In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Position: Chaotic Neutral by definition, though closer to True Neutral in terms of ultimate morals.
Powers/Abilities/Techniques/Skills: Steal: A thief first and last, Oliver strives to perfect the art of stealing. He’s not one for high-profile heists; pickpocketing seems much more intricate and challenging to him, so he is devoted to it. He has the ability to walk by someone and pilfer a potion, or even an item of substantial weight and size. Even in battle, he can try to take something from one’s bag without them even noticing while feigning an attack. [Three-post cooldown after use]
Flee: A true thief recognizes his limits, and seeing as though he doesn’t like head-on confrontation anyway, he has gotten skilled in the discipline of “stealing away.” In the midst of battle, Oliver can locate a good escape route and get the hell out of dodge. Some call it cowardice, he calls it self-interest. [Once per battle, obviously. Cannot enter a battle after fleeing.]
Pilfer Munny: Oliver is a fan of wealth, and thusly has worked tirelessly to find a way to accumulate it. Even in battle, he can pretend to attack while actually reaching into the opponent’s munny pouch and helping himself. [Five-post cooldown after use.]
Pilfer HP: By association with his local Thieves’Guild, Oliver has learned the ability to steal even life force, concentrating and drawing that of the enemy and adding a small amount to his own. He can’t really take much, but sometimes a little is all you need to give yourself a little edge in battle. Overall, this works best in battles in which he is outnumbered. [Can use on up to five targets at once. Five-post cooldown.]
Double-Attack: Oliver can hit the enemy twice in quick succession, thus causing double the amount of damage than he would have with a single attack. It is taxing, though, and takes a bit of time before he can do it again. [Five-post cooldown]
Caution: Oliver is in a constant state of awareness; many years of mistakes and scars have taught him to focus on the environment to prevent surprise attacks. The attempts of all but the most stealthy (i.e. trained) individuals will more than likely be foiled (and probably met with a blade).
Feint: Oliver pretends to attack, causing the opponent to focus on defending themselves. Directly after this, Oliver has enough time to do any one action. This attack is meant to make the enemy go off-balance so that Oliver can do his next action more or less without fail. [Subject to many variables, but as said this generally succeeds in the mission of lowering enemy evasion.]
Pre-emptive Strike: Clearly applying only just before a battle, Oliver can stealthily approach and attack a target to begin the battle without them noticing his approach. When the battle starts, however, Oliver no longer has the element of surprise. [Needless to say, only possible when Oliver decides to start a battle, which is not often.]
Weapon/Items: Oliver’s weapon of choice is the dagger, which he prefers due to being concealable yet potentially deadly. Though he had no formal training for dagger combat, he is skilled in the user thereof due to years of experience. He likes to strike fast and hard, for the sake of causing the maximum damage while staying out of range as long as possible. His current dagger of choice is the Mithril Knife, though he finds it rather basic and seeks a new one.
Oliver, for some reason, adores capes and is always wearing one. The true reason behind this is that they allow him to dodge attacks better because when moving around, the cape spreads and gives the opponent a bigger visual area to attack. Currently equipped is a Short Cape, which only goes down to his lower back. It’s nothing special, but he is always on the lookout for something new.
Picture:
Appearance: Oliver has light hair down to his ears. His eyes are brown and his skin is light. He is tall and skinny, and has little to no muscle. In terms of clothing, he prefers to wear a black, long-sleeved shirt along with slightly baggy brown pants. His boots are made of leather and go up to about six inches below his knee. The pants overlap, but are attached to his shins by crisscrossing leather straps. His favorite article of clothing, however, is his duster. It is dark brown in color, going down to his ankles. The top area (from the neck down to a few inches down) is white, and the coat itself has white trim. The inside of the coat is white fleece, and the coat has silver fastenings. From the left to the right side of the waist are two chains, both in front. He always has a cape of some kind on his back.
Personality: Oliver is an unusual fellow. He respects everyone who does the same for him, and he follows most social standards. However, he is a thief- a kleptomaniac, at that. He'll steal anything that he has the opportunity to steal, even if he has no need for it. It's not a mental disorder, but more of a personal creed- if you can't protect your belongings, you can't have them. Well, that and he likes to sell the stuff for money... and then steal it back. Due to this, he's got a lot of money to use at his disposal.
Oliver prefers to stay away from violence; he hates getting hurt, so why should anyone else like it? Because of this, aggressive break-ins, kidnapping, and the like are not his personal favorites. However, that isn't to say he won't hurt or kill someone, business is business after all. He's not one to hold grudges unless someone did something bad to him for no reason. In these cases, he’s a big fan of revenge.
Original World: Ivalice Current World: Radiant Garden
History: Oliver was born in Rabanastre to Judge Magister Kithrosen and his wife, a sickly woman who died during childbirth. As a child, Oliver rarely saw his father and was raised by hired help. He never really formed a personal attachment to anyone until one day while he was wandering the marketplace with his Judge guards when one of the “street urchins,” as the Judges around him referred to them, kicked a ball toward him accidentally. The Judge prepared to punish the kid, but Oliver stopped him and asked the kid if he could play with them. They allowed him to, and several hours later, he treated them all to a full meal. Once his father got word of this, he forbade Oliver to consort with “such riffraff” and limited him to their expansive mansion in Rabanastre.
