In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

once an alluring building located in the world between worlds. It now stood dull and stale in the grim back light. Abandoned and deserted for a long time. The castle's power diminished to nearly nothing. The normally white walls were a dark grey of inactivity. A slumbering fortress.
It was at the entrance hall, at the ground level that finally a corridor of darkness opened. Standing in the middle of the room like a big gaping hole through time and space. The ominously revolting darkness swirling but contained by a strong frame of dark energy. From this black pool, a figure in the robe of the Organization XIII emerged. The hooded figure halted and carefully looked around. Keeping the corridor open in case he needed a swift escape. His head swayed from left to right as he assured himself that there was no other.
After a couple of silent moments, the corridor behind the man collapsed and dissolved into nothing. Leaving it's traveler alone in the grey hall. The cloaked figure then Finlay brought his hands to the side of his cap and pulled it back. Revealing his long platinum colored hair and smooth face with narrow beady green eyes. Vexen, the Chilly Academic, has arrived at castle oblivion.
Looking around again, lifting up his chin. Mesmerizing words started to flow from his lips. First softly and quietly. But continuously louder. "Oh, Caste Oblivion. How we have neglected you. Forgive us, it was beyond our own will. But I have returned, and you shall never have to suffer such loneliness again. Castle Oblivion... AWAKEN!"
An aura of dark energy erupted around Vexen as it began to swirl around him like a whirlwind. He tilted his head back and stretched his arms out to the side. The power build up while it lifted his body from the ground. Slowly raising until the Nobody was hovering in the middle of the room. The walls, floor and ceiling began to shudder and tremble. As the strength of the castle was called upon. Resurrected from it's coma. Until finally a powerful explosion spreads throughout all the levels and the rooms. The shock wave changed the grey walls into their prestigious white. The closed flower pedestals bloomed open. As the castle transformed into it's former active state.
The explosion didn't do any type of damage, but instantly redyed the entire castle. The walls were brimming with energy again. The lights were back on, shining beckons through the windows to all those outside that could see. Vexen softly landed on his feet again and lowered his arms. Breathing heavier now and showing more signs of just delivering a tiring feat. Slowly and with difficulty. The number 4 stumbled towards the door that leaded to the upper levels. Finding a place to rest before continuing with his plans.
Only a handful of minutes after the Castle's brilliant awakening, Assassins dragged Hermes through the open portal on the other side of the Betwixt and Between. The shadowy, twisting gate exited to a colorless basement. Despite the Castle's gargantuan size, the walls somehow remained illuminated, this evident only by the whiter spots on the bleak, gray walls.
On the Castle's lowest floors, where the eeriest of people might loom, the redheaded Nobody found a simple relief. It was likely the manifest satisfaction of a job well done, and the small breath of fresh air just over the horizon, which he was counting on the large unconscious fleabag to bring the Organization. Just think of the power that an army of these things could bring us! Axel's smile broadened.
His adherents finished dragging Hermes into his respective cell, and it took the might of all of the lesser Nobodies working together to slide the door shut. One of them used one of its feather-like arms to slither into the blocky contraption on the door and click it into the locked position. And ss soon as their work was finished, the lot promptly slithered back into the ground, leaving in the same silvery pools from whence they came.
Number Eight stepped closer to the confining bars, eyeing the limp beast laying stomach-down within. One leather-clad hand found its way around a cold, dark bar close by. His eyes were gorging themselves on the prize at hand, thoughts bubbling with a twisted lust for power. The bigger the Heart, the bigger the Nobody. He could only hope that the depth of the beast's Heart had matched its size. A cool, collected tone comfortably flowed into the immediate atmosphere, that same passion that had ignited his smirk was evident in his voice now. "The Organization struck gold with you, beastie. Thanks to none other than yours truly." His own thumb jabbed pridefully at his chest.
One last glance cast to his new catch, and a spark of hope ignited his outlined burning green eyes. Maybe this Beast would bring them closer to their Hearts than he had first anticipated. When he looked at the dormant creature, all he could see was a breath of hope. That was, if Nobodies could still feel at all. . .
