In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Legato sat in the middle of the third district, the snow falling around him and leaving a bright white powder behind which used to contrast with the black colors of the city. It actually was quite beautiful and a pleasant change from the normal Traverse Town, but Legato didn't care.
It was so cold and Legato was visibly shaking, but he didn't care. Nothing mattered now. Everyone was gone. His family, his friends. All of them, gone within an instant. Legato didn't even spend that much time with them, and yet, they all left. Though he thought he was already used to the pain, it turned out that it completely consumed him.
The cold was getting to him, but that didn't matter. He wanted it to come, wanted it to take him away. Away from the pain of Life. Though some saw it as an easy way out, Legato just wanted to escape. Escape from it all. All the pain, suffering and trouble of the world of the living. It wasn't worth it, not to him. He had nothing.
Though he felt the Heartless start to surround him, it wasn't something to be afraid of. No. It was something to be embraced. It meant that death approached ever closer and would take him in his hands. No one would come to save him, Legato didn't want someone to save him. He wanted death.

Pine trees began whispering-- a great power was here. However, it seemed to be not of Light nor of Darkness. Such a complex, abject energy, that they did not know whether to report it to the White Lady. From out of a Corridor of Darkness slipped a woman, tall and beautiful, if not just a bit terrifying. Beside her, two tentacle creatures swayed and hissed, snapping at the cold air a few times. The ephemeral chill of this world was nothing compared to the eternal cold of the Void, and so the Cloud of Darkness banished it from her scantily clad limbs as she floated to and fro.
She happened on a scent that smelled weak and needy... but oh so vulnerable. Perhaps this person was down on their luck? It would certainly serve her own interests if she were to turn this person to her own side. That being, of course, Darkness. And thus, she followed the scent to a barren corner of the plaza where a young man sat shivering and looking forlorn and hopeless. Perfect.
"What ails you, oh troubled soul?" she said. Pain snickered and Suffering inched a little closer, maybe hoping they would eat this boy instead of turn him. "Surely you are not attempting to end your life. With so much ahead of you..." the Cloud of Darkness leaned in closer, her crimson lips stark against the pale cream of her skin which almost seemed to blend with the white of the snow on the ground. "Perhaps there is something we could do to assist you..." she said. Her lips turned up at the outermost edges, the only hit peeking through her guile that she was not only interested in helping this poor young man.
Even if he doesn't want our help... We can always eat him.
Legato looked up as he heard a voice, confused. Who is this person? And why is she talking to me? She looked very different, that was for sure. She had these weird yellow snake things that seemed to follow her and she didn't wear that much, only a billowing cloak.
Her words pierced Legato hard as he looked away from her, afraid. How did she know? Legato was very scared and worried now. Just who was she?
"Help me?" Legato said feebly to her, looking down for a moment. Legato didn't need help with anything, he didn't have anything at all. Why did she offer to help though? Legato was perplexed at what she was saying.
"Ummm... I don't know of anything I need help with." He said quietly, still afraid of looking at her in the eyes. He missed his family and he missed his friends. But they all left him. Left him alone to fight against this cruel world. Legato didn't know what do anymore.
"Actually... I want to find a purpose. A purpose for living." He suddenly said, the words just coming out of his mouth without really thinking about what he said. "Just who are you?"
Flourishing her arms widely, the figure smirked and floated an extra inch or so over the ground. Pain and Suffering each hissed and snapped at the boy in front of her, and she announced herself to the sky (and, consequently, Legato).
"We are the Cloud of Darkness!" she said. Caressing Pain and Suffering, she continued the introductions. "These are my companions-- Pain, who has eyes, and Suffering who has ears." Pain eyed Legato hungrily until the Cloud of Darkness flicked it.
Fear... She smelled fear. It was a delicious scent that seeped into clothing and pervaded all free air in a wide space. It was delicious, but the Cloud of Darkness had to reign in her control and prevent herself from too many "scary" outbursts. It surely was not helping.
"But enough about us..." she said, waving away Pain and Suffering and offering her hand to the boy so as to help him up. "We aren't just about doom and gloom, as it were... We only desire to assist you, and we would be more than glad to give you a purpose."
Cruelly sharp blades had nothing on the smile the Cloud of Darkness had on her face. She allowed a tad of her dark energy to seep out and dim the area... only enough that the boy would get a taste and become addicted to the invigorating and rejuvenating power it held.
There was something off about her. Legato couldn't help but feel apprehensive about her as she ominously rose into the skies. As she announced her name to the skies, Legato became very scared of her. Just her name made him want to run away.
