In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

All fights take place on the Game Grid. NO BREAKING THE GRID!
Being materialized into a computer world was... well... it was certainly an odd experience. After arriving into this computer world, Ikari took a look around. This place was definitely different than anything the fire user was used to. Considering that she was basically in a computer, she couldn't really be blamed for seeing this as different and feeling a tad odd about it. She was surrounded by a grid of some sort, and her clothes had taken a drastic change. She now had a clear visor that shielded her eyes and her clothes were an odd black and blue combination with electric blue designs... not exactly her forte, but it wasn't like she could change it.
Taking Dragon's Flame and resting it on her shoulder, Ikari looked to Leon. So that's who she had to fight first? Great....
"I hope this going to be a fun fight, Leon!" Ikari said with a smirk.
Even though she was giving him a smug look, she couldn't help but wonder where his weapon expertise was. Ikari was also not feeling so confident... Leon was almost slightly less than over half her age, which meant that he most likely had much more experience with whatever weapon he was going to be using. There was also magic... Ikari could only use Fire, Fira, Firaga and Thunder. It was safe to say that magic was undoubtedly not her strongest point.
Yeah, Leon would agree on that one. Being digitized certainly was... odd. But a lot of like just switching worlds and not being downloaded right into a giant computer main frame. There wasn't any real difference in sensation or even much of one in term of what ones was capable of. Interesting was a good word for it, anyways. But a tournament right here in Garden was easier than traveling to the Coliseum. Sated that need for the heat of battle.
So, the girl, huh? Tch. Kids these days. This was going to be just too easy.
Leon had the distinct feeling that either the worlds' times were reversing on the people or he was just getting old. And if he turned out like Cid, he would rather just shoot himself and kick the bucket right and early.
Setting his thoughts aside, rolling his shoulders under the electric near-maroon-lined-over jacket as he regarded Ikari critically, dragging Lionheart from his shoulder lazily, calmly, double checking the chambers. It was habit, really. She was right about that. He'd been training since he was five. So young, building up, straining to keep up with SeeD's expectations. His was a rare weapon indeed. And while he'd thought of bringing Revolver instead of the mysterious blue-glowing blade within his hands now, Leon felt more comfortable with Revolver's weight in his hands, consider it all. But Lionheart was lighter, lacking the bulk of the other model. It had its downs, meaning no sniping from across the grid, however...
It was hardly used. There for, it was difficult for anyone to predict what was possible. Something Leon relied on. But unpredictable. It gives you the upper hand.
And it wasn't often that Leon passed any true facial expressions; this was no exception. However, one side of his mouth quirked up. An almost smirk. Leon really didn't have to worry about playing with fire. He wasn't likely to get burned.
From the judges' area, Sephiroth remained where he stood, tall, proud, and bored, watching the arena. This whole endeavor was pointless...
How did he get dragged into this again?
The game grid had practically nothing in the way of cover; the landscape, detailed through lighted gridlines, was flat, stretching until the grid bent sharply upwards at a perfect 90° angle to detail walls. There was quite a good amount of space for running and dodging, if need be, and the walls stretched high. All spectators were far above the actual match, safely contained within an 'invisible wall' that would repel any combatant that managed to somehow, against all odds and physics laws, jump high enough, or, more plausibly, any projectiles that ricocheted.
Closing her eyes for a split second, Ikari took in a deep breath to calm herself. There was no way that she was just going to rush into things. She didn't know Leon's fighting style, and perhaps her tactic at first was to dodge (if she could) and run around a bit, analyzing his moves. But... there remained something else. What if that was his tactic against her? Then the battle may take too long. Ah well, may as well see who made the first move.
A lot of people didn't know Leon's fighting style, save maybe Cloud-- they sparred and fought together enough. Again, unpredictability was a saving grace, on top of a weapon no one really knows how to deal with.
Hm. So... fist move? So it would seem. Start things off simple. He was twice Ikari's size, probably physically stronger, if not magically so. Likely odds of losing? Low.
Leon shouldered Lionheart and raised a hand, palm outward, shoting a simple Fira spell from it. Lets test reflexes. See what happens.
