In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Picture:
Appearance:
Lightning is a relatively tall woman standing at 5'7" with an athletic build and pale complexion. She has long layered pink hair framing her heart-shaped visage with most of it pulled over her left shoulder. Her eyes are blue colored with some green around the pupils.
Her posture is the same as a soldier which in turns tends to intimidate the people around her. Her military background is shown through the lack of emotions displayed through her face, giving her persona a severe image.
Her everyday clothes consist of her a brown turtleneck under her white Guardian Corps uniform top. The overcoat has a plethora of light brown leather belts and buckles, and two large pockets on either sides. She wears a green shoulder pad with yellow lines carved into it to indicate her military rank.
Her uniform also consists of a brown, belted mini skirt with black shorts underneath. A slim, red cape is also attached to her back and her fingerless gloves are blue in color with gold plating above the knuckles. Her boots are below-the-knee height, sharing the same colors pattern as the rest of her uniforms.
Lightning wears a few accessories such as the black sleeve on her left arm and a red storage pack that hangs from her waist on her left side. On her right arm, she wears two brown leather arm bands like her sister. The young woman also possesses a silver necklace with a lightning bold pendant -- a black square and a gold one are on the right side of the bolt and two spheric stones [one pink, the other transparent] can be found into the carved lightning bold.
She also has her belly button pierced.
Lightning's armor ressembles on of a Valkyrie. She wears thigh-high boots and black gloves reaching up to her upper arm. Her gauntlets are made of leather with a silver and gold plate covering the back of her hand. The couters on her silver vambraces are very pronounces, just like the poleynes. Covering her shoulders, she has two-layered pauldrons. The bottom part of her breastplace has many creases and the upper half has a golden symbol, one that looks like a bird, located where her necklace used to be. On each sides, there is a golden losange. A long sash of white feathers is attached to her left side to represent her connection with the Goddess Etro.
Her shield has the same symbol with Etro script that can be found on Serah's outfit. Her gunblade is modified to look like a traditional sword.
Her armor and equipments are all silver colored with golden patterns.
Personality:
At a young age, Lightning was forced to become an adult and for that reason, she appears mature for her age and is very protective over Serah. Duties come above everything else, even to a level where family is neglected. She is very determined, confident in her skills and will risk anything to achieve her goals, making her quite ruthless at times. Her military career has also made her strongly independent.
She has a hard time expressing her feelings and trusting people in general. Lightning sees emotions as a weakness -- she doesn't let her feelings get in the way whenever she has to make decisions.
If something bothers her, she has a tendency to distance herself emotionally or even physically whether she has to use violence or not. Lightning is harsh upon herself as well. After realizing her mistakes, she blamed her sister's fate on herself. She felt guilt for not being present for her sister as much as she should have been and not trusting her when she announced the terrible news.
Over time, she has learned to trust people and show compassion; asking for assistance is no longer a weakness in her book. Although those aspects of her personality have changed over time, others have remained.
Lightning seems to show a side of her personality that only sees the light on very rare occasions. When being the subject of praises, she tends to show embarassment. Even though she would have many reasons not to, the soldier remains modest.
Original World: Cocoon, later Valhalla. Current World: Radiant Garden
Movie/Video Game(s): Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2/LR:FFXIII, Dissidia 012 Duodecim
History:
Lightning's father died early and when her mother was alive, she spent a lot of time working, thus giving Lightning a far longer experience with housework than Serah, whose better with cooking.
Until her mother fell ill, the three of them would spend a lot of time together.
After school, they would often go visit their mother at the hospital. Often she felt like running away, but instead she helt onto her sister's hand, repeating over and over not to run away because it was dangerous. The day they visited her after Lightning was told all the details of her mother's illness and how her conditions worsened -- they had no other family to turn to -- everything was far different.
Despite her mother reassuring the young Lightning, she took it upon herself to protect Serah. She felt she had to become an adult as fast as possible to take care of her, to make her little sister happy. She couldn't become an adult by law and it was okay. She would get rid of the name her parents gave her and make herself an adult. In exchange of abandoning her roots, she preferred becoming Serah's guardian.
