In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

The sun was approaching it's zenith, casting a shadow across the whole of Market Street as it crossed behind the clock tower. The squat little building that sat near the very end of the street looked exceedingly lonely. People seemed to actively avoid the little building. A sign above the door read "Tantulus Performance Theatre" but an older sign that clung to the eaves of the building proclaimed it the Market Street Orphanage.
Slowly, the front door creaked open, and a dark haired young man made his exit. He left slowly, his head slumped low, the boy was obviously fatigued. Nero had spent most of the night renovating his newest acquisition, and was now ready to go grab something to eat and come back for some rest. He squinted at the sun with displeasure as the key turned the tumblers in the door, locking it safely behind him.
"Good afternoon... world" Nero said to himself, his black, bushy tail swiping back and forth as he walked. "Maybe I'll get ice cream."
"It's a nice day... time to come out and play! It's a nice day! Listen to the birds sing, hey!" Kirata sang to herself, making up lyrics to a song as she continued to walk down the pathways. She liked skipping down the roads in Twilight Town... there was nothing to really worry about, and the place was perfectly safe.
Today, she had a different attire on... thanks to being home for quite some time after being gone for two years... it was refreshing to be in other clothes than that dress of hers that she seemed to favor. It was probably because she had picked it up on her travels and it was fairly beautiful to her eyes.
As brought about by her cheerful singing, it was indeed a nice day. The sky was clear and the sun was out. What a wonderful day to be enjoying ice cream as well! Perhaps a popular taste for a little bit of a nostalgic moment? Or perhaps something else that was just as tasty!
"So then that means... either Sea Salt or Rocky Road..." Kirata said to herself as she slowed her skipping and turned her gait into just a normal walk. She was on Market Street, and it was a while since she was able to have anything like ice cream. But as appealing as it sounded... there were just so many choices to choose from. From the Homemade Vanilla to the sweet, yet bitter Coffee flavored ice cream.
"Oh well! I'll decide when I get there~!" Kirata replied to her thoughts, continuing her upbeat gait along the street and humming to herself.
Perhaps the young Fox boy was delirious from lack of sleep, or perhaps it had been a long time since he'd seen genuine perkiness. The woman who walked in front of him seemed as if she was on the verge of critical mass. Nero appraised the girl, hoping maybe that she had something worth nicking. It wasn't that he needed the money, but stealing was something he'd become accustomed to doing.
"Excuse me miss?" Nero wrapped his slender fingers around the woman's left arm, not gripping her tightly, just getting her attention. "I'm new around here, and was wondering maybe if I could get directions? Do you know where I can get some ice cream?" He asked innocently.
"They look to the left, and I look to the right." Nero's thoughts expressed as his free hand rifled through the woman's belongings.
Miss? Well, perhaps to some, but certainly not Kirata herself! No way! She was only seventeen and not getting any younger... though, she certainly did act as if she were younger. Her bubbly nature and general upbeat attitude is what set people off to thinking she was thirteen or even slightly younger! No... her matured look, when people actually decided to give her a second look, made people see that she actually older than how she acted.
"Kirata, please..." Kira replied, giving the person a warm smile. Though... what caught her attention was the fact that this person looked a lot different than other people that wandered the streets of Twilight Town. She noted the ears that poked up from his head and her thoughts immediately dispersed and she suddenly beamed.
"Ooohhhhh how cute! Where'd you get these? Are you a cosplayer?" Kirata suddenly started asking, binging her free hand up to feel the fox-like ears, "and they feel so real, how neat!"
Ice cream? Totally forgotten... fox ears and a fox tail... that was was something that had captured her attention right away.
For just a second, Nero went cross eyed. A warm sensation ran through his body, and every once of willpower in his body was used to prevent him from tapping his foot. Like any fuzzy animal, Nero had found at an early age that people were always going to try and feel his ears. Some would think that it would get old after awhile, but he enjoyed it. Getting petted and scratched felt as good to him as it did to any animal.
