In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Out in the Great Maw, a young man was making his rounds. He appeared to be doing it efficiently, but his face showed that he'd rather not be there.
Shudin Darcana was anything but happy today. Before coming here, he had tried getting himself a Gummi Ship... However, the people he tried borrowing them from denied him. Most of them didn't think his cause was worth losing their ships for an unknown amount of time. "Not worth it?" the young man grumbled, drawing out his sword, and walking with a hurried step.
A Shadow appeared, and creeped up to attack Shudin. He noticed, and swung his sword heavily at the Heartless, destroying it. "My sister...." he said,"Is more than worth it..."
Five minutes later, Shudin had come to a cliff that gave him a good view of the rest of Radiant Garden. He glared at it as he swept his blue bangs out of his face. Why don't they understand?
Three more Shadows appeared. Shudin turned to face them, and cut them down, taking out his rage on the creatures. I can't be trapped here....
Quite the interesting scent had caught Ruold's fancy. A Heart shining with light, and tainted by darkness. "Oh, Master Ansem will take a liking to this one. But, perhaps... a little fun, first?" The minor Heartless weren't of his calling, but they most certainly had followed their instincts to a formidable Heart. 'Feeling' that there was a more.... elegant way to steal a Heart from someone, he decided to walk up to the young man. After all, one such as him could be of some use...

Taking out the last Heartless, Shudin caught sight of someone in his periphial vision. He turned to face the man, but kept his sword drawn.
Black, mid-length hair, semi-formal clothing, and eyes that seemed empty.... Shudin was sure he'd never met this man. Still, it was no reason to attack.
Ruold sighed at the young man's informality. It simply wasn't polite to have a weapon drawn in front of another, an innocent spectator no less. It's not as if he was the former, but still. As the armed figure in front of him inquired his name, Ruold wondered if he should be known by his real name to the boy. Nevertheless... "I'll be known to you as Alkana. Now, it's only right that you speak your name as well. However, I have another question that you may answer in its stead: What do you seek in life?" Simple, yet captivating.
The stranger sighed before introducing himself as Alkana. Shudin flipped through his memory briefly, but was certain he'd never met anyone with that name. As a precaution, Shudin kept his blade drawn.
The young man was about to introduce himself, however, the stranger continued to speak. "Now, it's only right that you speak your name as well. However, I have another question that you may answer in its stead: What do you seek in life?"
What do I seek in life? What kind of question is that? But then, Shudin thought about it for a moment. He was seeking his sister... but, beyond that..... "I seek the freedom and power to protect others..." he answered, unflinching.
"I see. Quite the burden you take upon your shoulders." It was Ruold's policy to keep things as brief as possible. And, with certainty, this was an entity whose power remained untapped. With his potential, many things could be accomplished; Ruold could discern this by scent alone. "However... let's see if you're worthy... or man enough for this task." Spreading his arms at waist length, Ruold summoned Charades and Macabre Mantle. The former, in orbs, circled about him, and he wore the latter like a writhing glove. "I felt as if you wanted a fight. And here you have one...!" Casting a Stop spell on the area, Ruold quickly darted out of the swordsman's field of vision, and launched a Thunder-based attack with Charades.
As Alkana summoned his weapons, Shudin took a battle stance, about to charge at him. However, in what seemed like the blink of an eye, the strange man was nowhere to be seen. In his place, however, was one of his weapons, flying straight at him, charged with electricity!
Whoa!
Shudin raised his blade to block the attack, however, the weapon glanced off it, and struck the young man's left shoulder, leaving a small cut, and a sting. "Grrh... Where are you?" he called out, "Show yourself and fight!"

Being as Tricky as he was, Ruold thought that it wouldn't be any fun if he just came out of hiding. He let his voice echo around the valley: "Very well. A test, first, for you..." A snap of the fingers resounded throughout the Maw, and a mob of Heartless appeared. Most of them were his preferred type, with a few Neoshadows here and there. As a mental command ushered them to attack the boy, he watched and thought of all the plans that could be carried out. "After all... I have to see if you're the right one." Darkness swirling and converging near Shudin, Ruold popped out of the Corridor of Darkness, and turned his Macabre Mantle into a shield of shadows. Number Ten was not one to assume, but this one had proven himself quite hostile.
