In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

Second was way less crowded then first, and besides she wanted to pick up something from that one bakery. Which sounded like a rationalization, and it maybe kind of was, but as long as she didn't get in any fights she didn't need to be in, then it wasn't. Honest. And landing in the middle of a crowd once really was enough, if you had a choice.
so Lily came down from the gummmi ship - and that was still such a sci-fi sort of rush - at a landing point in the middle of Second District, Traverse Town.
Twenty minuets later, clutching a bakery bag and running hell-for-leather, she gasped indignantly, "Agro range - on - this thing!?!
"Behemoth." The calm automated voice came from her hip. "Agro range unknown, suspected variable."
She had no idea how come this thing was after her, though she kind of suspected - with the bit of her brain that wasn't occupied with oh, running running running - that someone else had raised it and now she was stuck with it.
She found herself running out into the open square, which was less than awesome, seeing as that thing was not built for narrow streets and kept crashing into walls when it took corners.
It was all that crashing about that finally snapped Leif out of his fainting spell from earlier. That and all the roaring, that certainly helped. It was kind of hard to miss, the roaring of the huge monstrous thing just beyond the alley, and the sight of it was more than enough to shock Leif into full awareness.
"Wh-wha... what is that thing!?" This was said more out of shock than anything else. He certainly didn't expect an answer.
"Another one of those creatures." replied the calm, disinterested voice in his head, giving Leif another start. It was then he remembered half the reason he had passed out in the first place. A talking sword, right. How did that even make sense? "It seems to be rather large, at that."
"So why hasn't it noticed me?" He spoke quietly, because not being noticed felt like a good idea, and even if he didn't understand why it hadn't noticed him, he wasn't about to jump out and grab its attention.
"Perhaps it already has its prey?" Sure enough, it was then Leif spotted her. Brownish-blond hair, thin figure, doing lots of running. Was that...
"... Kara?" Leif stammered quietly under his breath. She was wearing different clothes, and looked a little bit taller - older, maybe? - but he felt pretty sure it was her.
"Again, you mention Kara. Who is this Kara?" But Leif wasn't paying attention anymore. As far as he knew, he had found some trace of home. The Soul Brand let out a brief exasperated sigh. The boy was going to do something stupid now, wasn't he?
Sure enough, Leif drew The Soul Brand charged out of the alleyway with a not exactly fierce battle cry, hoping to draw the giant monster's attention.
Lily ran out into the square - more like a rectangle, really, but who was counting? - with the Behemoth hot behind her, and turned abruptly to the left, nearly doubling back. Thank anything, heartless tended to stick to the same patterns of attack, and most of them seemed incapable of improvising.
When she wasn't right where it expected her to be, it lost sight of her, and that would have been downright comic if.... Okay, no. It was comic. Except that before it could cast about for her, a kid came charging out of an alley, yelling anger and his own terror, and the Heartless turned toward that.
The Behemoth tossed its head and reared, stomping to send a glittering shockwave in the direction of the little human.
Lily wheeled about to see, and knew that she was of the wrong side of the field. She headed her the stranger, running directing behind the Behemoth.
That worked. That worked maybe a little too well. That thing was bigger than he thought. And... did it get taller?
"You might wish to dodge." Huh? The Soul Brand managed to distract Leif just as the Behemoth cam crashing back down, throwing him off his feet, onto the ground. Suddenly this didn't seem like such a good idea.
"I could have told you that." remarked The Soul Brand snidely as Leif stumbled to his feet and nobly ran away. What was this thing? It was big, and it was scary, and it was chasing him. Luckily, there was one thing he was good at: running.
((To clarify, only Leif can hear the sword, not that he knows that yet.))
Running was good, Lily thought, maybe he didn't have a death wish. At any rate, he was fine, didn't need help up. So where were the doors from here - she wanted to end up going that way.
She missed it turning, and was thrown to the ground when it stomped a foot in her direction - Ow. Really ow.
