Nightfall: Chapter 2
Two years after the events of Dream Drop Distance, the Darkness became so great that it swallowed the worlds, locking them away within its merciless abyss.
Twilight Town, now covered in eternal night, stands as one of last Sanctuaries of Light. It is where players begin their journey.
Ever resourceful, the Moogles have created a safe place for refugees. They have charged the Denizens of Light with finding Castle Oblivion: it holds a key to the puzzle of the lost worlds.
But within the dark shadows of the sanctuary world a powerful dark force still looms, waiting to strike. Each survivor must choose whether to go to Castle Oblivion or stay behind to protect the world from the dragon that lurks in the shadows.
Medusa has always been my favorite character in the anime Soul Eater, and she has a really cool outfit design while still being fairly simple. I have a nobody villain already (Edmund) who's cold, calculating, and cautious, and I thought it'd be fun to have a villain who's ready to let loose a little more and spread some chaos >:3c
As a witch born in Halloween Town, Medusa's purpose has always been to help with the preparations for Halloween, with the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington leading the charge on all of their plans. Medusa had a knack for controlling shadows and casting dark magic, and a peculiar fondness for snakes, and with the abilities she had at her disposal it had never been difficult for her to scare the children of the world, heck, she enjoyed it. But as Jack was always one to try new and more ambitious things every year, her shadowy tricks weren't enough to keep Jack interested. She had to compete with Dr. Finkelstein when it came to getting her ideas incorporated into Jack's plans, and she was quickly becoming old news. She was jealous of the mad doctor's achievements, and decided to start experiments of her own that would be better than whatever the crazy old doctor could cook up. He had been trying to turn these new creatures, the heartless, into puppets to use for the festivities, but these were creatures of darkness... her area of expertise. She conducted experiments within her own home, on the outskirts of town, attempting to combine science with her magic to accomplish what Dr. Finkelstein could not.
Her progress was slow going and the experiment was dangerous, and the more she heard about the doctor's progress, so much as getting the heartless to put on a dance, she grew more and more jealous and angry. But it seemed like someone else had taken an interest in Medusa's activities, as she was visited one day by an outsider with horns and green skin. The woman introduced herself as Malificent and claimed to be looking for allies to take over this world and countless others that Medusa had never even heard of. The woman seemed impressed with the progress Medusa's experiments to control the heartless, promising to teach her how to control the creatures and so much more. Ultimately, Medusa refused the offer, unwilling to be anyone's lesser, much to Malificent's displeasure, and Medusa simply scoffed as the dragon woman warned her not to let her guard down, lest she be consumed by the very puppets she controlled. Medusa later found out that Oogie Boogie had started working with Malificent- seems he was her next best sucker.
Eventually she had learned the trick to controlling the heartless with her own willpower, and so she marched into Guillotine Square with her head held high, flanked by several heartless. Once in the presence of other hearts, however, the heartless became agitated, they were creatures of instinct after all, and she could summon them, but only control them with simple commands. As things spiraled out of control, Jack had to come to her aid, and afterwords she was forbidden from continuing her research in fear of harming the citizens, and she was forced to return to her home outside town, angrier than ever.
Medusa was approached a second time, this time by Oogie Boogie who once again tried to win her over to Malificent's side, going as far to tease her earlier failure at the square to confirm that she needed guidance. Tired of hearing him speak, she shoved her fist down the throat of the disgusting sack of insects, promising him that if he hassled her again, she would end him. And without his knowledge, she planted one of her magically conjured snakes in his throat, allowing her to keep tabs on where he was, and if need be, cause some damage should he become too troublesome. Once he left, however, and she tried to go back to her work, she had her doubts about whether or not she should have taken the offer, and in her moment of weakness, the heartless turned on her. But it couldn't end there, not when she was seen as such a joke. She needed to prove to all of them that she was better; better than anyone.
The next thing she knew, she woke up in her home, somehow different. She felt an insatiable hunger for more power, and her mad laughter echoed through the halls of her home.