At the snap of a finger, Heartless appeared around Shudin, and attacked. A few were Neoshadows, while the others were some cousin of the Soldier variety. Both of these types of Heartless were a quick attackers, leaving Shudin with the option to block for the time being.
For a minute or two, Shudin hadn't been able to do anything else. However, he began to sense a pattern to their attacks, and found an opening. There we are! After blocking one of the Neoshadows attacks, Shudin immediatly sountered with a spinning swing with his sword, eliminating a few Heartless, and pushing back the others.
With a little bit of breathing room, Shudin went on the offensive, picking off a few more Heartless before they began to attack again. Once more, he took up the defensive. However, this time, he noticed Alkana nearby, watching. Apparently the Heartless had no interest in him. So he is controlling them... But how?
Distracted by his thoughts for a moment, one of the heartless managed to strike him from behind. In retaliation, Shudin smacked the creature with the flat of his blade, sending it through the air towards Alkana.
Ruold wasn't very threatened by the Stealth Soldier flying towards him; he simply opened a small Corridor of Darkness, and his peon was on its merry way. Number Ten knew now that this one would be perfect... at least, in terms of strength. Although, it wouldn't really matter, seeing how he'd be more influenced if he was less intelligent; Ruold really hated it when his personal 'interests' conflicted with Dark XII's goals. Either way.... he sent three of his next-favorite type of Heartless, the Black Ballades. Surely a fighter must have some wit? "After this... I'll know for sure. And then, your final test will determine whether you get what I have to give..."
As Shudin cleared the rest of the Heartless, three more appeared. They were a black variety of the musical spellcasters. However, these ones didn't do much.. they just floated there...
"After this... I'll know for sure. And then, your final test will determine whether you get what I have to give..."
Another test? Looks easy...
Indeed, it did, until the three Heartless split up into a total of 15, divided into three circles. Out of a slight panic, Shudin struck at one of them, but felt a sharp pain in his chest from doing so. The Heartless, on the other hand, appeared to suffer nothing. What the?!
Shudin tried striking another of the new Heartless from a different circle, but acheived the same result. Needing a new strategy, he stood, and watched them, keeping his guard raised. They all looked identical, and none of them attacked.. However, Shudin noticed one jumped. It's worth a shot.....
Shudin darted forward, and attacked the Heartless he saw jump. This time he suffered no pain, and the entire circle vanished. "Alright!" he said, triumphantly, before repeating the process with the other two groups
Ruold was somewhat impressed. The young man had managed to defeat all of the Black Ballades he sent forth. However, most didn't rush in as he did, and waited things out before noticing their weakness. "Now, about your prize... I don't think such a broad goal would be taken up by one such as you. I believe you have another target. Regardless if I'm right..." Ruold walked in the swordsman's direction, and, brushing past him, palmed his heart. In the process of doing so, he gave the wielder a minute amount of power with Darkness. "You want strength, I can give it."
As Alkana brushed past him, Shudin felt something change inside him. It was as if something had been released from one of many chains. It felt... good. It made him feel stronger.
"You want strength, I can give it."
As Alkana said this, Shudin saw a dark aura engulf his left hand momentarily. "What have you done?" he asked, "What do you want?"
"I want nothing more than to assist you in your goal. Now, a demonstration; this is, on a grandiose scale, what you can do with such a gift." Raising the hand cloaked in a seething shawl of shadows, he straightened it, and launched the writhing Darkness into a huge rock, shattering it to pieces. Hopefully, that'd be instruction in the fact that Darkness was quite formidable. However... in his current state, the young man hadn't a chance of going through a Corridor of Darkness intact. So, it was settled that the two would simply have to wait for the shadow of his heart to fester and grow. "All in good time."
A grim smile appeared on Shudin's face as he watched Alkana's display of darkness. The thought that he could have such power at some point appealed to a tiny voice in Shudin's mind. I'd have nothing my way....
Alkana then disappeared, leaving the young man alone to his thoughts. If it has the power to destory, it has the power to find..... Shudin looked down at his left hand, remembering the dark aura that had engulfed it. But everyone's said darkness only consumes.... The young man then reminded himself about his sister. It won't consume me... I'll master it!
The grim smile returned to Shudin's face as he began to walk back towards the town. He was in a better mood than he was when he left. Sure, he still wasn't able to leave this world, but he knew he'd have it soon enough.
