In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

The dusk was cool today. Storm clouds hung benevolently overhead, sprinkling lightly on the golden city, giving the wind a healing touch on what would be a rather hot day. The sun barely breached the clouds, hiding between the peak of two mountains in the far distance, turning the skies into royal shades of purple and pink. Namine found days like today to be the ones she enjoyed most. Her vibrant eyes stared lazily into the sky, her back flattened out on a picnic blanket. Sunset Hill was the perfect place for a picnic, Olette had been right. At first she had debated that the tram and occasional stray would make it difficult to relax, but her friend had insisted.
Sure enough, the others had already headed out for the day (to finish some sort of homework) and she'd discovered that the summer showers of Twilight Town were unparalleled in beauty. The blonde Nobody pushed herself up and yawned. Perhaps it was about time to disappear herself... She stretched and began the menial task of putting the picnic supplies away, pulling an umbrella out to help with the very mild sprinkling, in the event that it worsened. In no time at all the Nobody had things packed up and she lifted herself from the ground, dusting off the knees of her khaki capri's. Her fingers closed around the handle of the picnic basket when he stopped.
A shiver went up her spine as an odd sixth sense sent a beacon out. It was that moment of fear when you were almost certain that someone or something was standing directly behind you. Or was at least in the general vicinity of her current position. Namine turned slowly, reaching for her sketchbook-
Please let it be something good.

The seasons changed differently in Twilight Town than they did on Destiny Islands. Summer was softer here and more mellow, with the sun forever rising…or setting (Sora could never tell which) behind gentle rainclouds. There was beauty in it, but Sora wasn’t really thinking about that-- It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate beautiful things, but he was often to busy and too focused on the task at hand to really pay attention to them.
Anyway, he was here on business. There was a tomato shortage back home due to weather conditions on the mainland and they were getting ridiculously expensive. Sora’s mother was going to make her famous Island Pizza for his birthday, but wasn’t going to spend an arm and leg for poor quality tomatoes. In an effort to help both his mom and his birthday, he volunteered to take a trip Off-World to see if anyone else was having better luck. Radiant Garden was still getting back on its feet, so he didn’t want to bother them with tomato requests. Twilight Town seemed like a good solution.
Besides he owed his friends there a visit.
When he arrived, instead of going straight to the marketplace, he got distracted by the tram going round and round and round and couldn’t resist taking a ride. When he got off, he started exploring aimlessly, enjoying the scenery and getting lightly rained on. He didn’t mind. This was fun! Eventually he made his way to Sunset Hill.
Namine's heart skipped a beat, her excitement and fear so overwhelming that she didn't pause to scold herself for using that expression. The girl ran towards him, waving, and nearly collided with him, skidding to a halt just inches away from him. It was Sora alright! That mop was identifiable pretty much anywhere. She drew back slightly, biting her lip as she realized that sure enough, she was face to face with him again. After so long, she could talk to him as her own person. She grinned.
"It's nice to see you again," she mumbled, holding her sketchbook to her chest. "What have you been up to the past year and a half?" Even when she lived within Kairi, they hadn't exactly been aware of what was happening in the outside world. Instead, she and Roxas spent their days in a memory duplication of Twilight Town while Roxas learned more about his somebody. Actually talking to Sora was a no-go, but Namine put that thought out of mind the moment that she had reunited with her Somebody. At the time she just thought it wasn't meant to be. Sora would always be her friend, but they were separated by more than just Worlds. Existence separated them- Sora belonged, Namine did not. But... It was nice to be able to communicate with him again. I've missed you. The words never left her lips but she couldn't help but think it. He was one of her best friends, even if he couldn't remember.
Memories. Those would wait for now. Another time, another thread. Namine had some questions to ask. And maybe a favor, if Sora was cool with it. She had always been rather weak, never able to protect herself. Whether it be Marluxia or Axel, Riku, or DiZ, somebody had always controlled and led her, moving her to the next goal. But now she had the Keyblade... And she wanted to know how to use it. How to protect herself.

“Whoa!” Sora exclaimed as a girl with fair skin and blonde hair came hurdling towards him. He couldn’t help but laugh for her excitement—joy was contagious and Sora was a very good conductor. But when the moment had passed he could not help but stare for a moment, confused at what he was seeing.
“I’m sorry…do I know you?” He asked, rubbing the back of his neck, feeling at once embarrassed and lost. There was something incredibly familiar about this person, and yet he had no recollection of where or when he could have met her. He prided himself at being able to remember names and faces easily, but this girl eluded him. Those bright blue eyes, the kind smile…why she looked just like Kairi!
Who in the Worlds was this girl with Kairi’s face? Oh, why couldn’t he remember? It was driving him crazy. He knew this girl. He just KNEW he knew her. She spoke to him, and his heart responded with feelings of warmth and friendship—they were connected. There was no mistaking it, yet as he searched his memory, he could find nothing, no name, no event to tie together. Only vague feelings and a promise.
Kairi had always been the one better in tune and aware of that which occurred in her heart, she seemed to be familiar with her own Nobody. She had even spoken of her on occasion (though it did not occur to him at the time that she would look just like her). Sora certainly had a difficult time putting names to things he did not understand and unlike Kairi, he had never been very attune with Roxas or the things he desired. The Nobodies were a difficult concept for him to grasp, in general.
Far easier to put things into neat categories of: friend or foe.
This girl was certainly a friend. The question was…who was she?

