ORIGINAL or CANON: Original
What was the inspiration for them / do they embody a particular feeling or emotion? This iteration of my beloved OC embodies a feeling of both regret and determination. She comes from a timeline where a dear friend of hers had passed on, and she has resolved to take on his mantle and do her best to honor his memory. She won't know what that means, but hopefully as her adventures progress she'll learn what it means to have a heart like his. Her fears and distrust of others will likely cause her to stray into sticky situations, but I have faith in her ability to find her own path.
To summarize, the emotions that Kaynine embodies are: Regret, determination, fear, and honor.
Name: Kristine Luker
Nickname: Kaynine
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Species: Mutos, Dog
Mutos are a subspecies of human in the world this character comes from. Mutos generally come in two categories: Flora (plant-like beings) and Fauna (animal-like beings). This subspecies is the result of centuries of mutations caused by unstable "magic" radiation. Generally mutos are regarded as equals in society, but are largely ignored.
Being Type: Somebody
Position: Chaotic Good
Current Primary Objective: Everybody's got a goal in life. What is most important for your character to achieve right now?
Learning type: Kinesthetic learner
Home World: Atro City, Hastor
Hastor is a dying planet covered mostly in yellow sand. Only a select few outposts have survived a planet wide catastrophe called the Nuclear Quake. Atro City is among the most developed and powerful of these outposts. It appears as a walled city surrounded by magic-canceling shields that protect the citizens within from the harsh conditions of the outside world. The city's leader, Charles Luker, has dedicated himself and his company to finding a way to reverse the devastating effects of the Nuclear Quake. His methods, unfortunately, are less than ethical.
Passive: Heartborn EchoWeapon: Appearance:Kaynine appears as a four foot tall girl of slender build and child-like frame. Her hair is cinnamon red in tone, and her skin is light copper. Her eyes are purple, one of four common hues for her race, and sport slit pupils that dilate or constrict depending on her mood. She has pointed ears that stick out roughly five inches from the sides of her head, and can be raised or lowered based on how she's feeling. Both her fingers and toes are tipped with blunt dog-like claws, the latter being clipped in order to accommodate a pair of dusty hiker's boots. She also wears a dusty brown bomber jacket, poofy pants that end just below the knees, an old orange aviator scarf, and a worn cabbie hat. Her most notable physical feature by far is the bushy brown tail that swishes behind her.
Personality: At first glance, Kaynine might come off as aloof or stand-offish. She has a strong distrust of strangers, and tends to avoid large crowds when she can. When forced to interact, she can often become sarcastic and curt, her words often covered in barbs. The less she trusts someone, the more it shows in her tone of voice. Beneath her rough outer shell, she is actually a very compassionate person, and cares deeply for anyone who she calls her friend. She becomes physically affectionate with people she trusts, and has been known to show this in almost the same way as most dogs. Many of her quirks are very doglike, a trait held by other dog mutos of her world. She can often be seen running on all fours, panting in hot climates, and barking when angered. Many of her behaviors show these traits and quirks, as well.
She is an incredibly kinetic creature, seeming to be in constant motion. This lends itself well to her lifestyle, as she comes from a city made up of buildings of varying sizes and shapes. One could say her favorite hobby is parkour!
Some questions to consider addressing:
- What are your character’s motivations/objectives/desires? Fears/weaknesses/concerns?
- What are their preferences, interests, quirks, hobbies, talents, secrets?
- What type of person is he/she? (Organized? Messy? Patient? Quick-tempered?)
- How does he/she work in a group, and/or react to hazardous situations or obstacles? (This will occur enough times with Heartless and Nobodies running amuck.)
Keep in mind the character’s history. Their background will be a major influence on who they are. If the Personality and History sections aren’t in sync, we may ask you to edit, depending on how the two work together.
This does not imply that if bad things have happened to your character they have to become a negative nancy! As an example: maybe they've lost just enough in life that their patience is wearing thin and has been replaced by a sharp sense of competition?
Natural Affinities/Abilities/Skills:- Heart of the Beast: Being a mutos gives Kaynine access to abilities shared with her natural counterpart, the dog. By accessing the heart of the beast, her physical strength, as well as her senses of smell and hearing, are enhanced beyond that or a normal human. Her sprinting speed is double that of typical humans, at the cost of a lower amount of stamina.
