In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

A fiery-haired boy stepped onto the streets, looking about the dimly-lit, Victorian-esque buildings with a glint of fulfilled longing (a peculiar notion to be placed in context with a location such as Traverse Town, which was possibly the most bizarre world in existence due to the patchwork nature of its makeup) and breathed in a great sigh. This was it. This air was the air of one who had managed to take his first independent steps in the long journey of a free, responsible adult. He could almost feel his nose growing with pride.
But, of course, that didn't last long.
'Hey, watch it, shorty!'
The 'shorty' in question stepped back quickly as a man lugging a crate walked by him, and he had half a mind to give him a taste of his own medicine before he forcibly calmed himself down. Haters gonna hate, and he was here on a personal mission, one of many in his brand new odyssey throughout the worlds. He'd done a quick sweep of the place - now to do his job as a Chronicler and update his journal.
He took out a peculiar-looking handheld device, not much bigger than a palm organiser. He flipped the touchscreen up, and it slid into a stand-like position, revealing the qwerty keyboard underneath. He grinned (not just for sentimental reasons, the silly thing ran on smiles of all things), and wondered not for the first time whether the engineers of the Gummi Phone he had been given, the chipmunks Chip and Dale, had picked this particular energy source because he beat them in a self-imposed computer cracking competition.
Traverse Town, he typed. An odd but quiet town split into three main districts. Its oddity could stem from the lively nightlife-based design of the town. People find their way here after losing the hearts of their Worlds to the darkness. An above-average concentration of Heartless.
He closed his phone and put it back into the phone bag secured about his waist. No wonder there were so many strange people around here. With all the Heartless about, the place would attract mercenaries, and they'd need equipment, which would bring in merchants and technicians. On top of all that, the population basis stemmed from basically everywhere in the universe. It was cemented in an entire network of strangers.
As he looked around the square, he couldn't help thinking -
With so many different people, I wonder who I might run into here?

It had been quite a while since Ash had really talked to anyone in traverse Town.... especially people, seeing as her last adventure was with a blue ball of jello.
This didn't really bother her though. With every new person, there was a chance they'd kill her. That wasn't a risk that she really liked to take...
As usual, Ash was lurking along the the tops of the several buildings in the first district. There was often people around that she could watch from above, but it lacked the danger of the heartless, so she liked it better. Less fighting, less chance of dieing.
Ash was just minding her own busness while somthing from below caught her eye. a shiny little square, being held up by a person that she had never really seen before. This definantly caught her curious side, although that isn't very difficult, and she stealthily crawled down the building into an alley way between to buildings.
Once she was down on the ground, the person had put the thing away.... but this made her even more curious... why would you put a light in your pokect!? that was just silly!
Ash wanted to get closer to this new person, if not to ask them questions... but that never seemed to ork out as well as it seemed it would in her head. She simply just stayed where she was and watched the strange new person... maybe he had other interesting things!
The Chronicler turned around - his intuition was rarely wrong, and his existential urge to be drawn to curious things was far better than any treasure map, and right now, it was telling him to look backwards cos there would be something exceedingly interesting waiting for him just a 180 degrees turn away... and lo! His eyes widened, his breath caught, for before him stood something which he had only seen twice in his lifetime - a girl, with pink hair and a golden eyes (trivial features), who was actually shorter than him (so not trivial)!
But of course, he was a Chronicler. Everything he did was to step into a world of greater knowledge and deeper information. His eyes took her in with expert analysis - height was definitely shorter than him, he would say that she was almost five feet (five feet - so much shorter!), and she was wearing a revealing blue attire that looked as if it was of tropical origin (don't blush, remember what happened on that mission to Destiny Islands with those older schoolgirls playing beach volleyball in the summer...), but her physique seemed to mark that of one not unused to combat, if her muscle structure was anything to go by. Steady forearms, but no more than toning on her abdominal muscles, so perhaps a weapon-user, a polearm to be exact. Not too heavy, judging by her slender figure. Very interesting tattoo on her ankle. Doesn't seem to be of any local design, indicating that she is a world traveller, though the artistry wasn't one he recognised - it certainly wasn't one he'd studied properly. It seemed to be an angular interpretation of a tree-like design, strangely perpendicular in form, not dissimilar to idiomatic graphical interpretations of data forms he'd seen, though the detail in geometric accuracy and different shading was far more organic and accurate than he'd ever encountered before. All in all, a very interesting person.
And she was short.
The Chronicler's face flew into an involuntary grin as he bounded up to her. 'Heya! You don't seem to be from around here. My name's Novi. What's your name? What world did you come from?'
And how old are you? Cos it's gonna be totally awkward if you're like... ten or something. That'd be depressing. And would mean I'm being reeeeally creepy.

