In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

What was the inspiration for them / do they embody a particular feeling or emotion?
Jealousy and Envy center heavily as Edmund's character themes. He grew up in a family of wealthy elites; throughout his life he had wanted for naught. All he could possibly wish for was granted to him, and he had servants to take care of any and all needs. He was treated like a Prince in his own home for as long as he could remember, and with minimal parental guidance, he grew up to be quite selfish and self-centered.
Name: Edmund Egon
Nickname: He doesn't like nicknames; either call him Edmund or Mr. Egon, if he happens to give his last name.
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Gifted
Being Type: Nobody
Position: Neutral Evil (Selfish in Nature)
Appearance: Edmund stands at a height of 6"1 and weighs 149 lb. He appears rather frail, with his tall, but lanky frame. He has short, thick, ashen hair with bangs that often fall in front of his face. His eyes are a steely gray that always appear distant and indifferent, and his skin is as pale as winter snow. He tends to bundle up in coats and scarves, and only wears clothes of the finest quality.
Edmund Egon spent the entirety of his life within the confines of his home, the Egon manor, located on Soraria. For as long as he could remember, Edmund had been weak and frail due to some unknown ailment; whatever it was had also taken his mother's life during his birth. His father, Dominik Egon, was the founder of the Egon Corporation, the largest and most successful company in the medical field across all of Tamnia. Dominik was often away on business due to his work, so Edmund had free reign of the house most of the time, at least when he wasn’t bedridden, and there was plenty of staff around the manor to help Edmund with whatever he needed, and a private tutor to keep his mind sharp and even entertain him on the most boring days. However, there was one rule that Dominik made clear to all of the staff: no one is to touch the young Edmund Egon. Edmund’s father was very protective, claiming that any contact with other people could worsen his illness. Even Dominik himself kept his distance during his brief stays at home.
So from childhood up until he turned 18, Edmund had a strict schedule that his father devised. Every morning he would have breakfast in bed, accompanied by two red pills that always left a metallic taste in his mouth, no matter how delicious his meal had been. After that, his nurse Agatha would escort him by wheelchair to the library, where he would spend several hours with his private tutor learning every possible thing a company heir ought to know. Edmund happened to be rather studious as well, so he always enjoyed his lessons. And once he finished his lessons with his tutor, Mr. Inama, Edmund would eat lunch in the dining room (or out in the garden, if the weather was willing), often alone or with Agatha’s company. The rest of the day Edmund could do as he pleased until supper was ready, unless it was time for his weekly blood samples to be taken and sent to his father’s lab. And once the day was at an end, the next morning he would start the same schedule up all over again.
He may have been a studious young boy, but that didn’t mean he never got bored. Often times the only person he could talk to was Miss Agatha, as Mr. Inama required privacy whenever he wasn’t lecturing Edmund. Sometimes he and Agatha would spend their time in the library reading their separate books, but still keeping one another company. Other times, Edmund would bring his random questions to her about interesting facts he had read about in his books, and occasionally he would ask about the current news going on in the world, or what the Egon Corporation was up to. Edmund spent his entire life in his father's mansion, so the only way he knew about what went on in Tamnia was from asking his staff or reading up on the latest news in the papers.
By the age of 8, he was reading the heaviest texts in the library, and he possessed a vocabulary fit for a scholar. Due to all his time spent feeling ill and isolated from the rest of the world, Edmund had little else to do than read all that his father’s library had to offer. He wished to one day be strong enough to make his father proud as the new CEO of the Egon Corporation, and gaining as much knowledge as he could seemed to be the best thing he could do, until his father found the cure to his ailment.
As he began to reach young adulthood, however, his father seemed to take little interest in mentoring him and teaching him the ways he would one day run the Egon Corporation. Edmund gradually started questioning his father about it on the rare occasions he had been home and not on one business trip or another. Mr. Egon always skirted the subject, explaining to Edmund that he wasn't ready for such responsibilities, but never quite explaining his reasoning. He always treated Edmund with a cold distance, so Edmund could never push the subject enough to get answers. Was his father ever going to think he was ready? Was it because of his illness? Edmund eventually believed this to be the case and tried to start doing things for himself, however difficult it was in his condition, just to prove to himself and his father that he was capable. He even started slipping an extra dose of his medication here and there to try and feel better, and while it did help, it didn't seem to be enough.