Medusa is a fairly lean woman of average height and a dotted snake tattoo down either arm. She had yellow eyes with black slitted pupils and short dirty blonde hair with two longer strands down the front that are tied into a braid resting on her chest. She wears a simple, black, body-length suit with a hood that has prominent snake eyes on either side. There's also a tail on the back end of the suit that's shaped like an arrow; it appears merely cosmetic, but she can also manipulate it with her magic, usually so she can prop herself to sit cross-legged in midair. It strangely supports her weight. She also happens to walk around barefoot, oddly enough.
Shadow Snakes: To avoid expending too much of her energy in combat, Medusa stores her magic ahead of time into shadowy marks that appear to be nothing more than a long, dotted snake tattoo along either arm. Once she activates them, however, the marks writhe and slither along her arm, freeing themselves to transform into giant twin snakes that are attached to Medusa's arms by their tails, and can reach up to several feet long. While a very unusual weapon to say the least, the sharp fangs the snakes possess can do quite a lot of damage if her opponent's not careful
Dark Magic: Medusa's specialty is her power over the darkness, something she had a knack for as a witch even before becoming a heartless. The darkness she conjures tends to be themed after snakes and arrow symbols, but it can take other forms as well.
Shadow Snakes - Since these are essentially magic tattoos on her body, this is something she casts before a fight, so she's always ready even if she's low on magic.
Shadow Fangs - Shadow marks in the shape of a directional arrow, she can summon these with little cost to her magic, which then can stretch out from her to strike her enemies like spears.
Shadow Trace - She can also conjure tiny snakes to plant inside her victims, allowing her to locate them as long as they're in the same world, and should she deem necessary, command the snakes to damage her victims from the inside. However, to use this, she has to stick the snakes down the victims throat, an opportunity that does not always present itself easily, and the magic she uses to do so cannot regenerate until she had dispelled the snakes.
Heartless: Since becoming a heartless, Medusa has learned that she has command over the lesser heartless, and can force them to do her bidding on will alone. She also can't be killed by ordinary weapons, and can create and travel through Corridors of Darkness harmlessly.
Cunning: More important than all of her power is the cleverness and quick thinking she uses to apply it. She uses everything and anything at her disposal to achieve her goals. She will deceive, lie, and do whatever is necessary to accomplish her goals, and she just so happens to be smart enough to do just that.
Arrogance: Medusa has always believed her genius to be above most others and her arrogance has only gotten worse since she became a heartless. She now feels invincible, the only weapon able to destroy her beins the mighty keyblade. Anyone not wielding a keyblade is simply her toy to play with, but that also makes her careless. Medusa is also perfectly happy taking her sweet time with her prey, whether it be the survivors of Twilight Town or the world itself, she takes the time to watch as her subject becomes tormented and corrupt before she finally consumes its heart.
Being of Darkness: As a heartless, she is particularly susceptible to light magic, as well as the keyblade. If she's forced to fight an opponent with one or both of these, she'll be forced to play things more cautiously, on the defensive. And she doesn't like when she can't have her fun.
Melee Combat: While most of her combat spells don't reach further than medium range, she'd rather not engage her enemies close up in melee combat until she's ready to finish them. Most of her spells encourage her opponent to keep their distance, either by her sprouting arrow shaped dark magic out of her back to stretch out from several directions like spears, or summoning giant snakes from her arms to give her some space from her opponent. If someone's able to close the gap regardless of her defenses, she'll be at a severe disadvantage, having no physical weapons or means to block incoming attacks.
Medusa is an ambitious woman, who once wanted to be acknowledged as an accomplished scientist, of the same caliber as Dr. Finkelstein, but since befalling a terrible fate during an experiment and becoming a heartless, her motivations have changed. She now only desires to increase her own power and to spread darkness by consuming the hearts of every world. She loves toying with other people, tempting them to give into their darkness, and sees them as nothing more than her play-things. She sees herself as bettwe than everyone else, especially since discovering that no ordinary weapon could destroy her heartless form. She is playful and demented and will stop at nothing to continue her fun. With no regard for her own personal safety and possessing the patience to watch all of her schemes unfold, she's a dangerous enemy to have. As an ally she is unpredictable, willing to change and adapt any plan on a whim.
