Name:Song (known only by his nickname ‘Kioku’)
Nickname(s):Kioku, Kio, Kio-chan (will result in painful consequences)
Age:16
Gender:Male
Species:Human
Position: Student- currently unaware of ongoing conflict, so neutral
Powers:Kioku has a generally high intelligence, and can also work out a situation very quickly. His creativity allows him to be good at many things- drawing, writing and acting. He is also a very skilled musician, able to play five different instruments- piano, violin, organ, voice and guitar. His music can be used to invigorate people who hear it to some degree (not heal, but merely make them feel more energetic). However, Kioku’s main powers are, as his name suggests, connected to the manipulation of memories. He has the ability to remember a person’s life by merely touching them, and can cause lost memories to resurface. He can also rearrange, alter and subdue memories to some extent with the help of any of his instruments, though it is best done with piano and voice in combination. This ability, combined with his other talents, allows him to sing/play any song he hears, draw any image he has seen and imitate anyone he has met.
His abilities compensate for a peculiar condition in and around his left eye, through which he gets dark flashes, where he can see people moving slower, and can see something pink where their hearts should be. This is in actuality due to the taint of a Heartless which attempted to take his mother’s heart while she was pregnant with him. The Heartless’ hand actually passed into his mother’s chest, but was destroyed before it managed to remove the heart. This taint allows him to see in the vision of a Heartless when he is emotional- it allows him increased vision range, and can track movement faster than normal eyes so he can react at a faster pace. Although this may seem as an additional ability, because of the taint, he cannot use ordinary magic, nor can he summon anything. The remains of the Heartless also attempts to take over his body when he is fatigued, and although it is not strong enough to even coming close to succeeding, it is enough to cause him pain through headaches and migraines. Kioku is unaware of his eye’s ability or its origin.
Despite his passive abilities, he is not one to be helpless in a combat situation. He runs track and long jump for the athletics team. He is the top martial arts practitioner at Destiny Islands High School, and is part of the kendo club. Although his strength isn’t what would be considered obvious, he can hold his own in a fight with his exceptional skill and mobility.
These are a list of his trademark techniques (named after some of his favourite songs):
-_Kendo moves_-
(named after songs from Kingdom Hearts)
-‘Simple and Clean’-
Kioku twists around on one foot to deliver a strong hit to the side of the head.
-‘Hikari’-
An edited version of ‘Simple and Clean’, Kioku follows the initial hit with a hit to the other side of the head, giving the opponent the impression they are seeing lights.
-‘Passion’-
Kioku delivers an extremely fast full-body strike to the chest after a tackle-like lunge.
-‘Sanctuary’-
Similar to ‘Passion’, Kioku delivers a combo of fast strikes in rapid succession.
-_Unarmed moves_-
(named after songs by Polysics)
-‘Electric Surfing Go Go’-
Delivers two strikes to the pressure points between the shoulder joints, giving an electric shock sensation before kicking them with a full power flying kick.
-‘I My Me Mine’-
Delivers four strikes in four different parts of the body, forcing the opponent’s body into a straight, rigid shape.
-‘Black Out Fall Out’-
Delivers an aerial full-body elbow strike to the top of the head. If ‘I My Me Mine’ is used first, then chances of broken bones will be higher, due to the rigid spine.
-‘Baby BIAS’-
Delivers repeated fast strikes to solar plexus, stomach and forehead, giving the opponent a sickening feeling and flashes across their vision.
Weapon:Generally he remains unarmed, although he does own a shinai and a bokken for his kendo matches. He wears a pair of leather fingerless gloves for unarmed fighting. His main ‘weapons’ are his instruments, which he uses as a medium for his memory manipulation.
Picture(optional):Appearance:Kioku has unkempt, shoulder-length hair with several bangs that curl off from the main body, falling down to his chin. While his natural hair colour is black, he dyed it into a lighter colour to try to make himself older than he looks. It is now a soft grey colour, and although this has attracted many bullies, it has helped to become a little stronger. Although only sixteen, he carries himself in a fashion that belongs to a much older person- he walks with weary steps, and his hands in his pockets. He has jet-black eyes, which has a slightly melancholy glint etched into them, but is still quite capable of smiling. Kioku is naturally short-sighted, but doesn’t always wear his glasses since he thinks they get in his way. While his ordinary facial expression usually lazily content, his eyes harden to a much more serious texture when threatened. Although his skin is naturally healthily tanned, decreased exposure to outdoors and warm weather in general has made him much paler, into a silvery shade of grey. Kioku is of average height, and doesn’t look very strong at a glance. But he has trained his body through athletics, martial arts and kendo, and therefore has sufficient strength to manage most things that come his way. His hands are smooth and unblemished, and naturally curved with hard fingertips, due to playing his instruments. They don’t appear to have seen much hard work, due to his affinity for indoor activities rather than outdoors. Since he is generally uninterested in what he wears, Kioku has a plain white school shirt which he wears casually as well as uniform, usually worn with ordinary worn blue jeans and white trainers. He is not often seen without his trademark notebook and MP3 player.
