Name: Demyx
Nickname:Demy, Dem-Dem, Useless
Organization XIII or Dark XII Nickname: Number IX - The Melodious Nocturne
Age: Around 10 (looks to be about 20)
Gender: Male
Species:Nobody (Humanoid)
Position: Neutral, Number IX of the Organisation
Powers: Demyx primarily considers himself to be a musician, and as such despises being forced into combat, as he thinks that he could hurt his fingers, but mainly because he prefers to lie around strumming his sitar. He instead specialises in reconnaissance - being the best of the Organisation in gauging the danger level of an area (since he'll probably want to run from it), maintaining anonymity in a world and on missions to scope out new territories. This makes him an extremely adept spy and scout, despite his laid-back exterior.
That said, however, despite being known to be the weakest of the Organisation's ranks in terms of combative power, he is by no means a pushover - while his actual martial skills leave much to be desired (he can slam his sitar into things with decent force, but that is about all there is to say about his melee combat capabilities), his ability to control the element of water freely using his sitar makes him a very difficult foe in battle. He is able to summon water and shape it into various forms to execute attacks in a myriad of ways, making him an extremely versatile long-ranged magic-based combatant. He can also strum his sitar to emit shockwaves to damage surrounding enemies.
Some of Demyx's techniques include:
- Demyx Time -One of Demyx's most effective and well-used techniques, Demyx summons several water clones of himself that he continually feeds power into with his sitar to attack his enemies. After a period of time, if all the clones have not been destroyed, they release all the energy Demyx has been storing in them in an incredibly powerful explosion of water that cause debilitatingly heavy damage on all enemies that would require great lengths to survive. However, the clones themselves are not very strong, and disappear harmlessly with a couple of clean hits - the technique's effectiveness is due to the number and time limit in which they must be destroyed. The time limit is proportional to the number of clones Demyx summons - ten clones have a time limit of one post, and twenty clones a time limit of two posts, etc. Demyx Time and Compound Time can be used only three times per thread. During Demyx Time, he cannot use any other technique except for Compound Time.
- Compound Time -Similar to Demyx Time, this technique uses note-shaped bodies of water that also require to be destroyed within a certain time limit to prevent them from exploding. However, though they cannot attack, these are more durable than the clones, and require more strikes to destroy. They have the same number to time limit ratio as Demyx Time. When used in conjunction with Demyx Time, the time limit is proportional to the total number of clones and notes together - e.g. if Demyx summons ten clones and ten notes, the time limit becomes two posts as opposed to one. Demyx Time and Compound Time can be used only three times per thread. During Compound Time, he cannot use any other technique except for Demyx Time.
- Wild Dance -A trick he learnt from his fight with Sora, Demyx seizes one of his water clones or notes and swings it about like a flail, causing melee and elemental water damage to all surrounding enemies, before flinging it at a single target. However, this also has the unfortunate side-effect of taking out his water clones in the process, so Demyx often uses this as a ploy to distract his enemies when they have almost destroyed all his clones within a time limit to waste away the precious seconds before time runs out, at which the clone he has just flung at them will explode.
- High Surf -Demyx leaps about, summoning spouts of water from the ground in his wake to cause damage to all who get caught up in it while surrounded by pillars of water that damage all who get too close. Demyx can also cause the water pillars to home in on enemy targets. This technique is useful for dodging enemy attacks while causing additional damage in the process. As with most of Demyx's techniques, he is unable to use melee attacks with his sitar while performing, since it requires him to be playing to use them.
- Bubble Trouble -Demyx summons a rain of bubbles from above to bombard all surrounding enemies and cause heavy area damage. Demyx can also control the bubbles to rain down over smaller, more specific areas at a higher firing rate, which makes it a useful ranged attack to use against specific targets after scattering a group assault with its previous form. As with most of Demyx's techniques, he is unable to use melee attacks with his sitar while performing, since it requires him to be playing to use them.
