Name: Oscar Zoroaster
Nickname:
Professor Zoroaster
Age:
He looks to be about twenty two, but he is in fact thirty three. He is of average weight and height.
Gender:
Male
Species:
Human/Wizard
Position:
He worked extensively at a lab for the research and development of Heartless. He worked alone in Traverse Town. His discoveries of their behavior and adaptability gave him great praise from even Ansem the Wise himself, although he had never met him. Oscar is of good intentions but his inventions and spells tend to get the best of him. Before he expanded his laboratory, it was unexpectedly trashed and abandoned.
The details still remain fuzzy.
Powers:
He carries with him an array of scientific and Magical instruments to defend himself with, but his weapon of choice is his good ol' metal cane. He had it forged by a moogle over ten years ago as a present from his father and has cherished it ever since. As far as elemental magic goes he is limited to what he knows. He has never gotten a magic instructor so he relies on stealth and wit.
The cane, which is silver with a golden dragon's head on top- has a built in sword, telescope, and a grappling gun that can reach to about seventy feet. Magic is limited at the moment to blizzard, fire, thunder, and stop. His inventions include lock picks, flashlights, tracking devices, and a navigational system. His only gummy ship is still not in working order because he cannot afford to fix it.
Oscar is very smart and innovative. When in a sticky situation he uses his mind to counter rather than brute force. Even though he is a very talented swordsman he does not enjoy combat. Violence is something he avoids often. Rather than killing he focuses on avoiding to stay on task. He uses his strength to protect rather than destroy which is why his heart is so strong.
Keyblades intrigue him, but personally he believes he is too weak to wield one. He often tells of how people who have keyblades have great destinies and so are chosen to have them, but he is more of an observer. His destiny is not known to him at all, so at times he feels useless. But he is far from it, as he will one day see.
Oscar is 6'2" and 180 lbs. He often keeps his yellow hair in an upward spikey wave. His black dress shoes are pointy and sleek and they compliment his emerald green tailcoat. He has a fair complexion and a lean body. However, even though he seems attractive he is a scientist and as we all know scientists can be sort of awkward and distant. Always thinking of discovery, not love.
He is socially awkward, and tends to work alone. It's not that he doesn't want a friend, it's just that he can't imagine somebody would want to spend time with him, if he had any. He works non-stop to look for answers. Although he is incredibly smart, he doesn't have a clue as to how he can meet new people. Instead he distracts himself with endless lists of important thing to do.
Original World: Oscar was born in Radiant Gardens.
Current World: Oscar currently lives in Traverse Town. He moved there after his father retired.
When he was very little, his father introduced him to science. He loved learning more about the hearts of worlds, heartless, nobodies, keyblades, etc... His mother would display magic which also interested him. On his twelfth birthday he was attacked by a heartless and his mother gave her heart to him to keep him from dying. Her sacrifice was tragic, and from that day on both him and his father researched what happened to one's heart after death. Eventually his father retired and Oscar began his own place of research.
When he first set up his laboratory in the second district he studied only hearts. Their energies, purpose, and current uses. But as he continued he found himself looking into other things. Darkness, light. Their eternal coexistence and historic matters. The keyblade war was the birth of a new age, and he wanted to unlock all of it's secrets. His research gained some attention and he even received praise from some of the most distinguished historians and scientists. But one day after he had made a great breakthrough in the energy of Hearts he found his laboratory ransacked, upset, and generally ruined. Much of his work was either destroyed or missing. He now lives in the first District alone.
The Bell Tolls and the Past Calls
"Is that all you need, kupo?"
"Yes, uh, thank you. Tell me, did the cane give you much trouble?"
I had just gotten back my cane after a small accident. It was foolish really. I saw a heartless wandering about in the second district by the bell tower, but the Gizmo Shop was closed, so I had to use my cane's grappling gun. But it was so dark and I was in such a rush that it instead hit the bell. I woke up half of the town, and it snapped a piece of the canes golden dragon head right off. I was reluctant to have a Moogle fix it for me (It is a very touchy instrument) but seeing as my workshop had been recently destroyed I didn't have much choice.
"No."
Another Moogle popped up from behind the furnace.
"What do you mean 'no' kupo? It nearly exploded!?"
"E-exploded?", I didn't like the sound of that at all.
The first Moogle shifted to look at the other. "Don't be dramatic, kupo. The handle just got a little to heated and the inner gears were momentarily upset. It merely fizzed a bit, kupo. But we fixed it up good as new."
I took back the cane to inspect it. I clicked the button under the dragon's second fang to the left and pulled out the sword from within it. The Moogle's work was to be praised, it was indeed in fine condition. After I was satisfied with it's appearance I paid him the 500 munny and headed out into the night.
I noticed him right away leaning against the lamppost. He was dressed in dark clothing and his hair hung in his face so I couldn't identify him. Suspicious indeed. I walked east towards my new home, and I could hear his faint footsteps following close behind. I couldn't decide if he was a threat or if I was just a bit jumpy after what happened to my Laboratory. I decided to just keep a steady pace.
I could see the door to my home and peered behind me. I didn't see him behind me.
"Phew. I must not let them scare me." I'm not sure why I said 'Them' because honestly I haven't got a clue as to who ransacked my place of work, but it kept me level headed which is what's important. I unlocked the front door and checked behind myself once more for good measure, then headed inside.
"Professor Zoroaster."
There he sat in my good chair, that same man from before. I saw his face more clearly now in the light of my home. He had white hair, yet didn't look a day over twenty. He leaned forward to address me closer.
"Sorry to frighten you, but I had to keep you safe."
"You could never frighten me." I leaned against the wall but my hand was sweaty from worry and I slipped. He smiled playfully at me, undoubtedly seeing through my facade.
"Indeed," he spoke with humor in his voice. "Please understand that I had to follow you after what happened."
"Does that mean you know who destroyed my lab?" I took a firm grip on my cane. His eyes followed my movements but remained calmly seated on my chair.
"If I tell you who did, will you put down your weapon?"
I didn't feel comfortable with the idea, but information is like gold to me. I lowered my stance and he understood my answer.
"It was you."
"... What?"
"Do you recall what happened on your birthday when you were twelve?"
"I was attacked by a heartless and almost died."
"You say almost, but we both know it was worse than that. Your mother used magic to give her heart to you and keep you alive. What is it like having another heart for your own?"
"SHUTUP!" my anger got the best of me, and my sword flew from the cane's sheath. I lunged to the chair but instead of flesh, I found feathers. I ruined my good chair, and now it was personal. He stood at the door, gun in hand.
"Let me know when you're ready for the truth, until then I will watch over you."
"I don't need protection from anything!"
"Except yourself. Take care." And just like that he vanished.
I dropped my sword and turned to my chair. I wiped a tear from my face.
"I hope Moogles have experience with upholstery."