She made a vow in front of her mother's grave and from that day onward, she became Lightning.
After her graduation, Lightning joined the Guardian Corps Bodhum Security Regiment where she quickly attained the rank of Sergeant. During a conversation with her Lieutenant, he mentions that she's scheduled for Officer training.
FINAL FANTASY XIII EPISODE ZERO
During the thirteen days prior to the game's events, Lightning meets NORA after being rescued from an ambush and immediately dislikes them. Soon after she learns that Snow Villiers, her sister's boyfriend, is their leader and instantly disapproves his relationship with her, thinking that an irresponsible man gathering children to fight is in no position to protect Serah.
Lightning's twenty-first birthday approaches and she starts feeling guilty for spending most of her time working long hours instead of giving attention to her sister. As she patrols the mall, she gets inspired to plan a vacation outside of Bodhum for her birthday, with her sister alone to make up for her prolonged absences, after overhearing the conversation of two tourists.
Later on as she patrols the same area, she notices two fugitive Pulse l'Cie, but judges they are merely from Eden and makes nothing of it. A few days later, she is questioned by Rygdea about the areas that might be more prominent of finding the l'Cie, Vanille. She then suspects this case is related to the incident at Euride Gorge.
While attending the festival, Lieutenant Amodar tells her about a Pulse-related incident being kept secret by the Sanctum. He also advises her not to investigate seeing that whatever involved PSICOM only brought bad news, not to mention the Guardian Corps and PSICOM weren't fond of each other.
Back home on the next day, Serah and Snow announce their engagement and to add the cherry on the top of the sunday, the littlest Farron reveals that she got branded by the l'Cie. Angered, Lightning refuses to believe Serah and demands that Snow leaves her house. Serah runs away with Snow following quickly after her.
Now alone, Lightning unwraps the present Serah got her for her birthday; a survival knife. As she holds it up to observe its every details, she comments about how practical it is.
Lightning is forced to believe Serah once she hears the Sanctum's announcement about a Pulse fal'Cie residing within the Vestige. Too late now, she leans the plan about purging the entire town and throws herself on Serah's pursuit. Unfortunately, Snow reveals that she is being held captive inside of the Vestige. Although she is exempt from the Purge due to her job as one of the Guardian Corps' sergeant, she resigns without a second thought and boards the Purge train. As she waits, she is approached by Sazh Katzroy, a pilot that volunteered himself as well. In order to rescue Serah, they are forced to become allies.
FINAL FANTASY XIII
Sazh and Lightning join forces to take over the train once they reach the Hanging Edge until they enter the Pulse Vestige. They are eventually able to stop the train, halted by a scorpion mechanic monster. They fight it then infiltrates the Vestige.
Once in the Vestige, Lightning reveals her motives and Sazh tells her the truth about this harsh reality; there's no way to save a l'Cie and in his opinion, it is better to put an end to their suffering. Lightning becomes angered and her motivation to save her sister remains intact.
The group of strangers minus Snow reach abandonned ruins where they find an old airship that Sazh is familiar with. Lightning instructs him to fly into the fal'Cie Phoenix to lose pursuit, but the ship is struck by Sanctum forces and crashes into the Vile Peaks.
Lightning grows impatient and the group is once more splitted, leaving Vanille and Sazh behind. Hope follows her, but barely manages to and is eventually left behind. Later on, Hope finds himself at her side as Vanille and Sazh choose another route. She is unwilling to allow him, believing he's doing nothing but slowing her down. Unfortunately for Lightning, they fall prey to a PSICOM ambush and has no choice but to let Hope stay with her. They decide to go through the Gapra Whitewood and catch a train to reach Hope's home in Palumpolum.
Eventually, Hope takes control of a Dreadnought despite Lightning's order to stay away from it. He ignores her and manages to use it to clear the path. Odin makes his appearance when Lightning expresses her frustration to Hope, exclaiming that she can't look after him let alone herself. The Eidolon proceeds to attack Hope and Lightning manages to save him; both of them teaming up to defeat Odin. Now convinced and having faith in the boy, she decides to take him under her wing. After apologizing and resting after defeating another group of soldiers, they make continue onward to the Gapra Whitewood.