Hah! A Fira spell? Playing fire with fire seemed like fun to Ikari. The thoughts rolled back in her mind; Fira was a strong enough fire spell that perhaps when used against each other, it'd create an explosion. Hmm... sounded... exciting. Raising her left arm, Ikari focused her mana and shot the same spell at the oncoming Fira spell that had been cast by Leon. She watched as her own spell raced towards Leon's own, her legs braced and ready to dart away due to the distraction of an explosion.
Improvisation was one of Ikari's stronger points, and if what she had planned didn't work? Well, she supposed that there was always something else to plan. Speed and strength were also two of Ikari's blessed talents. Due to the fact that she wasn't skilled with magic, training her body to be strong enough to endure certain attacks and quick enough to evade getting hit was a necessity when she was traveling the other worlds.
As long as Ikari avoided using her Thunder magic, things would probably be copacetic. There was no way that she was going to let her Thunder spells slip up and backfire against her... besides, it'd totally make her look the fool. A girl that couldn't even control a basic, level one Thunder spell? Yeah, she'd be made fun of by others that were more advanced in magical abilities than she was. Best to avoid that.
Leon himself, really, wasn't much for magic. He didn't really have any skill with it. Rather, it was a complex system. Fire was something he was in tune with-- resistance to on a rather great degree. But other wise? No. He couldn't master anything else, no matter what he tried. Cure? For get it? Thunder? Yeah, if you wanted static cling the rest of the day. Ice? ...you're kidding right? That stuff stung.
And for a moment, the man let himself smirk a bit. She was a kid, sure, but by the looks of it, smart, a quick thinker, strong for her age. A challenge, then.
The explosion was nothing. Sure, it charred some of his clothing, mostly Leon's shirt, but he just used that for cover, diving straight through, holding his breath. Would not be good to breath that in. Not even in a virtual scale, really. Lionheart at the ready, blunt side ready to come down right across Ikari's shoulder if she wasn't careful.
Great! The Fira spell countering the oncoming Fira spell was a success. Wasting no time, Ikari had raced away from where she was to around Leon, hopefully trying to get behind him without him taking note of this. However, the distraction of the explosion didn't last long either. Once the two Fira spells met, it'd be a quick, five second explosion, tops, before it just faded into nothing and the grid was clear once more.
Eh? Wait a sec, it didn't look like Leon stayed in the same spot he was either. Letting out a slightly irritated scoff, Ikari saw that he had charged through where the explosion was to get to her. Hmm... this may be a little harder than it already looked.
The fire-user quickly sheathed Dragon's Flame, having the weapon out would just slow her down at the moment. Besides, she wasn't close enough for melee combat. If only she could get close enough to headbutt Leon... then most likely things would go her way... maybe....
Ikari sighed in the amount of time that she had, not wanting to let her guard slip. She was trying to improvise something else now, a way to get close to Leon. If she could outsmart him, then that would be a success all by itself... even if she did eventually lose. Hm... decisions decisions.... What would she do now? There were a lot of things that raced through Ikari's mind, in the short amount of time that she stood in the spot that she now was.
Fireworks.... Fireworks?
"No idea why I'm thinking of--" Ikari muttered a little irritably before the gears actually clicked in her mind. Fireworks! Ikari had always made her own using a combination of Fire and Thunder spells... and due to the fact that it was only a small charge from the Thunder spell, it wouldn't backfire on her, though it would prove for a good time within the grid
Giving a slight smirk, the girl focused both types of magic. Hearing the satisfying, small crackle of the lightning that formed, Ikari balled her fists and charged towards Leon, fists at the ready.
...and apparently fast. Hmph. Looks like you'll have to up the pace, Leonhart. No time for slacking. the flash fire, sure, as long as it had lasted, was enough cover for her-- enough, unfortunately, for her to gain his attention. There was no smoke, considering there was nothing to burn. Just the swirl of orange and red and golden flames. She moved. Completely not where Leon had left Ikari be. Big mistake. Stay moving, stay sharp; a moving target is one that's harder to hit.
The gunblade was a unique weapon, that much was sure. Other than the exception of a way-ward Nobody, Leon had never seen another; not the slightest bit of evidence that someone from his own world had survived. Not surprising, circumstances forgiven. However, the blade was the best of both wolds, if used properly. Range, with the exception of Lionheart, which didn't have Revolver's shoot-you-from-across-the-battle-field capability. On the one hand, there was the mechanics of a gun-- the feel of gun oil, powder, bullets, metal, so many things to associate with it. Fire arms themselves took a great deal of time and training to perfect. Leon couldn't count the times he'd found himself in a low-lying spot, rifle in hand, ready to shoot anything that crossed his sights, practice or not. But on the other hand?