Ash was still almost excitedly looking at the stranger because she was so confused by him... but then he turned around and came towards her.
Ash squeaked and slightly backed up, just from not knowing what he suddently wanted from her.
"I uhh..." Ash said nervoulsy when he suddenly started to question her. I was nooottt prepaired for this! she thought and looked up at him. surpriseingy enough, this was one of the few males she wasn't INCREDIBLY shorter then. Then agian. her definition of tall people was ether or not they where climbable.
"M-my names Ashtoreth." Ash said and shrunk back from him. She didn't want to answer the second question... so she just ignored it.
Novi paused in his advance, realising that he was startling her. Pulling a face, he said, 'Aww, come on, I'm not scary. Look, I've got like barely five inches on you.'
Although, if you round that up, that'd be like... what, a whole 10 inches!
His smile grew wider at that thought. 'Anyway, it's nice to meet ya, Ashtoreth! That's a bit of a mouthful. Did I get the pronunciation right? Mind if I call you "Ash"? Or maybe "Tori"? Should it be "Rethy"? Judging from the way you pronounce it, the "Ash" part is probably the most prevalent part, but I don't think I can't quite place the linguistic origin, so I can't figure out the most important section from its etymology, since I'm guessing it has a compound meaning due to the length of the name -'
He stopped, and a sheepish expression spread over his features. 'Haha... sorry. Didn't mean to go off all on my own like that. In any case, what're you doing here? Judging from your outfit, you can't have been here for too long, or otherwise you might have decided to get some warmer clothes. I'm from Disney Town, so I'm a world-traveller too. You don't need to tell me where you're from if you don't want to, I get the whole inter-world secrecy thing. Though I wanna make an educated guess at Destiny Islands, or maybe Deep Jungle... though your clothes seem of a more urban make, even though the design's tropical. Maybe an urban world in a rainforest setting? Now that'd be a sight to see!'

( Sorreh! the internets just decided to poof yesterday D8)
Ash looked in pure confusion at the stranger as he started going off about her name. She had no idea what in the world he was talking about. “ I have no idea what you just said but it’s shortened to Ash…” She said and looked up at him awfully confused.
And then he just kept talking….. Ash just simply blinked as he tried to guess where she as from, or why she was dressed the way she was. “Uhh….I have no idea what your talking about… again. Whatsa Destiny Island?” She asked and tilted her head. This boy really confused her…. But she hadn’t forgotten about the shiny thing. “ Hey! Why did you put a light in your pocket earlier?”
'I wonder what the architecture would be like? With such organic resources around, the use of metals to build structures might be -'
Novi paused in mid-rant at the girl's question. 'Eh? Light? Oh, haha, you mean my phone?'
He unzipped one of the pockets on the munny case around his belt and took out the slightly bulky phone. The controls were isomorphic and it was built to take damage (hey, it was made out of the same materials as Gummi Ships after all), so he didn't have any worries about her damaging it. And he felt like he owed it to her after she'd indulged his curiosity.
'It's pretty cool, huh?' he said proudly. 'There ain't one like it in the world. If you press... here, you've got my journal, and uhh... wait, that's my G-Driver... and here we are, we've got the contacts here...'

