In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Novi couldn't help but bristle at their words. A hall pass from a teacher? How old did she think he was? No older than her, certainly, and he took her ignorance as an affront to his intellect (and his height). 'So-called'? Was there ever a more dangerous collection of information in any world that she knew? Where on earth did she think she was standing?!
And Rachel was no better. If she couldn't find her way around a library, then it was just as well that they took a long time with her Research License! Even if she was a 'mature adult' and all that, he still found it grinding against his academic side when people who professed to be intelligent looked down on him because of his youth. He bit back a few choice words to lash back about her age, and he took out his phone, and held up the charm dangling off it, so that they could see the emblem of the Disney Chroniclers.
'Novi, a Chronicler from Disney Castle,' he said proudly. 'I'm on a journey to expand the archives of the Castle through research, investigation and exploration. And as such, I have exploratory access to all areas on all the worlds I can get to. If that won't do, I have an ID card... here... and other documents saved here.'
Putting it away, he said to the redhead, 'Now that my "hall pass" is sorted, may I remind you that Heartless do still appear around here even with the Claymores, especially as all of the research on Hearts that went on here make it a hotspot of sorts for Heartless. They might be more likely to "mess things up". And being a Chronicler, I make it a point to know my history. Do you honestly think that after knowing the significance of this place I'd go around wrecking decades of delicate work?'
He accentuated the last part most, as that was the part of her accusation he'd found the most offensive. He was a Chronicler! He found and preserved the tales of time gone past - what kind of respect was this for such an important task? Novi then turned to the other woman. Rachel, her name was.
'While I'm not as old as you are, I would have thought that one with enough scholarly intuition to gain a Research License granting access to one of the most extensive libraries on Heart Sciences in the universe would have enough tact not to rate others' intelligence by their appearance alone,' he said, a little more bitingly than he had intended, but then, she had been seriously presumptuous, especially if she claimed to be a fellow scholar.
Perhaps he was getting a little more irritated than he should be.
No. They made fun of both my intelligence and my height. That's a no-go.

"Hm?" Kairi reached out without hesitation at the charm; she pulled it up to get a good view even if it meant to force the other's arm to stretch out in compensation. Why does this looks familar?
Letting go of the charm, she shook her head as it dawned on her. Who else in the worlds would have a mouse icon as an emblem? Plus the King did came from a world even if she hadn't visited it, and the name had a familiar ring to it. Maybe Sora had mentioned it at one point.
Kairi arched her brow at him as he informed her of topics she already knew of. She lived her, so she had a stable idea on how the world functioned and moved. Also she had her own experience with heartless, one with a human face at that, and he was more interested in her than this library, but she wouldn't go blabber that to him. "If you're the people that aren't who they say they are, then yes...you possibly can, and I know the Heartless themselves wouldn't boldly stroll here unless they can without much harm...or heavy artillery at that. If they did, they would already, and since they hadn't...not trusting everyone can be a smart thing. Some people like to explore more than just the library."
"But since...you're carrying the King's sign if I'm right, then I would think you're in good standing, but I would think Disney Castle,...if that is the King's world..., would have politer represenators. Either way I'm sure any of the 'big juicy stuff' you're looking for...isn't here; I doubt the committee would leave much old research that can...inspire unwanted thoguhts, so if you were going to look up more of this place, you should've contacted with them first."
Her knuckles rested on her hips as she looked at the teen, "Which is odd, they are alliance of the King, and I haven't heard any whispers of a Chronicler coming in. So what's up? Isn't it rather rude...to just step into someone's house without much of a formal greeting or permission, especially if you think me being here is oh so random and I live here? As long as you THINK you have room to question me, Iiii have just as much to question you. Sooo with that saaid let's start over shall we."
"I'm Kairi, unofficial Committee Member, and this is Rachael. So what precisely are you looking for?" She may as well keep an eye on him, since he have an obnoxious since that she shouldn't be here.
