In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

A large, dark shape flew above the land, circling Ansem's Castle twice and stopping. The Sun made it hard for anyone to get a good sighting of this new, massive creature, and Indeed, many people were afraid that it was a new type of Heartless. The large dragon was, in fact, not a new heartless, nor was it an old one. It was part Gummi Ship, part living dragon, and it was massive- boasting a size that would have made Maleficent... purple with envy. A cloud shifted over the sun, allowing a better view of the creature for those far away, but it wasn't exactly re-assuring, as the creature was about half the height of Ansem's Castle. Before anyone could actually gain much intel about the creature, it flew off into the air, and out of the atmosphere.
At the castle, a tall figure in a suit of ornate dragon armor dusted himself off, his spear resting against a nearby wall. I'm gonna set up in here... if I can. And then I'll call you in to make a pickup, and we'll go into town. It might be a while, Bloodbane, so get Comfortable.
The reply was quick: Good luck, and watch for heartless and Nobodies. Atlantace closed the communication link, turning his attention to his surroundings. The fly in had shown him that much of the surrounding area was badly damaged, but there was a great effort made in restoration, especially around the castle. Most of the land was barren and gray, and Atlantace had even seen a few very large Heartless roaming about, far away from the town.
As he picked up his ornate lance, the Greater Ranseur, he shook his head. "We'll go hunting later, maybe. Once I find Aushe. He's gotta be snooping around here somewhere... If not the castle, then somewhere in town, probably. But for now..."
Atlantace turned his attention to the entrance at the end of the balcony, wondering what he'd be finding once past them. Shrugging, he walked forward. He explored the castle, going through the winding corridors. He had started at the top, and the map he had bought at the space port was helping greatly.
Now... if only the map had an Aushe locating device.
Atlantace made his way down to the main entrance, realizing that the area was mostly... empty. At least, the Upper levels were- the layer of dust that he had trudged through was evidence enough.
He rested on the middle stair of a grand staircase that seemed to be nearest to the entrance. Bloodbane, there's nobody here. I want to check tow- Hold on... what was that noise?
Bloodbane did not respond, allowing Atlantace to focus on his surroundings. Standing up slowly, Atlantace brought his lance to a ready position. The footsteps could be heard clearly now, but Atlantace could not discern what made them, so he readied himself to jump into the air as soon as the creature came into the room. If they were a heartless, they wouldn't even get much of a chance to react.
Footsteps echoëd from the hall, getting louder and closer at a slow pace. Aswel als the typical clancking of metal. The sound of plate armor, beeing in sync with the footsteps.
Finaly they reached the doorway. A heavy breathing could now be heard. Muffled away by some obstruction, giving it a hollow iron sound. From the shadows, first a silvery gauntlet over black leather appeared that grasped the edge of the doorframe. Followed seconds later by the appeareance of a metallic wolf's head. Strumpling inside, slightly bend over. A large man in plate armor with an imbedded black cape walked in.
As it was clear to see that the wolf's head was just a shaped helmet. The knight was walking slowly and fatigued. Creeping forward by the last of his strenght. Clearly breathing heavily as cold waterdamp escaped the ventilationholes at the mouthpiece. His armor had slight frostmarks all over. On his side was a masterpiece longsword in a ornamented scabbard. And on his back a kite shield of prestigues quality.
Atlantace relaxed the muscles in his legs and returned his grip on the Ranseur into a neutral position. He knew (at least) that the being appearing before him was not a heartless.
"Ho there! Who treads within the halls of this castle?"
Smirking and brushing his light hair out of his face, he jumped from the landing of the staircase, landing lightly, a good distance in front of the new arrival. "Greetings, stranger."
Placing his gauntlet covered hands on his hips, he looked the Lycan-esque (wolf like) warrior standing before him. There seemed to be some sort of frost marks on the armor, and there was a definite fatigue in the way the man was moving.
"Are you ok? I mean... What in the name of the Goddess have you encountered? Do you need any assistance? The area around here is Heartless free, I can vouch that as a fact. Also, I can preform healing magics that are potent enough to remedy the physical ailments."
Atlantace smiled, his fiery orange eyes lighting up as he spoke. "However, if you refuse my help, I can understand that. However, I am still curious to know what put you into such a state."
Looking the knight up and down once more, Atlantace took note of the elegant scabbard and shield on the being's back. The man was most definitely experienced in the way of warfare, and would probably prove to be an excellent ally. Hmmm... I wonder what the story behind this man is.
It wasn't untill Atlantace called out to him that the wolf knight noticed his presence. In an trained reflex he righted himself, looking up while his righthand grasped the handle of his longsword. The knight needed to lean back against the wall to keep standing upright and observe the stranger.
But as moments went by and Atlantace continuëd talking; his grip loosened as it became clear there was no hostile intent. But his head jerked up a bit by the mentioning of the word heartless. Slowly the strenght to keep upright was fleeing his body again. Troubled he started to speak.
"Greetings good knight... I am Sir Lucas Lunaris the Seventh,... Son of ... Baron Lunaris the sixth of Nordenfrosd. ... Forgive my intrusion in your castle... but i mean no ill content. And if it poses no burden... then i would gladly accept your hospitable offer of aid."
After those words he dropped down untill one knee and sighed heavily again. Despite beeing nearly out of breath, Lucas still upholded the noble manners and protocol of royalty.
