In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.

"Fifth round of the Preliminaries - Renzo Ronso versus V!"
The next contestant was of a species Setzer had never seen before. He studied the large, blue lion-like man curiously for a moment, before shrugging and settling back to watch the match. Surely he'd see odder, somewhere in his hazy past.
((OK =D)) Reno was still having trouble holding the little bat in paws but this is what he had to fight with. Finally he found the right holding place for the bat in his hand that was good offensively and still comfortable to his hand. He walked over to his side of the struggle stadium. He could feel the sun beating on him that day but he wouldn't shed a bead of sweat. The wind was little to nothing on the stage.
Reno wasn't new to fighting just this type of fighting were you had to get orbs from your opponent. Also he couldn't use magic or abilities not that he used them much but they were still helpful at time. He shook is head but lightened himself up telling himself that this would allow him to test his fighting skills.
Yeah test himself seeing as he hasn't fought with a blade/club type weapon in a long, long time. Well then here goes nothing, he told himself getting himself into a fighting position.

(alright! Sorry for the wait, i have been awefully busy and just needed a break from everything yesterday. But now that im all rested and everything lets do this!)
V jumped as she heard her name announced by the competitions host, a look of shock on her face as if she had not expected her name to be called. Her heart raced as she got up from the bench she was sitting on, grabbing the bat as she did and made her way towards the struggle stadium. 'Awwww man...' she thought nervously, 'this is bad...' Just what great idea made her decide to do this? She had heard about it from her love, and was interested to compete in it but now that she was here...she was having secound thoughts.
'Im not even that good at fighting!' she shouted in her head, as she entered the stadium, full of nervous thoughts. Unfortunately seeing her opponent didnt exactly help the situation at all. He was HUGE!!! And was deffinetly not human, for he had an appearance that looked mostly like a lion. He had a long tail, and was surprising blue. A horn rested in the middle of his forehead, and on his shoulder blades seemed to be a small set of feathery wings. V's eye's got even larger than they were before. 'Oh is deffinetly not good...'
The hand where she held the bat began to shake, though she stopped it by grabbing it with her other hand. How she wished Shira was still with her, usually if there was a fight she would let her darker persona take care of it. But now she was gone, probablly in some new world with Saxen and Deathblade. A look of dispair crept on the girls face, but once it did she soon shook her head, replacing the look with a confident one. 'No...' she thought, 'I can do this by myself....its time i finally stopped cowering behind other people.'
She looked up at her opponent, and regaining her composure smiled her usual smile greeting him with a friendly "hello!" She then walked closer to the other being, and extending her hand said. "Good luck! May the best struggeler win!" She was finally starting to feel like her old self, then walking back to where she originally was, got into a defensive stance, though she couldnt use magic or her aura powers, V had a couple of tricks she knew she could use that might turn out useful in the battle. 'here we go!' she thought feeling a little excited, and smiling waited for her the blue creature to attack.
"Good luck" What a strange thing to say to someone you're about to fight, Renzo thought. Perhaps it's just being polite and nice but before a fight, he also thought. He shook his head and concentrated on the to be match. He took a few seconds to observe his combatant. She was a small a girl who was probably somewhere in her teen years.
Renzo was somewhat surprised this wasn't the combatant he was expecting to fight but he would if he had to. He saw in more of a defensive stance. Fine I'll make my move first, he told himself. Hmm what to do though, he thought and continued thinking. A charge followed by a swing may work, He thought to himself. That will do, He moved a little getting ready to charge.
Renzo charged swiftly with great power. He could feel the wind pushing on his face as he charged. He roared as he got within swinging range. He let out a fierce swing from the weird blue bat thing. He was surprised at how light and easy it was to swing the little blue bat.
V smiled as she watched her opponent dash towards her. She held the bat out, and feeling a sense of confidence throughout her entire body began to react. Soon it was like her body had a mind of it's own, she met up with her opponent jumping right in his face, then twirling at the last second she moved to the side in a spin motion. While this happened, she stuck out her bat and hitting the blue being on the side caused a couple orbs to fall from her opponent. Their round surfaces hitting the hard concrete lightly, like drops of rain.