"Oooooh, yeah... I'm not a cosplayer." Nero mumbled as his cheeks turned a light shade of pink. "They're real."
If somebody didn't step in, they'd be here all day. The little fox-thief removed his hand from her belongings hopefully unnoticed, and took a step back. "My name's Nero," He said politely stretching out his hand, while trying to keep his ears out of her reach.
((He probably wouldn't be happy with what he found anyways XD Kirata's not got much besides her weapons))
Oh, so he wasn't a cosplayer and those were real? Real... seriously?! That was probably one of the most coolest things that Kirata's ever heard of or seen of in this world... and this was her home world! Sure, there were Moogles that roamed about... but there seemed to be Moogles in every world she went to... so, they weren't as fascinating. A guy with fox ears and a fox tail... now that was something worth 'oh-ing' over.
"Oh wow! How adorable!" Kirata giggled, retracting her hands and grinning to Nero.
"Nero, huh?" Kirata started, repeating the name over in her mind. It sounded nice... a little out of the ordinary... but then again... how many 'Kirata's did you run into yourself? Not many, that was for sure... so far as she knew, she was the only one with that unique of a name.
"Well, very nice to meet you Nero! I'm Kirata, or you can just call me Kira for short!" Kirata chirped, reaching out her own hand and giving the proper custom of a handshake done.
Nero returned a warm smile to the young woman and stretched his hand out. He took her hand in his and shook it gently, before letting his own hand return to it's pocket. It would probably be for the the best if his pesky hands were just left where he couldn't steal any of this nice young ladies belongings.
"The pleasure's all mine." Nero replied to her, my she sure was bubbly. The fox-boy had met a few women who acted a bit like she did. Mostly adoring fans from other worlds. They'd been annoying to say the least, but Kira seemed nice enough. "So, I was just going to grab some ice cream. You wouldn't be interested in joining me would you? My treat?"
"How did I go from stealing from this girl to paying for her? Oh well... at least she has pretty eyes." Nero's thoughts wandered as he waited patiently for a reply, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet, tail swishing lightly against the cobbled street.
"You were going out for some ice cream, too?" Kirata asked, "my! What a coincidence! I was actually just going to get some myself..." Her grin turned into a sheepish one and her right hand immediately went up to rubbing the back of her neck.
Company... it was nice to have after some time. Sure, there was Kaze, but Kirata hadn't seen him around for a while. Ah well, maybe he was lurking around the town somewhere... if not... well then hey, he went to another world. Maybe.
"Anyways, the extra company would be nice! I actually just returned home not too long ago from being gone for two years..." Kira explained, "I haven't gotten around to everything... but, wow, a lot of things sure have changed while I was gone!" She placed a hand on her hip and looked around. Yup, things were certainly a bit different... guess that's what two years did to you.
"Oh yeah, I still got it." Nero's mind seemed awfully smug, but he was genuinely glad to have some company. Loneliness was one of the fox-boy's greatest enemies, and without his Moogle teacher he'd found himself with no one.
"Yes, let's." The youth was certainly surprised to hear that this petite young woman had already seen other worlds. "Two years huh? I only just returned from a seven year sabbatical. My mentor went missing so with the money we'd accumulated, I returned home and began working on renovating my old home into a theater. Things have changed a lot."
The pair made their way to the stand by the beach where the same ice cream vendor still sold the same flavors of ice cream that he'd sold seven years ago. "Well... not this guy." Nero said with a smirk. "Where did you go when you left Kira?" The triangular ears on Nero's head perked up a bit in anticipation of her answer. He'd seen many worlds, but the idea that there were as many worlds as stars in the sky excited him.
A seven year sabbatical... hmmm... perhaps that's why she never saw him around the town? No, no... if this was Nero's home, then surely... well, hmm. Kirata was born and raised in Twilight Town... she thought she had seen all of what it had to offer with that friend of hers. Well, guess that wasn't the case for this one!