Oliver was angry at his father for two reasons. First, he had a lot of fun with those children, so why couldn’t he play with them. Second, who was his father to tell him what to do when he was hardly even around for him? From that day forth, he snuck out whenever he could get away with it to play with his new friends and then treat them to a big meal. He didn’t understand back then the idea of being poor, so he laughed when the gobbled down the food like there was no tomorrow.
Over the years as Oliver grew wiser, he realized what his new friends were really doing: playing with him for a while and getting good food, then leaving. He felt that they were using him for his wealth, so he did an experiment- for several days, he didn’t buy them food after. He just left. As time wore on, he noticed that they were acting less friendly toward him and eventually stopped hanging out with him altogether. Worried that he was going to lose his only “friends,” he hurriedly bought numerous gifts to make up for lost time. Upon learning what happened, his father was furious and locked him within their home under close guard. He’d learned how to pick locks from one of the orphans, so he snuck out while guards were switching to be with his friends. He escaped to the streets and convinced his friends to help hide him, though they demanded payment. With no options, he said that his father wouldn’t allow him any more money. So, they taught him to steal.
He did go home eventually, but he couldn’t forget the thrill of taking what belonged to others. The more he stole, the more he loved it, even to where he’d steal things even when he didn’t need to. He became one of the most skilled of the orphan children even if he had a massive amount of money to use as he wished. When he was a young adult his father gave up on him, officially disowning him and forcing him out of his house. In this time, he went by his maternal surname rather than his inherited title, introducing himself as “Oliver Alroth.” He traveled to Bujherba, where his thievery-related exploits got him into the Ivalice Thieves’ Guild, where he learned several different kinds of Magick related to his trade.
Eventually, after the exploits of an orphan he’d never met, Vaan, his friend Penelo, two Sky Pirates, Basch fon Ronsenberg and Lady Ashe of Dalmasca, he found out that his father had been killed in the battle of the rebellion. Though he didn’t feel particularly bad about the loss of his father, he was very interested in the inheritor of the estate, so he found his way back to Rabanastre to learn what his father’s will contained. Sadly, before he could find out, Ivalice was overtaken by the Darkness, and Oliver woke up on another world, Traverse Town.
He learned of the plight of the Heartless and instantly didn’t really care that much. He found his way to Radiant Garden, where he makes his way as a thief until he can decide what to do with his new lease on life.
Role Playing Sample: Oliver hopped onto the crate beside the building, and from there to the barrel and then the double-stack of barrels beside it. He cast a glance across the alley and decided it’d be a bit of a stretch, but he might be able to catch the roof of the other side. He squatted on the edge and then shot himself at the edge of the roof across the alley. His arms were outstretched and his hands ready to get a tight grip.
He might have made it, too, had it not been for an unexpected visitor. “What are you doing, Kupo?” The question caught him off guard and caused him to lose focus, slamming into the opposite wall with his head turned toward the source and feeling the painful impact of the brick against his temple. He slowly gathered himself up from the floor and turned to look at the cause of his misfortune.
“You… Aren’t a Moogle. What are you?” he asked. It may have sounded rude in some cases, but where he came from, only Moogles said ‘Kupo’and they had fur and large ears and looked like actual creatures instead of a child’s plaything. This was shorter than he was used to, completely bare and had little to no ear… and the eyes were very strange. It did have the characteristic pompom, and the bat wings, so perhaps it was some kind of subspecies?
“I am a Moogle, thank you very much, Kupo. Why are you trying to get on the roof, Kupo?” the Moogle asked.
“Well, you see, this is my shop, and I wanted to try to fix the shutters up there. You can’t really notice from here, but a few of them are cracked. I wanted to assess the damage before worrying about bringing tools. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, you know?” Oliver lied with a fair amount of conviction. Even the Moogle had to admit that he might have believed it, had it not been for one thing.
“Actually, this is my shop, Kupo, but that was a good try. Now please leave, Kupo,” the Moogle said with surprising politeness. Oliver just shrugged and walked past the Moogle. He might have stolen from the creature if it had been carrying something. Also, it was too short to efficiently pickpocket, and besides, he always liked Moogles. He’d met dozens of Bangaa and Seeq, as well as at least a hundred Humes, who were disrespectful, but not once in his travels through Ivalice did he find a Moogle that wasn’t willing to be helpful and friendly.
Oliver headed off in the night to find another target. Well, he thought it was night… kind of hard to tell in a world of eternal night.
Questions/Comments/Suggestions? Just wanted to say that this RP sample wasn’t the best I can do; I’ve had a long week and I’m tired. When I get into the actual RPing you’ll see that I can do much better. For now, I hope this will suffice.
