In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

"So I wrote it all in a letter But I don't know if it came The nurse she likes my writings So she keeps it just like me So that it wont get away"
Rayner bobbed his head in time with the beat, playing along on his guitar as well as blasting the music through his headphones around his neck, singing along with it as well. This song meant a lot to him, it was the last song he heard before the attack, he was in the process of learning the small guitar solo. His eyes closed, looking down, he strummed, seemingly not looking at his guitar.
"I wont be denied this time fore I go out of my mind over matters Got my foot on the ladder And I'm climbing up to the moon"
He liked the meaning of this song. To him, it told him a story of despair, and impossible feats seeming not so impossible at first. It pretty much described his situation now. He thought it was a sad thing to say about his situation, and Christina would be telling him to look up at this time, but he just couldn't.
"Got a sky that looks like heaven Got an earth that looks like s*** And its getting hard to tell where What I am ends And what they're making me begins"
Rayner was missing his friends. They would all be around him, playing along on their respective instruments, except Mia, who would be playing the triangle or tambourine or whatever she found in the attic.
"I wont be denied this time fore I go out of my mind over matters Got my foot on the ladder And I'm climbing up to the moon"
He was coming close to it now, the guitar solo he was working so hard on for a week or so before his world got attacked by heartless. It wasn't much of a solo, but it was just enough. This was probably his favorite song. It reminded him that, no matter how hard things may seem, someone may have it worse.
"Saturday in the yard They'll bring you by Well lay down on the grass And watch as the sky closes in"
Or, maybe, he would meet a friend that could lessen the burden of this... Invasion. He doubted it, but he never knew just how many people would get their homes destroyed, taken away from them, the heartless taking it away and letting it drop to the ground like a newly-purchased ice cream cone.
He played the solo with only a handful of sour notes, and that was in a baby's hand. It seems he remembered it after all. His eyes were closed the entire time, his head still bobbing rhythmically to the song. He was able to do that, and now he was about to finish the song up with the final chorus...
"I wont be denied this time fore I go out of my mind over matters Got my foot on the ladder And I'm climbing up to the moon Climbing up to the moon"
He continued the simple chord pattern for a while, even going as far to pause the song so it just wouldn't end. He listened to not just his playing, but the ambient noises of Traverse Town. He heard something in the background that wasn't wind, footsteps? He guessed he wouldn't be alone for much longer, so he relished the moments he had to play the chords and forget about life before being pulled back into facing the jaws of humanity.

Maylin walked about the First District, a bit of a chill in the air. Clutching her sides, she rubbed her hands up and down her arms to warm herself. It'd been a while since she had been in the First District, but the heartless attack upon her Inn forced her out, and so now here she was. It certainly was nicer than Third District, though...less monsters, only an occasional heartless...
"So I wrote it all in a letterBut I don't know if it came The nurse she likes my writings So she keeps it just like me So that it wont get away"
What was that? Maylin thought, Sounds like...a guy singing....
The girl had a thought to follow the sound, see who it was...after all, this was First District, it couldn't be anything unsafe...probably a musician looking for some extra cash.
"I wont be denied this time fore I go out of my mind over matters Got my foot on the ladder And I'm climbing up to the moon"
There it was again...it sounded like it was coming from around the corner....
Maylin decided to throw caution out the window and look for whoever was singing. She turned the next corner, and lo and behold, saw a young man around...perhaps 15 or 16? A couple years older than her, at anyrate. He had black headphones hanging around his neck as he strummed away at his guitar, singing a bit of a mournful tune. His hair was long, or at least, his bangs were. She couldn't quite see the hair in the back, but did notice the odd silverish color of it.
The thirteen-year-old stood there, listening to him sing his song...it had a sound like Jack Johnson, only a bit sadder, more sentimental, and at the same time hopeful. Without thinking about it, the girl started to sing along to the chorus, quietly, in a higher pitch...
"I wont be denied this time fore I go out of my mind over matters Got my foot on the ladder And I'm climbing up to the moon Climbing up to the moon"

Rayner jumped, turning to the girl who sang with him, if only for one repeat of the chorus. Still, he hadn't heard of anyone who just started singing... Though, he assumed he should get used to odd things such as this. After all, small black things with beady, yellow eyes and antennae DID come and destroy his whole world without a moment's notice, he got knocked out on a spaceship, and now... Well... He was here. He couldn't describe it, but he guessed things were normal.
"... Um... Hi there," he said, offering a small wave to her, trying not to make the atmosphere of their conversation a bit less tense. He hoped it would work, maybe she had seen something about his friends, or at least the people who knocked him out and took him on the ship.
Wouldn't that be great, but he knew somewhere that this was just him hoping for something unattainable unless by some crazy circumstances. Oh well, life goes on...

"... Um... Hi there," he said, offering a small wave to her.
"Oh," Maylin said, taken slightly aback. She'd forgotten that she'd been singing along too, "Hey."
Maylin fidgeted a bit, twiddling her thumbs awkwardly; Stupid, stupid! She thought, THIS is why you don't talk to people you don't know; you never say ANYTHING!
"...that was a nice song you were playing...The Eels, right?" Maylin asked.
((Short, uninspired...))

Rayner nodded.
"Yeah, it was, they're one of my top ten," he said, grinning slightly. He liked their music. It could bring him up when he was down, or just let him relax when he needed to most. Though, what he liked most of all, was that their music wasn't about something fake like dragons or flying pigs, they were songs about real life things, happening to ordinary people. It was realistic, something one could connect to. That was one of the top reasons why he liked the music he likes.
"Rayner Santeri, at your service. You?" he asked, showing no hard feelings towards the awkward moment they had. Harboring ill feelings towards people gets you nowhere, and Rayner wanted for people to like him. He felt needed, like he belonged that way.