- Circular Fifths -Demyx conjures up several globes of water around him that home in on enemies and explode after a short delay. While the water spheres do not move particularly quickly, they cause heavy damage upon exploding with a relatively wide area of effect. This is effective when facing a large group of enemies from far away to scatter formation and take out large chunks of their ranks. As with most of Demyx's techniques, he is unable to use melee attacks with his sitar while performing, since it requires him to be playing to use them.
- Wave Gigs -While advancing on the enemy, he summons walls of water pillars that he launches one by one at incoming foes. The pillars rise in power and speed the longer the technique goes on for, but can be negated by attacking Demyx directly. As with all of Demyx's techniques, he is unable to use melee attacks with his sitar while performing, since it requires him to be playing to use them. However, the walls of water he has conjured remain for another post until they strike a target, have been destroyed or dismissed.
- Beat Drop -One of Demyx's most powerful instant techniques, he creates a large ball of water overhead and launches it at his enemies, knocking them back and causing massive damage comparable to that of an exploded Demyx Time. Demyx can only use this once per page. As with all of Demyx's techniques, he is unable to use melee attacks with his sitar while performing, since it requires him to be playing to use them.
Weapon:- Arpeggio -Demyx's beloved sitar, he always keeps it on hand. This is rather exemplary of his ethos of open dislike for combat, and his preference for music. In a shape reminiscent of a Nobody symbol, it has a blue sheen and has three Nobody insignia-like spikes at its head. Despite being a musical instrument, it is still extremely durable, and Demyx can swing it with free reign to strike with vicious melee attacks in combat (lovingly, of course). However, Demyx mainly uses it to heighten his hydromancy skills and cause shockwaves to send enemies reeling.
Picture:Appearance: Demyx has blue eyes and pale skin, with a youthful profile not characteristic of most of his fellow Organisation members. His features are usually pulled in a carefree smile when strumming his sitar or in a look of reluctance or downright horror in the face of having to disturb his previous activity with the missions that Saix hands out. His most prominent physical feature is, however, his dirty-blonde hair, which is pulled into an odd mullet with several bangs that fall over his face. His slight but fairly robust physique is almost completely covered by the black coat, boots and gloves of the Organisation's usual attire, which makes people look down on him even further for being a wimp.
Personality:Having gained a reputation as being a bit of an oddball and a coward amongst both friends and foes, it is easy for others to consider Demyx to not be of the usual Organisation cloth. His demeanour is rather laid-back and lazy, and were he allowed, he would quite easily spend the rest of his days lounging around the Castle strumming on his sitar, only disturbing his relaxation to make the occasional quip at the other members. He shows open dislike for both working and fighting alike, and is not below pushing missions on his juniors so that he can have more time to slack off, often complaining that he's not cut out for hard work and finds sweat gross. His reluctance for working even drives him to crass remarks about his fellow members' demise because it means that there are less people to pester him to go on missions (specifically Larxene). This makes it rather matter-of-fact that Demyx is known to be the Organisation member who does nothing.
However, while Demyx has considerable issues with his work ethic, behind his carefree and easygoing nature he hides an insecurity within himself as a Nobody that drives him to pursue his fake emotions with perhaps greater devotion than many of the other Organisation members. While he plays his sitar all day, his lack of emotion means that all he has are memories of past emotions to go by and he is constantly stuck in the same groove, unable to come up with anything new, making the one thing he loved as a Somebody a chore he practises over and over without really feeling it. In this sense, Demyx is one of the more desperate members of the Organisation who seek his heart. In his pursuit of his personality and memories of feelings, he clings on to the hope that he has not become utterly emotionless while at the same time knowing that it is ultimately futile without a heart. This is, despite hating having to go out on missions and deal with Larxene and Saix, his main reason for remaining with the Organisation.

History:Demyx joined the Organisation at the bottom as its number IX, though it soon became clear that his perceived position was going to stay that way even after more members joined beneath his rank. Having joined up purely because he had heard that the Organisation was made up of Nobodies like himself searching for their own hearts (and because he wanted somewhere safe to sleep), he was all up for lying around and playing his sitar while they would somehow, someday, get their hearts back magically. To his chagrin (or at least, that's what he remembered he would have felt) there was no quarter shown as Saix began sending him out on the first of those hated missions which he failed spectacularly (and perhaps partly on purpose). After being deemed better for recon (which was much safer and therefore much better suited to him) Demyx began to fall better into the way of things as a member of the Organisation.