Like all fauna type mutos, Kaynine is a slave to her instincts. Each time she taps into the heart of the beast, she runs the risk of losing control and going berserk for a short period. Berserk mode decreases her defense/durability, and causes her to lose the ability to discern the difference between friend and foe. - Roar of Sand: Kaynine's heart is forever connected to her homeland, and as such she can call it's most powerful element to aid her in battle. When she lets out a powerful enough roar a small sandstorm materializes on the battlefield around her, pelting her enemies with stinging sand. This power comes with a major drawback: any friendly allies in the area will also be effected by this storm. This power lasts for five minutes.
- List item 3
This section is notorious for requiring the most modifications in order to be acceptable. It is a balance between bestowing your character with cool abilities and keeping said abilities reasonable.
A character may start with only 3 total abilities. These may vary on a case-by-case basis (someone applying for Sora might be able to unlock more), but don't expect to be the exception. If you are applying for a character that you really think needs more than 3 spells to start with, please contact a staff member.
Characters who are returning from the previous (One Sky) site may have their already-obtained spells grandfathered in, but still need to make edits where the character profile section has changed. (No need to repost for re-acceptance; if we accepted you already, we trust you.)
The character may only start out with proficiency over one element to begin with, and if you’re listing spells in your abilities, they must be pure elemental spells. For instance, if your character knows Fire magic they may create a wall of pure fire. They may not create a wall of poison-fire, electric fire, frost-fire or any other kind of fire.
Give this area thought! Many things must be taken into account. Skill level should be in a believable relation to the age of the character, training, upbringing, body build, ect. The nature of the powers themselves should make sense with the species of the character, and the world they hail from.
We do not allow over-powered characters without a good reason. (This applies to individual traits, too, such as strength and speed, as well as overall power.)
If you’re a human, most likely you cannot fly 100 miles per hour, control all darkness and shoot lasers from your eyes. That’s. . . just not possible.
You don’t just start out with Blizzaga at age 15. Sora had to go through the first 2-4 worlds before he even got Cure (Not Curaga, Cure.) The older your character becomes, and the better background you have, the higher level abilities you can have.
Give detailed descriptions of all of your characters powers, abilities, and skills. Limit breaks and magic from the KH or FF universe such as Fire and Holy could be accepted, but we're really looking to make sure you'll be able to play well with others.
Limitations/Drawbacks: Every good character has a flaw. Sometimes it’s physical, sometimes it’s mental. Sometimes it’s magical. If it’s all, hey, that’s good too!
What is the range of each spell? When can they use it and when can they not? How long does it take, how much of a post cooldown does it require, does performing the action cause mild dizziness/other vulnerability? Be creative with restrictions and consequences to counterbalance your powers. Even the oldest and wisest of characters will have a few. If you have OOC (Out of Character) limits (for example, post durations or ‘only usable twice per thread’ rules), you must also have IC (In Character) reasons (for example, the weapon of choice cannot shoot consecutively, or character will die of fatigue if he/she exerts too much energy).
The staff will be strict here, but please listen to their advice with good grace.
History: Make sure to cover key events in your character’s life. Describe relationships. Explain the events in your character’s life that have made them who they are.
At the very least, these questions must be indirectly answered at some point in the History:
- Where is your character from?
- What are some relationships your character has already experienced? With family, authorities, friends, mentors, pets, lovers, ect.
- How was your character educated in the skills you listed in the abilities section? They cannot be natural-born experts.
That which is frowned upon in a character's history:
- Canon Characters without the RPer's explicit permission.
- Unexplained Amnesia. If it's explained, fine. Just don't leave us guessing.
- Unexplained mysterious figures or voices with generous tendencies. You don't have the Organization XIII in your bedroom closet giving you magic swords.
- Manifestations of godly figures.
Role Playing Sample: Show us a sample of your Role-Playing using your character. Express your character to the best of your ability. This is your time to shine! Remember to:
- Write in paragraph style and
- Write in Third Person Past Tense. This means 'he went to the Clock Tower', not 'he goes to the Clock Tower'. The only time First Person should be used is if we're reading a journal entry or a thought. First Person is only acceptable in such a situation as: "Sora looked up to the stars. _I wonder what happened to the stars?_ He thought."
If you need more clarification on something, ask a staff member.
If stumped, here are some possible ideas for the sample. Feel free to use these, combine these, or do something completely different:
- Your character's Awakening.
- First post in Twilight Town
- An event in their life (depicting where they were during the destruction of their original world is a common one).
- A memory or a dream.