On the other hand, there was the blade aspect. Fire arms were simple. Sure, it took a great deal, but there was a lack of finesse from it, compared to a blade. Both had so much to remember, but blades took a bit more grace, despite the gunblader's preference towards the first of the two categories (something so satisfying about the pride of being able to take out a target from where nothing else could). Either way, something like Lionheart took many years to get the feel of. And most importantly, it was an oddity and especially good for speed and precision. It gained what any normal firearm did, and out-showed any normal sword.
Sheathing her weapon? Bold. But the weight was the same, no matter what. Hand to hand combat was simple enough of a concept. It was familiar. Easy to maneuver with-- Leon knew it as safe territory just as much as anyone else who'd trained so extensively in being balanced, above all else. Versatility was the key often.
Granted, Leon, had he indeed had Revolver, sacrificing range for dexterity in this case, would have used those split seconds to end it all right in the here and the now. He quickly regretted that decision-- Lionheart had missed the initial target, and the pause to evaluate had cost a bit of valuable timing.
The fire, again, didn't hurt. It was the charge, the lightning, that made the brunet jerk, hissing, but taking the hit rather than dodging was better than wasting valuable time. Ikari caught Leon half-swing of his body, frame knocked back a step by the hit, but it was luckily with his right-- not his strong side, contrary to what people could observe. Fighting with the right left his strong left open, and Leon used that to his advantage. the right foot to drop, left arm spread out to catch himself, Lionheart up to use as a shield, the blue seeming-crystal capable enough, before snapping one strong leg out to sweep Ikari's right out from under her. Given that it was timed right, anyways. If not? Well, then there was always the option of keeping close.
Bold of her to be sheathing her weapon? Perhaps... but if she was going to be running around, there was no point in having a nice pointy object swaying away in her hand every time she ran a step forwards; Dragon's Flame would just tire her arm out faster. Sheathing her weapon for that reason was practical.
Luckily, a blow landed on Leon... however... the fire had no effect on him. The lightning though... that seemed to have made the gunblade user wince a bit. Giving a small smirk of satisfaction, Ikari was about to swing again... that was until she found herself hurdling towards the ground. Leon had swept her leg out from under her!
Landing on her right side, the female fire user let out a grunt of pain and rolled onto her back. Indeed, this was going to be a challenge... but it was fun, Ikari admitted that much. Swiftly staggering back up to her feet, Ikari hopped back a few feet rather clumsily and gave Leon a smirk. No, it wasn't a mocking smirk... not in the least... instead, it was a smirk to show that she was actually enjoying herself.
But... now what? Fire had no effect on Leon that the raven-haired girl knew of. There was always the plan of using Thunder, but at what cost?
At least the fall hadn't badly encumbered Ikari. She could still move quickly if the situation called for it. For now... she needed a new plan... and what she would do? That wasn't something Ikari planned quite yet. Clenching her fists in thought, Ikari furrowed her brow and gave a slight irritated, thoughtful look.
While sheathing her weapon smart, Leon didn't have that luxury. Not that he needed to. Revolver was much heavier than Lionheart. But Leon wasn't a fool, either. He'd always been good at hitting weak points, and Ikari's? She was just a flourishing fighter. Good, but not just there yet. He himself would never quite have the skill others may have. It was how things went.
But that was a weakness there-- if you plan, you lose time. React. Don't think. Observe, and you'll simply know.
Smirk all you like, Ikari...
And for a second, Leon's mouth tipped somewhat again, the vaguest of a return smirk.
Using the momentum of the sliding kick the gunblader had made, gis thumb immediately went for the hammer of Lionheart, cocking it back. It was surging, the familiar feel of energy. Always there when he called, when he needed it, and his muscular body was rocketing off the ground in a low, crouching stance, drawing Lionheart down-- not right at Ikari. No, that'd be a waste. Heat was licking the edges of the gunblade, mixing with the crystalline blue. A report, and all that came was the immense inferno of Blasting Zone crashing down in a large wave of destructive force. Aimed right for the ground near the girl's feet.
