In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

The chilliness of Traverse Town would take a lot to get to; Destiny Island hardly ever had dramatic weather change unless there was a severe storm to beware of. Small hands clasped onto her cloak to shield any breeze from coming in. Her new attire wasn't helping either; it was a hybrid of a white and black mage.
The black mage attire looked very much like a bustier dress. The black material with straps of blue was comfortable on the skin, but thick on the outside to oppose against light attack, while blue straps wrapped around her torso and down the dress like straps to a corset. The cloak she wore gave some layering of warmth, which was pulled over her head.
Small curls of breath escaped her lips like steam from a cup of hot chocolate. She never had such thing, but it sounded good when she paced up the pub in the First District, while she made her way to the Second. Anything warm would be good now, but Kairi couldn't find it in herself to be still. It was hard to settle in with an alien world.
Yes traveling was her dream, but it was a dreamed shared with her friends; they were her comfort zone, but the Princess took it upon herself to start her own venture to grow for them like they had for her. Just the mere thought of it all made her sighed as she leaned against the balcony of the District's second floor not so far from its door. With her chin propped up on her hand, she puffed a cloud of steam, while eyes a bang of black hair.
It made her groan noticing one of the many changes she had forced herself to endure as well as a new name to go under. Was this really what she had planned for herself to end up being alone? When she was a kid she never thought 'when I grow up I wanna be a princess and a warrior!' No, the life she has wasn't one planned, but she couldn't complain too much about it. Life would surely be a bore without it, and many had been through worse.
Seeing a glimmer, she looked up at the night sky seeing the stars in the sky. She remembered them, the other Princesses: Jasmine was pressured to be married but found her love and ended up being whisked away, Aurora has been in sleep for years, Belle was a captive, but it didn't bother none when she saw the warmth in Adam's heart, Snow White has been in her sleep for a long time too, but she still remembers the Prince she had loved so many years ago. She remembered each and every one of them including Alice and Cinderella. She wondered how were they and their worlds.
"I'm probably looking at one of them now," she muttered to herself before wondering what could be on those others speck of life. It seemed all of them were in the same position, who would've expect everything to turn into the route they had. Did the people who became heartless knew what would become of them? If they could remember their humanity, would they be ashamed?
"I'm thinking too much...," why couldn't she stay simplistic to the plan: find mentors, find teachers, get stronger, and help everyone? Why must she think about the heart of the matter, "because...hearts counts."
Still she shook her head, she didn't want to turn herself into a heartless sympathizer when there was so much for her to do.
Max appeared in the First District in a blinding flash of light from his gummi ship's teleporter. He looked around for the place where Mikael had left his spear stuck in the ground. He hadn't mentioned any specific place. He'd only been told it was somewhere in Traverse Town, and that means it could be....well, anywhere, which left a large area for him to search.
He let out a silent sigh as he looked around. In his immediate area, he didnt' see anything that clued him into it. It annoyed Max to no end that Mikael was being so childish about his survival of the Heartless attack by harboring obvious anger against him. Max didn't understand it himself. He'd be relieved to find Mikael alive if their situations were reversed.
Max pushed the thoughts out of his mind for the time being and decided he needed to focus on finding his weapon. For now, he could defend himself by simply using his ability to control water and the magic Merlin had taught him back on Radiant Garden. He intended to make full use of it all until he had that spear back in his hands. He felt like he was missing an extension of his body without it's familiar weight in his hands.
So, he searched the First District for several minutes before finally finding some kind of clue. As he searched, he found a hole in the middle of the district that went rather deep. Too deep for it to have been some kind of an accident.
"Excuse me," Max said to one of the town's residents who happened to be passing by, pointing to the hole in the ground as he spoke, "Do you know anything about this hole?"
"Oh, that? Right. Some younger guy came through about a week ago with a spear and just...jammed the thing into the ground," the man said, giving Max a somewhat questioning look as he scratched his head,"Why does it matter?"
That confirmed it for him. Max had figured Mikael had done something with the spear, although he hadn't known for sure. Now he did, though. Mikael had sent him off on a wild goose chase, the vindictive little jackass....
"It's my spear," Max said simply to the man, "Do you know what happened to the spear?"
"Uh...yeah. Just yesterday there was a Heartless attack, and one of them made off with it," the man said, pointing in the direction of the Second District as he spoke,"They went off in that direction, towards the Second District. The same group of Heartless is still there, in the Gizmo shop. Nobody's been out in the Second District since."