Rachel blinked a couple times and then laughed a tiny bit, covering her mouth slightly so as to avoid making too much noise. She found the situation funny, slightly, but the tension between the two younger people needed diffusion before things got out of hand. She smiled at the young Chronicler, who seemed to have ruffled feathers regarding both her and Kairi's observations regarding his age.
"I apologize for my comment about your age, Novi," she said, "but I think you can sympathize when I say that sometimes, your age in your head and your age in your body don't quite match up..." She sighed, he smile slipping for a single second.
And I feel so old...
She shook her head, and smiled again. She noticed for the first time how heavy the library felt, and she wanted to hurry and get to the gardens and get working. It would do her some good. Looking back to Novi, she felt reminded of Locke... Always bristly when someone judged him by appearances... It made her somewhat homesick.
"Anyways, Novi," she said, getting back on track to distract herself from that line of thought, "We were going to go out to the gardens and start sprucing things up, plant new flowers and revitalize things a bit..." She gave an aside glance to Kairi, feeling that even though she was the older one, Kairi was the one with a higher authority.
What's her problem? Novi thought, utterly bewildered. I honestly didn't get a single word of that. Heavy artillery? Juicy stuff? She lives in the castle?! What is she on about? And politer representatives? Rude?! After she was the one who insulted me in the first place?!
'Tell me if I'm wrong, but I just showed you my "permission", which you so "politely" grabbed,' he said angrily. 'A polite representative or no, I at least don't appreciate being talked down to by anyone, especially if they're implying that I'm a common vandal after I've offered tangible proof, permission and reason for my own right to be here. Yes, it would have been nice to get the chance to introduce myself to the RGRUC, but as a Chronicler on wandering status, the whole point is that people often don't see me coming. And for some reason, everyone seems to be busy with something and I haven't had a chance to meet a Committee member to do the aforementioned introduction.'
He felt his irritation rise as he continued to recall her presumptuous remarks. 'And how can you call a historical landmark "someone's house"?! Certainly doesn't sound like a member of the Committee - I don't think I've even seen your face on the Radiant Garden registry let alone on the roster for the RGRUC!'
Opening up his phone, he called up the archives window (thankfully he was already logged into the system) and with a few taps, came up with the data on Radiant Garden, selecting the list of Committee members. 'Here,' he said holding it up. 'You've got Leon and Yuffie and Aerith and the rest of them, but I don't see your profile here.'
Closing it up, he put in his pocket. 'If you weren't added with the last update, it means that you haven't been here for much more than a year at most,' he deduced. 'So I hope you understand when I find a girl my age who has been in this world for a relatively short time presenting no evidence of identification and clearance in a room full of highly-classified information looking for flowers in the wrong section of the library... I am given reason to be somewhat curious as to what they are doing here.'
As Rachel spoke, he turned his attention to her, wondering what more he'd have to take before he finally snapped. But he calmed slightly at her apology - at least this one seemed to have some more sense in her brains over emotive reflexes than the other girl.
'Sorry, I've got work to do here - I'm searching for hidden notes amidst the pages of the books as well as trying to find remnants of any other research that occurred over the past decade alongside the ones pertaining the Heart, as an answer to your question -' he gave a nod to Kairi, '- but I can certainly help you find that book on flowers.'
Leading the way to the botany section near the entrance to the library, and with an agile sequence of leaps, climbed up the ladder and hung off the rung with his feet as he began running his fingers over the spines of the old tomes to trace their lettering identifying their contents.
What you'd need is something that can grow in the Gardens... but perhaps a hybrid that hasn't been grown before to give it an extra zest. The roofs are predominantly of an orange hue, so perhaps a pink blossom with some white to offset the colours?
'I guess you could start with this one,' he said, pulling out a thick volume from the shelf. 'It's a catalogue of the natural ecology in this world - it's a little outdated, but it should be okay. If not, I'd say that Areith, one of the Committee members is your best bet, since she probably knows the most about planting stuff in the Garden's current environment -'
He caught sight of Kairi in the better light, and his face pulled into a frown. 'Wait, now that I look at you, there's something distinctly familiar about your face...'
