Name: Kairi
Nickname: Princess
Age: 16 [Birthday: 10/15]
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Position: As good as they come; one of seven Princess of Heart.
Powers: Being a Princess of Heart, Kairi possesses a power, though it’s not by any means a visual one. Rather, it’s a power of light itself, having it be able to channel in ways never thought imaginable. She has the ability to channel her light to those who need it; whether their needs be opening a door to venture deeper into the darkness (as was seen with all seven Princess of Heart) or simply acting as a beacon to those whom have lost themselves in it (much like Sora had when he turned into a Heartless).
Weapon: A keyblade with a lack of a known name, often referred to as others as “Kairi’s Keyblade” due to the lack of a better name. The keyblade has a gold ‘stem’ that turns to a deep read near the top of the blade, accompanied by a grouping of large, brightly coloured flowers. The handle is in the shape of a heart, the one side as a cerulean blue wave, turning into a light tan colour which winds its way up the stem of the blade, working as a vine, to connect with the flowers above. The keychain is that of a paopu, strung to the blade with a braided string, slowly transferring to an orange the farther it pulls away from the blade.
Picture:Appearance: Kairi dresses and looks much like you’d expect most girls her age --or even princesses for that matter-- to look like; the traditional preppy teen, wearing colours as vibrant as their personality. She’s an average height for a girl, as well as having a common, healthy weight. Her skin is that of a lightly tanned colour, due to the fact that she’s been residing on the Islands for most of her life, the sun in constant shine against the near-cloudless days. Dark auburn hair is the one factor of Kairi that most seem to remember, medium-length and trimmed outwardly from her face. Blue as the ocean that surrounds the islands, as pure as her heart are her stunning blue eyes. If eyes truly are a gateway into one’s soul, then Kairi’s is truly one of beauty and serenity. They reflect her personality, which is mostly calm and bearable. In times of worry or compassion they will turn a light purple colour.
Over time, Kairi’s taste in clothing has not changed one bit. Through her teen years, she still wears brightly coloured short-cut sleeveless dresses ranging in colours from white to pink to purple. Currently she wears a double zippered pink dress with the top being opened one quarter of the way down and the bottom just three teeth away from being completely closed. This is accompanied by two zippers stitched into the clothing, one on each side. Underneath her dress she wears a thin white strapped shirt with a simple grey design of a flower being seen in the middle of the chest of the shirt. A small black hood is attached to the straps of this shirt, though she is very rarely seen wearing it pulled over her head. Around her waist is a thin black belt with two others like it attached to metal clasps, allowing them to hang by her sides. These don’t serve any particular purpose, other than the fact that the one on her left carries a black clasped sack with a lavender ribbon on it.
Her shoes are lavender and white sneakers with black soles and accompanying laces. However, even though these shoes have five holes which can be used to weave the lace through them, Kairi prefers to use the uppermost and middl hole only to keep the lace in place, making a crisscross pattern appear, and tying the rest of the lace around her leg’s ankle. Three bracelets are worn on her left wrist, each varying in colour; one a light purple, another a tanned brown and the last a pure white. Around her neck she wears a small necklace laced with a thin black thread, which has a small opal seashell wound into it.
Personality: Kairi is a very caring individual, believing that her friends are closest to her and deserve to be one of her main priorities. Whether this means putting herself in the ways of danger for them or simply giving them a friendly reminder not to do something for their own well-being. She always tries to be supportive to those around her, offering ideas when needed or simply trying to cheer someone up if they’re feeling down at the time or providing backbone to an idea that she believes could work out. Optimism is her forte and will often exhibit this with her friendly, welcoming smile and overall positive outlook on life and the day at hand, trying to make the most of it.
Generally well-liked, she finds it very easy to make friends or become aquatinted with new individuals. This can take on both the roles of good or bad. It can allow her to make friends with people she’d never have been able to were she anything less than herself, allowing more laughs to be shared and time well spent. On the other hand, this can get her into a whole heap of trouble, partially due to it being mixed in with her naïve-self, believing too much all at once. Friends may soon be revealed to not be as friendly as she once thought they had been.
As a Princess of Heart, she knows herself very well and the decisions that she has to make, a level head on the situation. Able to see the light in even the times where there seems to be none, she’s a very internal-intelligent person to both herself and others that she grows close to as time passes. An understanding is soon shared between her and others, much like a mother does to their child, a sort of caring and strive for the best, trying to attain the most that they can.