Namine paused as Sora's expression went from joy to confusion. That's right, he'd only seen her once in his memory, over a year ago. And she hadn't even spoken to him; instead, she called on Roxas inside of him. She laughed softly. "I'm sorry, I forgot- I'm Namine. I worked with Riku and Axel for a short time, but you never got to meet me directly." Maybe no memories meant that they could get off to a good start, for once. You know, instead of her demolishing his memories to put herself in Kairi's place. She internally groaned. Let's not go anywhere near memories for a little while, the Nobody told herself.
"Anyways, I was kind of a help during your fight against the Organization. But we never got to meet before the journey ended so I winded up going home. I think we actually met once, just for a fraction of a second, but I never talked to you." That was... somewhat close to the truth. But it would work for the time being. Still, that was beside the point- Sora didn't tend to stay on one World long, so it was now or never. "Can I ask you a favor?" she continued, holding her right arm outwards. The air seemed to fragment and twist, and a Keyblade materialized in her outstretched palm. It seemed to be a katana with several strange, ivory-like carvings wrapped around it. She held it out to show him. "I don't know how to use it- think you could give me a few tips?"
Simple, right? And the Sunset Hill was the perfect place to practice, with multiple levels and scenarios.

“Ohhh, Namine!” Yes! This name rang a bell! In fact, it rang several. In fact, hers was the first name he had encountered upon waking up from his year-long sleep. Jiminy noted it in his journal. The brief image he had of her before was becoming clearer; The girl in the white dress. She had helpedthem, hadn’t she? And there was some connection to Kairi, this he knew.
“Hey! Wait, I’m supposed to tell you something!” He looked into her clear blue eyes, smiled.
“Thank you, Namine.”
Though he couldn’t remember what it was she had done for him, he knew it was something important whatever it was, he was grateful. She was a true friend and friends deserved to be remembered. He would never forget again.
“A favor? Sure!” What happened next was unexpected. Before his eyes, reality seemed to shimmer and shift, producing a Keyblade fitting for the fair-haired Nobody. So, Namine was chosen by the Keyblade too. He was learning more and more about this girl by the minute, “Of course I’ll help you. Have you ever fought with it before?” He asked.

Namine paused. What could he possibly have to tell her? They... no longer knew each other. Or, his mind didn't. On the dark side of his Heart their chain held strong, although it was stained by the deception that had been between them, or Namine felt that way at least. She nodded to him to continue. Thank you, Namine.
Shock ran through her, her face breaking into a blush. Not out of embarrassment or shame, but out of anger. She hid it behind her petite hands, the anger she had at herself. He wasn't supposed to thank her. She'd done all of this, it was her fault. The small girl, normally so calm and collected, frowned behind her hands, grimacing. No. He couldn't thank her yet. That wasn't fair to him. The girl wiped a tear from her eye and breathed deeply. "Thanks, Sora. It means a lot," she stammered. But secretly she raged at her own words. They weren't deserved- she would have to work hard to break even with her friend. She missed the time they spent together in which he knew her as a close friend- the time he was trying to save her. And maybe one day they could be that close again. But this time, it would be real.
The Keyblade levitated around the girl and she closed her fingers around the hilt. The fabric that covered it felt odd in her hands- she had never held it directly before. It normally did its own thing, protecting her when she willed it, but now hopefully she could use it to its full extent. "I'm a fast learner, but I'm new at this. So bear with me." She grinned, her gaze aware and rather stoic, which wasn't normal for the blonde Nobody. But the corners of her mouth said it all- she was still smiling slightly, albeit trying to hide it. The optimist was back and ready to go.