"Thank you," Max said, giving the man a small cordial smile and a nod of his head. He then headed off toward the gates to the district the man had pointed him towards. Once he reached them, he grabbed ahold of the latch and braced his shoulder against the large barrier and pushed hard with his legs. The large door moved slowly but steadily, the opening widening until it allowed Max to slip through and close it on the other side. Once the gate was secured, Max turned and surveyed the area.
The first thing he took notice of was a girl, dressed in a black dress with a white coat of some sort, standing at the railing of the balcony overlooking the fountain. She seemed lost in her own thoughts, and Max decided he would leave her that way, unless some reason to do otherwise came up. There was no sense in bothering strangers when no need presented itself.
However, as he thought this, a need did present itself. With a burst of darkness, several Heartless, Soldiers and Darkballs and Shadows, all burst into existence around the himself and the girl. Max reacted immediately, gathering water from the fountain and drawing it to himself over the girl's head.
"Watch out!" he said in warning to her, sending a hardened sphere of water at a Soldier as it leapt at the girl. He scanned the Heartless surrounding them and, to his surprise, caught sight of one of the Soldiers carrying his spear. The only thought that crossed his mind was that this day kept getting more and more interesting....

Regardless, I will have to get stronger anyway just to be of use...and fulfill what's been given to me, her mind wandered to her keyblade. After having it in the tight grip of her hand, she felt a compelling responsibility to fulfill its purpose. Carrying it around and not doing what it was meant for, the right thing, seemed like blasphemy; also it would go against her in so many ways such as: accepting the kidnapping of hearts, the destruction of worlds, Ansem's ploy, and Xemna's plot. Siding with them by not acting would be the worse thing possible, especially if her friends did everything in their power to oppose them.
With that, a smile cascaded across her face as she came to an agreement nodding to herself finally feeling at peace with her choices. Now all she had to do was to get started, get moving, and stop star gazing. She still haven't searched all of Traverse Town for Merlin, but many of the townspeople she ran into claimed she was going to the right direction. Still the Second District didn't have any houses to knock on, but shops and small hotel. Perhaps asking an employee at the hotel will point her in the right direction. Kairi didn't have qualms with asking for directions; no girl would want to get and stay lost.
The Princess leaned back and stood away from the balcony about to head her way, but she tensed once hearing the thick boom of the district's door closing. Snapping her head, she looked to see if it wasn't one of the faces from her memory. Brows relaxed once noting that there wasn't a tall mocha skin male with long silver hair with peircing red eyes or a tall slim woman with an angular green face and snake like yellow eyes. There wasn't any strands of spikey red or smooth blue. But her eyes did zoomed at the scars on his face. Was that an x? Not wanting to make eye contact which always initiated a conversation, Kairi turned away.
Like a pierce in her spine, her eyes widened; she could feel it.
Watch out!
Darkness was what she felt; she can feel its biting frost biting chill pulling towards her, her heart. The darkness caused a sharp silent cry from the keyblade, but it knew that its wielder didn't want it present EVER unless she beckoned it so. Still it laid dormant as a constant reminder as an option. Instead of summoning the floral Destiny's Embrace, she instinctively attacked back, "Light!"
Her stance was already defensive, but the light beamed out like a streaming bullet from her palm. A Darkball's mouth was wide open welcoming the beam before spazzing backwards. Her chest heaved as her heart raced with adrenaline; yes, she knew the dangers, but never been corned in a situation like this. Yes she had fought heartless, but she had Riku, who always had her back when there was danger in her blind spot. In short, her fighting was amateur and imperfect, which made her more nervous of her ability to defend herself, but the light glowed brightly.
Her hand started to glow again as her eyes scattered for an exit. She scanned taking notes; there were two shadows, two darkballs, and two soldiers. The shadows and soldiers were small fries, but the darkballs made her a bit weary. Everything than click with a command, "Blind!"
A bright light seperated her from the man and the heartless. Taking a chance, she jumped off the balcony only to feel her feet stinge at the impact before running off.
Max drew his sword as the Heartless faced him down. He didn't truly need the weapon, but it felt good to have a weapon drawn rather than face the Heartless empty-handed with nothing to protect himself except for his abilities. Feeling the cold steel of the weapon in his hand reassured him.
As he pulled the weapon free of its scabbard, he lunged toward the group of Heartless to his right, slicing straight through the Shadow at the front of the group and making a bee-line for the Soldier holding his spear. As he reached the small Heartless, he thrust out with his sword, skewering the Soldier through its face, letting Max's spear drop to the ground as it turned back into dark mist.
