In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Abby wanders out from the opening in the wall, glancing around at the plaza with curiosity. This was definitely not Vendaval, and the architecture intrigued her. She took a cautious step out onto the cobbled ground, glancing at the brightly colored buildings. She didn't stray far from the wall, despite her nagging urge to explore the place. She only saw a few milling about the plaza, and so far none had noticed her. She wasn't really sure if she wanted to be noticed.
She gripped her shoulder bag with her left hand and used her other hand to shield her eyes from the glare of the sun as she looked up towards the sky. The almost clear sky captivated her, for she was used to the constant storms that ravaged her land. Never before had she felt so...warm! The sun's inviting rays comforted her confused mind and allowed her to think clearly about what had happened.
The last thing she remembered was the horde of shadowy creatures forcing her to the edge of what remained of her home. She recalled the empty blackness that swallowed her from below and wondered at why it had brought her here. She needed answers, and it seemed the only way she was to obtain it was to seek it. Hesitantly, she walked away from the safety of the wall and towards the plaza.
Emi had been wandering around Twilight Town for a while, just exploring places she’d never been to before. Today was the Station Plaza. She’d heard it mentioned in conversations between people before, but never actually felt any real desire to check it out. After all, she didn’t really have any money for a train ticket, and she didn’t even know where she’d go. However, today she was just drawn to the place, probably just to ease her curiosity.
As she reached the top of the slope and arrived at the large open space at the top, Emi noticed a few people just minding their own business, going about their days, none of which really stuck out to her as someone interesting. Except for one. A girl with very light brunette hair, who was carrying a bag on her shoulder. This wasn’t what got Emi’s attention though. She was actually more interesting in the fact that the girl was walking as if lost, rather hesitantly. Normally, this wouldn’t bother Emi one bit, and she’d just ignore her and continue exploring. However, the girl appeared to be carrying swords. Emi figured that she could befriend this girl and explore the rest of the town with her, and let her deal with anything dangerous, mainly those horrible dark monsters.
This thought in her head, Emi wandered over towards the girl with a skip in her step, her twintails flowing in the slight breeze that rarely seemed to stop. She approached the girl from the side, slowing to a walk as she neared her, and when within a couple steps, Emi spoke in her usual bubbly voice. ”You lost?”
Abby didn't notice the girl approach her at first, so when she spoke, she jumped a little in surprise. When she saw that it was only a girl and not a threat, she forced herself to relax her tensed shoulders.
"Oh, um...yeah", she stuttered, trying to find words. This girl might know something about this town, so she ventured a question.
"Uh, do you... know where I am?" She glanced around at the buildings as she spoke, as she was still not sure if she was completely safe from those horrible dark creatures. She didn't exactly trust the tall buildings that surrounded her and considered going back to the mansion. She knew, however, that that was pointless since there wasn't much there for her to use, and she would only get answers from asking around. This plaza was the only area she's seen so far with people walking about. Maybe this girl would show her around and ease her worry.
The girl jumped at the sound of Emi's voice, somewhat unsurprisingly, as Emi had made no attempt to make her presence known before springing a question on the stranger. Said stranger seemed to be rather nervous talking to Emi, due to the stuttering in her words, but the girl did manage to get a question out which Emi was sharp to answer.
”I believe this is the Station Plaza.” Emi answered, but quickly realised the girl may not have wanted an answer of that precision, ”Unless you mean the world itself, which is known as Twilight Town.”
”To be honest, I've only been here for a very short while myself and haven’t really had the chance to look around everywhere.” Which was true, she’d only scratched the surface of Twilight Town during her limited explorations. She didn't wish to stray too far from places with a bunch of people in case she got jumped by the creatures or something equally as dangerous. Speaking of dangerous, Emi’s intentions had never left her mind. She moved in front of the girl, blocking her path. Placing one hand on her hip, Emi pointed in the stranger’s face and quite loudly proclaimed ”You should come explore with me!”
”I believe this is the Station Plaza. Unless you mean the world itself, which is known as Twilight Town.”
Abby pondered for a moment what this meant. She had called this place a "world", so does that mean she's far away from her home? Or did it mean that she was on another planet entirely? Instead of helping her, this only seemed to give her more questions. As the girl continued, she figured she wouldn't be of much help to answer most of her questions, considering she seemed to be in the same boat as she was.
