In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Laughing, Shouta jumped up from his seat and ran out of the door - the little irate fear of being left behind and alone still bothering him - and followed Malum closely again all the way back down. He was getting weird looks for some reason, wondering why and not at all thinking it was because of his..odd choice of clothing. Some seemed to be leaking water out of the side of their mouths.
Weird.
"Sure," Shouta giggled again. He was content with a glassful of ice cubes, really, and as this whoooole town was snow, it meant a massive, tasteless feast for him. Oh well, it kept him from starving at least.
"Perfect," Malum spoke, very upbeat and having more of a spring in his step than usual, he hadn't been this happy in a long time. He didn't even know if he'd been this happy ever. It was rather odd that his younger compatriot could bring it out. He returned the card and wished the man a nice day and before he went out the door he held out his hand to Shouta, not just for the ward but because he was noticing some people looking rather... interested in him. He didn't detect so much malice as he did... lewdness.
As they stepped out into the cold Malum made a beeline for the nearest cafe, a place with a simple name, Gerard's Cafe. "Can't get much simpler," Malum spoke out aloud in relation to his thoughts. The place was slightly empty and they were led to a small table for two rather quickly and given there menu's. Malum didn't even need to look at his as he always ordered the same thing at this place.
Starting to feel uncomfortable at all the looks, he cheered up and grabbed onto Malum's hand once more, feeling much safer since he wasn't very likely to get lost or abandoned like this. It was a little sad that the only few people he actually knew were Malum, Sol and his parents. Sol had been very busy, but at least he remembered to pay for Shouta's lodging. Still..was he going back to that lonely life after the day was over?
Sniff.
Composing himself as they reached a cafe, sitting next to Malum and staring at the menus curiously. It was a piece of plastic-paper that listed everything sold here, apparently. Shouta flipped it several times to see how it felt for a while, then put it down, thinking hard. Normal food was expensive. So if he didn't order normal food, he'd save money!
"Two glasses of ice?" he asked curiously, scared of the waiter and tugging lightly at Malum's sleeve.
Malum's eyebrow raised slightly at Shouta's order. He wasn't sure if he was trying to help him save money or if that's what he really wanted. Malum let it go as he saw the waiter seeming to become impatient. "Um, I'd like a grilled cheese and some hot tea, constant comment if you could, please." He handed the two folders back to the waiter after he had written his order. He turned his attention back to Shouta who had been lightly tugging on his sleeve.
"Um, are you sure that's all you'll need Shouta?" Malum asked, his voice rather quiet as to not disturb anybody. He was slightly worried that the boy may not be eating healthily but he also knew he was a cryomancer so maybe that was the equivalent of healthy for him. His mind pondered other ideas as he waited for the answer. What would they do after this, and when would they be parting ways? He didn't really want to leave Shouta by himself, as he had, had a lonely life himself. Shouta was young, around the age when Malum had gone through the drastic change that made him become truly lonely.
He regretted his choices back then and he'd gladly take them back, he would've tried to forge a connection to his associates and become friends. As Malum was drifting through his thoughts he found himself remembering the first several days after he came here. There was no other time like that, knowing that no matter where you went, you were alone, and you couldn't turn back the clock to take back those days. Unbeknownst to Malum a small tear formed in his left eye and slowly made it's way down. It was only when he felt the drop make it's way to his nose that he wiped it away.
"Whoa, that was weird." Malum said this with a smile, the inverse to what emotion was trapped within.
Grilled and hot. Shouta involuntarily shivered, although he wasn't feeling cold or scared in the very least - it seemed to be natural by now. How he hated heat. Anything hotter then cooked food was very liable to send him into a dead faint while sweating profusely, as his parents discovered the hard way when he accidentally turned the water heater too high and turned on the shower spray.
Aha! He said need!
Loopholes were fun. Nodding, Shouta smiled sweetly, although the smile faded slightly as Malum's thought seemed to drift. He reminded the ice fairy of himself when he was very, very deep in thought, like figuring the answer to a really hard crossword puzzle. Curiosity turned to alarm when a tear rolled down Malum's cheek. Even more alarmed now, he wondered if other people cared this much about him eating ice and snow.