( Sorry I'm late x.x )
Ash looked curiously at the boy when he started takeing the shiny light out of his poocket.... then handed it to her.
Ash looked at the strange object very confusedly and moved it around in her hands. The light from the screen really amused her, but she had no idea what the other things he mentioned where.
"what iiiissss all this stuff?" she asked, bearly grasping the fact that she could see things ON the screen.
"And What even is this thing? What do you do with it!?
Novi looked at her in surprise. 'You kiddin? You've never seen a phone before? Admittedly, it's a weird-looking one, but you know, it's pretty easy to work out - maybe phones in your world's are different. Wait, that'd be amazing! I wonder what technology you use - and how far it's gone. Judging from your appearance, you don't seem to be a technology-based combatant, so you can't have too many gadgets...'
Although, if his theory about the urbanised jungle settlement world held, then she should be aware of such things - it didn't look like her tattoo was done with primitive tools in any case, which suggested the use of hi-tech equipment. So why did she seem to unfamiliar with technology. Maybe it really was because it was just a weird-looking phone.
'Well, in any case, this is a mobile phone - it's a communication device that lets you talk to people all over the universe. I mainly use it to record various things - I'm a Chronicler, it's what I do. I write accounts, take images, so that we can learn more about everything we see and keep a record of everything that happens.'
Novi described his job with a pride in his voice that he couldn't quite cover. 'Without a history, a future's hard to envisage. By knowing the past, we can work to avoid past mistakes and build on our greatest achievements. So in my opinion, being a Chronicler's one of the best jobs ever.'

Ash was a little concerned when the boy wa so surprised that she didn't know what the phone was. "I'm not used to.... any technology really...." Ash said a little sheepisly, looking up. Ususually, when she didn't know things, people got mad... so it was just a habbit of hers to be scared.
Once he started to explain to her what it was, without her really asking, she got a little better.
"You really like learning stuff don't you?" she asked and slightly tilted her head. This guy could be rather dangerous since he's smart.... I bet that phone thing could easily tell him what I am... she thought and crossed her legs a she commonly did to hide her brand agianst her other leg. She also slightly moved her head closer to her staff, incase he decided to put the peices together if he knew. "Cause if you didn't I don't see Why you'd have that job" she giggled to cover that she was being defensive.
Novi grinned back at her. 'Yeah! Nothing's better than coming across something really worth solving - cos when you work it out, it's just like... the best feeling in the world, you know? Like you've given something meaning, given it sense and order. Given it some real purpose. A lot of people take it for granted, but being able to know what something's here for, what you're here for, is really, really special -'
As he spoke, his sharp eyes noticed the small shift in her position. The tattoo was no longer visible, and her staff seemed to be held in a position that it could be easily whipped off the ground into a strike. And all that with her sudden giggling fit didn't quite add up. He'd been observing people for years - it was what he did. When information wasn't written down, the only record one could find a lot of the time was by word of mouth. Getting them out of people was another form of treasure-hunting. And this girl was hiding something, for sure.
Novi wasn't a particularly anti-social person, but when faced with a secret waiting to be uncovered, he was unable to help himself. So when he had a girl of such interesting composition before him, it was like a present waiting to be unravelled, but in a chest with a particularly complicated lock. And complicated was what Novi loved best in a challenge - he just couldn't let it go. He had been flexing his curiosity muscles since seeing Ashtoreth (was that what she said her name was?) for the first time, and now he needed only a little tip to go into full information extraction mode.
'Well... I like interesting things,' he began. 'And come to think of it, you're really interesting too. I can't quite place your world origin - you still haven't told me that. Judging from that tattoo on your leg, it might have a cultural basis with maybe tribal roots. It would certainly explain our attire and that staff, though in the same way, I can't pin down your fighting style - in the case that you do, in fact, fight - though judging by the length of the weapon, it focuses on keeping enemies at a distance. Now, I might be reading too much into this, but a lot of polearm users are less secure about close-range action, which also can sometimes be translated into their sociological views... now, I'm not saying you like being a stranger, but you do seem to be quite reserved in telling me about yourself. In any case, you've piqued my curiosity as a Chronicler. I'm not gonna deny I want to know, but I'm no interrogator - if you don't wanna tell me, I won't pester you.'

