Student Intern at Muteki CorpCurrent Primary Objective: Find Yuuki and get back home.
Learning type: Visual
Home World: San Fransokyo
Passive:Heartborn SanctumWeapon: Virus Driver: A device Yuuki has given her that allows her to bring the power of videogames into reality and help fight off the forces of darkness. By inserting a change cartridge into the Virus Driver, the user can access armor and weapons based around the videogame character specific to the change cartridge. Mai has a total of two cartridges: Toki Meki Crisis and DoReMiFa Beat (See appearance for visual descriptions).
- Toki Meki Crisis: Based on a dating sim from which this change cartridge is named, the user is given access to armor similar to the main character from Toki Meki Crisis. This form offers Mai increased acrobatics and agility, allowing her to jump higher and longer distances as well as maneuver around attacks more easily. The Toki Meki Crisis form has the potential to dodge anything from simple melee attacks to bullets or other projectiles, but Mai will need a lot more practice to really get the hang of it.
She can also wield her Virus Driver as a weapon. It acts as both a long range and close range weapon. The side with the "A" button shoots like a gun and the side with the "B" button hits like a chainsaw. When this weapon isn't being used, she keeps it on her belt, though this is her only means of attack while in this form. - DoReMiFa Beat: Based on a rhythm game from which this change cartridge is named, Mai gains access to a somewhat armored form wielding an electric guitar. This form's functionality derives from the music played, but her mobility is limited to her own human constraints. And the only form of attack she has is a blast of sonic energy, which she invokes by striking the strings of her guitar. The remainder of the abilities derived from this form are more supportive to herself and allies, rather than harming enemies directly.
She can support herself and allies with the use of three different melodies; one casting a healing aura encircling her in a wide radius, one allowing herself and nearby allies to move more quickly than what normally be possible, and then finally she is also able to invoke a melody to slow down enemies in a small radius around her. This form acts as a means of creating openings for her allies to strike enemies down, and to keep her allies healthy during battle. Not to mention the sort of morale boost her music can have in general for her allies.
Appearance: Mai TenjukuThough Mai is a few years younger than her sibling, Yuuki, she is around the same height as them. She has dirty blonde hair that she typically pulls back into pigtails, and she has bright green eyes. She tends towards wearing sweater vests, ties and skirts, along with a long coat, as she prefers to look as presentable as possible when attending classes or helping out at Muteki Corp. She also has a tendency to wear a set of wireless headphones around her neck, so she can listen to music while she's on the go, or is busy concentrating on a project.
Toki Meki Crisis ArmorWhen in Toki Meki Crisis form, Mai dons pink and yellow armor. Her helmet is shaped like short pink hair with a heart shaped headband. Her visor displays a pair of blue eyes, and two pink circles as though she were blushing. The rest of the form is similar, having the look of a yellow dress, boots, and gloves, but the hardiness of actual armor. Being an air tight suit, this could shield her from the darkness for a time, though it is not full proof.
DoReMiFa Beat ArmorMai’s DoReMiFa Beat armor has more of a red and yellow color scheme, and she wields a guitar in this form. This outfit also appears to be similar to a dress with knee length armored boots as well as gloves, a long trailing scarf. She also wears a helmet, though the visor only covers her eyes, and is not air tight like her Tokumeki Crisis armor. This form doesn’t seem as durable as her other armor either, as it is meant for supporting other combatants on the field.
Personality: Mai has always been a kind and curious girl. She treats everyone she meets with the utmost kindness, and will always go out of her way to help make other people's lives a little easier. And while she tends to be forgetful and easily distracted, Mai is a very positive girl who doesn’t let much get her down, or at least. She's also incredibly empathetic, often putting others' feelings before her own and trying her best to make sure everyone gets along. She'll even go as far as trying to understand the motives behind someone who can be seen as a bad person, because she doesn't believe anyone can be truly evil, or at least, there's always a chance to turn over a new leaf. Due to this, she's very forgiving, and is more likely to smile and forget about the bad things rather than hold a grudge.
But just like Yuuki relied on videogames to learn how to interact with other people, Mai found herself relying on music to express herself. She spends so much of her energy trying to understand and connect with other people, and sharing music has been one way she related to others. Her tendency to be easily distracted has also led her to have many interests, such as drawing, playing music, writing, coding. Her curiosity has also led her to research a lot of things that piqued her interest, so she tends to have a lot of random facts when socializing with people.
Natural Affinities/Abilities/Skills:Multifaceted: Due to her ever changing interests growing up, Mai has come to know at little bit about a wide variety of subjects. Since childhood, she has learned to play several musical instruments, learned a little bit about coding and computers from her sibling Yuuki and their friends at Muteki Corp. She has a basic grasp about how to draw, and enjoys sketching in her notebooks. While she performs adequately when it comes to her core subjects in school (language arts, math, science, history), her real interests lie in artistic expression, whether it be through music or other media.
Empathetic: Mai has always felt she could relate to other people easily, capable of placing herself in their shoes in order to attempt to understand how they're feeling. Seeing others in pain, whether physical or emotional, affects her deeply and she often wants to help whoever she can. Sometimes that means sharing her lunch with a homeless man on the street corner, other times it means being the shoulder for someone to cry on. But being around people who are happy also has an affect on her, so she enjoys being around light-hearted people who are kind like she is.
Limitations/Drawbacks:Easily Distracted: When doing something of little interest to her, Mai can find her attention becoming quite scattered. And when that happens, small things like people talking, or repetitive sounds tend to draw her away from the task at hand. It's not something she does intentionally, but when something must be done, and she's anxious or distracted, she has to devote a lot of energy into making sure she remains on task. And though it may seem contradictory, when it comes to things she feels passionate about, she tends to hyperfocus, to the point of not being aware of her own surroundings, and forgetting to eat sleep, etc.
