Name: Vayne DeBuio
Nickname(s): V, Vanity
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Position: Good
Theme Song: Come Little ChildrenPowers:Vayne has a basic learning of Black and White Magic from his Uncle Desmond. As such he can cast:
Black Magic
Fire (Cooldown: 2 post)
Blizzard (Cooldown: 2 post)
Thunder (Cooldown: 2 post)White Magic
Aero (KH1 variant)(Duration: 1 post)(Cooldown: 2 post)
Poisona
Light (Cooldown: 4 posts)(Invokes Universal Cooldown)
Light Blade: (Branched from Light) Creates a blade of focused light that is released from glaive blade. (Cooldown: 6 posts)(Invokes Universal Cooldown)He also carries around (well, he can put it into and take it out of the hammer-space, at any rate) a weapon known as a glaive (it's like a spear, but it has a blade at the end instead of a spearhead). This acts as both a weapon in and of itself and as his magic-casting staff.
Using Light Magic puts a bit of a strain on Vayne, and he cannot use it in some of the Worlds that are too close to the Realm of Darkness. Because he uses Light on a (shall we say) regular basis, he is more susceptible to the negative influences and side-effects of contact with/attacks by Darkness and Darkness-wielding entities (namely the Heartless and Dark XII).
Weapon: Glaive
Appearance: Vayne is a pale, but not chalky, and has black hair which comes down to his shoulders. His eyes are aqua colored, and he has a set of black cat ears (from a misfired magic spell that he was attempting). Vayne wears a light gray shirt under a blue vest with red stripes on the front. Over both of those he wears a black hoodie with black angel wings on the back (those are just for show; they don't allow him to fly or give him any special powers). He has black jeans with multiple belts tied through the loops (in a very contemporary and animesque way), which hug his figure slightly (but not inappropriately). He also wears black shoes (like a cross between tennis shoes and loafers). When lounging around one of the many rest areas set up throughout Worlds (like the hotels at Traverse Town), Vayne prefers a plain white tee shirt and black jeans with black tennis shoes. When out trying to earn munny through singing, he wears a songstress outfit.
Personality:Vayne is almost two different people depending on when you catch him. He fluctuates between bubbly and free-spirited to solemn and taciturn. This fluctation occurs because of his turbulent childhood and subsequent forced vacation of his homeworld. When he is around people he doesn't know very well, he puts on his cheerful face in order to keep morale high. However, when he's around people he feels comfortable with, he lets his cheerful guard down and shows his more insecure personality.
He is innocent to a fault, and so naive and trusting that people are sometimes almost uncomfortable with his blunt way of speaking. He's not as naive as eveyone thinks though, and can pick up on some of the really obvious stuff. If he's feeling nice, he won't press the issue, though if he's in a sour mood, he'll poke fun at you and ask about it relentlessly.
At first glance, he would appear to wield his glaive somewhat clumsily, and this would be supported by his having only had two years of training with it, and sometimes (accidentally) destroying nearby stalls/shop fronts. However, he is merely pretending to be clumsy so as to lull enemies into a sense of security. Needless to say, he doesn't put on the act for mindless enemies like lesser Nobodies and Heartless.
He has a fondness for chocolate, enjoys hugging Moogles, has the tendency to care for injured people/animals, enjoys the smell of flowers, can sometimes be caught wearing dresses, and sings to himself (or for munny). He hates beans (of any kind) as he finds them to taste bad, dilikes the Heartless because they attacked his homeworld, is afraid of the dark, does not like being alone, and whines about dealing with extreme temperatures.
Original World: Obscure Avalon
This world is an In-Between World floating closer to the Realm of Light than the Realm of Darkness. Its main features are the
Golden Orchard (where Golden Apples grow from silver trees), the
Fey Lake (a magical lake which can only be crossed by magicians and witches; the island at its center plays host to the powerful sorceress Eliana the Silver), and
Oblivion's Keep, a castle where it is always night. From the courtyard one can just make out the partially-fogged visage of a hauntingly ever-full moon.
Current Residential World: Traverse Town
History/Background:Vayne was born on the night a tragedy stuck his town, which was about two years before the events of Birth by Sleep. His parents perished in a fire that engulfed half the village. Because he did not know his parents, he took on the surname of "DeBuio", which translates roughly as "in the dark", as he was in the dark as to his heritage. He grew up as a stablehand to a local horse breeder, and in exchange for his work he was given room, board, and riding lessons. At the age of ten, about two years before Kingdom Hearts, his Uncle Desmond arrived from his home with Eliana the Silver and the other practitioners of magic. He claimed Vayne, brought him back to Fey Lake, and made him his apprentice in magic. For three years Vayne learned the basics of magic, though he was unable to master Cure before the Heartless attacked.