Personality:A generally aloof and carefree youth, Kioku tends to be chronically late and is often seen running around the place in order to get to places on time. His attitude is often taken to be laziness and frankly, he couldn’t care the slightest. He refuses to get out of bed until forcibly compelled to due so, and often crawls back into it when no-one is looking. Even when he is up and ready, he is usually leaning against something with his uncovered eye half closed. When he is forced to sit down and work on a lonely desk- such as studying- he usually takes an afternoon to write five lines because his mind is distracted somewhere else. This includes reading, drawing or pissing someone off. He is incessantly late, and has broken several watches and alarm clocks, not that he ever looks at them anyway. He also seems to be socially clueless, and looks at emotions like things you might read up in a book. He doesn’t have any idea if a girl is attracted to him, and he prefers to make lots of friends rather than have a relationship that might break up. He hits a complete blank when faced with something that has anything got to do with romance, and he often places himself and/or others into embarrassing situations. Everything he says is always spoken in an off-hand way- he can say that a person is burning to death beyond the trees away in the same manner he might comment on an interesting-looking rock. These qualities are the main reason why his academia is held back so easily despite his high intelligence, and has caused his seniors to become unendingly exasperated with him, sending him near the point of expulsion on more than one occasion.
But although he may seem slightly immature and insensitive on the outside, he is actually an extremely caring person whose uncanny empathy allows him to feel the pain of others with almost the same intensity as the person themselves. He wants to become an important figure in order that he can change others lives and make sure that everybody gets help and support when they need it, and allow them to free themselves from the restraints of social hierarchy and low self-esteem. His morals are heavily influenced by the amount of bullying he suffered from when he was younger due to his different appearance and strange eye. He has a great want of helping others and making them feel content over his own happiness and is the easiest person to work with. He can make anyone feel relaxed around him and often deliberately makes a fool of himself at times in order to make them feel better about themselves. He respects those who understands him, and almost deliberately pisses off those who refuse to understand him. However, he greatly values the idea of working not only as a team, but as friends. He would sacrifice almost anything to make sure that one friend isn’t hurt. Although his laid-back, friendly attitude isn’t considered a great lookout when searching for a relationship, he doesn’t mind too much and is happy with making sure that his friends are fine. This selflessness in helping others alone while not minding himself is what makes him such a companionable person.
Despite his friendly nature, Kioku is capable of adjusting to a hostile situation. In everyday school arguments, while his politeness endures, he prefers to end them quickly with logical and often viciously blunt remarks. In a combat scenario, most of his techniques also involve quick finishes, and preventing as much damage as possible. He is not afraid of retreating when the situation calls for it for the sake of the rest of the team. All the time, he tends to remain calm and focused, always thinking about his actions. But when he is angered, while he still retains his logic, he begins to take more chances and ignore advice or his own safety. Even in his most explosive rage, taking care of his friends is still top priority.
He spends a lot of his time playing piano or guitar, singing or drawing a picture.
History/Background:[Known History]
Born February 25, Song was the eldest of four siblings. When Song was five, their family moved to a city in the Mainland, where their father hoped to further his studies in English Literature and Heart Philosophy. While his father was eager to teach him Literature, he remained adamantly secretive about his studies in Heart Philosophy. Meanwhile, Song was moved from school to school, never quite settling in anywhere, but was content with the few friends he had, and worked hard to learn the customs of his new country. While all of his family was musically talented, Song and his brother were found to be most musical, and were sent to a music school in one of the largest cities in the Mainland to further their musical career. Here, he learnt how to play the violin and piano from professional teachers, and was taught how to sing.