"W-what's wrong?" Shouta asked, concerned as he moved closer to Malum, ready to order something else if his choice of "food" bothered him that much.
"N-nothing, just some thoughts dragging up my memories again." It was a bold lie, Malum doubted Shouta would believe it and was prepared for whatever question he would fire off next. Before that could happen though the waiter came back with what they had asked, and left it with an 'enjoy' dripping in sarcasm. Malum didn't like that, it's not like the waiter was the one who prepared it.
"Sorry about worrying you, it really isn't a problem. You just... well you're around the age when I started to realize just how lonely I was and how I longed for an attachment to another. I'd prefer it if you didn't have to experience something like that." Malum spoke slowly, unsure if what he said made any sense. He smiled whether it did or not though. Cause that's what he always did, he'd wear his smile to the day he died if he could but at times he couldn't bring himself to show such falseness.
He took a sip of his tea and quickly grabbed several sugar packs to pour into it, the tea too bitter for his sweet tooth. He stirred his drink as he waited for Shouta to reply.
Just some thoughts dragging up his memory? Well, they'd had to be some really bad ones if he cried. Malum seemed a whole lot, like, serious then him, and Shouta wondered if it was because his world got eaten up too. Maybe he was thinking of his parents?
Sitting still like a lamb and listening carefully, not really understanding. When Malum was at his age..he had, uhm, what?
Shouta turned a light pink, looking away. "'Mn not lonely," he lied unhappily. He couldn't help it, could he? He had never stepped outside his house, it was "dangerous" back at home, this place seemed okay and for once in his life, he was free to walk around and explore. He was happy. Since he was free!
But a little part of him told him, no. At the cost of his parents? At the cost of his home? Sure, he had wanted to explore the outside world ever since he was small, but never like this. What he expected was to actually have his parents with him as he actually walked around parks and lakes, from which he had only seen in books.
Watching as ungodly amounts of sugar was poured into Malum's tea, Shouta ended up giving him a rather broken smile, wondering if he was teary-eyed. "I'm just a little..lost, that's..all.." he said, voice trailing off.
Malum sipped at his tea, enjoying the blend of sugar, orange, and of course tea leaves. It was one of the few things he was enjoying at this moment because he was hating himself for bringing up such a depressing topic.
He ruffled Shouta's hair a bit to try in some attempt to bring back the playful demeanor he had before. "Of course you're not lonely... cause I'm here with you," Malum smiled encouragingly, despite how cliche he believed that sounded. "We're all lost when we come here, but we just need to keep believing that eventually, we'll be able to find a way back to our homes." It was an idealistic saying with nothing but hope supporting it, but Malum wanted to believe it more than anything.
He took a bite of his grilled cheese and another sip of his tea as he tried to think of something to steer the conversation elsewhere. Malum wasn't well versed in finding things to talk about and was racking his brain for anything that wasn't depressing.
Taking an ice cube or two, Shouta popped them into his mouth and felt them literally disappear as they were promptly absorbed. Maybe he was a little hungry, but then again, he ate more when he was upset. It was..some kind of natural occurrence, but his parents ate more when they were upset too. They said it was normal for people to like to eat. He rather liked chocolates himself when feeling down.
Looking up with a gloomy smile, Shouta nodded but spoke woefully. "..S-Sol said, my home, is gone," he murmured. Biting his lip, a tense and rather awkward silence fell as he struggled not to cry. People would stare and laugh at him, he shouldn't, he shouldn't.
Deciding to distract himself with food, he took the first glass and started finishing off its contents, whether by absorbing or just apparently chewing through it like butter, Shouta wondered what he was supposed to say now. At the end of the day, he would go back to his room and Malum to..
Oh, no, that was horrible. Shouta couldn't imagine someone staying in the streets for the rest of their lives.