At that point V couldn't risk being so close to the blue being, she jumped back and landing softly on the ground contemplated in her head what she should do next. 'Alright.' she thought, 'I can do this...now...I just need a plan...' she looked up at her opponent, her eye's widening at the thought of how tall he was.
"Dang!" she shouted, "How did you manage to get so tall?" she asked the blue being, her head tilted to the side. "I mean...seriously you must've drank a lot of milk when you were younger...jeez..." At the thought of milk the girl slightly shuddered, aw how she hated that stuff. She could eat it with cereal but when it came from drinking it by itself, nope! She just couldn't do it. 'Must be something in the flavor...' she thought.
Then shaking her head she concentrated on the battle, 'Come on, V' she shouted mentally at herself, 'Focus!' she looked back at her opponent. 'Alright...' she muttered, suddenly a thought went through her head, her eye's widened then smiling she yelled mentally. 'I got it!' She held up a defensive position, and going over her new found plan waited for her opponents next attack.
Renzo was surprised the bat hurt less than he thought it would. Well it is a struggle tournament not a gladiator. He walked over to his orbs and picked them up. He was also quite surprised at the speed of the little girl he be sure not to be stupid with an attack again.
He heard the little girl ask him a question but truthfully he wouldn't have answered it even if he was sociable so it was like a double win. He took a few steps back and got himself in his own defensive stance preparing for another attack.
Just like the fiends back home, he thought to himself. This girl couldn't be more of a challenge then one of them or could she. Concentrate, he told himself still in a defensive stance ready for anything. The blue bat still felt extremely light and comfortable yeah he could win this one.
V frowned as she realized her opponent wasn't gonna make another attack, she sighed 'Guess it's my turn to go the offensive.' she thought. She held up her blue bat, and closing her eyes dashed towards Renzo. As she did, she could feel the aura of everyone in the market square swirl around her, she opened her eyes and getting pretty close to her opponent suddenly jumped to the side, she then twirled around, and getting behind the blue being hit his back. She then jumped back, and picking up the orbs that had fallen from her opponent tried to get in front of him, however that didn't quite happen.
She was about to spin around again, when suddenly her feet accidentally got caught by blue beings tail. She fell roughly to the ground letting out a "oof!" as her body made contact with the ground. A few orbs fell from her then, but that wasn't her problem now. The girl instantly gasped, as she realized something...she, was wide open for an attack. "uh-oh..." she murmured to herself, "not good!" She rolled away from her opponent, picking up an orb as she did. She then jumped to her feet, and trying to balance herself held up her bat in a defensive position. She then let out a soft laugh, "Ok..." she said, "Note to self...never get caught on your opponents tail." The girl felt then a little bit shaky, she couldn't afford to make another mistake like that again. "concentrate V..." she whispered to herself, and taking in a deep breath tried to calm herself down.
Renzo wasn't even aware of his tail moving until he heard something fall behind him He turned to see the girl roll away from him. Well that is strange, Renzo thought. He took a skeptical look at the girl land picked any orbs that the girl hadn't already picked up.
Renzo took a step forward not quite sure what his next move should be...... again. To much decision Just let instincts take over, Renzo told himself. He nodded at his own judgment. What instincts?, Renzo asked himself . Battle instincts maybe, he shook his head and focused back at the battle.
With that Renzo jumped on all fours still holding the struggle bat and he raced to wards his opponent with great ferocity and speed. He could feel nice air brushing against his fur. His heart was pounding with the thrill of the battle. Now Renzo remembered what it felt like to fight the fiends back on Spira.

V's eye's widened as she watched her opponent dash towards her again, 'another direct attack?' she though confused. She held out her bat, and standing her ground decided to block the attack this time except dodging it. Bad idea. Once the two blue bats met, the girl could feel the force behind her opponents bat. She struggled to keep her weapon up, man was he strong!
V could feel her knee's starting to bend as she began to slowly sink to the ground. 'Uh-oh!' she though alarmed, 'not good!' She tried to keep her legs straight, but knowing she wouldn't be able to go on parroting blades with the blue creature got an idea. She closed her eye's and using all her strength managed to push her opponent back a few inches away from her, which was all she needed. She then held her bat horizontally, and imagining the weapon as her old scythe hibiki jumped towards Renzo, she then twirled around doing a simple spin attack.
