In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Oswald asked Max where he had come from, but before the soldier could answer, Avari explained to the man-rabbit that he had traveled between worlds and that he had been to Twilight Town before. Oswald, after making the cat creature disappear in a flash of light, mentioned how he should avoid the old mansion. The girl was quick to agree with him before mentioning how they had almost died due to a large Heartless.
“Well, I don’t think I’ve ever had a reason to go to the mansion anyway,” Max said with a shrug, “As far as where i came from, like Avari said, I’ve been traveling the worlds. Before here, I was in a place called Atlantis. But I’m originally from a kingdom called Dryden, on my homeworld of Grendam.”
He suddenly realized that he had been so busy back on Atlantis that he hadn’t thought of his home in ages. The realization was accompanied by a brief but intense homesickness. He brushed those feelings aside, though. He may have only just arrived in Twilight Town, but these people needed his help. He wasn’t sure if pitching in would prevent the world from being taken by the Heartless into darkness, but he had to try.
“Both Atlantis and Grendam are gone though,” he continued after a momentary silence, “The last thing I remember before waking up here is the Heartless taking the Heart of Atlantis.”
Max paused momentarily as Avari mentioned Tram Common and how he might find someone he knew there. It struck him that he didn’t have any family left, and very possibly none of his friends were either. If any of his friends were still around, though, his money would be on the tall, black haired pyromancer.
“Yeah, let’s head to Tram Common,” he told them both quietly, “And while we’re on the subject, neither of you would have happened across a tall, black haired guy who controls fire, would you? Answers to the name Mikhail.”
As Oswald heard that two more worlds were gone he audibly sighed, but quickly turned towards Tram Common. "No not that I'm aware, I haven't seen any one like that. Did see a guy in a cloak with a Keyblade, know him?" He said to Max not looking at him, as he started to walk towards Tram Common. Oops almost forgot, he pulled out the stone again and concentrated and in a brilliant flash the cat was gone.
As he neared the edge of the Sandlot he noticed a poster for something called the Struggle, what a weird game. "Anyway, Avari anything new happen with you?" He asked Avari motioning his hand to her. "Anyway, hope you you can find a nice place to sleep or something as there really isn't a lot of houses left, I usually sleep on the roof of the center shop, but it's not really comfy. But hey, you got to find a weird place to sleep if you want to live here."
Avari frowned at Oswald's question to Max about the hooded figure they saw at the mansion. Was it possible that the hooded figure came from the same place at Max here? Avari hadn't seen them as connected, especially considering new refugees appear in Twilight Town every day; Max appearing shortly after they encountered the hooded figure didn't mean anything. Upon Max's mention of his friend Mikhail though, Avari had to shrug and shake her head. Sure she knew there were other people who could use fire magic, but if it was anything like Max's ability to control water, she certainly didn't know anyone like that. Still, it wouldn't hurt to look around for this Mikhail for Max's sake, so Avari took a few steps ahead of them and started to lead the way to Tram Common.
As Oswald asked what she had been up to, Avari glanced back at him over her shoulder for a moment before laughing uncomfortably, "No, but I was thinking about investigating the manor some more. Maybe the hooded figure will go back there at some point, orrrr maybe there's some sort of clue as to who that person is, and what they were doing here in the first place."
She grew quiet as they continued along the alley towards Market Street. Her thoughts lingered on something Max said then, and she couldn't help but ask, now that it had come to mind. She glanced back at him and asked, "What did you mean by 'the heart of Atlantis'?"

Max paused as Oswald asked about a man in a cloak with a keyblade. He knew of keyblade wielders, but he had never actually met any of them. It was just as well for him, though. He didn’t much care of the supposed Protectors of the Light. They seemed to fail spectacularly at every turn and were never around where they were truly needed, such as Twilight Town in its current state. He shook his head, as much to answer Oswald’s question as to stop his angry thoughts about the keyblade wielders before he stewed on them for too long. The rabbit-sized rabbit then turned to Avari and asked about her, almost as if they hadn’t just had to fight off a rather large group of Heartless.
Oh well, the soldier thought with a small, silent smile, At least he doesn’t act all gloomy and doomy like I do.
“I’ll go with you, if you don’t mind the company,” Max said as Avari mentioned investigating the mansion for clues as to the identity of the mystery keyblader, “Something tells me going there alone would be a bad idea.”
Silence clung to the air between them for several moments after that, until the young girl broke it with a question.
“What did you mean by ‘the Heart of Atlantis’?”
Max let out a long, quiet sigh before responding. He began by telling them about the expedition out of Traverse Town, then moved on to their encounter with the Leviathan and how it had disabled his gummi ship. Finally, he told them of his time on Atlantis: how he had been marooned, alone, in a cave and how he had eventually found his way to the sunken city only to find the expedition had departed again already. He described the wonders of the city and the source of power they used in everyday life: the heart of their world itself.
