Nightfall: Chapter 2
Two years after the events of Dream Drop Distance, the Darkness became so great that it swallowed the worlds, locking them away within its merciless abyss.
Twilight Town, now covered in eternal night, stands as one of last Sanctuaries of Light. It is where players begin their journey.
Ever resourceful, the Moogles have created a safe place for refugees. They have charged the Denizens of Light with finding Castle Oblivion: it holds a key to the puzzle of the lost worlds.
But within the dark shadows of the sanctuary world a powerful dark force still looms, waiting to strike. Each survivor must choose whether to go to Castle Oblivion or stay behind to protect the world from the dragon that lurks in the shadows.

[Continuing from 'Opening Gambit' in Radient Garden]
After guiding Rook through the realm of darkness, leaving Cid, Sephiroth, and Leon behind, Jason appeared in the first district of Traverse Town along with Rook. Just then Jason would close the portal and look at Rook. "Well, since you know the truth about me, at least I dont have to worry about explaining myself to you. But I do need to find out why I was sent to help you. That much is certain." He said to Rook, pulling out his crystal ball and looking at it. He had to find out what to do next.
Rook looked about. This old Victorian town was a definate shift in style when compared to the wreck and ruin of Hollow Bastion. He stared at his new surroundings for a good long minute. This was the first time he had been away form Hollow Bastion in all his life.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jason produce the crystal ball. "And? Why were you sent to find me..?"

Hearing the words, still looking into his crystal ball, Jason said to Rook "That is what I am trying to find out... My crystal ball sends me off to find others whose hearts are damaged in one way or another. They may not realize it, but it is true. Though sometimes..." Jason then held out his crystal ball for Rook to take and look into. "The crystal ball doesnt allow me to see how they need help. It has others see where they need to go and how they need help. Take a look into the ball and tell me what you see." He added, wondering if Rook would actually take it.
Rook stared reluctantly. Minutes ticked away around him as he watched the ball as if it would do a trick. Finally, he took the crystal ball and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, before opening his eyes and staring into the ball.
Images flashed inside the ball, flickers of both familiar and unfamiliar sights: A girl with auburn hair and blue eyes. An island with sandy beaches and a stormy night, a row boat caught in the middle of the waves. Hollow Bastion: his old shanty home and a firepit, spending nights with a demon from his past. Finally, a card-themed melee weapon with a keychain on its handle, shrouded in darkness, and falling further into it.
With the last image, he gave a startled gasp, before tossing the ball back to Jason. He stared at the ball as if it told a dirty joke. It confused him, but he knew what he had seen couldn't be unseen.

As Jason watched Rook look into the crystal ball, Jason wondered what the crystal ball was showing him. But soon after, Jason saw Rook toss the crystal ball toward him. Catching it, He asked "So, what did you see in the crystal ball?" He was curious as to why Rook would throw it back the way he did. So Jason would continue to watch him, waiting to hear what Rook would say.
For a moment, Rook contemplated telling Jason that the ball showed him nothing. That it was just a blank piece of glass. However, he came here willingly. If something were to be done, it would have to be compliant with the rest of it.
"I saw a girl from a World I haven't been too before, covered in palm trees and oceans. It was storming there. Then I saw... someone from my past whom I thought left me for dead. And then I saw a weapon with a keychain, enshrouded in darkness."
He felt like he was rambling, and at the same time, as if he wasn't teling Jason enough. Even still, what could be done? Were these all things that were meant to happen? Or possible angles of a possible future? Perhaps Jason could decipher more.

Hearing the words, Jason thought for a moment. "Hmm... A world covered in palm trees and oceans... Thats gotta be Destiny Islands. A girl on that island in the middle of a storm... Hmm.. Then the girl from your past... Odd to hear about.... Probably even more odd to see... And a weapon with a keychain... Must be a keyblade, but the part about it shrouded in darkness probably means that it is becoming lost to the darkness... Hmm..." He said outloud, though they were more his thoughts. The most he was able to tell Rook was the name of the islands were Destiny Islands, and the weapon was a Keyblade, but that was pretty much it. Either way, Jason wasnt sure what it all meant, though there were a lot of things that the crystal ball showed Jason that he didnt understand.
"So what does that all add up to," Rook asked, giving Jason a doubting look of confusion, "I don't know Destiny Islands, I don't possess a Keyblade, and I know the girl from my past... her name is Laurel, and things between us are chaotic to say the least."
Jason didn't seem to know, and Rook had even less of an answer. At least he could try to elaborate on Jason's answers some. Together, he figured, they could come to a conclusion, and figure out what all of this nonsense meant to Rook.

Thinking about what was said to him, Jason finally said to Rook "Well... The keyblade is a very powerful weapon. The fact that it is becoming lost to the darkness isnt the best of things to hear about.... As for that girl, Laurel.... It could mean that you may encounter her again in the near future. And for the islands.... I dont understand the significance of the storm, but perhaps going there will make things better."
Rook nodded. This whole concept was over his head, so he was forcing himself to make-do with the ideas. "Then I think Destiny Islands should be the first place I go... Laurel's path and mine always seem to cross in Hollow Bastion, so I can deal with that when I get back there. The Keyblade isn't even anything I possess, though. So I have no idea what to do with that one."
He leaned against a brick wall close to a set of stairs that led to the upper shops, "Destiny Islands, though. That could be as much a vacation as a trial. And going there should be enough for me to figure out what it is I need to do, I suppose..." He was grasping for straws with his thought process. He had no idea how this worked.

Hearing the words, Jason nodded. "As a place has been shown, it is a place that we should go to. However, is there anything you feel that needs to be done here in Traverse Town before we leave?" Jason said, ready to make a portal at a moments notice. If Rook were to say yes, then he would continue to help out. If he said know, then Jason would open a portal to the play island of Destiny Islands.
Rook took a quick look around. Again, this was the first time he had been taken somewhere away from Hollow Bastion. "Depends, I guess... what's here? What is there to do? Am I needed for anything here?"
Rook stared at the large door to his left, the one that led to the Third District. "I mean, why would you bring me here, to this World? Is it important to your grand scheme or just a refuge from Hollow Bastion?"

"Traverse Town is the place that was shown to me when I found you. After finding you and looking into it, it showed a picture of Traverse Town. I felt that is where I needed to take you. Perhaps Traverse Town will help you unlock a few other things that you need to know. Perhaps wandering around will give you some more answers as to why you saw what you did." Jason said to Rook, speaking the truth in his words. He wasnt sure why his crystal ball showed him what it did, but he didnt usually question it. It had led him far for a long time, so he would be fine letting it lead him yet again.
Rook nodded. He knew a mission when it was spoken to him. And while this whole venture could never be seen as anything official in any sense of the term, it was something he would have to do for himself. He had fought hundreds of Heartless in his years. Maybe more. When the Heartless armies invaded the Bastion and nearly overran it in shadow, Rook did his fair share of the fighting in the wastelands, clearing out canyons and ridges. He would never let his own Heart sink into Darkness like that. Never.
"What should I expect inside," He asked, looking at the giant doors that led to the next Districts, "Heartless? Nobodies? Worse?"

After noticing Rook looking at the door to the third district, and the question coming, Jason stated "With the way the times are going now, it is tough to tell... I can say that that door leads to the 3rd district of Traverse Town. This is the 1st district. The 3rd district is the most dangerous of the 3 while this one is the safest." He didnt really know what to expect behind those doors because it was always different every time he came here. So he wouldnt be able to give Rook a decent answer.