She blinks in surprise and confusion when the girl suddenly stops in front of her and states that they should explore together. After a moment, she realizes that doing so could be beneficial to her. After all, it looks like she's going to be stuck here for a long time, so she might as well familiarize herself with this Twilight Town.
"Uh, sure, I guess," she responded, tilting her head slightly. This girl was quite an interesting character.
”Awesome!” Emi was happy the stranger had actually accepted her request to explore as she wasn’t sure if the girl was in the mood for anything of the sort, especially with a complete stranger. However, Emi hadn’t planned anything further than this point at all. But then again, planning things wasn’t really her strong point. Getting this stranger to come with her exploring for protection was the closest Emi had come to making a proper plan in a long time.
There were only two options that presented themselves now, in Emi’s mind; wander randomly to places the two of them hadn’t been to, or ask her new companion where she wanted to go. Seeing as the first would likely end with them getting horribly lost, or something similar, she decided to go with the second. ”So, any idea where you wanna go explore first?” Emi asked, ”I kinda haven’t thought that far ahead..”
Whilst awaiting an answer, Emi took the chance to give the girl a once over. The main things that stood out were the bright yellow jacket the girl was wearing, along with the jagged lightning-y patterns on her jacket and jeans. This made Emi think this girl may have something to do with lightning, most likely an obsession or something. She wasn’t really sure. Maybe she’d ask at some point during their exploring.
Smiles a bit, mostly to herself. A strange character indeed. She could already tell that this girl was impulsive and a poor planner. That reminded her, neither one of them had introduced themselves. She might as well tell her her name before the gets used to calling her "the girl".
"That's alright. I'm Abby."[/b]She glances around for a moment. "Well, I suppose we could check out those stairs that seem to go underground."
Although she enjoyed the warmth of the sun, she was unused to this level of brightness. She'd rather accustomed to it a little at a time, and that underground tunnel seemed as dark as the overcast days back home. Besides, being around so many strangers was making her nervous. One was enough for her, however she hoped that over time, she'd be able to find friends here that she could trust.
Abby, the girl introduced herself as. "What a nice name..” Emi thought to herself, with doing the polite thing of introducing herself too never even crossing her mind. Instead, she skipped straight to the part where they wandered off to the place Abby suggested. The underground concourse. It was one of the places Emi had never really been, aside from a couple times when she just poked her head in for a quick nose around to see if there was anything interesting in there.
”Alright, let’s go!” Emi announced, as she set off walking to the nearby entrance to the concourse, assuming Abby would follow along with her. She wasn’t sure what they might find in the underground. She certainly hadn’t seen much in her couple nose abouts. It was just really dark with not much to see. Although she hadn’t really ventured too far inside any of the entrances around Twilight Town.
”So why’d you pick the underground? I mean, it’s rather dark and kinda scary..” Not that that actually bugged Emi. She’d just prefer to go somewhere nicer and brighter to start with, but Abby suggested it and Emi had said they’d go where Abby wanted to first. Plus, she had no better ideas herself.
She smiled a bit at the girl's enthusiasm. She seemed to forget to introduce herself, but Abby let that slide. Maybe she'll ask her later. Abby followed after her as she lead the way to the underground.
When she inquired at why she picked the underground, she considered her answer for a moment. It was likely this girl had never heard of her homeland and probably wouldn't understand her newness to bright light. So she said, "I'm like dark places. They tend to hide something exciting." In a way, this was true, although she was used to darkness hiding the sudden flash of lightning, and lightning was exciting, right?
She didn't want to start off on the wrong foot though, she she politely said, "We can go elsewhere if you'd rather not go there.
The two must have different definitions of ‘exciting’, as Emi had never thought of dark places as exciting and even less so what they hide. That being because she thought dark places always hid scary things like monsters. But Emi had a feeling Abby would know what she’s doing if they did happen to run into something bad in the darkness, which eased her a bit.
”Nah, it’s fine” She smiled, ”I’ve wanted to go down there for a while, but I’ve never gotten around to it. So I might as well go now when I’ve got someone to go with!” Emi attempted to cover up her fear with a smile, even though she could feel her hands shaking.