Miss Agatha worried for him, and tried to get him to rest and let her help him, but he would become more agitated and refuse her. Edmund was frustrated by how pathetic he was, and how helpless he was in his situation. He wouldn't be able to survive without the help of his servants and the medication his father provided. And all the while, his father still hadn't found a cure to whatever ailed him. It was agonizing, being unable to do anything to better his situation and gain his father's confidence. And soon, Edmund had pushed himself too far, far enough for Miss Agatha to break the most important rule as Edmund's servant. He had climbed one of the ladders in the library in order to reach a very high book only to slip and collapse onto the floor. Agatha rushed to his aid, fearing for his life as the blood seeped from his skull. She cried for help as she lifted his head off the floor and tried to hold the back of his head and keep the blood from spilling any further. But upon contact, she felt her energy draining from her, and soon her vision became clouded, and she collapsed beside Edmund. And as she grew weaker, his wound began to seal up, and his eyes fluttered open. As he glanced over, Miss Agatha lay dead at his side, her skin pale as snow and dark veins stretching across from her hand all across the rest of her body. Edmund was terrified, and as he jerked away from her instinctively, he found that he felt stronger: he was capable of standing with ease, as though his illness had been shaken off completely.
He panicked, knowing that someone would come running soon, and that whatever killed Miss Agatha had something to do with him. He was all too slow to realize this was the reason his father forbid anyone from touching him. And before he could do anything to conceal the nurse's remains, Mr. Inama entered the room and saw everything: Agatha dead on the floor, Edmund standing over her with the panicked look painted across his face. Edmund didn't know what to do, he didn't even think as he clumsily rushed towards his teacher and with trembling hands grabbed the man who had started retreating to the door. Mr. Inama struggled at first, but slowly began losing his strength the longer Edmund stayed latched onto him. It wasn't long before the man crumpled to the floor with his skin pale and covered in dark veins, just like Miss Agatha. Edmund could feel even more strength had poured into him. He had to use this new found energy to hide the evidence of what he had done by burying the corpses in the garden, and covering up his tracks.
He spent the next several days probing the remaining staff for information, and feigning ignorance about Miss Agatha's and Mr. Inama's whereabouts. It was difficult, as he was still in shock after all that had happened, but no one seemed to cast suspicion on him, nor did anyone appear to have any knowledge of Edmund's power to begin with. Did anyone know about him? His mind stuck to one thing: his father forbade anyone from coming into contact with Edmund. For all his life, the reasoning had been that Edmund was far too sick, and could easily contract something worse due to his weak immune system. Now, however, that didn't seem to be the case at all. His father had spent years taking blood samples to research and to "find a cure" for Edmund's supposed illness. If his father had been lying all along, then what was he really using the blood for?
Edmund eventually had no choice but to confront his father about this. He demanded to know the truth, how much Dominik knew, and why he hadn't told Edmund what he really was. His father, a man who normally treated him with a cold indifference, now stood from his desk and kept his distance from Edmund. He seemed worried of what Edmund might do to him, now that Edmund had discovered what he was capable of.
"Why didn't you tell me, father? Were you worried about your reputation?" Edmund had said, but upon seeing his father standing on the opposite end of the study with his back to the wall.
"Don't be ridiculous, Edmund."
"Ridiculous? Ridiculous is letting your son grow up believing he's sick!" As he spoke, Edmund walked slowly to through the room, closing the gap between him and his father.
"You are sick. Can you imagine what would happen if the world found out about you? You would be shipped off to some facility to be researched and experimented on. You'd never see the light of day again!"
"Doesn't sound all that different from how I've grown up here father. You mean to say that you haven't done your own research on me? What exactly have you been extracting my blood for all these years?"
"Please, Edmund, lower your voice! You don't want the servants hearing about this do you?"
"No, you don't want them to know. Now tell me the truth."
His father grew quiet for a moment and Edmund stood on the opposite side of his desk. With a defeated sigh, Mr. Egon turned his papers around for Edmund to see. The documents detailed the effects of a serum derived from Edmund's blood. While this serum would have proved fatal to an ordinary person, individuals who were Gifted seemed to have some resistance to it, and rather than killing them, it seemed to dull the effects of their powers for period of time that varied from subject to subject.
As Edmund finished reading the document, Mr. Egon withdrew a small case from his inner coat pocket and inside it was a small vial of dark liquid as well as an empty syringe. Apparently this was a sample of the serum that had been concocted from his blood and just such a serum was even used against the more deadly Gifted in order to subdue them, but it was far from any cure to a Gifted's innate abilities.
