(Got permission from Seph for this, who came up with the thing. Also got a pic from when he was in the war thanks to Seph.)
Name: Kwe'faln
Nickname(optional): Demon Bird, Possessed Thing, Evil Spirit, DEATH CHOCOBO!
Age: 17 as an estimate
Gender: Male
Species: Black Chocobo (Class S)
Position: Property of Sephiroth (sorta never changes)
Powers: He's fast, mean and rips things to shreds. That count?
Weapon: Come on people, he's a chocobo.
Picture(optional): Back when he was underfed, overworked, and armored to the literal teeth. (Skull helmets are fun!)
Appearance: Black and fluffy in the way only a chocobo can be. His eyes are a dull red, like the color of dried blood. He's about eight feet or so in height, and his beak is jagged, a little longer than normal. It's got a indented scar running down the left side of the beak midway where something cleaved into it and his legs are also covered in old battle scars. Like all chocobos, Kwe'faln is equipped with long talons strong enough to tear through bone and steel alike and has enough leg strength to kick down an oak tree. He's able to run at about fifty MPH for several days on end and can put on bursts of speed up to about ninety for shorter periods of time. Chances are he could outrun your car if he was close enough when he took chase.
In his younger days he was equipped with bone armor to deflect attacks, and a saddle, and steel tips to cover his talons to protect and do even more damage. Kwe'faln now doesn't have these things, it's been ten years since Gaia went away. But he still remembers everything.
Personality: He's called the demon bird for a really good reason. Kwe'faln was infamous for randomly striking down and killing people if they got too close, but he would give warning. He'll chase down and he'll hold grudges forever. His memory is perfect, and he never forgets a thing.
But at the same time he's got a loyalty that borders on fanaticism (if it's not a full-blown case of it.) He's fierce and he's vicious, vengeful and hateful a lot of the time, but there are those he'll follow to the end of the world and through hell and back. This happened when Gaia died: Kwe'faln charged through.
He's fearless. There is nothing that can frighten him. Fear is something that others have. He's one that Seph would ride into battle and completely destroy a battlefield with materia napalm, and charge right through the flames anyway to hunt down survivors. He's also frighteningly smart. This bird can figure out elevators, understand basic speech and commands and can strategize. If you remember the raptors in Jurassic Park? He's got that level of intellect. (Face it, it's not really all that different. Chocobos are omnivores which means that they do hunt and they're birds, so closer to dinos than you think. And a war chocobo's a very scary thing.)
But he's also curious and more loyal than a dog. And if you do manage to get him to accept you, he'll never forget it. He does can and will defend to the death. Beneath everything he does show affection in a warped way to people/things he likes. You just need to expect random bites.
Don't worry: he likes you if he doesn't tear that arm off for you when doing that.
History/Background: Kweh was bred from a long pedigree of world-class S-class chocobos. Actually he was originally named Kweh when SOLDIER got hold of him from the rest of the ShinRa army (because his breeder's five-year-old daughter wasn't very good with names) and was raised from a chick for war. He made his first kill while pretty much still a one-year-old fledgling. (Chocobos grow fast, they have to. But they don't really mature for a while, you can breed them early, but for the bird there's something like an adolescence that spans for about five years.)
His first owner was a third-class SOLDIER member who trained him only to depend on him and him alone. This made Kweh unbearable for absolutely anyone else, but he was trained to fight, not to be a pet.
Some chocobos are peaceful things, but it's a known fact that if you piss one off it will beat you past an inch of your life and then some. That peacefulness was gone long before thanks to Janek's 'care' and replaced with a general resentment for anything else alive
but Janek. Kweh loved Janek, and was turned completely wild when the man died in battle. SOLDIER decided that the thing had to be put down because it was just too dangerous.
But there's a problem here. This chocobo's brilliant. He's also the best of the lot they had when it came to surviving and fighting. So he fought back and he ripped open anyone who tried to kill him, and he jumped the paddock and fled, tearing down anyone who got in his way. Unfortunately one of these people happened to be Sephiroth.
This was just before the Wutai war.
He leaped high to kill. He got blocked. He swept his head down just so to attack, and got blocked again. He would have died if the people that tried to kill him hadn't stepped in and shouted. But with Sephiroth's hand around his throat, his mind clicked to Janek.
And he's been Sephiroth's ever since.
Now Sephiroth didn't use him often. It wasn't really that much that he ever really rode that demonic thing into battle or just for the sake of riding it. But Sephiroth had the sword for mounted combat, and Kweh was absolutely and entirely his.
In the Wutai war he got the name 'Faln' for 'evil spirit'. His armor was crafted especially for him from the bones of other things and from steel and various things that gave him resistances. He looked like a nightmarish thing from Hell, which really wasn't that far from the truth.
But that was then. Sephiroth wasn't there when the world went away, so Kwe'faln lost track of him. But he lived through it, took the darkness and ripped right through it. Was he gonna let that stop him? No way.
The darkness did get to him, he's a dark thing to begin with. But what it gave him was shadow-walking skills, which meant that he had his own special ability. A blue chocobo could breathe underwater. A green chocobo was mountainous. And a black chocobo could go anywhere, with reason.
But this chocobo lost the ability to breathe through water and gained the ability to walk through the darkness. The darkness didn't take him, but it warped him. He's more jagged. His beak has teeth now. The trade for this is that he's not fond of light. Sunlight, day, whatever, but any actual Light (like Sora's keyblade, for example) makes him hiss and strike back, or swerve away.
Role Playing Sample:
"Crchrrrrrl." That was getting annoying fast.
Kwe'faln churred slightly and bit at his left leg, trying to chew out the itch that had been there for about a day now. He hiss-snarled when it would not go away and pulled his head back to let the serrated edge of his beak grate against the hardened scale of the leg. Still there. With the chocobo equivalent of a disappointed rumble, Kweh'faln bit down harder and pulled sharper, and then clicked his beak closed with a snap when he ran out of beak to run his leg against. And it was still there.
Something rustled in the grass a ways away, which made him snap his head up and fasten attention. Itch completely forgotten, the chocobo watched. He stayed completely still and completely silent. The rustle didn't come again, so he stared at it some more and then went back to attacking that itch.
rustlerustleru-
"Wark!" he barked, fluffing out wings and crest and tailfeathers and lowering head to glare at that rustle. When it continued, he warked again and ran after it. Whatever rustled decided it didn't want that at all and turned the other way, closely chased by Kwe'faln.
It turned out to be some sort of rodent. A dead one by the time he got to it.
Yummy, too.
Questions? Kweh?
