In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Powers: Setsuna has the ability to create a shield out of thin air. This shield is magical, with properties yet unknown. All he knows is that it’s certainly a good weapon against those creatures in white, and that its extremely far reach (courtesy of the chain) can keep them at bay and him away from physical attack. And no matter how much the creatures try to break it, the shield is exceptionally resilient; it seems to be indestructible. However, this may be because it is linked to his mind... if his will should break under a sudden assault, so too might the shield. Fortunately for him, it hasn't happened yet, but nobody ever knows what the future holds...
He has grown since the time of that discovery, that he can create the shield. He syncs himself with the shield to cause illusory clones of himself, and of other objects. However, while these creatures/objects appear real, they do not actually exist and therefore cannot be used as a weapon. Anybody attempting to attack said creatures/objects will find their attacks going straight through them!
Besides using his shield as a mere conduit for his newly-discovered powers, he can also use the shield in combat, from spinning it in a whirlwind of motion to “surfing” on virtually any surface except liquid. The shield also acts as a barrier, protecting him from ranged and magical attacks, such as flaming projectiles. However, this has left him curiously susceptible to area attacks, such as from a bomb blast. He can block melee attacks as well, but it requires much more concentration on defense. As a desperate technique, Setsuna can slam his shield into the ground and cause a tremor, causing his enemies to become unsteady and buy him valuable seconds of time. He has deemed the shield “Reflection of Memory” as he thinks of his dream every time he looks upon it.
Since his training, he has put on muscle mass, giving him a more athletically defined look. As such, he can swing his shield with more force than someone without training could, lift heavier weight, etc. Though his progress has not purely been concentrated on brute force; he has become more agile as well, able to reassert himself if knocked into the air, suddenly putting on a burst of speed to move quickly, and jumping higher.
His only other weapon he uses (and only when he becomes truly desperate) is his short katana, Solitaire. Though he has tried to study its origins, nothing notable ever surfaced, except for the fact that it might have latent abilities waiting to be unlocked, given the right stimulus… and as an “ordinary” weapon, it cannot seem to hit those creatures in white. They simply dodge around its slashing blows.
His shield, however, causes him to lose strength every time he makes an attack with it, or expends any sort of energy via magic use. This is why he avoids fighting - too much of it, and he'll simply become lethargic. However, he views fighting as a necessity to protect those who deserve protection.
As well, though the "clones" of himself do appear in reality, they do not exist, and therefore they waver like mirages. While this can be distracting to an enemy surrounded by multiple "Setsunas", any enemy with a sentient mind should be able to differentiate relatively quickly from the mirages and Setsuna himself.
On top of this, Setsuna has uncovered dusty tomes in the library which contains details of magic spells. After studying these tomes extensively (and after sufficient practice), he has gained proficiency with certain magics: a reflective orb that springs into being around him (Reflect), causing an air current to spring himself into the air while whirling his shield (Aero Jump) and, most important of all, the ability to regenerate the damage from minor physical wounds (i.e., minor slash wounds would close up, but this would have no effect on a wound dealt with a magic weapon, or a wound dealt by a magical attack; called Regen).
Weapon: Reflection of Memory. It is a shield-like mirror mounted on a chain. After having a mysterious dream, it appeared in his hand. (I.e., like Kratos's chainblades from God of War. This weapon is not intended to copy those from God of War.)
Solitaire. This Japanese shortsword is modeled after a katana, and Setsuna has carried it around with him as he grew up. It holds a lot of sentimental value to him, and he is reluctant to fight with it, given how old it is. It has no magical properties to speak of, or at least none that Setsuna has discovered yet...
Picture: None available.
Appearance: He stands 6 feet 1 inch tall. He wears gray, wrinkled jeans with black, blue-striped running shoes. A studded belt holds his jeans up, and a dark blue vest over a white T-shirt puts together his whole look. His long, black hair hangs over his broad shoulders, and his hazel eyes betray no signs of personality. A long, jagged scar on his right arm betrays the fact that he has been injured before. His face itself is long, with a semi-pointed chin. He wears a ring, acquired from his tutor at the completion of his tutoring. This ring is a simple silver band, with no magical property to speak of.
Personality: Though seemingly cold and detached, there is kindness in Setsuna's heart, defending those subject to harassment/bullying. He'll fight only when necessary, and does not relish it.
He keeps a calm, level-headed demeanor when confronted with an issue, and he will stop at nothing to resolve it. Though he shows his kindness only rarely (helping a fallen skateboarder up from a fall, for example) it shows that he is not the man everyone thinks he is. There are a few who know of Setsuna's true intentions, and they enjoy his presence.
However, Setsuna has sensed a growing unease in the world around him, and this drives him to set things right.
What irritates him the most is people that are slow on the uptake - he dislikes having to explain a concept multiple times, and will get annoyed if he is forced to do so. His strengths are his athletic body and the ability to summon a mysterious shield, which happened recently. His weaknesses, however, are the weapons he carries - his short katana, "Solitaire", and his shield, which he calls "Reflection of Memory". His short katana isn't magical, and will break if used improperly. As he has had this katana ever since he was a child, he is fiercely protective of it.
He has taken a recent liking to some younger denizens, who have noticed that his unfriendly demeanor is only a show. He never enrolled in college, preferring to stay in Twilight Town to be with his friends; but not his family. He is currently staying in an attic room at the local library. He has found that they who work there are far more accepting than his true parents, and his icy demeanor is slowly disappearing. He is an only child (his mother had a miscarriage and has been fearful of having it happen again) and thus is also protective of his parents - another weakness that may prove to be his undoing. He cannot explain why he is so protective of them when he harbors so much dislike for them. The only reason he gives is this:
"They are my blood."
