In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

There's been a strange phenomenon in Twilight Town everyone! With the Heartless threat mostly neutralized, there's been a chance to relax, but the excitement doesn't stop! Several nights ago, fragments of something from the outside space itself fell from the sky, scattering itself around Twilight Town! Us Moogles have collected the material, and our friend Dueler X noticed it looks very similar to the Materia he crafts. So, we decided what better way to celebrate a victory than with a contest!
Contest Details
Starting and End Dates: September 3, 2018 - September 17, 2018
Each participant will submit their idea for a Materia to be added to Dueler X's shop, available for purchase post-event. You have creative liberty to form the power of this Materia, as well as drawbacks, appearance. and cosmetic effects upon the wielder, if any. One restriction to note is that the Materia should not be tailored specifically for your character alone, as these Materia will be available publicly when the event is over. We do encourage unique designs, but this isn't to say that current Materia can't inspire you. Summons, any magical element from Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy, the choices are endless!*
Requirements to enter the contest - 2 IC posts within the timespan of the event, an active character
The prizes for this event are as follows:
1st place - a free copy of their Materia, as well as 3,600 munny and the inclusion of their Materia in the shop list.
2nd place - their Materia put in the shop, as well as 3,000 munny
3rd place - their materia included in the shop and their choice of one free Charm
We look forward to seeing what you create, kupo! Go out there and really think!
* - Please note that the choices are not endless, and Artemicon is just very excitable. -DX
HI BILLY MAYS HERE oh jeez I am very bad at sales pitches uhh
This bad boy here is a Null Materia
I just took the dense crystal from the games so it'd fit and I'm lazy and it's like all gray and empty inside like me okay
Null is nothing. We got out basic elements in the store and some fun Final Fantasy spells, but they're all like, something. Creating something and mostly all about those buffs that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Can make a pretty drawing with all those colors. But sometimes you don't want there to be colors, but all we got right now is a box full of colorful crayons. Time for us to give lack of color its own crayon! Right?
Right?
Element of emptiness is a thing in Kingdom Hearts I think, so it'd probably fit in. This boy's all about removing things and debuffs and stuff. Maybe you can figure out a way to make it something damaging, what do I know. Our Materia have been building blocks for creativity so I'm not going to say that this Materia does this or that exactly, instead letting people come up with their own spells and abilities that could fit the theme of the Materia and their character. It can be a bit of an abstract thing, so some examples could be like, removing the sharpness from a sword to reduce its damage potential, or maybe a DeBarrier style spell to lower someone's defense, maybe something anti-magic or dispelling or something otherwise disabling.
Because let's face it, as much fun as it is to have cool skills and strengths to our characters, it gets interesting if you suddenly have to deal with a sticky situation without those abilities you normally lean on!
I don't know if you're planning to have the new Materia join the combination pool, but if you do, I think this one could have lots of neat and unique effects when mixed with other elements. Definitely could see some elemental nullification action happening and who knows what else. If we don't do combinations then I'm sure this basic Null Materia could do all kinds of neat stuff like that too! Sky's the limit!*
*Balance disclaimer about not trying to like remove all the oxygen ever or literally removing someone from existence or something, just like you probably shouldn't be using other Materia to summon a meteor large enough to destroy a planet or freeze everything to absolute zero. Unless you know, cool story end of the world stuff or a big buff bad villain or something. Let's play fair.
The star shape of this materia seems to shimmer and swirl with what might look like clouds or some milky liquid inside. Regardless, each person that holds the materia will see a dark shape inside. Sometimes it will be more defined, easily able to tell its form. Others will only see an immaterial blur that can’t be identified. For those who can clearly see what is inside, it will be different for each individual.
When used by itself, summons a familiar that takes a shape particular to each individual. For example, one user might have a familiar in the shape of a monkey, and another the shape of a gryphon, etc. When combined with other materia, the familiar summoned takes on the element of that materia.
When combined with a materia that CORRESPONDS to the summoner’s character passive, the familiar gains a weaker version of one of the summoner’s abilities for the duration of the summon.
When combined with a materia that OPPOSES the summoner’s character passive (see below for oppositions), the familiar cannot be summoned under most cases. Attempts do no more than just fizzle out and consume the materia, leaving the users dazed snd confused. In the unlikely event that a summoning with such a combined materia were to succeed, the consequences are unpredictable: in one instance the familiar might be unstable, or just simple weak and immaterial. In even rarer instances, the familiar might be stronger, with a power of the summoner flipped to match the combined materia’s element, and aggressively turn against its summoner.
Passive/Element Oppositions Earth <-> Wind Fire <-> Ice Light <-> Shadow Water <-> Thunder Cure <-> Poison Gravity <-> Reflect/Barrier
A Star made out of Cogs and Machinery parts, you could say it's very steampunk.
So the Cog Materia is a materia that allows you to summon forth machinery and machinery parts to attack or help you depending on what you summon it for. This can be things like Robots, Conveyer Belts, Turrets, man if it's a machine you can summon it hither. These things are just whatever your little CPU wants and more.
When combining the Cog Materia with others it allows for the effects of the machine to be altered in a way more suited to the Combined Materia, with Cure Materia you could summon forth a First Aid Buddy, with a Water Materia you could bring a Power Washer into existence, the skies the limit with a Wind Materia and Cog Materia in hand.
A star shaped multi-color materia brimming with elemental power.
The Rainbow Materia is based on D&D’s beloved Deck of Many Things and Pokémon Clefairy’s signature move, Metronome. Despite harboring great power within, this materia is also known for its general instability. No one can accurately predict what kind of magic will be channeled when the user taps into its power.
In-Game Mechanics:
The channeled elemental energy would be randomly chosen by rolling two d8s and summing their values. As with regular materia, the specifics are up to the RPer – e.g. rolling a 4 would result in the Rainbow Materia acting like an Ice Materia during that turn.
Additionally, using a Rainbow Materia to cast a spell triples the chances of it scoring critical values – e.g. following a d20 system, rolling an 18, 19 or 20 with a Rainbow Materia spell would result in a critical effect. This bonus stacks with any other active critical modifiers.
However, repeated use of Rainbow Materia spells in a short amount of time could result in the spell backfiring against its user. Starting with the second use of a Rainbow Materia in the same thread, a single d6 dice would be rolled following hit/damage calculation. In this instance, the user would need to roll higher than 1 to avoid a materia malfunction. This threshold would increase by 1 after every use in that thread – e.g. a fourth spell casted with a Rainbow Materia in the thread would need to roll higher than 3 to avoid a backfiring effect.
The Rainbow Materia can be synthesized with other materia, adapting its random elemental pool accordingly. For instance, if a Light Materia is used as a primary component, the resulting Light/Rainbow materia would be able to cast a random synthesized spell that uses Light as its base element – e.g. rolling a 12 here would result in an Irridescence (Light + Cure) spell. If the Light Materia is used as the secondary component instead, the resulting Rainbow/Light materia would draw its strength from synthesized spells using Light as its secondary element – e.g. rolling a 12 here would have a different effect (Cure + Light).