Malum frowned slightly at hearing that Shouta's home was gone like his, and also for his failing to clearly explain what he meant. "Yes, as is mine, and many others. But surely they couldn't be gone forever? I believe that our worlds will return at some point and will be waiting for us. After all, we were swallowed up in that darkness but we're still alive aren't we?"
Malum smiled, not wanting Shouta to cry or see him with a grim expression as the boy seemed on the verge of tears. Shouta probably had attachments back on his world, family and friends who he loved, unlike Malum who had just lost his 'home'.
A good question, where was Malum going to stay? "I...uh... I guess I don't really know," he said as he laughed nervously once again reaching his arm to scratch the back of his head. He continued eating his sandwich as he thought this over.
Skardial..wasn't gone forever? Really? In a fraction of a second, Shouta's negative feelings evaporated and he smiled happily instead. That meant he could go back! But he didn't really want to go back. He wanted to stay. But he wanted to bring his parents here, too. "Yes," Shouta said brightly as he perked up at once.
He watched Malum thoughtfully. Where could he stay? He couldn't very well stay in the streets! That was terrible. He downed the second glass of ice and he thought hard, before a light bulb turned on above his head.
"Oh, oh!"
It was a little awkward, but it was better then leaving Malum on the streets.
Malum was glad he managed to bring a smile to Shouta's face, it wasn't like one of the fake ones he tended to wear, it was bright and he wasn't sure if his eyes were playing tricks or if he was lighting up the room with it.
"Stay with you?" Malum chuckled nervously, the wording he used was easy to misconstrue but he knew what Shouta meant. "Well there's a slight problem with that one Shouta," Malum started to speak already thinking up a way to counter act the situation he was about to give. "I don't have enough money to stay at the hotel you and, Sol was it, stay in." A flat and simple truth but one he knew how to rectify.
"So it seems to do that... I'll have to go hunting." A light smile appeared across his face, and he finished off his tea and grilled cheese as he prepared himself mentally for the task ahead.
Shouta snorted with a giggle. "I don't expect you to have money to get a room there as well, silly," he laughed. He smiled up at Malum. "I meant stay with me! They only charge Sol-wolfy for the room, not people in the room," he said cheerfully. "Or I'd ask them for a discount by now.."
He stared at Malum, head cocked. "Hunting? Oh, can I come~?" he said, interested. Hunting for what? Animals? Oh, but that was cruel. Treasure maybe. Treasure. That was awesome!
Malum felt his nervousness rise from a simple 2/10 to 8/10 when Shouta mentioned they'd be sleeping in the room. It wasn't that he wouldn't mind it but what a lot of the town would think. A bishie younger kid, another male companion, and him. He wouldn't say that though, because that would just make things awkward between the two of them. "W-well you see Shouta, 3 people staying in a room meant for 2 would be rather cramped, I couldn't possibly cause that sort of problem. And you'd also have to explain things to Sol and unless he's an understanding guy he'd probably be rather irritated that you went and allowed a stranger to stay in the room." Malum was giving excuses and getting worried over things he wouldn't usually have a problem with.
"As for accompanying me, well it'll be rather dangerous. The Heartless aren't very fond of people here y'know?" There Malum went again, worrying about things he shouldn't and making excuses. The boy was a cryomancer so he could probably defend himself but Malum would've preferred it if he didn't have to.
(Our posts are getting short, a sign that we may be wrapping this up by the next page.)
"Three?" Shouta frowned. Three, why were there three? Did Malum have some friend? Or maybe he meant Sol?
"Oh, if you meant wolfy, he doesn't sleep in the hotel," Shouta laughed. "He stays..somewhere..in town.." he frowned, realizing he had never asked Sol where he lived. No wonder he never met him much nowadays. Malum looked awfully awkward for some reason.
"Danger?"
And Shouta made up his mind to follow Malum. It sounded exciting! And dangerous. But it shouldn't be anything he couldn't handle, he could use ice after all!
No problem!
"Then you'll be in danger too, so there's not much difference?" Shouta stated cheerfully.