Once arrived, Hope asks Lightning if he can take the lead this time and she agrees. She eventually lets him carry the knife Serah gave her to boost his confidence and also for protection. They discuss about Snow and his gang, Nora. Hope asks where the name comes from and comments how irresponsible it is once she explains. He continues without another word.
Hope tells Lightning the reason why he holds a grudge against Snow for his mother's death. Together, they plan Operation Nora with Lightning having in mind to help him control his emotions, but soon finds herself regretting her decision as she notices Hope only wants revenge. She tries to reason with him, telling her the Sanctum killed his mother. Hope decides to help Lightning defeat the Sanctum, but doesn't drop the idea of getting his revenge against Snow.
As they make it to Palumpolum, they see the city is crowded with PSICOM and Sanctum officers and are forced to take the underground route to avoid getting captured. After another revelation upon seeing another fal'Cie, Lightning feels guilty for dragging Hope along with her and tells him to abandon Operation Nora. She reassures him that she will not leave him behind.
Soon after, Lightning opens up to Hope and tells her the reason why she has changed her name. She tells him to talk to his dad and find the hope he was named for, another reason worth fighting for.
When they reach the surface, they are surrounded by soldiers led by Yaag Rosch. Fortunately, Snow and Fang come to their rescue. To assure Hope's protection, Lightning forces him to run with Snow and escapes with Fang. Using Fang's wireless device, she communicates with Hope and Snow and they decide to meet up at Home's home. Hope shows intentions of completing Operation Nora and before Lightning can try convincing otherwise, the line is cut.
Lightning learns more about Fang and Vanille. She backhands her once she learns they are responsible for Serah's crystallization, but realizes her agressiveness won't change anything. Fang informs her about the fate as l'Cie and assures her that Serah will awaken like she and Vanille have. They see PSICOM unites deployed above them and worry about Snow and Hope. They hurry off to find them once they hear an explosion.
They all reunite at Hope's home. Hope returns the knife to Lightning; both of them promising to protect the other. Lightning expresses more guilt and tends to Snow's wound -- inflicted from a fall to attempt protecting Hope -- and apologizes to him.
Back with Hope's father, they discuss a plan and while he mentions the many holes in the said plan, they are interrupted by a PSICOM attack. The l'Cie are rescued by the Cavalry ship.
They hear about Vanille's and Sazh's captivity on the Palamecia and eventually meet up with them. They confront the Sanctum Primach, Galenth Dysley and learns that he is the fal'Cie Barthandelus. He tells them about Serah's focus and their own. As the Palamecia falls, they are forced to escape and ends up in the Fifth Ark.
The party ponders about their true focus. Snow apologizes to Lightning for his false assumption concerning Serah's focus, but she tells him to fulfill Serah's wish to save Cocoon.
Later, they encounter Cid Raines. Lightning calls him a traitor and attempts to attack him, but he easily disarms her. He reveals he is a l'Cid himself because of Barthandelus, tasked with helping them seeing that the party's focus is to destroy Cocoon to call back their Maker.
Raines wishes to protect his home and defies his Focus, fighting them instead. They defeat him and he enters crystal stasis. The party is inspired by Raines and decides to defy their focus as well, but Fang stands against them. She doesn't want Vanille to turn into a Cie'th and exclaims that she will complete their Focus herself if she has to. Bahamut makes his appearance. Lightning asks her to fight with them and Fang eventually agrees. The group defeat Bahamut and find a ship capable of leading them to Gran Pulse, deciding to go in hope of finding more answers.
They all start losing faith upon noticing no humans on Pulse's surface. Hope begins to despair and Alexander is summoned. With the help of others, they tame the Eidolon and continues on to Oerba, hoping to find a solution to remove their l'Cie brands. They continue traveling until they reach the Sulyya Springs where Lightning and Snow walk away to discuss about Serah. She asks him about their wedding and they promise each other they will see Serah once they save Cocoon.