She scrambled to her feet, took off again right past the Behemoth - she was going to hurt so much when the adrenalin wore off - and headed in the general direction of First. Which really meant the other end of the square. The other guy was well ahead of her, she saw.
((Yeah, it's a bit confused as to exactly what Leif spotted that made him run out there at the moment. ^^; ))
Leif may have been ahead, but that wasn't going to help him much for one main reason: he had no idea where he was going, other than away from the giant thing chasing him. This square was only so big, and it wasn't long until he was at the other end. The only good choice seemed like the stairs, so he dashed over to those and scaled them as quickly as he could. At the top, he was facing the thing, and for the first time he actually got a good look at just how big this thing was.
"Perhaps next time you'll think before drawing attention to yourself for no good reason." Leif just gulped, frozen in shock at just how reckless of a thing he had done. Whatever that thing was, it looked like it could swallow him whole, and it probably would if it was given the opportunity.
"I would recommend not giving it that opportunity, in that case." But Leif wasn't about to move. For one, he wasn't certain where he was going, and for another, he wanted to make sure Kara was okay - even if something did seem strange about her...
The Behemoth stomped furiously towards the two and Ienzo sighed. How odd... It seemed that every time he and Lily met, some form or Heartless (one of them being himself) was attempting to fight her. Coincidence? He didn't know. But whatever the reason, the Behemoth had to be stopped.
Hell to control, the Behemoths. Ienzo sat on the edge of a dormant chimney, the sloping roof leaving his feet dangling. His silver eyes watched with interest as the other distracted the menacing beastie. The black hair, whose style he shared with his Nobody, drifted slightly in the wind. He sighed and closed his eyes... And he vanished. A thousand eyes opened as he traversed the shadows, trying to find the right spot, and...
He appeared beside Lily, ignoring the man who was atop the stairs, well ahead of the girl. He flashed that small smile, the sarcasm no longer evident, and his right arm rippled with Shadow. "Hey," he said, waving. His eyes flashed with excitement. "Need a hand?" His black hair and dark coat rippled as the Behemoth sent off another shockwave. Already, their shadows were tied by a network that the Town's orange lights let off...
She wasn't the only one startled by the man that had suddenly appeared. This day just kept getting stranger and stranger. Whoever this was seemed to know Kara, but Leif had never seen the man before.
The Soul Brand, however, had other things in mind. See, to The Soul Brand, that Behemoth was a nice juicy steak, cooked exactly to taste, lightly seasoned. In other words, absolutely delicious.
The new arrival, however, was a full five-course meal. Time to see if this boy would actually be useful. Leif had mentioned this Kara person several times, and seemed to see someone else there - The Soul Brand was going to enjoy telling him that there wasn't actually anyone there - but for now, perhaps it could use that.
"The new arrival seems powerful. There might be some danger." Both were technically true statements - the Behemoth was certainly a danger. Now all that was left was to let the boy misinterpret...
Kara was in danger. He had to do something. Well, he had a sword, right? Maybe it was time to use it! Not really thinking, Leif took a running jump from his ledge back towards Kara and the mysterious man.
"I'll save you, Kara!"
((Doofus Leif is a doofus. Feel free to laugh at him.))
The Lief character ran freely at them and Ienzo sighed. Another to crowd the battlefield. The Behemoth took another menacing step forward and Ienzo felt the cobblestone shudder under his feet. Perfect.
Then the creature looked at him. Straight at him. It actually stopped. It snorted, blowing his hair from his forehead, and continued. Ienzo snarled. What a stupid creature. Didn't even listen to its superiors. Just meant it would die quicker, Ienzo supposed. With a flash of Darkness, he held a long, thin blade with a small white eye, looking around frantically. Sin... His Heartless.
He looked to the two characters beside him, one a female he knew, the other a stranger. "You guys can take this stuff?" he asked, that smile returning. He moved his hair slightly away from his eyes, which were almost shining in the moonlight, and looked up to the beastie. Things were going to get fun!