What did she say her name was? Kairi. That name does ring a bell...
An eyebrow rose as it clicked. 'You're a Princess of Heart. The one closest to the Key.'

Kairi pulled one of her blank faces, which was remarkably close to the one she wears when a teacher babbles so much that her interest was lost in the ever-flowing of words. She blinked, while thinking of other thing she could be doing, then to listen to a borderline rant. There was a Nobody to help reclaim his heart; a Heartless, who she of all people befriended, is off being a wall between a world and his chaotic dark co-workers, and worlds that were calling her. This Novi guy and ego was the least of her priorities to stand around and argue with his limited knowledge and research. Instead she just stood there with her arms folded over her chest waiting for the buzzing in her ears to stop.
Well since he's not working for the Dark XII, then I don't have to babysit him. Then again I can always ask Ienzo if he becomes any sense of shady...if his rudeness isn't do it enough for him. For a guy who seems so smart...he doesn't really think beyond the tip of his nose...
People in Radiant Garden period hadn't been on their worlds for years, so it's not like he would have expansive data on all the personnel for over a year to begin with. Also it's been a while since anyone had heard from the King, Donald, and maybe even Goofy to supply what Novi could know. So it would be obvious that his information was out of date, which she found...quite sad on his part for a proud Chronicler to be so behind with the current on-goings, faunt it, while hunting down for the past.
She didn't follow closely behind them, since she already knew her way around the place. Plus she was here on other business before Rachael showed up and dropped the weight of her whimsical story...of being dead. She didn't want to go anywhere near the concept of necromancy, so she deviated her towards ...flowers. What she was looking for was more lighter information about hearts, heartless, and the relationship between nobodies. She had made a promise to help one reclaim his heart. Finding a table not so far from Novi and Rachael, she wiggled on it, while her mind went a mile of minute.
Hmm maybe I'm going by all of this the wrong way. Every Nobody have a heartless, and those heartless technically have their hearts. I don't know...who's Axel's heartless maybe, and for some reason I doubt he would come...peacefully.
That ended up towards a simple solution, use the keyblade, and Axel would just have to grab his heart before it floats away to Kingdom Hearts. Now that was easy peasy lemon squeezey. At least that way...Axel won't have to fade...or does he? That's where the road ended; she didn't knew much about the mechanics of the Nobodies, yet they are pretty much a new breed. Sora claimed to have collected some of Ansem's loose research on them, and knowing him and the committee, it's probably all in the computer...
No I can't go there now. Rachael technically wouldn't be allowed there, and she didn't want to have an obnoxious Chronicler trolling around behind her either, since with his 'job' he felt he had a sanctified right to everything versus civilians.
"Still...that wouldn't help Ienzo either...," she knew the Heartless wanted his old life back, but she had no idea how to return it. The keyblade would just end everything for him. Hmmm what if she can pull off that healing light she had done with Sora...years ago. It was a long-shot, but still worth the try; it somewhat worked on Kuu, so more research and finnese, it would be functionable. With a clunk of her shoes, she was going to skip off towards mystical section of magick to hunt down light magick for specifics. It wasn't until that voice did she stopped.
She merely shrugged, "And if I was? Hmm it cooooooould explain why I'm not listed in your out-dated archive, why I questioned you,...and maybe why I'm here. Or maybe I'm just some random girl near your age who just roams libraries and personal historical landmarks, while being completely ignorant of its contents to look for flowers in the heart section."
Ending with a smile, she turned on her toes and walked off.
Rachel looked stunned. She blinked a couple times. Kairi... a Princess? That's why she'd felt so much more in control than Rachel. This was her home, to be sure. Rachel subconsciously bowed her head slightly when Kairi began to speak, but corrected herself. As she turned on her heels and began walking away, Rachel looked hesitantly between Novi and Kairi's retreating back.