"I'm a resource to you then. Tell me, were you ever going to let me leave this place? Were you ever going to pass down the company to me?"
"Edmund, it's dangerous, if anyone found out-"
"No father, I'm dangerous!" As Edmund raised his voice and took a step closer, his father recoiled. Edmund paused, and his anger boiled over as he came to the realization, "And you're afraid of me- your own son!" Edmund stepped closer, his expression becoming more and more frustrated.
"Please, Edmund, be reasonable..." His father started trembling as his back pressed against the icy window behind him. "You don't have to do this. There's more going on here than you realize!"
"Because of you, Miss Agatha is dead! If I had known sooner- I, could have avoided all of this!" His voice broke mid-sentence as the tears began to swell in his eyes, and he grabbed his father by the collar of his suit, "You think I'm the monster? You are! And if you think I'm gonna go back to the way things were, you're sorely mistaken!" The question was then, what did Edmund plan to do? He knew so little about what his father had been doing all these years, and there was no way his father would tell him the whole story. Now that Edmund knew the truth about his powers, he'd never be allowed to take over the Egon Corporation; his father was in the way. "I'm taking the company from you. I won't be your tool any longer!"
And with that, Edmund forced his hand over Mr. Egon's face. His father let out muffled screams, but just like the others, he eventually lost his strength and fell limp to the floor. Edmund stood over him gasping for breath as the adrenaline pumped through him, and the longer as he stared at his father's lifeless form, the more his own hands began to tremble. Suddenly a scream echoed from further down the hall, and Edmund spun around towards the door. One of the servants bursted through, claw marks raking across her skin and blood seeping from the wounds.
"They're coming Mr. Egon! You have to get out while you still can- Mr. Egon...?" She stared at Dominik Egon's corpse on the floor, and the shock was clear in her face as she then looked to Edmund. Whatever had frightened her was a much more pressing matter though, as she immediately started warning Edmund, "You have to get out Edmund, dark creatures have invaded the manor! They've already killed most of the others!"
"What? What are you talking about?!"
"Just go!" She glanced back out the door and gasped, "Oh no... it's too late."
Edmund watched as from around the corner, a dozen little black creatures flowed into the room, leaping on the servant and clawing at her as she screamed bloody murder. It wasn't long before her screams were silenced, and the creatures came after him next. He felt to the ground beside his father as they swarmed over him, and no matter how much he squirmed and tried to push them away, his struggle seemed useless. He screamed in agony as their claws raked against his flesh. He turned over and reached for something, anything he could use to fight back. One hand reached the little black case containing one blood vial and syringe, and the other hand caught his father's cane, which he immediately started using to try to whack away the heartless that were attacking him. There were too many of them, and as the blood seeped from his form, the last thing he saw through the window above him was a massive orb of dark energy, and then his vision went black.
When he awakens, he will find himself in Twilight Town.
Current Primary Objective: To better understand the creatures that killed him, and to find out how he survived the ordeal. He knows little about heartless or nobodies, so starting out he won't understand that he is a nobody. He simply is aware of something missing within him, nothing more. And once his memory is more clear, he will be unable to deny that he should be dead, after his encounter with the heartless on his home world.
Learning type: Auditory
Personality: Edmund is a curious sort at heart, always wanting to further his understanding of the world, though due to his isolation as a child, he can seem somewhat strange to most folk. He seems to take odd pauses during conversation to sort through his thoughts, almost as though he's forgotten the person he's talking to, or that they aren't important enough to him to deserve an immediate response. While he is well-mannered otherwise, he treats those around him with a cold distance, never quite acting friendly without becoming outright hostile. It's always difficult to tell if he's really on your side or not, and in reality, his stance can change on a whim. There are few people in the worlds who can garner his respect.
Home World: Tamnia
Natural Affinities/Abilities/Skills:
Life Sap: Through physical contact, Edmund can absorb someone's life force in order to restore his own health. The amount he takes depends on how long he is in contact with the target. At first, it is difficult to notice that his touch is hurting the individual, but the longer he holds on, the more apparent it becomes. Statistically speaking, he drains 10 HP per post from the target so long as he remains in contact. And in doing so, uses up 20 MP of his own per post in order to do this.