"Oh... so sorry to hear about your mentor.... And your home? It's being made into a theater? Wow, sounds like you're putting some effort into that." Kirata replied, putting her hands behind her back and lacing her fingers together.
"Where did you go when you left, Kira?"
Kirata paused for a moment, her eyes staring at nothing in particular. It was a good few seconds before she actually opened her mouth to say anything, "somewhere that was very much like this world... only more... empty...." The thoughts of that town were still a little disturbing to Kira. A world that was very much like her own... only... there were important things that were missing. Her friends... her family... and the one person who was like a sister to her.
"I tried desperately to find a way out of a place that felt more like a prison than an actual world...."
"Woah, sounds serious. I'm totally glad I didn't wind up in a world like that. At least I had a way out even when I went to a crappy world."
Nero had never been in a situation that he could not escape from. Even as a small child, he had struck out on his own. When the world became boring, he left. When traveling was no longer exciting, he returned home. Freedom was just a given for the fox-boy.
"We'll have two ice creams." Nero pulled out his wallet, "I'll have sea salt."
He turned to face Kirata with a questioning expression on his face. The girl was extremely odd, and he wondered if her choice in ice cream would be equally odd.
Getting over her thoughts in a heartbeat, Kirata's contagious, bubbly nature came back to surface as soon as Nero had asked the familiar vendor for his ice cream. Giving another thought to what she wanted, the ginger-haired girl made up her mind and smiled, "I think I'll also have sea salt."
She looked to Nero and her expression changed to her also giving him a questioning look, "wh-what? I don't have something on my face do I?" immediately, the girl started digging in her skirt pockets, looking for something like a compact mirror.
Oh, that'd be really embarrassing... to have something on your face the whole time you were talking with someone. How irritating it was!
"My... I don't seem to have it on me..." Kirata said to herself more than anything else. Being the type of person she was, she normally forgot things at home save for her dual spiked fans which were in their holsters on her white belt.
A warm smile grew on Nero's face. It was amusing to watch the girl flounder. He handed some munny to the ice cream man and in return received a pair of light blue ice creams.
"Oh, you don't have anything on your face." Nero said to the girl, "Here's your ice cream."
The dark haired boy nibbled at his own ice cream, as he handed off one of the chilly treats to Kirata.
"Have you ever wanted to leave again? Twilight Town I mean?" Nero himself had wondered when he would board his ship again and leave to find his mentor.
A sheepish smile found it's way onto Kirata's face as Nero had told her that there actually wasn't anything. Looking to the ice cream, the girl realized that she wasn't the one who had paid for any of it and a pang of guilt hit her.
"You didn't have to... I could have..." Kirata started, slowly reaching out and taking the ice cream that was handed to her, "I'll be sure to pay you back, I promise."
Though, the next question had Kirata thinking... Had she ever wanted to leave Twilight Town again? Well... the answer that most would suspect of her would be 'no, I don't want to leave. This is my home, and I want to stay here.' but her thoughts were saying otherwise.
"Well... yeah... I mean, I have a family that lives here, sure... but, I don't want to live my whole life in a world that I've seen just about everything in," Kirata replied, licking her ice cream, "there's also a friend of mine... she's not in this world anymore... I need to look for her. If anything, she's probably out there, looking for me...."
Munny was a commodity for Nero. The youth had made lots and pissed away just as much in his acting career. Should he ever be low, he'd just steal some. It didn't bother him at all to pick up the tab for Kirata. He would do it again in a heart-beat. Taking another bite from his ice cream, Nero pondered just how he would phrase his next few sentences. This girl had after all, only just met him, but she had someone to look for too.
"Want to come with me? We can look for our friends together." Nero figured that an upfront approach would be best. He hadn't planned on leaving until he'd finished rebuilding his home, but the theater would still be waiting when he returned.