Though he was not terribly intelligent by anyone’s standards, Sora was remarkably perceptive when it came to matters of the heart and while it may have been anger that flamed just beneath the surface of Namine’s sweet words, at the heart of anger is sadness. It it was this sadness that he sensed now (though he did not understand it).
He watched her grip the remarkable weapon known as the Keyblade and her discomfort had given way to something much more powerful and determined. Here she showed a budding confidence and determination. Well, Sora was ready and eager to help in any way he knew how.
Namine nodded. "You asked for it!" A small smile was hidden beneath determination as she jumped forward, swinging the Keyblade. The weight of the item was surprisingly light, but still a little odd for the girl. She was no warrior, after all.
Sora blocked it with languid ease, battle instincts honed from months of traveling kicking into gear. The Keyblade was truly a marvelous weapon, easy for the wielder to use because it effortlessly became an extension of the person. The blue-eyed boy nodded and let her make the next offensive move again
Namine jumped back, attempting to find some balance with the new weapon. Her hands fumbled with it and she jumped forward again, slowly finding a more appropriate way to attack. The Keyblade shot towards Sora and she made an attampt to combine a series of attacks. "Do you have any tips?" she asked between breaths.
"Stay light on your feet. Keep moving." Sora replied, blocking each attack, pivoting and swerving around her attacks. Though he was not a highly trained swordsman (a master might have scoffed at his technique), Sora had fiercely accurate instincts and seemed to know what things worked and what didn’t.
“Try to block this!” He swung his weapon in an arc over his head and downward towards the girl i
Namine's arm buckled under the blow and she jumped away. This wasn't working. She bit her lip in aggravation as she looked to him. In a moment of hope, she let go of the weapon and it floated in front of her. Would this work? She moved again, swinging her arm, and the Keyblade flashed through the air towards her opponent. She needed to practice, make sure it would work... Turn her defense into an attack. She didn't have the strength to do this herself, but her magical abilities had always helped her before.
“Whoa!” Sora bent his knees and turned his keyblade up to block the attack. “That’s awesome, Namine!” He grinned, triumphantly, as if he had accomplished the deed himself, “Can you do that a lot without getting tired out?” Even as he spoke, he did not stop moving, coming at her now from the side.
"Uhh..." She jumped back, folding her arms to her side. The Keyblade followed, swinging in an arc to intercept the attack. "It takes energy, but it defends me automatically. It's always done that," she responded. "But you can do this with two, can't you?"
"That's good." He said, commenting on her interception, "But you need to have a stronger stance so you can have good balance and move faster. Bend your knees." He batted at her Keyblade, testing her strength a little more, "Yeah. With two, you have to be really on your game." She did as he said. With a bend of the knee she jumped backwards, finding a stance that she felt comfortable with. The Keyblade floated in front of her, a shield against attacks. Her blue eyes sharpened in on him. It drained her slowly to attack, but... She could do this. She threw her arms out, sending the Keyblade towards Sora, and threw it into a frenzy.
With that bolt of energy, the Keyblade flew at him, spinning flailing at him with a newfound sense of purpose as though infused with greater willpower than before, "Now that's more like it!" The boy crowed, using his own speed to block the attacks which came at him in a series of three sharp blows, "Every attack should be like that one! It'll take practice, but I bet after a while, it'll be easy.
She dropped her arms and the Keyblade came back to her. A pang of guilt rang through her. "You mean it?" It'd be easy. Just like Sora. She'd made a promise that she'd protect him- it was a long time ago, but it was there. Learning from Sora would never let her overcome him- it would only let her meet his skill level. She needed a proper trainer. Her arms rose once more. The Keyblade flared to life. She'd get better than Sora, whatever it took. Then she'd fulfill her promise.
"Ha! And your opponent will be so busy defending himself from that attack, that you could be half way across the other side of the room and he wouldn't know!" 'Course I mean it." Sora meant everything he said, "Do you want to take a break?"
She shook her head. "No. I need to make this work." Her footing was still feeble- she wasn't sure of it. She needed to practice her fancy footwork, to better her balance. "But this won't just be great immediately." The Keyblade floated around her, mimicking its natural state of protection. "I rely on magic a lot."
"It's gonna take time to build up your strength. You're already doing really well. And there's ntohing wrong with relying on magic a lot--I do it too. The Keyblade is great for making magical attacks even stronger." "'Sides not everyone can do magic."
Not everyone...? She smiled. He was always so optimistic. So it was magic time. Namine's sketchbook fluttered to life in front of her and she flicked through the pages with her seemingly telepathic bond. Spells littered the paper- she couldn't flip through them and fight.
"What's that?" 'My sketchbook,' she responded. 'It holds spells and lets me use them at will.' Her fingers brushed them to the side and they separated into strips- a spell apiece. The strips binded to her arms. Now she could access them easily. 'I have to touch the memory to use them, but it saves mana.' Spells on strips of paper? Memory? "Ok, I have no idea what you're talking about, but if it works, great! Let's see it in action." Sora sped at her, going for a lower attack this time, aimed to knock her down by the knees. Namine nodded. "My spells don't need words as long as I have their memory." Sora dove at her and she jumped back, pointing the Keyblade underneath her. This was how she used it- as a medium between her and her magic. The Keyblade glowed a light blue for a fraction of a second before the Blizzard spell clashed against the ground, leaving a wall of icecicles.
