In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Right now we're conducting a test/experiment in how to improve our battle rps for a better experience. Overall it takes too long to conduct something that's naturally fast-paced. With the wait for posts and what not, the momentum slows down.
We shall test a different scenarios and what not, but RIGHT now we're testing out a one-on-one scenario via IM.
Who's ever willingly shall be paired up with Aryn. YOU MUST have some form of Hotmail/Windows Live messenger to try this out. Those who are interested in being ginuea bigs you can post here for future tests.
Please be an experienced member (with a character) here, meaning that you know how WD roleplays and what not. I do not want a poor testing experience based upon poor battling skills (which includes excessive godmodding.)
/I may just hold Aryn hostage throughout these test as a constant on-looker of. She pretty much brought this up and knows what we're trying to work towards.\
Ellie posted a link to our rp "A Heart Not Your Own" which features the MSN chat battle. It's a little bit messy, but it gets the job done and moves along the fight part. I'd say for a first test, it went really well. I really want to see how it can smooth out an rp between three or more people.
Alright, next test between three or more members, then. If anyone has something like this coming up in a thread of theirs, but that hasn't actually started yet, feel free to volunteer.
I'd be happy to hop in as a mod this time around. Lets see if we can work out kinks in that form of play.
I'm liking the Aryn's and Syn's presentation of the chat battle, to fit in the thread. -nod-

Oh! I didn't notice the change in text color. Silly me.
Anyway, you call it messy, but in a way, I say it's a lot cleaner. I was reading through previous battle posts, and the only thing I could thing was "why are they writing so much for one or two actions"? The posts spend more time on the thoughts and motives of the characters. That's a plot post, not a battle post. I understand the advanced level of this forum, but in battle, there's no time for all of that. It distracts from the main point of the plot. Which is, crudely, "beat the crap out of the other guy, and hope he/she doesn't do the same". The IM thing works great for one or two people, but when you get something big, like the Destiny Islands battle, then it gets really tricky.
What I'm about to say is going to be sacrilege, I know, but I feel it needs to be out there, even if others might call me a heretic: purposely shorten the posts. It can still be on the forum without having to do a meet up time for the players. (Which can still lead to schedule conflict) Not only that, but if it is shorter, then people might come on more often to keep it going. If there's more emphasis on the action, one or two sentences on the reason for the action, and the character's facial expression to relay the thoughts of the moment, then it will be a lot easier. Trust me. I'm a doctor. (no, really, I'm not, disregard that.)
Anyway, I think the experiment best demonstrated that. It's just an idea, and my own opinion I wanted to put out there... Unless the test itself is actually just shortening the posts, not doing everything over IM like I inferred from the first post of this thread. In which case, disregard everything I said.

People are already encouraged to go with shorter posts for battles if it increase speed, and many do. However, many also find themselves wanting to type more once they start. They go a few steps ahead most of the time - like multiple lines of IM - and leave room for others to respond to that while moving ahead with action.
But people don't really sit and wait for RP partners to finish typing anymore, so they can immediately respond. Therein lies the speed problem, hence the IM idea, where you've got the person on the other end responding consistently.
Nobody wants to put 'keep battle posts short' as a rule, though. At least, I wouldn't. It is already allowed, if that was what you were speaking for.
To be honest lately I have been letting go of long posts. Especially with battles. It simply doesn't make sense to chain together attacks and defends- smaller, more defined posts are more appropriate. So maybe it's better that large fight scenes are done in a group chat, to be posted all together.
I think we should keep this active. It's too bad we don't have a designated chat area for this kind of thing. xD If we put it in an IC chatbox I am sure it would get overrun by purposes other than the ones it was built for.
Yes, it plans to be an option available if these tests work out. However, the choice to use the chat method in threads will be up to the RPers. Just as it is their choice regarding post length.