Once reaching Oerba, they encounter Serah who tells them about the legend of Ragnarok. Lightning is unsure and asks Serah to stop, but the girl taunts her and reveals her real name. Snow attempts to stop the confrontation and soon, Dysley makes his appearance. In reality, Serah was only him in disguise, trying to manipulate them into destroying Cocoon. They attack him and takes an airship to go back to Cocoon, knowing chaos is reigning in the capital of Eden.
Sazh crashes the airship into the Eden Grand Prix and the party manages to escape the Sanctum and head towards Orphan's Cradle. They learn that it was just a ruse and approach Barthandelus in the Narthex Throne where he summons the crystallized Dajh and Serah, destroying them in front of the party.
Lightning quickly sees through the illusion and asks Snow to remain strong and keep fighting. Barthandelus tries to force Vanille and Fang to become Ragnarok as the rest of the party are turned into Cie'th. They overcome Orphan's tricks and turn back into their human. They defeat Orphan and begin turning into a crystal as Cocoon falls from the sky.
They eventually awake soon afterwards and notice Vanille and Fang have managed to save Cocoon, their crystal forming a pillar to support it. As they see Serah and Dajh approaching them, Lightning comforts Hope regarding Vanille and Fang's fate then reunites herself with Serah. They are cut short by Snow who reminds them about their wedding. Snow tells her he will make Serah happy and Lightning congratulates them.
FINAL FANTASY XIII EPISODE I
Lightning immediately plans on saving both Vanille and Fang. She believes they will find answers on Gran Pulse and maybe find other Pulsian survivors. She worries it will be a longer and harder journey now that they are free from the fal'Cie's grip. Seeing that Serah is now in good hands with Snow and coming to the conclusion that the others will continue on with their normal lives, she takes it upon herself alone to save the two Pulsians from the crystal pillar.
FINAL FANTASY XIII-2
Now free from the fal'Cie's curse, Lightning felts omething approaching and was soon caught in a paradox. She had no time to call out to her allies and was pulled into the abyss by chaos.
Now removed from history, Serah is the only one to believe she is not dead nor crystallized.
In reality, Lightning falls through the Historia Crux and ends up in Valhalla. For a brief moment, the Goddess Etro and Lightning are made one where the former l'cie learns all about the Goddess. Sharing similarities, Lightning comes to understand and becomes her knight.
Lightning, now Etro's guardian, protects her from Caius, an immortal Guardian that wishes to destroy the timeline. With Odin's aid and an army, she attacks Caius.
Eventually, Etro's Gate appear over Etro's shrine and Lightning sees a man falling out of it. She recognizes the figure as the young man she has seen in a previous vision to be Noel Kreiss. She summons Bahamut to save him from his fall before fighting Caius once more. She manages to defeat him again and after a brief conversation, she gives Noel the task to protect Serah as she cannot do it herself anymore. She shows him a time gate and gives him Mog along with instructions to find Serah and bring her to Valhalla.
As Noel leaves, she continues her battle with Caius.
- New Bodhum 700 AF -
Lightning appears before Noel, Serah and Mog and tells them about the future she couldn't save. She explains that their attempt to save Cocoon and the two Pulsians' sacrifice opened a portal to Valhalla and Etro chose to close it to keep chaos from invading this world. However, time had been distorted and as a result, Lightning was erased from existence.
The warrior told them she could see everything from Valhalla as well as the future and feel Etro's desires. If Etro was to be destroyed, the world would follow as well. That is why Lightning decided to fight Caius.
She also explains them Caius' plan to create a timeless world and Noel reveals the reasoning behind his plan. Lightning also expresses that she needs their help, seeing that even though she fights him in different realities, she cannot defeat him alone. She tells them to fight him in mortal realm while she continues fighting in Valhalla.
Before all of them parting ways, Serah asks if they will be together again after the conflict. Lightning smiles and replies, "One thing at a time, Serah", before returning to Valhalla.