When he turned twelve, around the time of the events of Kingdom Hearts, his Uncle began to teach him how to wield a glaive, a difficult weapon to master, but one that is much more suitable for a battle mage, as it allows for short-to-mid ranged combat, as well as the casting of spells. A year later, Eliana the Silver herself taught him how to call upon the Light inside his Heart as a last defense against Dark Magic, though she never finished teaching him how to channel it into attacks or spells. The farthest he had gotten was imbuing his glaive blade with Light, which was a beginner move at best.
During the last few events of Kingdom Hearts II, he took an interest in caring for animals, as he had done as a child working in the stables. He became friendly with a number of animals living around Keep L'Argent, and was easily the most beloved of its inhabitants by the surrounding fauna. His favourite animal was a doe whom he named Vivianna. Then one day, the Heartless came and attacked his world. Despite his protests, Eliana sent him away so as to make sure he would survive. He has not yet heard of any news regarding his homeworld, and thus does not know what became of his world or his family and friends. When Eliana transported him, she had meant for him to arrive in Hollow Bastion to seek aid, but not knowing the exact location, and being in a panicked rush due to the Heartless attack that was taking place, she had sent him to Traverse Town by mistake instead of Hollow Bastion.
News reached Vayne rather quickly about the Nobodies and the Heartless, and the growing threat they pose. He doesn't want to fight anyone, and he doesn't want to bring harm or cause destruction, but he knows that the only way to return home is to take up his glaive and battle alongside other good people in an effort to drive the Heartless back. He wants nothing more than to return home and continue his apprenticeship with Eliana.
He happens to still have a keepsake from his homeworld; a single golden apple from the Golden Orchard. It was in the pack that Eliana had sent him off with (along with a couple potions and some food). He plans to plant it somewhere where it will grow and flourish, so as to bring a little bit of his world back to him.
Role Play Sample:Vayne looked about the sunless streets of the place he found himself in. It was nothing like home... No trees, no lakes, no... anything! It was all artificial. He had been lucky enough to end up in what people here called the "Zero District". Eliana had sent him away to find help, but the she had miscalculated or something, and instead of finding himself in Hollow Bastion, he instead found himself in Traverse Town. He had landed in what he would later find out was called the "Zero District". It was an old house on an island in the middle of the lake, and the inside looked like it had been abandoned for quite some time. There were rags on the walls, though, and he had fashioned a crude pillow out of grass and cloth. At the time, it had been as comfortable as he could afford. The motels were much too expensive to be a long term living arrangement. Still, he had been able to find the odd job around town and make the munny for a proper blanket and pillow, as well as for food. Most of his jobs involved killing Heartless. It wasn't that he had any great love for the things, but...
"Do they really have to die?" he asked himself.
After all, it wasn't their faults. It was like a wolf hunting down prey. They had to eat, or they would die off. And unlike the Heartless, people only killed Heartless to better convenience themselves.
"If only we could co-exist..." he said. Sliding down off the wall he had been sitting on, he walked out into the Third District.
"This place is so tiny," he said.
"It's a wonder they can call it a 'world'!"He walked casually through the open pavillion, hands behind his head, when he felt it. It was a sinking feeling in his stomach, like he was going to be sick. It was the feeling he got whenever the Heartless were around. the only reason he could get that feeling was because he had had so much exposure to Light. It was handy, sure, but not very fun. A tiny black splotch on the stone pavement slowly wriggled up into a Shadow Heartless, one of the types he fonud to be most prevalent. Three more followed suit, twitching up from nowhere.
"Listen guys," Vayne said,
"I don't want to fight you. I just want to get home."He didn't know who he was talking to; it isn't like Heartless understood speech anyways. One lunged at him, and he jumped to the side, calling out his glaive from the pocket dimension Eliana the Silver had taught him to store it in. Two others sunk into the ground and "walked" towards him. Vayne waited until they came back into the third dimension before swinging his blade at them. They went flying, but didn't evaporate into dark mist like they did when they died. The first one came back for him, but Vayne held up his glaive and blocked.
"I'm starting to feel like I'm going to vomit..." he muttered.
"Alright, time to heat things up!"He leveled his glaive's blade point at one of the Heartless.
"See ya!" he said.
He shot a fireball at it. He felt some of his energy drain as he cast the spell, but it had the desired effect, and the unlucky Shadow exploded into a combination of fire and dark vapor.
