In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

—In Fantasia as well as other worlds, a golden eyed person wearing a black coat appears, who is he?
Nomura: He is the mysterious man who appeared in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix as a boss who manipulated time. Just who he is will be told in KH3D. Everywhere he goes, a few people of the darkness turn up, like how Vanitas came out in the trailer.
There. I put the direct quote, spoilers and all down. -.- They're talking about a certain golden-eyed person that I really don't feel like spoiling for everybody. It's official, we know the Mysterious Figure's face.
...It's the Realm of Sleep? *pokes Sora and Riku's youthful appearances* The room looks nothing like the Room of Sleep, plus several chairs are spotted in that scene... all similar to the ones located in Where Nothing Gathers. Though this may be pure and utter "speculation", I'm pretty much betting on a dream-like TWTNW.
It's a large white room with a chair. It looks just like the Room of Sleep, another large white room with a chair inside it. That it was followed up by a sweeping shot of Where Nothing Gathers confuses matters, I see more reasoning for Sora to be sitting where Ventus did, than where Roxas or any other Organization member did. This, of course, is considering that he may be there along with Riku, who was pinned down by Ansem in an earlier scene, though Sora was no where to be seen.
This answers itself. The thoughts regarding Mysterious Figure were confirmed by Nomura and now they're considered as facts for any future speculation. It's more like a thing we saw coming XD but we weren't quite sure about; nothing wrong with confirming the connection.

It should be notable, however, that despite confirming the younger Xehanort's identity by name, Nomura makes no such connection to the Mysterious Figure, and consistently refers to him in pronouns. Even should he be related to Xehanort in this form, that may not mean that he IS. After all, as pointed out in the "theory" thread previously linked, if Master Xehanort could simply rewind time, he could easily make himself young again, why would he need Terra to begin with? That said, though we have seen a young Xehanort, and we have seen this Mysterious Figure unhooded, we have nothing to establish that the two of them are indeed the same individual, in a universe where Vanitas, Roxas, Ventus, and Sora are all individual entities who look the same, haircut varying.

I find this most telling. If he were simply Master Xehanort, wouldn't we already know him? Wouldn't "Young Xehanort" suffice? Clearly there is something more to this individual than being assumed.
Given that post-KH2 he would be working with a defeated Heartless and Nobody, I think it would be fair to assume he would be suitably weaker as well, so time-traveling would be a hell of a feat from someone who has never demonstrated the ability before in all of his history.
Short version, and my ultimate point here, so long as Nomura continually refers to the Mysterious Figure in ambiguous manners, we shouldn't assume he has a name.

Correction: a large white room with SEVERAL chairs, each of them located at a different level which is pretty much what was going on in o.o What Nothing Gathers. Heck, even the symbols on the floor and walls resemble those in the room o.o and not the ones in the Chamber of Waking (note: multiple chairs and equal symbols are seen in both shots).

I too doubt that this younger Xehanort is the real deal, but the connection between this entity and the Mysterious Figure has been confirmed. It's a fact: they're the same person, though their connection to the actual Master Xehanort is yet to be revealed. In-game content will tell us more about it, as suggested later in the same interview.

Pause the shot where Sora is sitting in the chair. He is sitting with the chair at ground-level, and the floor is identical to the Room of Awakening (not Room of Sleep as I previously and erroneously said). The shot following, MX is seated with hooded members around him. Sora is no where to be seen. Despite white walls and prevalent chairs, the two scenes appear to be no way related by location.

Which is exactly my point. I do recall people saying "Why is Roxas there if this takes place ten years ago?" when Ven appeared in the BbS trailers. And though I called Terra becoming Ansem from the get-go, I don't think that Nomura is being dodgy without reason. If the MF and YX are one and the same, why stop referring to them as one and the same, and begin to differentiate them by referring to one by name, and the other by ambiguous pronoun? It's an odd move for something that has been "revealed". To that end, a connection has been revealed. But nothing has been unveiled, and certainly no identity has been made clear.

Zomg! It comes out in less than a month in a half. I've already got the Mark of Mastery edition pre-ordered (Which I hope turns out to be worth it. It sounds a little weird. I was also looking forward to the possibility of a 3DS Bundle like they did with BBS, but oh well. Now I have to buy the 3DS separate)
Anyone else have it pre-ordered and waiting for them to get on July 31st?
Now that car repairs are behind me and things are back on financial track, I need to start storing money away for a 3ds and 3D. My panels at fall conventions depend on it!