Gullible: Mai always tries to believe the best in people, and she can be somewhat naive when it comes to trusting others. She's far too trusting, and does not have a good sense of people's intentions. She would rather be supportive of others rather than question their purpose. And she's never been great at spotting lies either.
History: Mai has been a bright, cheery girl since a very young age; always smiling, always laughing. She spent a lot of time with her sibling, Yuuki, which often meant playing videogames. She was never as good at gaming as Yuuki, but she enjoyed playing with him nonetheless, often times leaning towards a more supportive role if the videogame offered the option. Beyond that, Mai found herself making new friends everywhere she went, whether in school, around the city etc. Her and Yuuki's parents worried about how trusting Mai was, and would often ask Yuuki to look out for her and keep her out of trouble. Of course this often meant Mai would drag Yuuki headlong into a lot of social encounters, but there were a lot of situations where Yuuki did help her out of trouble in the big city of San Fransokyo. There was always so much diversity in San Fransokyo, Mai found herself being drawn to new and exciting things, like the street performers playing music, hidden away cafes with pretty decor. Wherever she and her sibling went, Mai loved finding new experiences.
Education was never too much of a challenge for Mai, especially having an older sibling like Yuuki to help her from time to time, but she was never fully interested in school. She would forget to turn in assignments every now and then, push off studying till the last minute, all because she was distracted by other things like hanging out with her friends, enjoying herself, etc. It didn't affect her grades too much from elementary to high school, however, because the material wasn't all that difficult. She managed to get solid A's and B's throughout her education, but she couldn't decide who she wanted to be when she grew up. Her and Yuuki were different in that regard; Yuuki had decided to design videogames before they even finished high school. Mai's interests were so diverse, she didn't know where she would best fit. She dabbled a little with remixing music and sometimes making her own tunes, but she also liked drawing, and even learned some programming because she thought Yuuki's work was really cool.
Mai was still in high school when the big fire took place at the Institute of Technology's science fair, so she really only heard about it through the news. It was sad to hear that two people had died, but it was just news after all, so Mai simply kept on going on. Her mind was too focused on trying to decide what she would do after high school; her parents, her counselor, and occasionally even Yuuki would frequently ask her what she would be doing after she graduated. It was a question that loomed over her for the tail end of her senior yeah in high school. She'd give her family a different answer each time they asked, however. Some days she would tell them she'd be a DJ, other days it was becoming a programmer so she could hang out with Yuuki at work, who at that point was already creating super popular games like Taddle Quest, Bang Bang Shooting, Dangerous Zombie, and of course, Mighty Brothers X. On some days though, Mai found herself wanting to help people as a career, but what sort of job would be good for that; what sort of job would be a good fit for her? There were some people who thought she would get into making videogames like Yuuki, simply because she was their little sister. Mai wasn't sure, but she knew she wanted to find her own path.
On the day the masked man attacked Krei Tech, Mai was on a bus heading home not too far off from the event. She could see the crazy portal in the sky sucking everything up, and before she was evacuated to a safe distance along with many other citizens, she caught glimpses of five heroes flying through the air to save the day. After that, Mai became fixated on those heroes, and once she learned they also attended SFIT, she decided she wanted to enroll. It helped that her brother attended the school as well, and Mai wanted to help the world through the use of technology. She just had to come up with the perfect invention to bring to the next SFIT science fair in order to get in. Thankfully coming up with ideas is something that runs in the family; Mai was quick to focus on what sort of device would help others. So she focused on what would help her personally, hoping that others would also find a use for it. It's always been more difficult for her to remain on task as she went through school. So she got to work on a device that could help her with that. She was determined to do this on her own power, so she did all the research she could on her own, gathering whatever information she needed to accomplish her task.
It took many, many sleepless nights, but finally she had her entry for the SFIT science fair: a small digital wristwatch that was programmed with a self-improving AI that would keep track of her personal schedule, as well as remind her when to eat, exercise, and sleep. Well, that had been the concept behind it anyways. It was an incredibly complex project, one which Mai did not possess enough time or expertise to accomplish, but she managed to create something to present at the fair. While it didn't contain all the functions she wanted, she had enough of to impress the faculty members, and while she didn't earn a scholarship, she did gain entry into the school.
She also gained the attention of Muteki Corp once she started attending SFIT and learning more about the tools that technology could offer her, and the company hired her on as a student intern to help them on a special project. In turn, they would assist financially with her schooling, and there would be a good chance that she could be hired on a full time employee once she graduated. Not only did she get to hang out with Yuuki more often, but she also got to meet a lot of his friends and coworkers, such as Aku, who was kind enough to teach Mai a few tricks of the trade here and there, and help her excel at Muteki Corp.
When Yuuki eventually went on to become Quester, using Muteki Corp's technology coupled with his videogames to team up with Aku and Asuna to fight crime, Mai couldn't have been more proud (Not to mention she was already a big fan of superheroes like the Big 6 Heroes). She wanted to join them too, but Yuuki was adamant about keeping her out of it, as it was too dangerous. So instead she focused on doing what she could to help them on the sidelines, and worked with the team that developed a rough AI bot system that could help the Game Driver users fight, as well as upgrade their forms.
After the events that lead to San Fransokyo's destruction, Mai woke up in Twilight Town, with nothing but the clothes on her back, her wristwatch, and wireless headphones. And though she has yet to figure it out, the program on her wristwatch has occasionally started to act abnormally.