- Vile Peaks 10 AF - Lightning considers herself responsible for the disappearance of an Academy anti-paradox team called Blitz Squadron to get lost in time while they were investigating a time distortion. Before Noel and Serah engage in a fight with Twilight Odin, she appears. Later in 200 AF, Lightning is released from the burden of getting rid of him. She recalls the time they fought by her side and finds comfort in how they remember her despite her altered appearance.
Later, Mog reveals a phased-out image of Lightning where she expresses that at the beginning of her journey to save Cocoon, she thought she was alone but as the adventure progressed, she was proven wrong since she shared the same burden with the others. Now that she truly is alone in Valhalla, she finds motivation into knowing everyone stays strong in that battle. She also tells Serah that she misses her and wishes for they day they can be together to come soon before disappearing.
- Valhalla ? ? ? -
Lightning reappears to save them as they fight Caius the first time in Valhalla. She urges them to keep hope alive before vanishing once more.
Later, Lightning continues her endless battle with Caius. However, she is struck by a vision of Serah's death and her enemy takes the opportunity to strike her.
After getting rid of Caius, Lightning mounts Odin and asks Yeul to let Serah go. Unfortunately, both her and the Eidolon are swallowed by chaos. Yeul reveals that Lightning's actions are the cause of Serah's death and as she floats through the Historia Crux, Lightning is lost in her thoughts regarding her belief that protecting Etro's legacy would atone for her past sins. She came to a sole conclusion that nothing is left for her.
As she craddles Serah's body in her arms, she sees her spirit on Etro's throne. Serahs tells her not to cry and explains that it was her choice to keep fighting, knowing very well the consequences. As her spirit starts to fade away, Lightning runs towards her and suddenly finds herself in a void with Serah in her arms. The littlest Farron says that she must not give up hope and always keep her in her thoughts. They make another promise to see each other again.
To make sure Serah's memory will live on and keeping her promise, Lightning enters crystal stasis once she sits on Etro's throne.
PRESENT
As the Goddess Etro watches all the events unfold, with her last strength she decides to give all one last chance. Considering the world she knew is no more, Lightning reawakened into a foreign new world.
Role Playing Sample:
It was the second time she entered crystal stasis. The first time only lasted a few minutes. Even though they had succeeded in saving Cocoon, the weight upon her shoulders remained. What about Serah and Sazh’s son, Dajh? Now, Fang and Vanille. She could hear voices comforting her, assuring her it would be alright. However, this feeling of accomplishment one would usually get at the end of their journey wasn’t there. At all. Her efforts weren’t fruitless as they saved humanity, but she still held this selfish desire. During this adventure, all she truly wanted was to see Serah again. The former soldier didn’t feel at peace with this conclusion.
As if her prayers were heard, a familiar voice told her to wake up. Immediately, crystal dust was falling off her body and once she was able to, she gazed down at her hands. She clenched her fists a few time, trying to decipher whether or not this was only part of a dream. Lightning raised her head and reality struck her as she saw two figures running towards them. In a brief instant, her sister was in her arms.
The second time, she had done it on her own as a desperate measure. Her mind was anything but at ease knowing that Serah was endangered. Those creatures that enveloped Valhalla in a veil of darkness, what were they? Despite Etro’s strength, her weapon had done so little damage to them. She was quickly overwhelmed and Serah being too far from her reach, was taken away right in front of her. The helplessness she felt at that very moment was unimaginable.
Lightning never asked what it was like to enter crystal stasis for a long period of time. It wasn’t any of her business and she had other things on her mind. However, she did overhear a conversation between her companions and the two Pulsians. Something about constantly dreaming, they said. What she saw once she was in a crystal sleep was nothing like it. Instead of seeing a bright glowing light, her mind was invaded by darkness. Thoughts about the inevitable were running frantically in her mind, slowly driving her crazy. Old memories, but none she was too fond of, were playing in loops.
A single thought kept her sane; each passing days she could see the appearance of a small light. That was her only hope and the only words that crossed her mind were ‘for Serah’.