Time for the next step - finding Vexen. He began to stroll down the empty hall. Rumor in the Organization was that Vexen had taken up a temporary residence here to continue his research. It was highly likely he was still here. But, in a castle of such a grandiose size, the last question would boil down to Number Four's exact physical location. Now where could that creepy blonde by hiding. . .?
((Fixed. Sorry about that. I should try and do less than work and have 3 conversations while writing. xD Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!))
While treading to a secure resting place, the Chilly Academic then halted and stood still. Raising his head and looking back over his shoulder with narrow eyes. He remained so for a while, listening to the silence. As if he could hear something, a noise that wasn't present in the room he was in, but elsewhere in the castle. His eyes narrowed as a displeased expression appeared on his face. Already there was trouble in the bleak halls that he must attend to.
With a single thought, small corridors of darkness opened up around the Organization's number IV as an escort of 4 Dusks appeared. Twitching on their spot but remaining in place. Watching out toward the direction they were going, looking for incoming danger. When being alone in this castle, one can't be to careful. Surrounded by the lesser Nobodies, Vexen then righted himself as he caught his second wind. Marching out of the door that leads toward the lower levels. Descending down the staircases until the ruckus of a large beast, the swarming of many Dusks and the irritating but familiar presence of a fellow member could be sensed.
With hastened and stronger step, Vexen then bursts through the door to the cellars that holds the cages and stormed in with his Nobody guards. Spotting the fiery redheaded immediately. There his blazing hair stood in strong contrast with the pastel tints that made up the rooms. Whipping up his head a bit and pulling up his nose, the Chilly Academic gnarled with cold eyes and a cackling voice: "Axel! What is the meaning of this? What is this disturbance?"
But his anger immediately traded places with interest as he caught sight of the large creature currently imprisoned from the corner of his eye. Turning from the number VIII, Vexen walked till right up the bars and stared at Hermes intensely and calculating. Slipping away in thought as he paid no more head to the presence of Axel.
(I don't mean to nag, but Era made a typo in the post. The Aeon's name is Hermes, not Artemis. And for now, I will RP as Hermes.)
Hermes awoke with a splitting pain in his head. He lifted his feathery body, standing hunched over. As he opened his eyes, he took in white walls and heavy bars. A loud roar escaped his throat as he charged at the bars, not even shaking them with his impact. He let out what would be a sigh for him and collapsed, exhaustion winning over him. But what these beings didn't realize was that he was more human than beast, and he could think as well as any of them.
"It was the red haired one..." he thought, remembering what had happened in Olympus. "He hurt Artemis and captured me! And I couldn't protect Artemis! I have failed him!" Rage built up inside the Aeon as his eyes glowed. He raised his head and fired an Energy Ray at the door, but didn't manage to do anything but leave a small black line of char on the door. He crashed down again, thinking,
Ah. Finding him was easier than expected. Looks like luck's on my side again! The Nobody could do little more than mount his timid, signature smirk. Leather-clad hands found their familiar perch upon his hips, and confidence filled his chest. He planned to soak up the image of Vexan's lustful interest with as much pride as possible.
He allowed the Chilly Academic to absorb the Beast in all its glory for a few more minutes, then picked up the important agenda for which he came. "So I found this beastie out in Olympus, and I figured you'd like to experiment with him. He's got a strong Heart, which undoubtedly means strong Nobodies. And just think... You could take all the glory for extracting a new strand," Number Eight's smile widened as he finished his bait.
Now was the question - would the Academic accept it?
Vexen's attention was locked onto the Aeon that Axel managed to capture. He stood there staring through the bars at the withered beast. Analyzing it with his keen senses and understanding that made him a brilliant scientist. Unfortunately, Axel had to disturb his study with being his annoying arrogant self. What brought him to the core of the matter indeed. Rolling his eyes to the corner, Vexen listened to his words. But otherwise gave no reaction. One to many details in his explanation were causing alarm bell to ring in his head. Turning Vexen to be cautious about the situation.
