In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Yes, I know double posts are bad, but this is a bump for everyone can see.
THT Refrain from posting in others PROFILES, while they're in the acceptance process. Seriously if everyone and their great-grandma posts in it...there would be no reason for staff.
When creating a character, it's a general rule that unless they're pretty old (I'd say at least 40), they won't have -aga level spells. Humans are not allowed to use the Corridors of Darkness to travel.
The rule that one's character can be in only 2 places at once is obsolete. It simply has not been deleted yet.
Err.... When roleplaying, type in past tense. Follow the rules of grammar as best you can, and people won't look at you like you're an idiot. Cheers.
Always think about your character's limitations when creating him/her. If they are a WORLD character, they are generally assigned to one World. In-game, we never saw Olette or Pence on Disney Castle. We must remember that most Worlds have no idea there are other Worlds out there.
Thus, be careful. You only have a limited amount of characters, and if you claim too many WORLD characters, you have stranded yourself.
I'd say more or less common sense about a character's current status. Some people (not here) are pretty careless about the implications of what's presently happening to a character and how that affects the plausibility of them traveling in the near future.
To elaborate, I'm going to build on the obsolete 'only-two-places-at-once' rule:
For the convenience of players, characters can be in several places at once; however, they probably shouldn't be if they're in the middle of an extremely defining scene.
Take for example the scene that I'm in right now with Leiss. I have restraint towards posting him in any other scenes because Seed intends on throwing him through a corridor of darkness. If he gets thrown in and ends up elsewhere, it would be impossible for him (for a while, anyway) to return to Twilight Town and reclaim his Gummi Ship, much less go anywhere else.
So even in the absence of this location rule, you still have to deal with the consequences of everything being somewhat chronological.

Even so I would say that people are responsible for their own chronicles of threads, which is what the Character Journals are for. I would simply say 'work with what's works for you', because I easily have a character all over the place, and end up linking how they fit chronologically later, and thus far I never had a problem with it.
Tips thus far:
Character's age and experience affects everything including their magic level knowledge.
Cyrus
In this rpg, we write in third person past tense, and horrible grammar can affect your rp experience
Cyrus
The rule of having only two locations per character has been nullified months ago, but was never editted in the rules.

Be mindful of your character's surrounding. For example, if you're playing an OC (original character) or World Character who lives on an existing KH world, they must abide by and obey the world's history including it's knowledge. For example of this tip being used correctly to it's fullest, Jonathan Daniël Brass
Synthest
Be mindful of your choice of character selection. For example, choosing world characters who corresponds with the worlds present on the boards are BOUND to their world.
Synthest
You are responsible for keep up with your own characters movement and chronicles of threads and the consequences that goes along with their personal storyline. For example, if you're character is currently stuck in the realm of darkness, it would be hard to pull of logical future threads that would chronically go with what had already occured.
Hoff Man
yes yes, I did some paraphrasing just to add more to what I thought was already related to the tips proposed. Those who think it should be added say 'aye' opposing say 'nay'.
I'm pretty sure Original Characters are not allowed the powers of Darkness from the start. I'm not sure if it's different if you're character is actually evil though.
100% sure that normal humans cannot use Corridors of Darkness though.
Indeed, Original Characters are not allowed to manipulate Darkness in any form or way from the start, allignment not being an exception to this rule. The only exceptions to this rule would be Canons and Worlds who have been shown using the element on their respective films or games.
But, as far as I know, learning the magicks of darkness through roleplaying is allowed. My own character, Mikael, is living proof of this.
However, correct Shunny Shun if wrong, but I think normal humans -could- learn to use the Corridors of Darkness. Yes, it would slowly damage their hearts and sanity, but I think they could use them with the necessary teaching, guidance, training, love and care. <3

Actually Original Character can use darkness. I know some who had manipulation of their own darkness and even my own former OC Erika manipulated darkness through her pistol, which was her own.
Unless they have veen tainted by ze Dark XII da? i.e Maverick
Hot Tip by Seed: If you go through training with your character and they figure a new power or way to use that power. Get the okay of a mod to add it to your final profile. And if you do not have a specific power listed in the Powers or Abilities section of your profile do not use it.
Hot Tip by Seed: Utilize the Character Journal board the site has. It gives you a fun way to organize all the threads you have been in and which characters the person the journal is about has met. Plus, it allows others to see what you have been up to.