"Kairi..." she said, taking a few steps forward, and then trotting after her, her green dress hiked up. "Kairi! Please, wait for me!" Turning around, she quickly waved to Novi to follow.
Kairi might not be happy I invited him along... but I think he meant well, Rachel thought. Besides, whatever a Chronicler is, I bet he could fill me in on the way things work around here... even if he is a tad rude.
Kairi was walking incredibly fast for not power-walking. Of course, Rachel's own speed (or lack thereof) may have owed to the fact that her dress needed hiking up or else she'd trip over it. She smiled to herself.
"Kairi, are we headed to the gardens?" she asked. "We didn't grab any books on flowers, but if you just point, I can unwither like nobody's business!"
It was strange, to be talking about flowers and princesses. Rachel had grown up knowing only the sparse grass around her village and the looming shadow of the Empire. It gave her pause, for a moment, when she considered that she was no longer under threat from the Gestahlian Empire... but she wasn't safe. Not yet.
She slowed to a halt. The things her world had endured... The things all these worlds had endured... These things just could not continue. Rachel shook her head. What could she do? She was one woman with a magic rock stuck in her chest.
"I'll do whatever I can..." she whispered. "And then I'll see you again, Locke. I'll make the worlds safe for the both of us..." She looked out a nearby window, at the sunny day passing by outside.
Novi leapt down from the ladder. 'Hey! Hey, wait a minute!'
He ran quickly to catch up to Kairi's haughty steps. 'Look, I'm sorry about earlier, you didn't tell me who you were so nothing you said made any sense. Wait, that sounded bad, I'm sorry - it's my fault I didn't recognise you as a Princess of Heart, you're kind of new on the systems and I haven't been back for a while for a direct update, so all I had to go on was just a girl who didn't know her way around a restricted library mouthing off - no, scratch that, I'm going wrong again... look, wait, would you just hold on a bit and wait?!'
Novi stepped swiftly around straight onto Kairi's path, grabbing her briefly by the shoulders to stop her in her tracks. In his deepest heart of hearts, Novi was still stinging about her comments - there was a residue of the feeling that they had nevertheless not been called for. But this was repressed by the realisation of what she must have gone through as a Princess of Heart in the last few years, as well as the even closer proximity to the forces of darkness her relationship with the Keyblade Master had resulted in. They were not experiences he could understand, and therefore something he could learn - this meant that she was, in a sense, superior to him in that area. He was not childish enough to allow his pride to push aside his devotion to his duties in recording new experiences as a Chronicler.
'I'm honestly sorry about earlier,' he apologised in what he hoped was a sincere tone, letting go of her. 'I was annoyed about being written off as a fraud - I kind of take things like that personally. Sorry, I should have verified the entirety of your identity before wasting time getting riled up first. Can we start over... again?'
He held out his hand. 'You can call me Novi. I'm a Chronicler of Disney Castle, specialising in combat missions. To be fair, I'm still fairly new on the whole travelling alone thing myself and there's still a lot I've got left to learn.'
Giving a bright grin, he said, 'That's why it's so exciting to get to see this library.'

Hopefully that would drop the Princess of Heart chatter; she didn't need everyone and their great-aunt knowing about her 'status' and very being at that. It just gave people with the wrong intent...too many ideas; also not too long ago that what precisely happened. The red-head had to shake her head to not recall Ruold and ignore the confusion of Rachael's formalities. If anything the last thing she wanted was the spotlight or exalted on a pedestal; in her eyes, she never truly considered herself a princess, a classical fairytale princess. She lacked legit birthrights of a Princess; she wished whatever she was could just be a mere unimportant title and label for she can continue on to be 'just Kairi', but it wasn't simple when she's one seventh of a keyblade, a key to the keyhole. If only she could adorn some of the perks of her choosing and rid of the cons that worked against her.