With his cold high voice, the Chilly Academic spoke: "Olympus you say... strange, for such a creature does not exist there... No, it must origin from another world. " Then Vexen turned his head around and looked at Axel with cold icy look. While he continued on a more irritated tone: "Creating new Nobodies? Such a mundane and simple task is far beneath my intelligence and brilliance. Why even you could do that." Vexen faced Hermes again. Seeing it sulk on the floor, tired and weak. Having trouble to even keep it's massive wings upright. A devilish smile appeared on the number IV's face as he said wanting: "No, I have something far greater planned for this subject. It will probably be destroyed in the process but the data would be more then worth it.... which brings me to my final point."
Vexen stretched out one of his hands, and the temperature inside the holding cell started to decline. Getting colder and colder till below freezing temperature. This to make sure the large birdlike creature could not recover or regain it's strenght. It wouldn't hurt it, only keep it weak and managable. Vexen then turned around completely toward Axel and crossed his arms in front of his chest. While giving the redheaded Nobody a suspicious glare: "You are giving me this powerful creature just like that, without even asking anything in return or longing for the credit. ... What's the catch, assassin? What are you scheming up this time?"
As Hermes laid on the ground, he felt the temperature drop rapidly. He had a feeling that the blonde one caused it, probably to keep him immobile for the moment. But Hermes wouldn't be that easily beat. Besides, he had faced nearly absolute zero temperatures when Artemis had summoned him to fight Aphrodite. He managed to stand, though that was all he could do physically. His large body raced with shallow breaths and his vision blurred, but he managed to stay up, willpower taking over.
I WILL not be bested by you!
Artemis, Olympus
[/i]
As Artemis awoke from his injury, the first thought that entered his mind was where the redhead who had gotten Hermes went. Holding his still-spinning head, he saw a large portal that looked big enough for Hermes to go through. He stumbled through it, emerging in a large area that just seemed...weird.
Vexen had just opened up the door for the Flurry to lay out exactly what he intended to get out of this trade; he couldn't have planned this better! Now then, time to lay out the ground rules for this:
"Firstly, I already promised his owner that this beastie would be returned in one piece; killing him is out of the question." And Axel would make sure that the beast, once the Organization was through with him, would be returned as promised... the Redhead was careful to follow through with his word. What other grounds did they have to cover yet? Oh right - the reason he'd brought the Aeon here. As he meandered closer to Number IV, he began to expose his motives.
"And secondly, I brought him here because while even I can make a Nobody of him," he tapped his peach-colored temple. "I lack the brainy know-how to turn that Nobody into an army. To simplify: I brought him here so that the Organization would be able to bolster their Heartless-fighting ranks. After all, I hear another scramble with the Dark Twelve looms on the horizon. We'll want to be ready for that. 'Cause in the end, just like you,"
The lithe Nobody leaned in toward his blonde counterpart. One black-gloved finger prodded Vexen's chest. "...I want my Heart back." The redhead pulled his finger away again, drawing his hand into a fist. He deserved his Heart... And he'd stop at nothing to get it back. Just like all the other Nobodies that made up their Organization.
Vexen's eyes narrowed as his face turned to a displeased expression. The Chilly Academic did not like the manner in which Axel was addressing him, nor his familiarity. Responding to his desire for his heart with a harsh cold voice, Vexen said: "Then you would do better in remembering your place." The number IV stared down at Axel with a murderous intent before turning around again to observe the cage.
Vexen's anger subsided quickly as he noticed how the large avian creature was forcing itself to stand up, even with the current temperature to be below freezing point at the moment. The edges of Vexen's lips curled up in a wicked smile. The creature was standing up sheer on willpower alone, proving how resilient and powerful it was. Axel had truly outdone himself in acquiring this magnificent specimen. The more Hermes resisted, the more pleased Vexen became.
While still staring at the cage, Vexen spoke out loud to Axel: "You should not make promises you can't keep in the future. This being now falls under my decisions and that is final. It is true that I have been contemplating in adding useful types of Nobodies to our ranks. Testing will be required to see if this specimen is compatible. Will you leave me to it or are you inclining in joining this fase, Axel?"