Oh. I've got one! 2+ pages of corrections in the Profiles section should not be acceptable. I understand that we must all start somewhere but I'll take it directly from the introduction on the site: " This RPG is for Intermediate to Advanced role players. Please only join if you are literate in role playing, or you're willing to learn." People who join the site should learn how to RP I believe by the second page. That gives about 45 posts of corrections. Fair enough?
Brief guide to being original with your original characters:
I'm doing all of this assuming you already have a character name in mind.
For one, BE ORIGINAL. Merely taking a character you've seen before and changing how they look or slightly altering their powers/history/etc but having the basic principles be the same (i.e. having your character be a summoner) is not only rather boring, but it also doesn't give people the chance to see a bit of your personality. It's also probably not a good idea to have any cliche races, unless, of course, you intend to take it into a new direction of some sort (really hard to think of any examples here, as I just avoid race issues).
When creating an original character, I tend to start with the basics - how the character looks. When doing this, I tend to actually look on photobucket for my general idea. When you are putting up the details of their appearance, even the little things matter. Is Donald Trump's suit slightly dusty? How does his fake hair move in the wind? Does his cloak serve a purpose? Try to put some effort into describing him so people can imagine what he looks like. In addition, some recommendations I, personally, would make are to vary your word-choice. If you describe everything as 'baby blue' without changing coloration, it will get boring. Try to add flair to your language, since you are, after all, putting on a show
After describing your creation as meticulously and eloquently as possible, I would move on to the personality. Try to give some true emotion to the being you are creating, include some of your own personal twitches, even. This is where your character TRULY comes to life. Include what makes him/her/it angry/sad/happy, what some pet peeves are, how they might react in certain situations, their innate behaviors, some habits they have, and similar things. With a bland personality, your character will be uninteresting, so put as much effort into this as you probably do working on your powers and history (if not more effort).
After doing that, I work on the powers. The powers aren't as important as people seem to think what with all the effort they put into them (sarcasm at those that don't and have underdescribed powers and honesty at those that do and a ^5 for those that don't but have awesome powers anyway). Powers are really only somewhat important. When coming up with your powers, think about what purpose they are truly intended to serve For example, why are you giving your character a technique for every occasion? Powers are, at most, a supplement to your character, something to keep them alive in difficult times. A character really doesn't need to have more than one or two actual powers, in my opinion. The true value is how you make those powers work, so you shouldn't give a power for every situation. If you have only one power (say... control over wind), it forces you to come up with new ways to use that power. In essence, limit your character's powers, as it will actually expand your own thinking and ingenuity. Try to keep yourself to a maximum of two powers if broad. (for example, a generic control over wind is really broad, so it is probably best to only have that power) If you have a highly specific power, then having a few more isn't really a problem, but try to keep yourself in check. (for example, having the ability to summon a single robin if it is within five feet and you have it within your line of sight is a rather specific power)
And then the history. The history should be in depth and give a feel of the past of your character. It's almost certainly not a good idea to have large gaps in your history (for example, skipping from them being five years of age to twenty two... there's 17 years of their life not covered). That said, you should avoid detailing every year of their life. Skip with moderation. Skipping ages where there are no new events is okay, but, if you find your character has no new events for large spans of time, you should probably go a bit more in depth as to what generally happens in what you do describe. The reason we skip years is to avoid redundancy and having a dull history. If there is an alteration, it is almost cretainly a good idea to mention it. Also, it is best to skip by doing something like 'Bob Dillan practiced his acting for the next five years, finding himself gradually improving' where you mention it but don't go into the full details you've already covered. The history is where you give the background of your character. Show how they progress through their life, point out certain events, even go into the thoughts of your character during these events and their perception of what happened. Don't just take an entirely objective viewpoint here.

Commenting::
@ Seed: I'm going 'eeeh' with the tainting thing. Why? You self interpreted that he would be able to use the CoD instead of hardcore in stone IC indication by the taintee if he does or doesn't. That's one problem that occurs in rping, when people aren't 100% the wing it on their own interpretation instead of mutual agreement.
Also the thing I would say for the 1st tip. I would say just resubmit the profile. There are enough characters with questionable abilities that could've been avoided if they were just resubmitted...like an updated profile that can have a little history snippet with the abilities on how they learned it, exposed to it, etc.
As for tip 2, great one. I think it would be easier to actually link the Journals in the signature for a.) people won't have to scroll and click so much just to find it b.) it can lesson the ordeal of using up the word limit on your siggy.
ie. On mine I seperate all of my characters between two journal links that have all of their profile links in them, so its easier navigation. Hey you have it on yours tooo.
Others feel free to comment, since this is meant to be by members for members. Give us thy opinion. @ Sage: I don't find it our place to dictate on 'how long it takes someone to get a profile fixed'. An Instructor job is to aid by ironining the character out and fixing the kinks not being judgmental and rushing. Seriously if the world was like this a bunch of teachers would've said 'to hell with you all' to does who took a long time to catch up with everyone else. And if we can't handle giving someone extra TLC in a mere rpg board, then good luck with life to you unless you will be burning every bridge that doesn't runs to your aboslute liking.
So in short, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Also this could've been easily avoided by how one conduct the entire thing. You can critique piece by piece (which takes longer since there's a 3 day limit for every little thing, then there may be something wrong within the little thing, so a member may be spending more days on one snipet than the entire profile) or state all the flaws at once and give them a longer time.
In short, I don't see this as an appropiate motivating tip, but a pressuring and intimidating. People are here to merely enjoy themselves not second guessing about minor things like 'omg I hope I get this stuff right by the second paaaaage'.

@ Rayfrost
O-O jeebus it's loooong. *reads* Only thing I would say is that I wonder if this could be simplified since it will be added to another thread the FAQ + Top Hot Tips.
I would say what's misleading is 'cliche races'. I don't think they are any cliche races, since cliche is generally attached to expressions and concepts. Are there TRENDS of races? Heck yes, but I would leave that decision to the rper of whichever race they want their character to be.
I think what you're trying to say on that one is cliche concepts such as: the basic yuna summoner, the basic riku character, the basic kairi damsel in distress. I would say avoid ripping off of canon characters versus races. Also avoid making Mary-Sues, which I shall post the TEST for it! The Original Fiction Mary Sue Test.
Also I find it misleading to put as much effort in personality than you would with abilities and history. Personally I see that history --> (yields) personality. If you have a weak personality set-up, then you most likely have a weak-history; they build on top of each other, so I would say that you should be just as critical with history, since it made the character who he/she is.
Kuddos on the ability section. The only thing I would find a bit helpful to add is 'give your character some sort of flaw'. Lately, I've been asking every rper to give their character so limitation or fatigue, since a.) no one perfect, gives some sense of realism b.) to give some concrete limitation versus interpretational limitation, which avoids god modding. c.) it can leave room for character growth and so on.
Overall, goody goody gumdrops.
Lovely members feel free to chatter about this, since it's to help future and current members. COMMENCE!!