Max swiftly returned his sword to its scabbard and bent to retrieve his spear. It felt good to feel the weapon's familiar weight in his hands once more. It was almost like being reunited with a long-lost friend.
He quickly remembered where he was, however, and turned towards the rest of the Heartless behind him assaulting the girl. However, as he turned to face the threat, the girl used some kind of magic to create a bright flash of blinding light. It made Max flinch away and try to hide his eyes, spots dancing along his vision as he did so.
His vision was beginning to clear again as he felt the Heartless jump on him, their claws tearing at his armor. He refused to let the same thing happen again here. With a cry of rage at the black beasts, he gathered water and turned it to small ice blades, which he used to shred their shadowy bodies to pieces. As they dissipated into black mist, he got to his feet to see the girl leaping over the railing to the balcony, to the level of the District below. Before he could warn her, she ran off straight into the center of the district, where the Heartless presence in this part of Traverse Town was heaviest. He watched as a large group of four Large Bodies appeared around her on all sides, their near-impenetrable bellies all facing towards her. She didn't seem like the fighting type, and if so, she was in serious trouble.
Max followed her path, leaping over the railing of the balcony and down to the ground below, his boots thumping heavily on the ground as he rushed forward, bringing his spear up to strike out at one of the Large Bodies from its weak backside, and strike he did. He buried his spear all the way up to his hand into the creature's back, the spearhead protruding out from the front of the Heartless's gut by almost a foot.
As the Large Body returned to black mist like the rest of the Heartless, Max wheeled around to stand beside the girl. The Large Bodies, seeing this new threat to their meal, began pacing in a circle around their quarry. The Large Bodies were soon joined by a trio of Wyvern Heartless. This unexpected turn of events made Max very uneasy.
"Listen, don't run off like that again. I'll distract them," He told her quietly, keeping an eye on the circling Large Bodies and Wyverns,"You make a run for it, but not until I give the signal, okay?"
Max stood there, watching the Large Bodies as they began to slowly bring the circle ever inward, slowly closing on the two humans. Max watched them carefully, realizing that if the girl was going to run, she needed to soon before she got completely closed in between the Large Bodies.
"Run!" Max said to the girl as he lunged forward with his spear, running one of the Large Bodies' legs through with the weapon. Before it could do anything to retaliate, he wheeled around and slashed a Wyvern across the face with the spearhead. This was going to be an interesting fight.....

Oh no no no, she thought majority of the world problems had downed even the numbers of heartless. If this was the small proportion, Kairi didn't want to experience the real big deal just yet. These heartless were round and big. An eye twitched seeing the bounces of their bellies hoping that wasn't coming her way. Her right hand illuminated again, but flickered at the distraction from behind.
Turning her head, she saw one of the large heartless had a protruding object and ripped into a black mist with its heart fluttering back into the darkness. Her attention was drawn to it; she could've prevented that one from going back...she could've. Kairi snapped out of it seeing the Large Bodies move. She needed to get out of this one and fast. Her hand glowed white again, while she tracked the heartless' head. It reminded her of those carnival games to hit the moving objects with a ball, but this time there wasn't a comfort zone; they can strike back.
"Listen, don't run off like that again. I'll distract them. You make a run for it, but not until I give the signal, okay?"
Her brows wrinkled; already she was being told what to do, but this wasn't the best time for an argument. The princess relunctantly silently agreed with a nod. Hearing the command, she looked for an opening and went it. Once out of the heartless ring, she felt the need to turn back and look if any where after her. Instead she saw her aid being circled, and there was a new batch of heartless she hadn't noticed, a flying one.
I just can't leave, she jogged up towards the bench and stood on it to get more elevation, while her hand charged with a white light before letting it rip at a wyvern, now!
The aim was alright, but luckily with the light's polarity towards darkness it made impact. With a smile at success, she felt a little confident to do it again. Another comet of light charged at another wyvern. Kairi would've done a little victory wiggle dance, but seeing a Large Body slowly turn around at it...tossed that idea aside like burnt toast. Looking around, she noticed if she ran for it she had a long distance to get cover, but looking up she saw the balcony edge of the upper level. "I can reach that."
But how much time did she had? Looking back, she saw it began to run. Scurrying, she turned around to jump and pull herself up, "Climb, climb climb!"
If it hadn't been for the silver-white beard sticking out from the large hood, and the staff with the emerald green glow in his hand, he could have passed for any other old man in a gray wizard's robe. However, this old man was one of a kind, and instantly recognizable. Sometimes, it was a problem. That’s why he was here, sitting on the roof of a building in the second district. But he knew that fate had led him here- there was a reason for everything. So, he decided that it would be a good idea to sit and wait. His patience was rewarded and his instincts had been correct.