Though Kairi may be brave, she’d prefer to watch the events unfold rather than be in them herself. During most sports you’ll see her referee or cheer others on from the sidelines. Of course, just because she seems to be passive in sports, she’s by no means passive on situations that run by her or what it is that she wants. “No” is simply not enough of an answer in her books, if she wants to do something and can’t there has to be a good reason to go along with why it is that she can’t.
In short; Kairi is simply complex.
Original World: Radiant Garden
Current Residing World: Destiny Islands
History/Background: (Please note that the missing pieces of Kairi’s history I’m simply making up to try and string the pieces together, though keep in mind I’m trying to take the most probably and understandable situations.)
Like most princesses, Kairi was raised in a large land in a magnificent castle, though it was no replacement for a home. It overlooked the town, earning its name and known title for being radiant. She did not live here alone though, she was accompanied by not her parents, but her grandmother, a very noble and wise individual who knew much about the light and where it lied. Kairi would spend most of her days playing in the castle’s library, listening to the tales and lessons that her grandmother would tell her due to the fact that she was simply too young to tend school as well as the fact that there was no schools nearby. The tales would be of the past, about light and darkness, and from this, Kairi knew much of what it is that she knows nowadays dealing with the heart. This was the way it would stay for some time, that was, until the Heartless came.
The wise-man of the land, Ansem, along with his apprentices had been performing experiments on hearts, trying to extract the darkness from it, to see just what exactly what it was that made them tick. An experiment gone wrong, the creatures began to thrive, devouring every bit of light that they could get their hands on. Of course, Kairi was the light itself, and so, the Heartless attacked, and she had lost, lost in darkness itself. Soon the castle became a source of darkness that spread throughout the land. Luckily though, it was put to a halt by Ansem, though, there was no sight of him after that. It was then that the town had changed its name to Hallow Bastion, an empty fortress of darkness.
While in the darkness, Kairi had lost herself, she was her own light, though there was nothing to guide her from where she was. That was until Sora and Riku’s heart had called out, creating a light through the darkness, guiding her towards the islands. Kairi continued to have her heart, though she had to give up something valuable in return. During her time in the darkness, she had forgotten every bit of her past, most of it just seeming as a blur. Bits and pieces would resurface at any given moment, though never enough to paint a whole picture.
From there on, Kairi lived the rest of her young life on the islands, with two of the greatest friends she’d ever live to meet; Riku and Sora. They would play games and other activities on their island for the long summer days, filled with fun and joy. This became a daily thing for them, and with each one passing, they became closer and closer until they were near inseparable. They remained this way for nine or so years, until Kairi was fourteen. It was then that their eyes were set on new goals, new worlds to be specific, and ways that they could reach and attain them. Their answer to this question was to build a raft and gather supplies; they’d leave this world in search of another. Riku and Sora seemed keen on finding Kairi’s original world seeing as none of the trio could remember/know what it was. After all the preparations had been set, the group was pleased with their work and headed home for the night.
Later that night a storm tore its way to the islands, Kairi had only one thought set into her mind; the raft. Quickly she woke from her bed and head out for the island on her paddle boat, being the first to arrive. Running down towards the raft, she stopped, something calling to her inside of the secret place, where Sora and her used to draw on the wall with stones, leaving impressions that would remain there for some time. When she entered though she seemed captivated into a large door that lied beside their usual etching spot. It had always been there, though this time it was more or less calling out to her, seeming more important than ever.
Darkness was soon captivating her, causing her to go in a sort of trance, that was until her light arrived. Sora ran in, on the island for the same reason as her and in the cavern for near the same reasons as herself. Temporarily that took her out of the trance, though only long enough to mutter his name before the door burst out in darkness, which soon dispersed, and took Kairi along with it. And so, once again, the girl was captive to the darkness, her heart nowhere to be seen, though it stayed in a safe place all the while, with her brightest of lights, Sora.
Her heart ventured through the various worlds, safe within Sora, guarded from the darkness. Her motionless, puppet-like body was left behind though, having to go wherever life or any other being chose to take it. Soon this ended up with her back in her original castle, though looking far from suitable for a return. Sora had arrived once more, her knight in shining armor. After fending off Riku, Sora returned what it was that was Kairi’s, the one thing that he was being sure to keep safe; her heart. With the dark keyblade in hand, and the power to unlock hearts with it, he released both of the hearts, causing him to lose his, but to give Kairi back hers. Though, as soon as Kairi had gained her heart and freedom once more, Sora’s heart had to leave, and his body with it. With Riku stopping Ansem; Donald, Goofy and her made their exit from the chamber.