She spinned two times before landing on the ground, and crouched down the girl suddenly jumped up hitting her opponent right dab in the middle of his stomach. A few orbs fell, and dodge rolling on the ground picked most of them up before jumping to her feet. V felt pretty proud of herself, here she was thinking she would lose at the first minute of the battle, and yet so far she was doing pretty good. 'I can do this.' she thought to herself smiling, however, she didn't get her hopes up. Afterall the fight was far from over, and the last thing she wanted was to make a mistake just because she got cocky.
.The sun was still beaming down casting all it's warmth on the stadium this didn't bother Renzo much. He stared down at the girl and he bonked her lightly on the head with his bat causing one lone orb to drop. "That is.... strange," Renzo told his combatant. He picked up the lone orb and stared down at the girl. Don't judge a book by it's cover, he told himself. He nodded at his own thought. "You fight.... well," he also told the girl which surprised him. He was not much of a talker but maybe that could distract the girl or something close to that.
Renzo prepped himself again. Defense now, he told himself. Make the opponent tired now then strike, once again he nodded at his vast mind. He held his bat out vertically staring down his opponent intently. He would not let his guard down this time or do a foolish charge
V had not expected her opponents next attack, he literally towered over her so much, the girl felt like a small mouse up against a lion. She was ready to react quickly if he attacked, a look of confidence on her face. However, when he did...her mind must've been blank at the time cause she didn't move. But where his bat landed was weird, Renzo honked her on the head making a lone orb drop from the girl. At first V just stared at the blue being confused, wondering if that just really happened.
"That is...strange," Renzo told her, picking up the orb. V nodded, then getting her head back in the game she jumped back, slapping her forehead with her left hand. 'Ok..that was stupid...' she thought, 'Pay attention V! don't blank out!' She stared at the blue being, which when she did found him doing anothe unexpected act...he began to talk! "You fight...well..." he said to her.
V was surprised that Rezo had actually spoke, but then smiling she replied cheerfully. "Thanks! you too." She then watched as the blue being prepped himself again, she raised her bat and dashing towards her opponent had an idea. She cartewheeled to the side, and landing on both feet aimed her bat at Renzo's right shoulder.
Renzo jumped back and parried the girls strike with his bat. Perhaps this could be a bit more fun if only he could use magic and other abilities then that would heat up the battle. He once again nonchalantly hit the girl lightly but this time it was her hand and another lone orb fell. "Only one orb falls," he said picking up the the lone orb which looked quite sad by itself. "Lone orb is sad orb," he told the girl showing her the sad and lone orb that fell from her.
Renzo walked over to the other side of the stage and waited for the girl to do another move but what could she do next Renzo had to be ready for anything if he wanted to win. Did he even want to win he never truly thought about it till that second. Why did I even sign up, he thought still waiting. Perhaps he did want to win that trophy did look spiffy but were would he put such a trophy when he basically lives in a cave. He could find a very flat rock to put it on if he won. Focus, he thought to himself just now realizing he had been thinking a lot and not paying attention to the battle.

As V looked up at Denzo she couldn't help but laugh, "y'know..." she said in between chuckles, "Your not that bad." She took in a deep breath, and stopping her self from laughing smiled at the blue being. Once her opponent walked over to the other side of the stage the girl sighed. She knew Renzo's plan, she had figured it out after her second frontal assault. He wanted to tire her out, well...too bad she wouldn't let that happen. But now she needed a plan, she scratched the back of her head, and looked down at the ground.
"Man...This is harder than I thought it would be..." she said letting out a soft chuckle, "I'm sure if I had Shira with me she could come up with a plan...oh well...guess I'll have to improvise." The girl took on a defensive stance and looking up at her opponent said in a voice that sounded like anothers, "I'm tired of going on the offensive...why dont you attack this time?" Once that was said V's eye's widened, did she really just say that? She...almost sounded like Shira...she shook her head, 'I have to remember...though I may want to be as strong as her that doesn't mean I need to act like her. I'm my own person...' she thought, she then looked back up at her opponent, and raising her bat waited for him to attack.