A princess of light came through, and not just any of them: it was Kairi. Ah, little one. I have been meaning to find you and talk to you. Something told me you might need a little teaching…
Sitting on the rooftop watching the scene below unfold, the old man shook his head and remained out of sight. He allowed a few heartless to appear within the area (as opposed to destroying them or blocking their movement,) wondering what the young princess would do in her defense. As he did so, he noticed the second presence enter the area. And Maxwell is here too? How intriguing… I wonder how he has recovered since our last encounter…
He watched the movements of the heartless carefully, making sure that nothing more powerful than a wyvern or two popped into the area. They were all attracted to the princess of light, for obvious reasons, but her basic light spell was working quite well enough that she didn’t call on her keyblade, which struck Merlin as odd. He wondered if she even knew how to use it yet.
Max on the other hand, was destroying heartless left and right, defending the girl and cautioning her tactics. He was quite the fighter, and the memory of his near death was probably still fresh in his mind. Merlin wouldn’t let it happen again while he was around, but if events turned for the worse, Merlin would be able to destroy the enemy heartless that gathered.
Turning his attention back to Kairi, Merlin stroked his beard. She seemed to be running straight toward the balcony below him, but she probably couldn’t see the fact that her ladder was blocked by an iron grate. Merlin poofed himself to the balcony, and with a wave of his left hand, unlocked and opened the barrier.
As he waited for Kairi to hoist herself onto the balcony, he noticed that a Defender had popped up near the Large bodies, accompanied by another two Wyverns and a Giga-Shadow. The Defender and the Wyverns made their way toward Max while the Giga Shadow headed for Kairi. Not wanting to chance anything, Merlin held out his arm, palm facing out.
“Take This!”
The command was accompanied by a white-hot ball of flame, the size of a Shadow heartless, which shot out and incinerated the Giga Shadow and one of the Wyverns. Merlin then snapped his fingers, and a blue bolt of electricity crashed into the Defender, with enough radial damage to destroy another two Wyverns.
Merlin smiled, but did not attack again. He had evened the odds quite nicely, and for now the two youngsters would be able to easily hold any attackers off.
Max let the girl get through the hole, knowing it wasn't big enough for them both to get through at the same time. He just stood there, watching the Large Bodies circle him and close the gap that had let the girl through. He was a seasoned enough fighter not to panic, though. He'd been in much worse situations like this and come out perfectly fine. There was no reason to believe anything else would happen here.
As the Large Bodies Circled, Max gathered a large amount of water from the nearby fountain to himself, pulling it past the Large Bodies' legs. He pulled it close and spiraled it around him, the spiral growing larger and larger as more water joined it. As he gathered the water, he noticed a Defender and some more Wyverns show up, apparently decided to join the fight, closely followed by the largest Shadow he'd ever seen. The lage Shadow honestly unnerved Max. He'd never fought a Shadow that big, and he had no way of knowing if it had any abilities that normal shadows didn't.
That was when Max saw the Shadow and Wyverns destroyed in a bright flash of fire, and a moment later the Defender was destroyed by a bolt of lightning. Max wheeled around and looked in the direction the attacks had come from. On a nearby rooftop he caught sight of a familiar old man. After a moment, he recognized him as Merlin. Max didn't know why he was there, but he was grateful for the man's help.
He pushed Merlin out of his mind for the moment and gathered the water around him into a bunch of spheres. He spun them around faster, until they were just a blur around him. Once he had them flying around him fast enough to break bones, he sent them flying out at the Heartless. The spheres ripped through them, even through the Large Bodies' hard and protective stomachs. Each of the Heartless were turned back into black mist, their hearts fluttering up into the air.
He looked around as it all dissipated. The Heartless were all gone, the girl on the balcony that ran around the edge of the district. Hopefully the Heartless would know enough to stay away for a while longer....

Once above the mayhem on the Second District floor, Kairi looked back after feeling darkness creep up her spine in a cold fiendish chill. Turning around quickly with a stumble, she noticed the Large Body that was after crashing into the wall. Not wanting to test its upper body strength and give it a chance to climb up after her, she conducted Blind and Light behind each other at its head.
The darkness wavered as the light pushed the heartless away back into its realm, but still the darkness felt more intense. Looking up she felt her legs stiffened seeing large Shadow. Her feet took a few steps back as it bright yellows eyes stared at her. Was it really coming this way? Eyes widened and the small necklace around her neck illuminated softly at the mass presence of darkness. Before her legs can snap in a run, a bright flame impacted the heartless as the darkness was singed by the attack. She stared at the pretty lights as the heartless melted and faded away.