He wanted to fight the thing? No, of course he wanted to fight the thing - and never mind, the doors may have been right there but somebody'd gone and triggered a Battlefield. Lily fumbled with Scylling 's unfamiliar ties.
"This is a terrible plan, you know," she said, and didn't have the time to say, last time we talked you tried to take me hostage, and I wouldn't be surprised if you were the one to call this thing, in which case at least you took my advice to heart and the least I could do would be to play into it. I really need a sheath for this thing and who?.
She thew her paper bag off to one side, morning the loss of bread and cookies, and half turned to see what the other kid was shouting about, momentarily distracted from the squishing. Save what now?
There was one main thought on Leif's mind by this point: attack the man in black. He was powerful, and he was dangerous, and he had to help Kara - he owed her that much. The big thing might have been dangerous, but the sword had said that this guy was more of a thread to -
... wait. Leif actually stopped mid-charge as he realized it, and stood staring at the girl.
"You aren't Kara." He sounded dumbfounded. There wasn't much time for confusion, though, as the big purple thing roared, as if to remind them that it was, in fact, still there, and still trying to eat them. It was enough to catch Leif's attention. Oh. Right. That. Why had this been a good idea?
"I never said it was." replied The Soul Brand, only slightly irritated that the boy's charge had come to a sudden halt. At least now he would have no choice but to fight the giant beast. The Soul Brand would feed today.
"You aren't helping." responded Leif to his sword. It was about now that he decided he greatly preferred swords of the non-talking variety.
Ienzo turned around as the odd one ran at him, and gave him a strange look as he stopped. What the hell was this kid doing? It looked as though he[/i] was the target. Was this kid an old enemy of his? Ienzo scanned his face, his silver eyes narrowing as he ran through his crystal memory.
Nobody with such a bland appearance. What an odd getup. Ienzo grinned, but his eyes widened as it faltered. He looked down to his own weapon, the white eye near the hilt locked on to the other man's. So Sin smelled it as well.
He turned away from the Behemoth completely and sniffed in the man's direction. "Not to be mean, but you smell... Odd."
Another shockwave rippled his coat and he sighed, brushing dust off his monotone jeans. "Let's kill this beast," he said, holding the weapon out. He looked to Lily, no longer smiling. "It's not gonna be easy."
"Um, no. Sorry," she said, sympathetic because there was no reason not to be and it might soften the blow. And Ienzo was being weird - that was the sort of statement that begged for an explanation.
There was a roar, and the ground bucked under her feet. Oh right they were fighting! Behemoth. Squishings. No time for explanations now.
Scylling in hand, she recalled just how long it'd been since she'd used an actual sword, and the balance on this was nothing like her old leaf-blade. Oh well. She settled into an easy stance, and said "How you want'a play it?"
He was on to it, it seemed. Somehow, the powerful man could sense The Soul Brand's presence. Well, so be it. What could they do about it, anyways? At least picking a fight with him would be better than its last wielder, who had picked a fight with the empty ones, Nobodies. How was it supposed to feed on something empty?
He smelled odd? What was that supposed to mean? Leif didn't have time to figure that one out, though, as the giant... thing demanded attention.
"I suggest you get to slaying it, and quickly, since it seems you can no longer escape." Sure enough, Leif looked around the square and it seemed they were now walled in with the giant beast. It was him, the man in black, and not-Kara against whatever the giant angry purple thing was. He gulped.
"I should warn you, I have no idea how to use a sword." He tried desperately to remember his crash course in sword play that he had received back at the castle, but right now, all he could think was along the lines of "it's gonna eat me it's gonna eat me oh god it's gonna eat me".
"Do exactly as I tell you and you will be fine. Point me at it and say the word 'Fire'." The Soul Brand's voice was authoritative enough that Leif didn't bother to argue with it. Slightly confused, he aimed the tip of the sword at the beast, and spoke.
"... fire?" A tiny ball of fire, about the size of his fist, shot out from the end of his sword, darted forward, and smacked the thing in the face. It blinked, seeming mildly irritated but not at all hurt by the flame. Uh-oh.