Deep thoughts of her present disdain towards her identity muted her ears to their calls. But reflecting on whats he was redirected her to the task at hand, the responsibility she gave herself, try to give back Ienzo's and Axel's humanity. Hopefully being a Princess of Heart would grant her a simple wish of making that possible, if only.
"Look, I'm sorry about earlier, you didn't tell me who you were," her aqua eyes bounced back in Novi's general direction realizing he was following her.
"Maybe I didn't want anyone to know...," she muttered lowly, while her eyes narrowed. How many people knew about her now BESIDES the worst people ever, Dark XII, Organization XIII, and the Hellfire Council...what's left of them.
"..so nothing you said made any sense," she halted for a moment wondering if he just somehow indirectly insulted her. Turning her head she stared at him blankly as void as a nobody, "Wait, that sounded bad..."
That's nothing new, With a sigh, she started on again towards her previous search.
"...it's my fault I didn't recognize you as a Princess of Heart..."
"Really didn't want to be," she replied lowly more to herself than the apologetic Chronicler. Her mind was on auto-pilot filtering in what he said without physically responding to them. One thing she concluded, he really needed to work on his social skills; fortunately she wasn't an emotional wreck to erupt havoc on every unintentional insensitive slip-up. Her leg stretched out to take a step forward before a pair of hands held her back. Blank eyes stared at him a bit lost, while marveled at his persistence. Her innocent eyes flicked back from his hands than him and became comfortable once he let go of her.
Reaching out her arm, she shook his hand once finally finding her words, "Don't...don't worry about that, and it's Kairi, just Kairi from Destiny Islands. Kay?"
She gave a smile in return hoping it was as genuine as it could be; her mind was still winding with her new mission that led her to a dead end, "Yeah this place is amazing; I just wish I can find what I need. It's much easier to have a guide then roam about the worlds until you figure things out on your own."
Her head turned to Rachael and try to smile away her melancholy demeanor, "And no Rachael, I won't be going to the gardens just yet. You can start without me if you like. I just have some loose ends to tie is all."
Novi looked at her a little confusedly. A guide? Why would she need one of those when she had two rather capable Keyblade Wielders right where she lived? He couldn't think of a reason why they would just stay behind and leave her to wander about without being able to fend for herself - as far as he could remember, the Princesses of Heart had little to no combat capabilities. Unless of course, she'd decided to leave on her own without telling them - he supposed that was what his supervisors might call 'irresponsible', but he'd had his share of that word over the course of many missions.
'It's kinda dangerous to be wandering about on your own...' he said a little uncertainly. 'But I guess you're a Keyblade Wielder yourself. I won't butt in to your business.'
He flashed another incorrigible smile as he said, 'But if it's finding something you want, then there's no-one better at it than me. If it's here I'll find it for sure. What is that you wanted to find?'
If she was looking in the Heart Sciences section, then it's anyone's guess that it's something to do with the Heart that she wants to know, he thought as he awaited her answer. Maybe she wants to find out about her own significance as a Princess of Heart? Or a friend's in trouble and she wants to help out. Or maybe she just feels she needs to know more about the concept in general, especially since she's pretty much got her whole destiny bound to the entire thing.
Pausing mentally, he added as an afterthought, Or maybe she actually does want to find some kind of flower. Like a really embarassing one, like one she might want to give to a guy she likes. A red carnation, perhaps? They're pretty dramatic.

Kairi gave him a quick skeptical glance; he was one to talk about wandering alone, and in these times, anyone could be a likeable target for heartless. The requirement for unwanted attention was having a heart. So what if she had an extra few badges tagged onto hers? Regardless even at home where it seemed safe, she wasn't, and seeing how Radiant Garden was protected, it was one of the safest worlds about.