Finally, he came to describe the world’s fight against the sudden onslaught of the Heartless and his role in it all.
“The last thing I remember is hearing that they had reached the center of the city, where the Heart was,” he said, one hand gripping the pommel of his sheathed word in frustration as he spoke, “I pulled my men back toward the center, but I was the only one that made it to the square. By the time I got there it was too late. The Heartless were all over the Heart. Then, everything went black and I woke up here.”
Oswald stopped in his tracks at Maxwell's story remembering the Heartless swarm on the street, he shivered at the memory but quickly started walking towards Tram Common. "If we're going to the mansion you should be ready. Like I said a giant heartless, as you called it, was there. Hopefully it's gone now, but you can never be too careful." As he said this he patted his pockets.
"Ah, I forgot, unlike my cat, I can't heal. However I can make a blast of freezing ice using this," as he said this he turned around and pulled out the star shaped blizzard materia, "These things are amazing! And are really cheap actually, there pretty easy to use too," as he said this he put the crystal back in hi pocket and turning around again. "Anyway, this way."
As Max began explaining all that had happened to him, Avari slowly came to a stop and turned to him to listen. He told them about his time spent in a place called Twilight Town, and a run-in with something he called the Leviathan, and how it wrecked his gummi ship which then landed him in Atlantis. By the way he described Atlantis, he seemed to have spent quite some time there, stranded, but Avari had to admit, Atlantis sounded like it had been a beautiful place. Max described the Heart of Atlantis as being the center of the city, and powered everything. Avari really couldn't imagine what something like that would look like, but as he continued with his story, telling them how the heartless had reached the heart, and then everything went black, and he woke up here.
His story was not dissimilar from many others, including Avari's. Just hearing him talk about his experience brought the memories to the surface, and she couldn't help but look down at her feet in thought for a moment. Was this how the heartless were destroying all the other worlds? By seeking an important part of a world, was that somehow enough to completely destroy her home? Is that what the heartless were after here in Twilight Town? Avari wasn't sure, but Max seemed to know a lot about it.
She shook herself out of her thoughts and gave Max a brief nod, "That's pretty rough. Sorry." She scratched the back of her head before leading the way again as they entered Tram Common. As Max then spoke up about wanting to investigate the mansion, as well as Oswald it seemed, she shrugged, "Yeah, it probably is dangerous, I wouldn't mind some backup. I'm not going yet though; if that beast taught me anything its that I need some kind of weapon before going back there." Though Oswald's and Max's magic were definitely effective, when it came to Avari, she imagined strength a bit differently. She thought of Jin, and how his lightning swords sliced right through heartless. She felt like her fire wasn't enough, and it made no difference to the heartless if she was alone. Once they closed distance with her, she would be left wide open. She wanted to fix that before she headed straight into the path of danger again.
Glancing around Tram Common, she asked, "See anyone you recognize, Max? The only tall black-haired guy I've seen was awhile ago, and he used this sword- I never caught his name, and I didn't see him control fire, so I don't know if he's the guy you're looking for. I haven't seen him since that one time either." She turned back to Max, worried about dashing his hopes, "But don't worry, your friend could still be here! I mean we can't even get to Sunset Terrace, there could be loads of people on the other side who can't reach us."

As Quick related what happened in Atlantis, he took note of how Oswald and Avari reacted. He could tell that the stories of how they had come here were both similar to his own. While not surprised, he felt sympathy towards the two of them. He had experienced the destruction of a world at the hands of the heartless before Atlantis, on his homeworld. The thought brought back painful memories.
“I don’t need any sympathy Avari. I’ve been through much worse before,” he quietly responded to the girl’s expression of sympathy. As he spoke, he was lost in memories of what had happened back on his homeworld. The image of his childhood friend’s shocked face as Max ran him through rose unbidden to his mind. He let them linger longer than he should have, momentarily unable to will them away.
By the time his thoughts were back in Twilight Town, they had already reached Tram Common. Avari was mentioning how she had only run into one person that might match Mikhail’s description, but that it had been a long time ago. The Drydenian turned his head to look around the Tram Common, his eyes quickly scanning the crowd as Avari said he might be in the now unreachable Sunset Terrace.
“If he’s here, I’ll find him,” he said, shaking his head, “I think I need a day or two of rest for now, though. That magic cat helped, but I still feel drained.”
Oswald looking around Tram Common couldn't see the person that Max described in any sense. The shops were all open and there's nothing out of the ordinary there. If anything it looked like it was an average day. “If he’s here, I’ll find him,” Maxwell said, shaking his head, “I think I need a day or two of rest for now, though. That magic cat helped, but I still feel drained.” Oswald looking towards Maxwell could still see the effects his battle had on him.
"Well look around try to find somewhere to sleep, I guess. I have to go buy something for a bit. See you guys later," Oswald said while walking towards the Materia shop while waving back at them. Looking towards the rows and rows of Materia he thought about what he should buy.