Sora saw the spell coming and put his speed and agility to good use, launching himself in the air and flipping over her and the icicle barrier—it wasn’t a common skill as one would think. Whether by virtue of the keyblade, training, or simple inborn talent--Sora was an excellent jumper.
“If you can get that spell to form a circle that surrounds you on all sides, then I won’t be able to do this.” He said, tapping her shoulder from behind.
Namine nodded. Maybe somebody who focused entirely on power would hae fallen into it. But to form that on all sides- oh! She had an idea. Namine lifted her weapon and the ribbons of memory shined. A reflect spell shrouded her, the telltale light bending around her making her form shimmer. With that, she hit the blizzard spell once more- Except on herself. The blizzard attempted to condense-But the spell stopped it. The shards of ice paused as the Reflect spell buffeted them away... And Namine dropped the spell. The Reflect died away and the shards fell. "Would that work?"
“Looks good! Do it again, and this time I’ll send a blizzard spell at you. See how well it holds up.” Namine nodded and readied herself. "Be careful okay?" It was Reflect, after all
Sora gave a cheerful, careless nod and backed away to cast his ranged spell. Being careful was probably the last thing on his mind, if ever it entered his mind at any single point in time. With that he aimed the Kingdom Key for Namine and released three clean bolts of ice.
Namine threw her Keyblade in front of her. It levitated vertically and the Reflect spell shimmered around her. The ice hit hard. The first hit to the side, leaving it impaled at an angle while the second and third hit dead on. The Reflect spell burst, expelling the icecicles in different directions. It was then that Namine knew what she would do- she could create a grenade of sorts-with her own spells, by reflecting them away from her. It would throw them out at all angles, possibly creating both a shield and defense. *a shield and attack.
Now she was getting it. Her defense was also her attack, taking the energy and redirecting it towards the enemy. It was a style of fighting that seemed well-suited to Namine, "How about one more time?" Sora asked, not wanting to push her to exhaustion, but excited at her progress and wanting to see just how far she could go.
Namine nodded. "Yes, I want to try again." She summoned her Keyblade to her side. It was straining her, controlling the object, but when it came to defensive spells the weight disappeared. She activated the Reflect again, summoning the ice once more. It coated her invisible shield, the white crystals dotting the area around her evenly. The strain of the channeled magic was strong, but he could press through. As the Reflect began to cumulate damage she let go, sending a jettison of shrapnel in every general direction. She only hoped that she didn't hurt her friend.
The Reflect spell was incredibly well-crafted. Sora's attacks were almost useless against it, forcing him to duck and dodge against his own blizzard spells, narrowly twisting out of the way. That is until he sent one volley of ice attacks a little too quickly and a little too many and one stray shard managed to graze his left cheek. It hurt a little, but Sora was hardly concerned because, "That spell of yours is awesome. I couldn't teach it to you better."
Namine nodded, moving forward. "You got hurt," she said lightly as her Keyblade floated lazily to her side. Her hands brushed his cheeks and the familiar warmth of healing coated the cut. But she couldn't help but enjoy the compliment. She wasn't the best at attacking, but she could defend herself.
Sora kept still as the girl with Kairi’s face brushed her small hands lightly against his face, applying her healing magic. He could feel the spell draw out the pain, leaving behind healthy skin, as though the wound had never been. Spells like this gave Sora the appearance of being deceptively young both in body and spirit. For though he had seen many battles and fought many a demon and dragon beyond the years of a seasoned knight of King Arthur’s court, they left not a single scar on his body.
The only evidence of his wounds took the form of a boy with yellow hair, with steel in his eyes and a hollow in his chest.
“Thanks.” Sora said with a smile, “Yeah, I got an idea. How about an ice cream break?”
Perhaps Sora was not as motivated as Namine was to improve her fighting ability. Of course, he was happy to help and do whatever he could to make his friends happy, but on his short list of priorities (if indeed he was capable of prioritizing), turning Namine into a lean, mean fighting machine in the next hour was not high on the list. Even while sparring with his friends on the islands, Sora never showed a fiery passion for training (which is partly why Riku beat him all the time). He’d much rather be relaxing and hanging out on the beach. Was Sora’s work ethic a little bit lacking? Sure. Was his enthusiasm for life lacking? Not a bit!
(Heh, it's funny Roze asked me the same question about a thread we're in. I don't think we should worry too much about direction or end-goal. These are just two characters doing a scene together, reacting the way they react. If we do have to pick a direction, I'd say it would be related to Namine's apparent unresolved inner conflicts, but even if we just rp to the natural end of the scene, I'd be happy. The two of them eating ice cream or sharing stories (simple as it may be) is basis for good character development and we can fall back on it later on. I suppose it would be called long-form improvisation.)