Intellectual: Once he discovers that he can harness magic through the use of materia, he will find that he has quite a knack for them. Though he has never encountered magic like this before, the fact that it is a new power available to him, he'll be determined to learn and master any new materia he comes across. He's also an avid reader, and finding information through books is his preferred methodology. He knows a lot about a wide variety of things relevant to his homeworld Tamnia. As he spends more time in Twilight Town, he will attempt to gain as much information as he can so he can learn to adapt to this new environment.
Empty Vessel: Being a nobody and all, all the heartless Edmund encounters seem to pay him little attention, and he can bend the lesser nobodies to his will. Any beings of higher intelligence, however, is a bit more troublesome, and Edmund tries to steer clear for the most part. It's likely that the more intelligent heartless would see him as a threat, and any high ranking nobodies may seen him as an annoyance if he starts controlling lesser nobodies and muck up their plans.
Limitations/Drawbacks:
Leech: Edmund's gift is more so a curse. He grows weak without feeding off someone's life force, and no matter how he goes about it, he has to hurt other people just to get by. It's not that he's against harming others, in fact he could care less. However, the more he uses his powers to drain someone else's energy, the more he puts himself at risk of being discovered. If people found him dangerous, they might target him, and that would be rather inconvenient.
Weak: Physically, Edmund is quite frail, and easily overpowered. To be frank, even if given the opportunity to learn how to fight, he wouldn't have the fortitude for it. He is entirely aware that his skill set relies on mind over matter type scenarios. He will eventually train himself to be quite diverse with magic, but seeing as it is magic, he would prefer to remain ranged in combat, and anywhere near melee range puts him at a disadvantage.
Incomplete: He has no heart, being a Nobody, despite remembering what it was like when he was whole. Due to this, he is rather narrow-minded in the sense that he only sees what will benefit himself, and he cares little for the needs of others (Not that he was all that different when he was a Somebody, he is just simply unable to learn to care for others while remaining an empty shell of what he once was.)
Passive:
Heartborn Nightshade
Weapon: An ornate ebony black cane that once belonged to his father. It has a gold trim around the handle and collar as well as the heel of the cane. While it's not suited for direct combat, it's possible Edmund could use it to channel magic. When he begins to collect materia, he'll fasten them to the cane's wrist cord for ease of use. It also contains a secret compartment within the handle.
Role Playing Sample: Edmund sat, legs crossed in his lounge chair as he read in the comfort of the study. A rather restless expression on his face as he stared unmovingly at the page in front of him. He didn't flip through to the next page, but instead kept his gaze on the information before him. His fingers tapped impatiently against the arm chair. Eventually, one of his maids, Helena entered with a tray of tea and biscuits. Seeing her enter, Edmund began reading the passage aloud, "Leeches: a segmented worm that belong to the phylum Annelida and comprise the subclass Hirudinea... The best-known leeches, such as the medicinal leech, Hirudo medicinalis, are hematophagous, feeding on vertebrate blood and invertebrate hemolymph. Most leech species, however, are predatory, feeding primarily by swallowing other invertebrates..." When he finished, he glanced up to see Helena setting the tray on the end table beside him, adding in precisely the amount of sugar Edmund liked.
"Honestly Edmund, wouldn't you rather read about something else? I know, I could fetch you that book on desert wildlife!"
He intentionally ignored her offer, taking the cup of tea as he continued studying the page, "I find these parasitic creatures interesting, actually. I imagine it would be painful, to die by hundreds of the little creatures sucking the life out of you. Wouldn't you say, Miss Helena?"
The maid frowned as she folded her hands in front of her, "Yes, it sounds quite awful. Are you certain you wouldn't like to read one of your other books?"
"No, this suits me just fine for the moment, thank you." He paused for a moment, taking a sip of tea before asking, "Have you seen Miss Agatha this morning? She's normally the one to serve my tea."
Helena shook her head, "I have not. Perhaps she had some errands to run."
"Perhaps. And what about Mr. Inama? I was under the impression that he had planned my next lesson for today."
"I haven't seen him either; would you like me to go fetch him for you Edmund?"
Good. She didn't seem to have any suspicions about what happened to them, or that both of the previously mentioned individuals were now corpses buried in the garden outside.
"No, it's fine, I'll just do some private study today. Could you set up a meeting with my father though? I wish to speak with him."
The moogle shuffles through a mountain of books and papers scattered across her desk. She finally raises her paw for what she'd been looking for: it's a stamper.
A few papers tumble off the desk and to the floor. Eh. They look old anyway. "Sorry for the delay, quiet one!" She pulls the cap off the stamp feature and stamps your work with the appropriate permanent mark.