Sora and her had met up in the hall, though not noticeable by everyone at first. In the form of a Shadow he came to the three of them, with Donald and Goofy thinking it was nothing but another heartless, it was up to Kairi to see that bit of light that still remained in Sora. Luckily, she did, knowing well that Sora had protected her before and now it was her time to repay him for that favor, to guard him from all the other heartless that were around, guarding him with a hug, allowing her light to guide him through the darkness, to be aware of what he truly was. Soon, Kairi’s light guided the boy, having the two old friends be back together in one another's’ arms, safe from the darkness for that brief moment.
Hopping aboard the gummi ship they regrouped with Leon and the others back in Traverse Town. It was there that Sora and them planned out just how it was they were going to go about defeating Ansem and rescue Riku. Kairi brought it upon herself to insist on going, to try and help Sora bring back their dear old friend. Sora refused though, telling her that they’ll always be together, that their hearts were bonded with one another's, a sense of belonging. With that in mind, she couldn’t help but give in to what Sora was trying to say, though she wasn’t going to back down and not contribute anything. She handed him her ‘lucky charm’ which she made out of thelassa-shells back on the islands while Sora and Riku were gathering supplies. To each other, they promised to keep the charm safe, that Sora would give it back to her, in reality, their own way of trying to reassure the others’ safety.
After the battle had been said and done, Kairi was once again reunited with Sora, though what seemed to be a warm greeting became into another parting. Every time they seemed to be closest they were torn from one another. Though, at the last moment, his last words for that moment to her were that he promised that he would find her.
((And I’m having to end it here for now... since I don’t have the time needed on the computer to finish it and I’d hate to keep Serif waiting any longer for a ruling. Given it’s accepted I’ll finish up with the rest of her history.))
Role Playing Sample:(Written with the accompaniment of Velum.)
It was a beautiful day on the islands, one where the sun was beating down through a lightly clouded sky with the scarce sound of seabirds cooing and cawing. The fact that it was the last day of school before the long summer break only made it that much sweeter and joyous. No more school, no more worries, simply a few months of relaxation with having to worry about no one other than yourself and those that you chose to care for.
Late in the afternoon, the schools were letting out their secondary students home, the streets being filled with the students pacing home to tend to their needs; whether it be those extra forty winks or merely starting a crisp new video game bought especially for this time in the year. Though, were you to look down to the beaches of the main island you’d see two teens marching beside one another down the beach at their own pace, not minding much of their time nor their direction.
“So, Riku, any plans this summer?” asked the auburn-haired girl as she trudged along the sand, each step bringing up some of the small, ground pebbles with it.
The taller boy continued his walk, eyes set on the path ahead of him. His eye-contact not being broken, he closed his eyes temporarily, providing an answer, “Not really... probably the same as usual.”
A smile appeared on the young girl’s face. It was nice to just talk to her friends like this, they could just chat about whatever it was that crossed their minds, having any unanswered questions be asked and hopefully, have an answer be found. She held her school bag loosely in her right hand, having a slight sway of movement happen with each pace.
“The usual? Doesn’t that get a bit boring though?”
Riku looked at her, arching a brow slightly. Kairi had always been one to tease, though he figured she’d know more than to simply ask a question among the likes of that one to him. Though, patience was a virtue --one that was needed in a friendship-- and he could not simply point out that flaw right then and there to her, that would be quite contradictory to the purpose.
So, he let out a brief chortle, “Not if it’s been a year since you last did it.”
“Guess you’ve got me there,” she offered with a light, upbeat laugh near the end.
The two were passing by the old Play Island, and in doing so, had Kairi’s gaze averted towards it, soon having to bring her pace to a halt as well. It had been a while since they’d all gone there together... maybe they could once this year for old time’s sake. She’d sure like it, that was for sure.
“Something offshore?”
Kairi broke out of her daze, looking to her side to see that Riku had met up with her, looking out to the island with her. This was it, it was now or never. Letting in a short inhale, she brought a strand of hair behind her ear, replying to her friend’s question with a small nod.
Looking into his cerulean eyes, she spoke, “I was thinking... maybe you, Sora and I could go to the old island one of these days.”
“Hmm...” Riku furrowed his brow in thought, folding his arms in which he always had a tendency to do.
This left Kairi waiting patiently for a response, continuing to look over at her friend. Riku and Sora had been with her for as long as she remembered, they had an understanding for one another now. She knew Sora was always up for an adventure to the past on the island-- and that was great in knowing. For some reason though, it didn’t feel that right to leave out someone like Riku, that last piece of the puzzle.
With a solemn nod, he continued down the shore. “I guess,” he called back.
With those words she lit up, soon picking up her pace to catch up with him. All of the sudden this summer seemed to be one that they would remember. It would be one that they would cherish for some time, just like the old days, back when they were kids...