Although Vexen would never admit it, the Flurry of Dancing Flames would be useful. The Chilly Academic had many other experiments and projects running, making it difficult to focus his sole attention on the Aeon. The blond Nobody kept looking at Hermes, timing how long it could endure the cold and the strain of standing upright.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the castle...
Artemis found himself standing right outside of the ominous Castle Oblivion. Seeing how the structure was standing on a broken piece of rock floating in the limbo of the betwixt and between. In front of them the large entry doors that leaded inside. Passed these doors, Artemis would end up in a long thing hallway with white walls, floor and ceiling. It had an unreasonable feeling of sterility and silence unlike any other world. There was only one door leading out, a large white one standing on a small elevation, the door however would not yield to any amount of force used upon it. Artemis was locked in the lobby that connects the many levels of the Castle. In the center of the room, sprouting from the floor was a white statue resembling a closed flower. It was glowing very faintly with a strange unknown power. Only Axel's portal outside that he left carelessly open remained as an escape route back to Olympus City. But who knows how long it will last.
As Artemi approached the strange floating castle, he felt a sense of...something emanating from the castle. Is it Hermes? he thought as he pushed the door open, entering the castle.
White. All Artemis could see was white. The door was shut behind him as he looked around the hallway, looking around. Utter silence reigned, except for his light footsteps on the floor. He took a quick look at the flower, which seemed out of place, then went to the door, trying to open it unsuccesfully.
"Hello? Anybody there?"
Xaldin
[/i]
A dark portal appeared close to the Flurry and the Academic. Xaldin stpped out of it, his arms crossed as usual. "Vexen, Axel. I hear you have acquired a new test subject. What do you intend to do to it?" In reality, Xaldin had sensed the power of the battle in Olympus and had sent a team of Dragoons to investigate. With a glance at the cage where the beast was held, he waited for an answer.
"Nice of you to drop in, Xaldin!" There was no sarcasm intended in that comment. Xaldin was one of the few members in the Organization that Axel got along with. And thus, a warm welcome would come to the Lancer who'd dropped in on their parade.
Those jade green eyes shifted over to Academic, a calm but sharp expression on that pale, diamond face. "We were just discussing my conditions, actually," the remark was meant to give Vexen an opportunity to speak. Sure, the Redhead had guidelines he wouldn't back down from, but he needed to find out if Number Four was ready buy into those conditions.
Vexen only slightly cocked his head over to the dark portal as the Whirlwind Lancer appeared as well. Not welcoming nor rejecting the arrival. It could only be anticipated that a creature of such powerful magnitude would arouse the interest of the fellow members of the Organization.
Hearing the remark from Axel, it confirmed Vexen's earlier suspicion. With a cold glare he looked at the number VIII, catching him red handed as he stated: "So there is a catch to your offer. You have done well in acquiring this beast, but don't push your luck. And remember your place."
Turning his head back to the captured Hermes, Vexen then answered Xaldin's question. "I have not yet gathered enough data to make a definite decision. I must study it more first. And with the power of this castle, I shall learn all it's secrets."
During the last sentence, Vexen spread out his arms while tilting his head back. The long sleeves of his gown like organization robes draped his ominous figure. While the castle walls itself began to course with energy. Summoned by Vexen. The castle started to reach into the heart of Hermes. Pulling out it's memories. This without causing anything noticeable inside the creature. The Chilly Academic, stretched out his hand. Holding it aimed toward the Aeon as he called upon the memories in his hand. Channeling the castle's mysterious power before him. As two cards materialized between his fingers.
When the ritual was over, the fleeting energy died down again. It had taken the Organization a long time to use this power for their own goals and advantage. Now it was paying off. The beady green eyes looked closely at the two cards. One was a familiar one. A card of Olympus, the place where Axel had apprehended the creature. It was only normal for it to appear, for they were the most recent memories. But the other card was one of far greater interest. It was a card that showed an unknown world. Spira it was called.
The Olympus card Vexen laid down on a nearby table. It was of no use to him so it became discarded. But the other card would allow Vexen to wander inside a world consisting of the creature's memories. Here he could discover it's origin, it's homeworld.
