Thanks! Here, I'll break it down for you! That way other people can give it a try, too! ^^
Step 1: Start with a basic image. Just a plain photo, or picture or drawing. Think about the color-scheme/theme you want! Usually, I'll got into photoshop, adjust it so that there are less flaws with the lasso tool (like blurs that don't fit, things like that) and then go "image" > "adjustments" > "select color". This'll give it a more vibrant set of colors.
So
this pic becomes like
this one here (with a little bit of adjusting on the contrast and saturation to make it a little bit smoother).
Step 2: Finding or making a good texture! This should be automatically set to a different layer, if you just copy-paste (or drag) it over the base image. Either one that fits the scheme or goes against it completely, whatever you feel like. In this case I used
a bronzed texture to give it a metalic/paint feel. Set the opacity to 100% with the "Hard Light" mode to the layer, and you get
this effect.
Step 3: I usually add another texture for a little more oomph. Not always, but in this case, I'll go ahead! There are placed to download "brushes" for photoshop. I just took to paint splatter brushes. The
important part of this is to remember that this new layer changed properties depending on if it's
over the "bronzed" texture or under. Usually, the accent textures should go under, so that the color scheme isn't off.
I usually set this layer to an opacity of 57%, so it's visible. You can play with the layer mode, to find what you like more, but this one is set to "Darken". It turns just the bronzed edit to
something more accented. I'll sometimes leave it alone, but I like to add text to stuff just to pass on little messages, or just because it looks cool.
Step 4 (optional): This is usually my final step (easy, huh!). This is the step where I add in text! Or maybe other images to add to it over all. So it's an optional step. If you're going to add text, you can just pick a font, type what you want, and play with opacity/layer mode to try out different effects. Or you can even find something called "text textures". Textures that... uh... text! But you can edit the image of it like a normal texture layer!
In this case, I've just used regular text, using the text editing photoshop to slant it a little bit. It's still set under the bronzed layer with full opacity, with the "Linear Burn" layer mode.
And now you're done!
Here's the finished product!I know this requires a lot of understanding about how photoshop works.
Sadly, the one thing I haven't figured out how to do is put together a comprehensible tutorial. I hope it at least gives everyone a good idea of my usual process of things! And I encourage everyone should give it a try if they want!
