In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Ok this is probably gonna be stupid but mlegh.
My thought was, My character is a nobody, He has dark powers and what~not, He doesnt know he's a nobody. He wants to be Good but all his powers are dark. So the question is what is he?
If all of someones traits are darkness can they still be light?
Alright, I know this point's been made before - and if some people notice this *coughSephcough* they'll put it more eloquently than I can. But simply put, light and dark are not the same as good and evil. Light and dark are something akin to elements - fire, earth, wind, water, etc. "Good" and "evil" are points of view. Nothing's clear cut. (Nothingness, however, is a tad more complicated. ^^)
Basically, yes. Your character can have dark powers and still work for what he thinks is good. Just like Sora can use an ice spell, but so can Vexen. However, there's still the question of what "good" and "evil" really are. Who's to say?
Shades of gray, the colors I find, when I look to the enemy lines...
Obviously in reality good and evil are relative to the society we grew up in, the morals taught to us, and our own personal values, however...
We have to keep a few things in mind.
Historically, in Western literature, dark and light are symbols for good and evil. In the first game it is very clear that dark=bad, light=good, and the general structure of the story-line leaned to western themed hero's quest stories. However, you'll notice in the second came, it took a very different turn, leaning towards themes you see more in Eastern culture, which is becoming more and more popular here...
Mickey states that they do not hate the Darkness, but they do fear it and it is established that if the members of the Dark were not using their powers to hurt others, they would not be at odds with one another (which contradicts the first game, but whatever). We may turn to the Yin and Yang symbol to analyze this viewpoint. Yin stands for darkness, dampness, the female essence, negative energy, death and rebirth. Yang stands for lightness, dryness, the male essence, positive energy and strength.
Both are needed for tranquility and balance and neither of them are "good" or "bad." They are forever at odds with one another, and forever in need of one another.
In your case, you're taking a more realistic viewpoint: there is no such thing as good and evil, but our actions will define how the rest of the world views us.

The dark is often used for evil, as is the light for good-- darkness, for hiding and striking from the shadows, overpowering and killing with power gained from it; light, for healing and shining through the darkness.. you have heard this all before.
But can the darkness not be sanctuary for those trying to hide? Can it not also be used for other things? Can the light be used as a form of blinding oppression, using buffs to make stopping an individual impossible?
Yes.
All that matters is how you apply it. An element is an element, and by definition neutral; periodic table, or magic. They are not good, or evil; those values depend on how they are viewed by an individual, and how they are used. It is only when being called upon for something that they can seem to be anything but what they are.
Nothingness is... nothing. It has no element, nor does it have anything within it. It is the sheer devoid of all that is so difficult to comprehend, simply because the mind has to believe there is something there. Nothingness is not good, nor evil; it is unaligned, exists nowhere, and yet can exist anywhere, though the fact that it does exist is nearly a paradox (for nature so abhors a vacuum).
In the first game, the Dark was all hunger. As a force on its own, it would have eaten everything. As a wielded power, it was used by the ones how would stop at nothing to gain more power.
If we were jump a few famdoms over we might be reminded, it's easier to gain power from dark then from light, and we know that power often breeds hunger for more power.
But that doesn't mean that dark powers make one evil. Evil powers make one evil. Actively bloodpathing indicates that one is evil. Making dark portals, walked the places between the places - that, not so much.
Now when we start saying that good and evil are points of view, we get in to moral relativism, and I don't want to have to explain why that's not a place we want to go.
So you see, not a stupid question, but instead one that requires a great deal of answering.