Well this wasn't good..... backed into a corner yet agian.... but, this time by a smart person. Ash almost fantically looked back words as she tried to escape from all of the questions. Hopefully, if she went ahead and answered a few that she could, he would just stop.... she didn't want to talk about her brand.
"N-no I was taught how to use a staff cause I'm small... Feinds in my world would just eat me up in one bite if I let them get to close." she said and looked shyly back at him. "And your right... My mother made these clothes for me, its kind of a traditional thing.... but otherwise, you're a little off." she said and hoped that was enough for him.... Being someone from Gran Pulse wasn't somthing to be particularly pround of... even of it was rather pretty and people generally liked to hear about it.
Novi tilted his head to the side, simply watching her for a few moments, and then let out a half-exasperated, almost petulant sigh. It looked like she wasn't going to give, and he didn't want to push any further. From the way her speech stumbled, he felt that if he were to continue trying to extract information out of her in this situation, it would only serve to bring her closer to the edge of her perceiving him as a hostile than as a neutral acquaintance, which he guessed was what he was now.
'Alright, whatever, I can take a hint,' he said a little disappointedly. 'But hey, that's okay. What's yours is yours, right?'
Maybe he'd have a chance to ask her later, when they knew each other better. Maybe not. But in either case, it was useless trying to beat a dead horse, and no matter how much he wanted to know, there was only so much he could do. He didn't find extracting information from people too difficult, but there was something about Ashtoreth which made him reluctant to keep pressing - she was not a battle-hardened warrior who would keep her silence under the threat of terrible pain and eventual death, but neither was she an ordinary civilian who could be persuaded by their innately human natures of greed, desires and vanity. No... she was like a frozen lake - hard to break, but once broken, she broke all over.
Novi put on a bright smile. 'Anyway, there's so much to find out about this place. I wonder how long this town's been here. Maybe if I checked out the architecture and dated some of the stonework, I might get a rough estimate. Man, I don't know where to start!'

( sorry late >.<)
Ash almost sighed with relief when Novi decided to stop asking her questions. Thank goodness, I’d really like to not have to scare him away, he seems nice. she thought. Ash slightly nodded at what he said, trying not to offend, even though she was really happy that he wasn’t going to press her anymore.
The next thing that he said however…. Confused her. “You never slow down do you?” She slightly teased him. He wanted to do what now with the stones? “Well… I’m not good at history… stuff…. But I’d say That this town popped up in the last 500 years or so…Not that that’s a very good estimate…” Ash said. She’d heard about towns before she had turned to crystal… but never about this one, or the heartless…. So she assumed it was in that time period.
“My question woul be how long it took to build…. Must have been foreeeevveerrrrrr she added. Maybe if she sounded interested…. Things would get better!
Novi gave a laugh. 'Haha, no way, it can't be 500 years. Look at these buildings. The wear and tear don't match the designs - the architecture's a lot older than the actual buildings. I'd say that this town was built with a neoclassical flair in the last ten or twenty years. None of the usual signs of temporal wear, and also the hybridisation of the machinery together indicates a modernity that's way more recent than five centuries ago.'
He gave a hum as he frowned in thought. 'I wonder if the creation of this town coincides with some other events. If enough relevant historical occurrences intersected at roughly the same time period, then I might even be able to come up with some evidence-supported theories about the unleash of Heartless...'
He caught himself and grinned sheepishly at her. 'Haha, looks like you're right, I never slow down.'
Looking up at the unending night sky, Novi's gaze traced the edges of the rooftops. 'Hey, you wanna go have a run around? We can get a better view of the town from up there, and who knows - we might find somewhere cool.'