Yet for the safest place, she ran into the most colorful of people like Yuffie, Reno, Rachael, Novi, and even a high caliber Heartless. Scratch that; she met two of them. Now with that in mind, she wondered how secure the world was. Then again she crossed Uldro outside the city walls as well as Ienzo and Axel. Ironically, she met them all back to back, which gave a foreboding ominous chill to her goosebumps, and ironically she somewhat bound herself to Axel and Ienzo. They were the motivation for rummaging in this library, so she might as well get all the help she could get.
"Alright but for an FYI...don't mention this to anyone or that I was here. Keeping a low-profile is hard enough, and I've learned that...not everyone walks lightly. Not long ago some boy nearly hang me out to dry as he yielded over to a Heartless and was about to let him take me with him. I knew the worlds...weren't as it should, but I didn't think it'd start reflecting and rubbing of on people to become THAT desperate. So you never know...who's really working for who."
Kairi rotated the kink out of her shoulders feeling her neck tensing up. That moment made her think twice about humanity. How many people willingly threw themselves into the deep end, because they felt they had no where else to turn. After that day, her paranoia spiked up, which was probably why she was hard on Novi, "So what I'm trying to looking for info on the hearts. I would dive deeper for articles about the relations of a heartless and nobodies, but I don't know if this place has been update or such research would be here so openly."
Rachel watched the exchange and bit her thumb. She was... somewhat lost when it came to all this talk of Hearts and Worlds... She had seen death and come back from it, had a being of pure magic bound to her, and was a crackerjack researcher when things came down to it, but this was out of her element. She merely sighed, and bowed her head slightly.
"I'm not... very familiar with any of this," she admitted, "but... if I can help you out in any way, Kairi, I'd love to." She smiled. "You'll just have to explain a few things along the way, is all!" She laughed a little, mostly to herself... but in truth, saying it out loud just cemented the fact in reality.
She didn't know ANYTHING about how things worked beyond the scope of her own world...
I'll have to do some research of my own, while we're here looking for whatever it is Kairi's after. Maybe I'll sneak a peek at some of what she's looking at, too. It couldn't hurt... could it?
That question stuck in her mind for a second. Was what Kairi was after, all this business with Hearts... was it dangerous information to have? To look for?
Novi nodded, reassuring her of his silence. 'Don't worry, I know how to keep my secrets,' he said back softly. 'Though, talk about chasing after a hard topic, you know? Hearts aren't easy to explain - I mean, it was difficult enough when I was learning about it myself...'
He tapped his thumb, deep in thought. If she was looking for information on Hearts, then this was definitely the right place. But Ansem had been rather secretive, and chances are that he had used this library as a reference for his current research rather than its storage. Any written records would most likely have been stored in a separate cache, either in his study or in some other hidden room - the castle was known to have plenty of those. Chances are that all she'd find were early theories and partial mentions.
'You know what, I think chances of you finding anything like that is gonna be pretty slim anywhere,' he said. 'Knowledge on Heartless and Nobodies are classified information, you know? There aren't a lot of people around these days who know much about them except Master Yen Sid and the King.'
Scratching his head, he simultaneously scrounged for what information he knew while summarising the years of reading he'd done on the subject to this day. 'I mean, from what I know, they're just a big load of bad news you get when someone loses their Heart. You always get a Heartless, but if the person's got a strong will, then you get a Nobody. They're two parts of the same whole, if you see what I mean. But other than that, it's probably going to be hard going trying to find any real deep info. It also depends on what you need it for - if it's to take them out, then I'm pretty sure any member of the RGRUC would be happy to help you.'
He paused, thinking what the best course of action would be in this case. 'Tell you what,' he said fishing around in his pockets and handing her a card. 'Feed that through any communicator and you should be able to talk to me any time. I'll leave you a message if I find anything useful in my travels, and you can check up on them whenever you can get your hands on a monitor or something.'
With a grin, he tipped his hat towards her. 'I'll get out of your hair now. Hope that was helpful, but you probably want to be doing some searching of your own. See ya!'
Upon that parting wave, Novi leapt up onto the bookcases to take a shortcut to the exit.
