In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Hey everyone! So, quite a few of you know about this by now, but my ultimate goal for Kuja is to have him start up a "secret" library in the Second District of Traverse Town - which will happen as soon as the thread he has with Bluebird's Zephyr is done. But before then, I think it'd be cool to just explain/ask permission/get some ideas/whatever.
So, the idea behind this library is that there will be a vast collection of texts that is available to the general populace of Traverse Town. Originally, he was just going to offer scripts and sheet music, but I think there's a wider variety of the sorts of things I can include if I allow essays, books, novels, etc. Anyone can come into the library and read, but if they want to take and books or whatever home with them, they'll have to pay for a library card (which will probably take the form of a spell that has a symbol appear on one's arm that is invisible except for when your book is due back, haha. freaking kuja and his dramatics man). The way that can be done RP-wise is something I'm still setting up, and will be clear once I start the thread in the next few months.
However, one of the main reasons I'm setting this up is... QUESTING! After all, even a man of Kuja's considerable disposition (effing lol) cannot possibly hope to have all this literature on his person right away. And what with the Moogle crystals - most of the Moogles are from FFIX and recognize Kuja as a violent sociopath, and won't let him use the crystals (just ask Cadey). So, he needs to send people out to do his bidding and collect books. How that will work is that there will be two/three quests going on at a time where there's a rumor like "This book is apparently one of grave religious importance to certain cultures, and has been rumored to be floating around somewhere in Wonderland. It would be a great providence if one could go off and procure this magnificent text for me. Compensation to be discussed." And then I would set up a plot thread in Wonderland/wherever and dictate some of the actions of the mini quest, culminating in a short boss fight and receiving the book.
That's what I'm partly asking permission for - if, (should the library idea be accepted) I would be allowed to create these short quest threads and act as Heartless/NPCs within those threads and be a plot dude. I feel like it'd be a really neat idea, because it'd get people that don't have much to do besides "explore the worlds!!" out and doing something. They'd probably level up and get munny so yeah. It'd be a good way to get some stagnant characters back on their feet again. And the quests hopefully wouldn't drag on for a long time. (Also, the quests wouldn't just be "one character per quest;" they could be anywhere from one to three characters.)
With that, there's also the question of the list of books/texts/what have you I should be including in this library, and that's why I thought people could use this thread to brainstorm! Like, you know how in video games and such there are sometimes bookcases you can interact with and they'll say the title and a short excerpt/synopsis of the book? Basically anywhere in the RPG world and beyond that one can find literature can potentially be included in this library. And my thought is the texts don't just have to be from Final Fantasy/Disney/Kingdom Hearts either; as long as the texts have no impact on the plot (except for the "needing to be found" part), I don't see why I can't include a whole range of books from various stories. I've already started making a list!
Maria and Draco - the opera from FFVI
LOVELESS - both the poem and the play from FFVII (there are probably thousands of copies on that world, let's be real)
I Want To Be Your Canary - Lord Avon's play from FFIX
sheet music to Hymn of the Fayth - FFX
Germonik Scriptures - FFTactics
A series of compositions by a person (?) named "Sebastian" - The Little Mermaid
Holy Book of Granas - Grandia II
A Collection of Mau Tribe Song Lyrics - Grandia II
Journey to the Center of the Battlefield - a fairy tale for youngsters. Homestuck (see Seer: Descend)
Grimoire for Summoning the Zoologically Dubious - Homestuck (obviously nobody could actually learn how to summon anything from there, haha)
The Prince - Machiavelli (whoa!! Earth!!!)
The Divine Comedy - Dante Alighieri (whoa!! Earth again!!)
Odin Sphere (Seven Volumes) - Odin Sphere (not all of them need to be found. it would be interesting if there was only one or two of the seven books.)
so, thoughts and stuff are way appreciated, tell me what y'all think!
It'll give some side-quests for the characters and provide some extra lore. And since it's not too difficult to maintain, seeing as you could do it by adding an ever-growing checklist of books and the borrowers, or books and the questers.
And the quest rewards offer many possibilities; being refunded with spell books would be nice. For example, let's say we have a new character with almost no magical aptitude. Two points will reward them with the Fire spell, and double that will upgrade it to Fira, and so forth. (But to avoid a character taking advantage of knowing basic spells, if the character already has Fire they still need the six points to successfully upgrade it to Fira.) That's just an idea off the top of my head- another one could be single-use items, like Potions that heal 30% of your life.
And books don't have the be the only thing- if you want I'm sure you could fit many types of mediums into the library.
Hey, I like this idea a lot! It adds this layer of depth to the world. Worlds. It would be a cool way for characters to look for information or just interact and broaden their horizons, and there's so much that can be done.
It might be too complicated or exhausting, but could there be excerpts of (original?) writings to go along with it if there are any?
Syn - spell books would be excellent! I can get the logistics of that figured out once I set up the library.
Amelia - it's really cool that you see the cultural emphasis of opening this library. While it might not have a lot to do with actually RPing, I certainly hope opening this library allows characters to read and grow and develop ideas - much how human beings do. Anyways, yeah, I've already started compiling excerpts from the pieces, and intend to link the books in Kuja's collection to the excerpts so they're easily readable. It might take a bit of work, but I definitely think it's worth it.
Oh my god, love the idea. And one of the two of these, in my brain, must occur;
Setzer participating in that quest to obtain the VI opera, or Yuna helping to find the sheet music for Hymn of the Fayth. Then some musically talented character should help her learn to play it! I can definitely see her starting to dabble in music, and it means a lot to her to stumble upon cultural links to Spira.
It'd be fascinating to have characters peruse works from different worlds. I'm excited for this, Ren! xD
Oooh and please let me check out a copy of Loveless when it's found. Or if I get the quest, whichever. I have so many ideas via either my not-yet-made character or Ienzo when he gets ahold of that.
