In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Well, I had to make sure tomorrow was Halloween and not April 2nd when I heard the news, but a quick fact check and sure enough; Disney's buying out George's baby for just above what it got Marvel for.
Do a quick google check to see for yourself, there's quite a few versions of the press release out there.
They've confirmed release year of Episode VII, and planning for VIII and IX feature films. Not to mention TV shows, games, ect.
At first I was kinda mad. I'm one of those fans that at heart wants the legacy of the first six to stand alone (okay the first three, really, and then the most recent one was at least better than Episode I and II). But then I remembered that Star Wars has been open-fandom for ages. Writers are permitted to write and publish in the canon, broadening the universe to ridiculous proportions. So now that Lucas is planning his retirement, I can suddenly agree with him wanting his films to surpass his own lifetime and expand to their full potential. Seeing the success of Avengers, I also think I can trust that Disney is going to do a fine job. It kinda has to. These fans are gonna be at the Walt Disney Co's throat otherwise. xD
So I've gone from disbelief to denial to excitement. What about you guys?

Yeah it's so hard to say that the original VI and by that I mean the original three and then the three other ones that no one should ever talk about are even "stand alone" when basically the equivalent of fanfiction has been published and considered part of the canon? Man I don't even know.
I don't know how I feel about this whole "Disney buy-out" either. I just... argh. I didn't care about the Marvel thing because I'm not a huge Marvel fan, but I love love love Star Wars. Like, a little bit too much. i even kind of like the prequel movies even (and I like Episode I so please don't kill me omfg) So... I dunno. I like the stuff Disney churns out a lot of the time, but Disney's also this huge and kind of poisonous corporation that I really don't like. Hnnng. I don't really want to see more movies released in the canon, but they have the potential to be better than the disastrous prequels (even though I like the prequels a little bit I have enough logic to say that they were pretty terrible movies).
On another note: Since Disney bought the whole Lucasfilm corporation or whatever, we all realize that that means Disney owns Indiana Jones too now, right?
i kind of wish they hadn't kept george lucas on as consultant though because i really don't like him he utterly effed up the prequel movies like the only reason the originals were so good was because steven spielberg really had a huge - and for the most part undocumented - hand in them
Yeah. Disney needs to draw the line somewhere. And I, too, liked some parts of the unspeakable Episode I-III. xD If they give us a whole new story, something dark, maybe, I'll hold any judgements of them and VII until it gets closer to 2015.
I don't mind Lucas as a consultant. He'll keep things canonical, and won't be in any position to make stupid executive decisions. Han shot first.
Aware they've got Indiana now, too, but I'm not sure where they can go with him besides merchandise and maybe an animated TV show. Ford is just getting a little old. But with Disney, if there's a whim there's the money and therefore a way. So who knows?
Han totally shot first that is not even up for debate
Yeah I'm not entirely sure what they'll do with my our beloved Indy, but probably not nearly as much as what they have the ability to do with Star Wars.
Also, on a different note, I've read the original Star Wars books - what Lucas wrote around the same time as the film was being shot, because the idea as the book by itself wouldn't sell. I would not recommend reading them. Lucas is a horrid writer and it's so blatantly misogynistic. Ugh. Do not like that man.
Also also... Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts... that's such a huge universe to incorporate into another huge universe with different laws and such. I had a difficult enough time working out the whole "Treasure Planet had characters that went to different planets wtf are world borders lol" issue; I can't imagine doing that on the sort of grand scale with Star Wars. I can imagine if it's ever integrated into Kingdom Hearts we'll have hella mess on our hands.
worse than the time travel shiz we got goin' on now
Star Wars doesn't have to be in Kingdom Hearts as Birth by Sleep was basically the prequal movies. Eraqua was akin to Mace Windu, Xehanort was Palpatine/Emperor, Aqua was Obi-Wan, Terra was Anakin, Ventus was...Yoda...idk who Ven is supposed to be. Oh and Vanitas is Count Dooku who Xehanort/Palpatine just used as a means to an end goal.
Now on the actual topic, this will be very interesting to see how Disney handles this.

Yeah I'm too sleepy to read all the posts above. I heard about this Tuesday with my animation fam going 'DA FAQ DISNEY TAKEN OVAAA' which isn't surprising; I think there are 4 main companies that have siege over television like Disney (who owns ABC, ESPN, A+E, Disney channels, hell Disney world and lands, Beauna Vista, Touchstone, Pixar, relations with Ghibli, Marvel) and Time Warner.
So seeing how TV is already monopolized by four main companies with a shit load of subsidiaries they bought; it's not that surprising. Also The Avengers was green light before Disney bought it, so Disney wasn't even involved in the development before it was set in stone that it will be released in 2011. Just a little tidbit there. And personally the Avengers was just Robert Downey Jr. and friends with sfx orgy.
Aaaaand star wars already had a tv show before this and that was on Cartoon Network; they had their lego games and what not, so it's not like that series had been overly exploited as is. How my prof Ron stated, "They can't do anything worst." Just expect it to be in your face.
After Tron Legacy, a new tron world is barfed into KH and...a Tron tv series is made. After the Iron Man movie, we have Iron man kiddy tv series. If it sells, it will fly. Also since Disney 'owns' it, I'm sure they'll have middle mens to handle it' subsidiaries, so just hope those people have common sense. Technically at the end all Disney does is either "demand a particular story or movie to make", "give the money to whoever to do it", and "slaps their name in invisible ink on it." I doubt we'll start seeing Tinkerbell flying through to introduce Star Wars. So it's 'theirs' but it's not like they'll have 'that much direct involvement' in it.
The only stigma is that...shitty ideas will produce shitty shit as if the creative pool is spread thin. It will bug me if it just become so consumerism that...the creation is just pushed out there to make money not because it was interesting and fun route to explore and create.
Like that Tron tv show shit, like who gives a damn the story is in an irrelevant timeline before Tron Legacy. Who cares if they tried to fight Clu? Obviously they failed becaaause Clu was still up a running to be a douchebag in Legacy. Star War: Clone War cg tv series (2008) ...I heard was the most boring timeline. (I'm not a star wars fan so ..chaaa). If it was the least interesting...and you already had a 2003 2D version of it, then...why...make it?