He studies endlessly - where did his powers come from? His parents had no magic in their blood, so how did he gain some magical ability? And it bothers him that he and his shield are so closely tied together - how it drains his energy every time it strikes a blow, or he fights with it. But he is determined to find out the cause of this.
So it happened that training with his shield became a new hobby of his - he goes down to a secluded area of the beach and perfects various techniques. He finds it oddly relaxing, and he has an odd premonition that he'll need it soon.
Original World: Twilight Town Current World: Twilight Town
History: He is the first and only child of the Hirodomos. His mother had a miscarriage when he was only two. His parents were usually busy, hiring a nanny to take care of Setsuna.
As he grew older, however, Setsuna questioned whether his parents truly loved him; if they did, why did they pay no attention to him and love him like a true son? He began to harbor a dislike for them, and when observing his father at a construction site, a jagged piece of metal was torn from the building structure and cut a deep wound into Setsuna's right arm. It pains him still, though it has scarred.
He blames this on his father, who was responsible of overseeing everyone's safety at the construction site. His dislike began to run deeper. At the age of ten, he was mercilessly harassed in school due to his long hair, and got into a few fights. He was deemed unstable, and was sent away for homeschooling from a private tutor. So it was for eight years. But then his tutor advised him to enroll in college, saying that it was time. Setsuna refused, however. After enduring a night of being yelled at by his parents, he could take it no longer.
"You don't love me at all! You would love me unconditionally, whatever I did! But this proves it, you don't love me at all..." before going into his room and slamming the door. That night, he dreamed that he was staring into a mirror... but then his reflection grinned hideously and reached out of the mirror, attempting to choke the life out of Setsuna. With his final breaths, Setsuna woke up with these words echoing through his head:
"You're never going to get anywhere with that will of yours... perhaps I shall aid you."
To his amazement, the same shield in his dream was in his hand! He hid it, for a time, but then realized that the shield would come into being every time harm was imminent. A year passed, and during that time he mastered control over the shield. He could even slide down slopes on it and it wouldn't even get scratched. This is when he realized he could summon it at will, and that there was magical blood within him.
A year has passed, and now he's working at the library, trying to figure out what is causing this strange phenomenon. He can summon copies of himself, though they aren't perfect, and he can create mirages of objects to deceive. He can also draw upon the air, hardening it into a shimmering barrier that protects him for a short time. All this time, though, a sense of unease has settled in his heart.
Why do I have these powers? Am I a pawn in a much greater scheme?
This may or may not be true. In the meantime, he studies, though not in vain. Should he become part of something much greater, he will stop at nothing to do his part, and more...
Role Playing Sample: Setsuna swung the shield chain horizontally, whipping it to the side and smashing it into a rocky cliff, breaking some rocks. On the backswing, he jumped into the air and let go of the chain, the shield coming straight at him and he jumping into air, coming down hard on the shield's back. Though his technique was far from perfect, those mysterious guys in white wouldn't invade the town again - not on his watch.
The edge of his lip curled up in a slight smile as he picked up the shield. Fastening it again to his fist, he smashed it into the cliff again, causing rocks to fall directly towards him. Summoning some reserves of energy, he held up his hands. The shield sprung into his hands seemingly moving of its own accord. It blocked the rocks as they fell, and those that got past the shield were blocked by a sphere of shimmering force that enveloped Setsuna.
Letting the rock fragments fall around him, Setsuna let the shield shimmer away into nothingness before walking away from the sandy beach and towards the train, Solitaire hanging quietly at his belt. As he walked, he continued to ponder. Speaking quietly to himself, he starts to mutter.
"Everyone in town... they've been secluding themselves lately. And I... I sense something as well. Something disturbing. Like... my powers didn't just spring into being for no particular reason. I have this power over illusion for a reason..."
He holds up a hand, concentrating, and a wavering clone of himself appears in front of him. He makes another hand gesture, and the clone disappears. He sighs. "Perhaps one day, I will know what is going on, but by then, it might be too late..."
He boards the train, he watches the scenery flash by. "Those guys in white can mean nothing good... I haven't heard of anything yet, but goodness knows what they'll get up to... they're sentient, that much I know for certain, and they're planning something. I need to find out what it is..."
He said nothing more until the train stopped. Looking out at the beautiful vista that sprawled before him... the eternal sunset... he sighed. "I'd hate for anything to happen to this town..." he started to walk to the library, where he had a room in the attic. His parents had kicked him out after that little shouting match. As he opened the door, he gasped.
The guys in white!
Tearing up the books!
He distinctly saw one of the covers of the damaged books: The History of Twilight Town. The library's oldest copy! The glass case containing it had been shattered, and now it lay in tatters at the creature's "feet". Letting the door close behind him, he held out his hand as his shield came into being.
"Hey! Stop messing around here!"
The figures looked at him with eyeless faces and began to circle around him slowly. And the fight began. The sinuous white creature closest to him lunged, which Setsuna blocked before countering with a foot sweep that knocked it down. Setsuna grimly buried a stud into it, causing it to burst in a bright explosion. But then, Setsuna got tackled from behind. "Damn! It was a trap!" He called upon the air to reflect any more assaults, and spun his shield, dislodging the creature on his back and causing it to smack into a wall and disappear.
"C'mon! Bring it!"
Setsuna taunted to the creatures in white. But then, dark holes of anti-matter appeared in the walls, which the remaining creatures melted into.
And just like that, the fight was over. Setsuna cautiously got on his feet and calmly dusted himself off. He then ascended the ladder to the attic, despawned his shield, and lay down on his cot. He fell asleep quite quickly... but what would happen the next day?