Her heart continued to race even when the heartless was gone. Her mind reflected to the heavy storm at Destiny Islands a few years ago. Her exhale pulled her back to reality only to see pink tainted hearts still gripped with darkness flutter away back into their dark sanctuary. Those hearts would return and haunt again, but she could've prevented that, yet she had managed to stiffen over a heartless.
"What...was I thinking," Kairi whispered to herself. At once she felt uncertainty and dissappointment in herself, which evolved into frustration. A frown rippled on her face once feeling her eyes water; to pull some self-control, she dabbed them once before mentally scolding, stop stooop, don't be such a girl about it.
With a heavy sigh, she shook it off and walked over to the edge of the balcony. Now what happened to that guy? She scanned the area until she spotted him only to sigh in relief he was okay...even if she was more endangered than he was. "If he's over there, then who..."
Now that was a marvelous question that left her confused. Who attacked that large shadow?
From behind Kairi, Merlin laughed. "No need to worry, they are gone, and that young man is safe."
Stepping out of the shadows, Merlin pulled his hood down to show his face, and in the low light his eyes twinkled. Standing at the edge of the Balcony, Merlin waved to Max. "It's safe for now, Maxwell. Come on over here."
Turning to face Kairi, Merlin smiled. "It has been a while, young one. How have you been? I have been looking for you, just as I know you have been looking for me."
Merlin had seen the entire battle, and was concerned. The princess of light was reluctant to use her keyblade, which could be a big problem in the future. If one doesn't trust their heart, then they are easier to mislead. Also, the keyblade was essential to destroying the heartless. Yes, the more hearts released by the keybladers, the quicker kingdom hearts would be completed, but destroying the Heartless without a keyblade just meant that they would manifest elsewhere, and that could mean right after they were destroyed.
Merlin stood there and stared at the fountain, pondering. "Kairi, I see that you have a good grasp upon your light spells, but why do you not use your other weapons of the heart?"
Max looked over as Merlin motioned him over to the balcony with the girl. He just nodded and slowly made his way over to the bottom of the balcony and used a small platform of water to lift himself up so he could step over onto it.
"Hello Merlin," He said, planting the butt of his spear on the floor,"Thank you for the help."

Hearing Merlin's chuckling voice, Kairi leaned away from the balcony to look back at him sheepishly. Perhaps she was a bit too paraonoid. Then again who can ever blame her? Standing on her toes a bit, she peaked over to see this Max was standing in one piece. Now she can be a bit lax, since she's next to Merlin and the warrior was fine.
Looking up at him, she couldn't help to giggle mentally. He had always seemed like a grandpa figure. Although it has been a long while, it still felt warm and comforting to be in his prescence; somethings just didn't changed. She smiled up at him before answering, "I've been....holding up I guess...and..."
She didn't know how to break the ice or explain herself. Kairi didn't plan to discuss it all in front of a complete stranger, who emerged from below with the sounds of flowing water. Leaning over she looked down to see the aquatic elevator; she wanted to touch it to take her mind away from the inevitable question that Merlin asked. It cornered her in unveiling a mask he didn't see, but one she kept up for everyone else.
She rather not elaborate how she left Destiny Island from under Sora's and Riku's noses, changed her name, and even her hair to not be found by them. As for her keyblade, the princess of heart wasn't ready to make her status known. Kairi perferred having all of her ducks in a row and be prepared before being crushed and smothered by the pressure of the worlds' troubles.
"Hello Merlin thank you for the help."
"That reminds me. I should thank both of you, Merlin...and Max. Thank-you, and I'm Shio by the way," her hand stretched out to him in greeting, while hoping to avoid any questionable gazes from the skilled wizard.
Merlin smiled, nodding. Shio? never heard her go by that name before... it probably explains why she's dressed so strangely though, and why Sora isn't here, falling over himself to protect her...
"Well, Miss Shio, are pretty good at using the light to defend yourself! You've improved greatly since I last saw you around here. Have you begun to pick up any other magics?"
A nagging thought was present in Merlin's mind, wanting to ask Kairi to see her Keyblade, as that should have been the first thing she used to defend herself against the heartless, but held it at bay for now.
"If you'd like some help, feel free to ask!" Merlin bowed, and then turned his attention to Max.
"And Maxwell, How have you been? I can see that you have recovered nicely, and that you've found your spear, which is good! How are the Guardians doing?"
