had crept up on his lips.
"Missed you too..."
Kuroda's eyes flickered back into the real world, shaking his head, as if to shake away the cobwebs in his mind. His memory of that date was still clear as now. His hands shaked in anticipation, red orbs watching the gate in front of him rattle with every strike the creatures behind it threw. Parts of the wood creaked, and the metal hinges groaned as the never ending onslaught continued.
"Well," A familiar voice drawled beside him, "I'm guessing you're not gonna make any heroic speeches to rally the troops?"
His lips twinged into a smile, his gaze directing itself to his best friend, Anna, the girl changing very little of herself over the past few years.
"Not my job. Commander Siegfried is the leader of the SHADOW corps. Let him do the talking."
"You're getting lazier by the day." Anna giggled.
"You're an influence in that aspect." Kuroda shot back, Kusanagi oddly feeling lighter in his hands, as Anna did her best to ease his spirit.
"Penny for your thoughts?" She asked him.
"It's nothing. Just battle jitters." Kuroda replied, giving the girl a small dismissing wave.
Anna shook her head, "Still too selfish to share your problems with the world, Kuroda? I thought you outgrew that habit."
He laughed.
Silence then reigned over the pair, the sounds of soldiers preparing to fight for their homes running amok as they set defenses to delay the horde of heartless banging on their doorstep. His hand clutched Kusanagi with a cold dread, another wave of uneasiness hitting him and Anna.
Of all the times Kuroda had been put in a life or death situation, this one, by far, would be the worst.
Outnumbered, outgunned and the majority of them were probably outclassed, bar the SHADOW corps members that had been sent, him and Anna included. He just hoped the castle would be able to respond quick enough for them to withdraw, otherwise, he doubted any of them would live to see the next day break over night. Everything would come down on them first, they were the kingdom's first and only line of defense against the heartless marching towards them. Legions of them, just waiting to invade his home.
"Over my dead body." Kuroda growled under his breath.
"Hey, Kuroda..."
"Hm?"
"You think there are other worlds out there?" Anna stared wistfully at the night sky, "I heard the science department is making something designed for space travel...I wanna be the first to ride in it."
"It's not an amusement park, Anna." He smiled at her.
"Yeah," She giggled in response, "but...I wanna live out there. Find new things, meet new people...this world...all my life...all our life, we've been nothing more than weapons. What if we can go somewhere else? Where we can live easy?"
If he were to be honest, Kuroda saw such a thing as naive. But he could understand Anna. Freedom from the guilt of the lives he had taken, a chance to move pass his ghosts...Anna and him. Just the two of them. He bet they could start something. Kuroda could set up some sort of shop as a mercenary, Anna would probably set up something like a shop for things Kuroda could get his hands on in that line of work.
"Yeah," He muttered, "it sounds nice."
BANG
CRACK
Guns were cocked, swords were drawn and the gate splintered.
"Here they come." Kuroda said, Kusanagi poised and ready at his side. Anna nodded, drawing her blade and giving him a shaky smile.
"Bet I can take out more than you."
Kuroda smirked, "You're on."

I have school so forgive me if I cannot change everything in three or so days. Please at least remember that school life can be a hectic life, along with parents being strict. I may not update for a week at a time. If it exceeds that, then I will post in 'Departure'.