"Wow. What dark names." Legato said to himself quietly as she offered her his hand. Legato, looking up at the Cloud of Darkness, touched her hand. As he did, he decided to listen to her soul and this was the most perfect opportunity to do so.
As he touched her, the music reverberated in his head. A ghastly, dark and somber mantra echoed in his head, which sounded like pure darkness. Legato withdrew his hand quickly from her in order to stop the music and withdrew backwards, shocked and fearful. He had never heard such dark music before and it chilled him to the bone.
"A-and what purpose is that?" The frightened Legato asked her, not looking at her due to fear. Legato didn't like the darkness. He despised it. He despised the fact that it was darkness that took his family and his world, leaving him in Traverse Town.
It was then that Legato felt the darkness. It felt wrong. Legato didn't like it, but at the same time, there was a part of it that enticed Legato. But no, it still was wrong. He couldn't let himself be taken by the darkness. Though his friends left him, Legato didn't want to lose himself. Lose himself to the darkness.
"I don't want this darkness." Legato said quietly to the Cloud of Darkness while standing up. "I don't want this as my purpose. I don't want to be taken by the darkness!" He shouted.
She had somewhat anticipated such a reaction from this small boy... To fear Darkness was as natural in these frail things as it was to fear Death. Both fears seemed irrational to the Cloud of Darkness, but she had to work within their confines in order to speed things along. Without losing her smile, though perhaps softening it a bit, she leaned closer to the boy.
"Lose yourself?" she said, adding a hint of beguiling laughter to it. "We can think of nothing farther from the truth than to say you would 'lose' yourself..." Reaching out a hand, she caressed Legato's cheek. "My dear silly boy... You would instead be taking your destiny into your own hands. No cold and lonely life on the streets. No more fear or insecurity..."
She let that last sentence hang in the air for a moment. All she needed to do was to press the right buttons. Play on his feelings of weakness and avoid things like 'allow the darkness to consume you'.

Legato couldn't look into the woman's eyes. He couldn't bring himself to do it. It was scary, very scary and Legato felt more vulnerable than he had ever felt before. Though he had felt alone before, the way he felt now was ten times worse.
He flinched when he felt her hand on his cheek, the cool touch causing shivers to travel down his spine. It was true that he was constantly scared. He was so useless. He couldn't do anything. But maybe... No. He couldn't think that.
Her last words caused his mind to whiplash back into reality. No more being weak? No more being alone? The words echoed in his mind as he looked at the cloud of darkness. This power. It was so wrong, yet it was so right. Should he, or shouldn't he? Legato didn't know what to think. The darkness took his family and his friends left him.
The sadness turned to anger. Why did they leave him? Why was he always left behind? Why was it always him who got screwed over? He was sick of it.
"Cloud of Darkness." Legato said, sounding determined. "I want the power of darkness."
The Cloud of Darkness embraced Legato. The silly child... but now he was her silly child. Something like a son to her. But this was not the place. The trees here had been whispering since her arrival, but only about her strange energy (a seeming lack of both Light and Darkness). Were she to convert him here, she would find out why trees here could whisper in the first place, she was sure. She let go of Legato, and then offered her hand, creating a Corridor of Darkness behind her.
"This is not the place for your conversion, young one," she said. "We must away with you to another place. Preferably another world, if you can stand it..."
Legato didn't flinch when the Cloud of Darkness embraced her. He felt oddly safe in her arms as he looked ahead. He was sick of being weak and he was sick of everyone just leaving him. He had always been alone and when he wasn't alone, his moments of bliss were taken away from him without him being able to do anything. To be frank, he didn't care anymore. He will take his revenge.
"I think I will be able to stand it. Is it o.k if I call you mum?" Legato replied as she withdrew from her hug. He felt a bit embarrassed to ask, but she had offered him a purpose. A way of life. From now on, Legato knew he wouldn't be alone. No one would leave him. No one would hurt him. In his mind, she was akin to a mother, guiding him. There was no turning back, that he was sure of.
Hook, line, and sinker. She had this lost puppy eating out of her palm like some kind of silly animal. It had been child's play. Nodding her head and embracing Legato, the Cloud of Darkness opened a Dark Corridor.
"Of course, child," she said softly. "Call us whatever you like." She gently prodded him toward the gaping maw of Darkness.
"All you need to do is enter that Corridor of Darkness. Beyond lays whatever worlds your wish to see, whoever it is you wish to meet, and never a moment of that wretched loneliness and weakness you have come to know." Pale, blood-red lips curved upwards in her most enthusiastic and almost predatory grin.