But despite these advantages, he considered his time at the school the worst three years of his life. He was bullied and tormented by his peers, for his different appearance and views. He had arrived late, and therefore was immediately at odds with the rest of the students, who had already grown up together for two years. His physical appearance was different from theirs, and they were merciless in expressing their displeasure in gaining a new member of their community who differed from them so greatly. All of his achievements were undermined and put down, and his sensitive mind quickly came to believe that he was incomplete, and that his skills and efforts were insufficient. Desperate to prove himself, but aware that he would be unable to shine at his current school, he put his entire mind to studying and practicing his music, preparing him for the day when he would graduate from the school and for once, start his school life from square one.
During this time, he developed his two abilities. The ability to remember manifested- initially coming as flashes of images from his past occurring frequently in dreams, to appearing during the day while he was conscious. Eventually, he learnt to calm his other thoughts and focus on his memories, although he found it easiest to do while he was playing on the piano. However, he never told anyone about it, and he thought that being able to remember like this was cheating out on his own achievements. So he hid his ability while furthering and tempering it, knowing that this gift was far too precious to just waste so easily. His second ability came through a much more painful method- through nightmares and headaches, he suddenly began to see people moving slower, with darkness clouding his vision, and pink heart-like objects glowing inside them. Thinking that it was just a strange occurrence, and that he was too tired or was using his memory ability too much, he discarded it and did not think much on it.
His life changed when family moved to Destiny Islands. Becoming a new student with other peers starting in the same position as he was, Song was finally able to start with a clean slate. Before he came, he dyed his hair and removed his glasses, in order to change his appearance as much as possible. He also ran around the island often, so that he could get his naturally weak body stronger. To fit in, he took on the name ‘Kioku’ meaning ‘memory’ in tribute to his strange abilities. When he started, he decided to try and keep as low a profile as possible, so that he would not make the mistakes he had at his old school. But he slowly grew more confident, and eventually asserted himself as a person people could acknowledge.
When people started to forget about Sora and Riku, he was able to remember them due to his ability to manipulate memories, although he remembered by accident, while he was playing the piano. After hearing that a girl in his year named Kairi couldn’t remember them (which was strange, since it was common knowledge that they were best friends), he wanted to try to help, but was too shy of approaching a girl who was so much more popular than he was, as well as fearing that the unveiling of his abilities would alienate him again. So he remained quiet, but rejoiced on his own when Sora and Riku returned.
He now leads a life as an ordinary student in Destiny Islands High School. How long this ordinary life will last is a different question entirely…
[Secret Life]
Kioku was born as a twin, cut from his mother’s womb to protect her children from a Heartless invasion on Radiant Garden. A Heartless had attempted to seize her heart, but she managed to destroy it before it succeeded. However, having her heart in such close proximity to a Heartless augmented the darkness inside it, and the taint began to spread over her body and into the twins. Being a powerful sorceress, she used the last of her strength to open a Door to Light, where she flung her children through. But because of the taint of the Heartless, both of them gained a ‘Dark Eye’, through which they are able to see through the vision of the Heartless. His brother was sent to the land of Dragons, while Kioku was sent to a similar place, but in a different world. Due to his unique birth, Kioku's body degenerated in the Corridors of Light, but reincarnated as the baby boy of a couple in another world. Kioku is unaware of his twin brother’s existence, and vice versa.
Role Playing Sample:Somewhere on the islands, in a cove where only few people knew and where even less people went, a pair of small hands drifted across the strings of a guitar. Arcane patterns resembling pointed crosses adorned the worn maple-coloured wood as the effervescent chords drifted into beautiful harmony. Kioku continued to play, his mind blissfully in tune with the music, and he sang. His voice melded with the vibrant sounds of the guitar and together, they created idyllic sounds and utopian voices. He sighed as he caressed the last few chords and he set the guitar against the rock face. Kioku looked at the watch on his wrist. His alarm for afternoon lessons should have gone a long time ago. Why hadn’t it gone? Had that little time passed already? He studied the dials on it carefully. Ten past one. It was a little strange that he had left the school at exactly the same time… even stranger that the seconds hand seemed to have been somehow restrained from ticking.
He grabbed his guitar and threw it inside its bag. He then slung it over his back, and only pausing for a moment to shift the weight of the instrument, he ran to lessons- of which the exact time he would find out had started more than twenty minutes ago. And the person to tell him so just happened to be his homeroom teacher, who was renowned for his ability to reach a vocal volume with a number of decibels that far exceeded the natural range which God had intended for his creations to reach. So when he was almost sent flying by the sonic boom which met him when he came in sight of the door, he felt that he was quite fortunate that his teacher had a bad cough today.