Her fear was not without good reason. She’d spent a good few years alone, hiding from anything that moved in the dark, terrified of what it might be and what it might do to her. Plus, one of the few times she returned to civilization, Emi was attacked by what seemed to be walking darkness itself. And that’d give any girl a damn good reason to be afraid of the dark, if there wasn’t reason enough already.
She noticed her hands shaking, and tried to give her an encouraging smile. "Right. And if we do run into some unexpected surprises, I'll handle them," she said, patting the hilt of her sword lightly. As they entered the underground tunnel, Abby slowed so she could give her eyes time to adjust. Already, she was beginning to relax as she grew closer to the familiar dark. Maybe one day she'll be ready to walk around outside like everyone else, but only baby steps for now.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from?" Abby didn't really mind whether or not she answered, as long as she kept her talking. She learned a long time ago that talking about the familiar distracts you from whatever fear you're feeling. Besides, this girl may have some more information for her to go off of about what exactly happened to her. She was in the same boat as she was, right?
“I’ll handle them.” That’s what Emi was expecting to happen anyway, I mean why carry around a sword if you don’t want to use it. However it did reassure her slightly knowing that Abby thought the same thing she did about any unexpected surprises, as she called them. But Emi was really hoping they didn’t run into anything as they entered the underground. It took her eyes a little while to get used to the quite drastic change in lighting, but she was fine after a couple minutes.
The question the girl then sprung on Emi came as a bit of a surprise. She stopped walking and looked down to the ground as she remembered her home world. She never liked thinking about back then; they weren’t really the nicest of memories to have. ”I’m from a place called Capsule, and I’m not sure what’s happened to it. But I’d rather not talk about it, to be honest.”
Abby listened as they walked into the underground tunnel. Now that her eyes adjusted, she could see the brick walls that made up the maze like underground. She wondered what this place was used for. She noticed a number and an arrow on the wall, as well as a different number above the entrance they came through. Maybe this was some sort of sewage system. Further exploration would help her determine what exactly the purpose of this place was.
Abby nodded when the girl mentioned her reluctance to talk about her homeland. She understood the feeling. Capsule, huh? Never heard of a place like that. Most likely she's never heard of Vendaval, so she didn't bother mentioning it. "Then it seems we're in the same predicament. We should work together to find our way home, don't you think?" She gave her a friendly smile. If she was to find her way home, she was going to need some help. And what better help than someone wanting the same thing?
She stopped in front of a large entrance with a two above it. After a quick glance inside she looked to the girl, “How about we check out this area? I think I hear water dripping.”
Her hands were still shaking, and her knees weren’t too much better. Emi wasn’t sure whether this was just because of her being afraid or if the fact that it was cooler inside these tunnels than it was outside. Plus her attire wasn’t really suited to being anywhere all that cold which didn’t help anything.
She was so busy concentrating on trying to control her shaking limbs that Emi almost missed the idea brought up by Abby. That the two should stick together for a while to find their ways home, due to them both being in similar situations. She wasn’t quite sure of what she thought of this plan. The girl hadn’t really had much experience in working with others, so she didn’t know how to.
Her lapse in concentration also caused her to almost walk into the back of Abby, who had suddenly stopped in front of a large entranceway; however she stopped in time and moved beside her. Emi was about to answer her question when she sprung another on her, this one being a lot simpler though. Did she want to go through entrance or not?
”Uhh, yeah, we can check out that way if you want.” The dripping water didn’t seem like a reason to go that way to Emi though. It seemed more of a reason to not go that way, but she was letting Abby take the lead on this exploration so she went along with it. ”Also, yeah. Sticking together for a while might be a good idea.”
Abby nodded and continued through the entrance. Although the water was mostly just an observation, she was also comforted by the familiar sound. Back home, it rained constantly, so the sound comforted her as it reminded her of home.
After walking down a short hallway, she came to a wide, open area that seemed slightly brighter than before. To her right was an open pipe than dripped water down into a small canal that ran along the east and north walls before disappearing through another pipe. Up ahead seemed to be another pathway that appeared to lead outside, since the light was brighter from there. Upon closer examination, she noticed a gate blocking the exit. Apparently, no one was allowed to go out this way. She turned back and examined the open area. After a few minutes of looking around in the dim light, she turns to leave when a familiar presence stops her. Before her, four shadows rise out of the ground, their bodies twitching as their yellow eyes look back and forth at both girls. Without hesitation, Abby draws her sword and prepares for attack.