When Vexen was ready, he threw the card to the door at the staircase. Using it on the castle. The card flew magically until it placed itself on the center of the blank door. Then it shined and started to grow. Expanding itself as it transformed the door into a door that lead to the world of Spira. The entire floor above them started to change. Each room becoming an important location.
When all this had transpired, Vexen turned again to Xaldin and Axel to make his intentions clear: "I will study this creature's memories of this world. Wandering through the rooms alongside the living memories that have shaped to determine it's true potential. Only after that I can decide the correct coarse of action to take."
The redhead watched the scene unfold before his eyes. It was nothing particularly new, but watching such magic things dance into existence was always an amusement of sorts. Number Eight took a careful note of the Academic's desire to delve right into the work.
His famous pose of placing those gloved hands on his hips was once again being displayed in all his lithe glory, the Redhead decided to take his leave. "As long as your 'correct course' involves keeping the Beast alive, I could care less," that was the catch, and it was one it didn't seem he would let go of.
With a snap of his arrogant fingers, he allowed a dark portal to swallow him up. Axel knew that even the most advanced science sometimes involved a gamble, but he couldn't allow this borrowed creature to die. After all, he was only borrowed. He'd made a mental promise to return the Aeon safe and sound after the Organization was done... And he was more than slightly afraid it was a promise he would be unable able to keep.
Xaldin nodded as Vexen gave his intent to studt this new world. "That is a good diea, Vexen. But I feel that you may need an assistant in your quest. Especially with your intruder that recently arrived in the castle." As Vexen had been creating the cards, A Dragoon had reported the intruder to him, and had confirmed him as the one in Olympus. Xaldin smiled as he said to Vexen, "I will tend to our guest, Vexen. You do your research, and I will return to the castle. But, I hope that you will be able to deal with him yourself. One who controls this kind of power is a danger to us all." A flurry of black and silver surrounded him as he opened a portal to the floor the intruder was on.
Artemis
"Why won't anybody answer me! Hello!?"
The echoes rang throughout the floor as Artemis kept trying to push the door open. Then, with a sigh, he collapsed, giving up.
"Why do you give up so quick? Would you rather just leave?"
A deep voice emanated from behind Artemis. Jumping up, he turned to see a hooded man in...
a black robe.
"Where's Hermes?" he asked, his bow in his hand. The hooded figre chuckled, then held out a small object between two fingers. "Using this card, go through the world inside it. Each floor of this castle will correspond to this card, using your emmories to create the worlds inside. Maybe, just maybe, you can find Hermes and save him." As the figure threw the card, he disappeared in a flurry of black and silver. Artemis stood for a second, then looked at the card.
"What? This is...Spira?"
He walked up to the door, holding the card up to it. Finally, the door opened, and Artemis walked through...

An evening sky of deep orange stretched above his head. Long strands of clouds bathing in the sun's dying ray's passed overhead. Driven by the desolate wind that was the only disturbance to the silence. In the golden beams of the low hanging sun, crumbling structures could be made out. Tall towers long fallen or leaning away. Broken elevated roads and debris. Whithered away by the sands of time. Deserted, empty and hollow. Something that not even the warm colors of the sunset could alter.
Taking in this sight of the ruïns of Zanarkand, was Vexen in the black robes of the organization. His hood was up, his face hidden. Staring from the dark opening it took in this surroundings. This room had transformed into these ruïns. For they were the most recent, the most strongest memories of the Aeon Hermes. Vexen glanced at this scenery, seeing the destruction that happened thousands of years ago. Immediately realizing that a great power and force had to be responsible. A force that normal men could not counter. There was so much here, hidden in the nuances of the destruction. Each carved stone, each crumbling rock was a testimony to the power responsible.
It only took a simple observation and an understanding of the powers of the cards to learn the name of this place. Zanarkand. Vexen felt delighted by the treasury of information he was receiving. This world that they had not yet visited could perhaps be well worth it. The Chilly Academic leaned back his head a bit, while stretching out his hands. As he said out loud: "Spira... tell me your story."