"Maylin Yashura...pleased to meet you," Maylin said, smiling shyly. This guy seemed good enough; a bit of a bohemian, perhaps. Good musician, great singer...definently not the typical bounty-hunter or mad scientist that would dissect her...and that's a good thing.
"So are you new to Traverse Town?" She asked...after all, most people in the First District were relatively new to the area.

Rayner grinned this time, not some half grin, not some slight grin, but a real one. The first in a long while. Something he was proud of.
'So are you new to Traverse Town?' Her voice sounded like she didn't mean any harm. Though, he could've figured that a while ago, but oh well. Better late than never. Rayner was slowly becoming a faucet of catch-phrases made popular by people in the past. Hopefully he could turn off the leaking soon enough.
"Yeah, Got here... Not too long ago, I guess," he said, not elaborating further. It was inevitable that at some point he'd have to, but... Hopefully, not today.

"Yeah, Got here... Not too long ago, I guess," he said, not elaborating further.
Probably got his world destroyed...poor guy, Maylin thought sadly. It wasn't too hard to add it up, though...the sad song, the 'alone' aspect, just arriving in First District. She wanted to kind of pat him on the back, reassure him that he'd survive, probably run into someone he knew here, too...but she'd have to wait til she knew his story for sure.
"You probably should stick to the First District, then...no matter how nice the Inn supposedly is, you shouldn't venture anywhere farther than the Second District...even in there, it's a bit dodgy..." Maylin advised, speaking mainly from personal experience.

"Yeah... I'm not too good at fighting... Sure, with a partner I can take on legions, but by myself I'm hopeless..." he shook his head, wanting to get off that topic, quickly choosing a new song. More specifically, Invincible by Muse. He wasn't sure why he picked it, though that's how he picks most of his songs. He knows them each, and bases his decisions on what he really, really wants to hear. And right now, it happened to be that song.
"So... Know anything fun to do around here?" he asked, hoping the topic would stay off violence and how he was utterly hopeless at fighting.

"So... Know anything fun to do around here?"
Maylin pondered this for a moment...
Well, honestly, I just came out of the most violent part of Traverse Town and now my Inn is destroyed because of a heartless takeover, but I find running away from bounty hunters and the like fun...
"Actually, I'm kind of new to this area of Traverse Town myself...but I find that walking around and getting acquainted with the surroundings is pretty fun..."
Post by qwertyuiopaz on Dec 25, 2008 22:41:38 GMT -4
"Well," he said, standing up, "let's go get acquainted then." He was intending to take a walk, through a place he's never heard of, with someone he barely knew, blasting music likely not recognized by many through his headphones.
He just wanted to live a little, smile truthfully for once. And, so far, it was working. He needed to smile to get rid of his worries and wounds. He thought spending time with this girl may just do that. She seemed nice, and had good taste in music, that was all Rayner could ask for in a friend, right? Sure, other things were nice, but those two things were what mattered most, right? Maybe he was bending the rules a bit just so he could give him an excuse to placing his trust in her, but she did seem trustworthy enough, so why should he be nervous?
Was that it? Was he nervous? What was there to be nervous about? Not finding his friends, getting killed by heartless, getting lost, being stabbed in the back...

"Well," he said, standing up, "let's go get acquainted then."
Maylin smiled; it'd been a long time since she'd talked with anyone...not many people would come to her Inn, and even fewer of them were actually...well, human. Maybe it being destroyed was a good thing...maybe it would be better to just stay here, where it was rather safe, where she wouldn't have to pull out her keyblade or her werewolf form...
"So, you like Muse?" Maylin asked, remembering the song he was strumming before he stood up, "Personally, my favorite song by them is Knights of Cydonia, but all their stuff's pretty great."
Post by qwertyuiopaz on Dec 25, 2008 22:55:20 GMT -4
Rayner nodded twice to both of her statements: they spoke the truth. Finally, someone else who he can connect to music-wise.
"Yeah, I like a lot of their stuff. My favorite would have to be..." he paused to think a minute. He had a lot of their stuff on his mp3 player...
"Time is Running Out, probably" He shrugged, grinned, and walked along.
"I have... Way too much on here, this thing is mega-huge, and I've almost got it filled up," he remarked, looking through all the artists he had. Muse to Metallica, The Doors to Daft Punk, and all the way back from Slayer to Scars on Broadway. He had too much on here, he would have to delete some of them sometime...
Well, he would, if he didn't have a memory attached to each one. Like, for instance, he was listening to Invincible when he went sledding one day with all of his friends back home only to run a little third grader down. They all felt like horrible people, but Hector tried to find ways to justify it. Needless to say, they got kicked out shortly after. Come to find out, they ran down the kid of a police officer who could do that to them. Not good. Still, those were good times...

"I have... Way too much on here, this thing is mega-huge, and I've almost got it filled up,"
Maylin laughed a bit, "There's just too much good music out there, huh?"
Walking along, the girl spotted a noodle vendor...smelling the air, she realized that she hadn't eaten anything since the night before. Her stomach growled in anticipation, and in an attempt to silence it, Maylin clutched it, hoping that somehow it would shut it up.
"Eh heh...say, are you getting hungry?....a-at all?"

'Eh heh...say, are you getting hungry?....a-at all?'
Rayner nodded quickly, eyes slightly widening.
"Yeah, I haven't eaten in a while." He looked around and finally spotted what Maylin spotted. He hadn't really heard of noodle vendors before... Hey, still, beggars can't be choosers. And Rayner liked noodles, so it was fine. He grinned and started walking faster toward it.