The changes began to occur after the arrival of Number XIII, Roxas. They didn't interact much, although after he came he seemed to see a lot less of Axel (one of the few members he really got on well with), but even from their short interactions, he found him to be one of the more likeable members, as much as that was worth in a group such as the Organisation. However, once he had joined, Demyx's vaguely liveable lifestyle began to fall away piece by piece. Only a few months or so after his arrival, six of their number relocated to Castle Oblivion, from which only Axel returned (he should've felt worse than he did when he heard Larxene was no more, but to be fair, she was a crazy witchy). Then was the fiasco with Xion, who turned out to be a puppet, before Roxas promptly left the Organisation and everything began to accelerate out of control.
Suddenly Demyx was being given missions that put him in way over his head (having to come face to face with a god of the underworld and the Keyblade Master all in one mission was a pretty tough break) and he just wished that Roxas would just come back so that things could go back to the way they were. Of course, it hadn't exactly been tea and cakes when Roxas had been with them, but it sure was better than having to deal with a Keykid and two anthropomorphic animals trying to beat him down at every turn. He hoped that Roxas would remember the times they used to have on the missions (he had to use cue-cards then too) but eventually, reality was brought slamming down when Sora reminded him that everything that he was doing was not real - he did not have a heart.
Upon his return with the rest of the Organisation, Demyx was left wondering about Sora's words. Yes, he couldn't really feel, nothing he did really seemed to click in him with anything other than a lingering feeling of emotional nostalgia. As he retained the days plucking at the strings of his sitar, he wondered if there was much point to even playing, if there was no emotion in it - he knew that as a Somebody, he had felt such joy and fulfilment from his music, such that it drove him to keep playing forever and ever. But now, was there any real purpose to what he was doing? Was his music really music, or was it just empty movements on a set of hollow strings, reeling out sounds that were, in themselves, nothing? He thought back to why he had joined the Organisation. He had joined to get back his heart, and they had not delivered, but neither had he. From now on he was going to pursue a heart properly, so that when he played, he would be able to feel it. He would be able to create music again.
Right after lunch.
Role Playing Sample: Demyx simply stared at Saix, waiting for the unlikely but as of yet still possible moment when he would say 'just joking', but even he would have known in his heart of hearts (had he had one) that Saix did not joke when giving missions - rather, if he did, it was far more terrifying than whatever mission he was giving entailed. So Demyx found himself wondering if it was better for him if what Saix said should be taken at face value or if he was twisting his dark humour into relaying something truly horrible.
'Wow,' Demyx said eventually, preferring to take his chances with the latter (he felt like living dangerously than dying inevitably). 'I didn't know you were into cosplay, Saix. Dressing up as our Heartless, what a laugh, ha ha... ha...'
When Saix remained stone cold, Demyx's half-hearted (or no-hearted) laughter died with the rest of his hopes for life. 'What?! Are you serious? You want
me to go to Destiny Islands pretending to be a Heartless? You DO know what the Keyblade Master did to me last time we faced off, right? He wiped the floor with me!'
Time for pride later. Living was rather important now.'Come on, Saix, there are like, SO many people who are better suited for this than me.,' he complained. 'It's not Organisation XIII for nothing, you know, there are THIRTEEN of us. Surely you could just drop me on just this one mission - I mean, Destiny Islands is just a beach and some trees, right? It can't be too hard with muscleheads like Lexaeus and Xaldin smashing things the way they usually do - or Larxene. Just point her in the right direction and tell her to destroy whatever's just ahead, saying she can make fritters with their brains later, or whatever she likes doing other than mass genocide. That's bound to get the job done.'
Inwardly, he knew that no matter what he said eventually he would be manhandled and one way or another have his rear plopped onto the islands. What he didn't know until a moment later when Saix appeared to glance up at the space above his head and his Demyx-senses began tingling was that he would probably have considered himself to be lucky to arrive anywhere at all in one piece.
'... She's standing behind me, isn't she?'