Atlantace smiled. "Burden? I would not have offered if it were to be considered a burden." Atlantace made a fist with his left hand, focusing as a green aura spread about his hand. He opened his hand and held it up, his palm facing Sir Lucas. Opening his eyes, Atlantace willed the healing magics to be transferred to the man in front of him, and as he did so the white knight was bathed in a soft green light. "Cura!"
Atlantace commanded the magic, and as he did so, the green auras intensified, healing the white knight's injuries, internal and external. It also would remove the man's fatigue.
"Now, we will get a few things straight. Sir Lunaris, this is not my castle, and never will it be. This castle, as far as I can tell, belongs to the man whose research into the heart and its powers created the links between worlds, and then his apprentices, searching for ways to capture this power, created the heartless. This is the Castle where it all began, Ansem the Wise's castle. That man's whereabouts are completely unknown, many rumor that he is dead. However, I am not here for the sights."
Atlantace's orange eyes glinted in the low light as he looked at the other knight once again. "I am here because I am searching for my King, who happens to be one of the greatest friends I have. And, I am on a quest to bring balance! If you are an enemy to those that would bring the worlds, nay the universe, under the dominion of darkness, then you have an ally in me."
Atlantace made a short bow, bending at the hip. "My name is Atlantace B. Drake, First Adviser and personal Arms-master of King Aushe V. Wuurcyan. I am Dragon-bonded, the last of my planet, and probably the only person who left my home planet by my own means, as it was destroyed as I left." Atlantace shook his head, thinking of the people of Wuurcya.
"I would introduce Bloodbane to you, but at the moment he is on the other side of the world, re-supplying. Before he returns, I would like to know what put you in such a condition. What manner of creature or guardian resides in the lower levels of this castle?"
Sir Lucas first looked surprised as the magical energy started to whirl around and grew increasingly stronger. Even some anxiety plagued the wolf knight that hadn't encountered such arts before. While the Cura spell settled on his body and executed it's effect, it revived him fully. Baffled the knight was left behind as the energy dispersed and it looked at his own hands with mild disbelief.
As Atlantace then started to explain, Sir Lucas politely heard him out. And eventhough the black visor sheltered his face, it was clear that his eyes grew big with the increasing explanation. The knight was eagerly hanging on his lips as Atlantace made the origin of the heartless clear to him.
Finaly after Atlantace was finished, Sir Lucas slowly righted himself. Standing tall and proud, clearly recovered from his ordeals. And then spoke with clear voice but a minorly unsettling tone:" Sir Drake, I'm truelly sorry for your immense lost. Yet my own world is doomed to suffer a simular fate unless i find a way here to stop them from overtaking my world aswel. I'm glad to inform you that the heartless are enemies of mine. And i would stop at nothing to eradicate them from the face of the world... or worlds... Still i must dissapoint you, for no creature or guardian is responsible for my weakened state earlier. But only the sheer forces i had to withstand to travel to this world. The voyage nearly drained me completely, as i emerged in the dark halls of this large castle. Yet it was worth it as this is the source of my worlds problem. And the beginning of my own quest to prevent them from taking the castle and the barony of Nordenfrosd."
Sir Lucas then kneeled down in front of Atlantace and bowed his head. Showing his place in comparison to him. "Sir Drake, i believe the Lunar Goddess has aided me in finding you. For truelly i could not have meet a better kindred knight to commence my task with. There is still many i don't know and that confuses me. And your powers surpasses those of our highest priestess. I am gratefull and in your debt. Allow me to serve you to repay you, and learn what i must about this struggle that obviously threatens a far greater number then just those on my world."
Finaly Sir Lucas cocked his head up to look up at Atlantace and await his answer as he remained kneeling down.
Atlantace blinked in surprise. "Hmm... that is unfortunate. I was not aware that the journey could be physically detrimental, as I was transported by my companion Bloodbane."
Atlantace laughed lightly as the man remained kneeling. "Well, Friend, let us get some things straight- stop kneeling. It is not necessary." Sighing, Atlantace continued. "Out here, formalities are not needed, only politeness. In fact, I would appreciate it if you simply called me Atlantace." shifting his position, Atlantace continued. "Also, I am still developing my skills. they aren't perfect, and every now and then I get myself into spots of trouble."
Atlantace smiled. "And of course, you may accompany me, so long as you do not mind the occasional hunting and killing of giant heartless." Atlantace's thoughts returned to the giant heartless that roamed the lands, as he was eager to put his abilities to the test. "Would you like to explore this place with me? or would you like to go into the town?"
Still from his kneeled position, Sir Lucas replied with a confident:" Sir Atlantace, you have my sword." The wolf knight then righted himself and gave a nod with his head towards him.
Then Sir Lucas brought his hands to the side of his helmet, as he clicked open the locks that kept it firmly in place. The helmet was costum made to fit his head exactly. After unhinging the attachment to the rest of his platemail. He lifted the wolf shaped helmet off from his head. A pale face that barely saw sun in his lifetime appeared. With thick black locks already starting to grow grey cascading down the sides of his face. Woodbrown eyes met those of Atlantace.
Now with a normal sounding voice, as it's no longer deformed by the helmet he spoke. More clearly and also with a grim expression:" It would be an honor to join you in the hunt of giant heartless. It would provide me with knowledge and experience most beneficial for my own ends and the survival of my world. But if this castle is the source of the heartless, then i would prefer to first learn of this castle and about our enemies. And the differences of our worlds. Seria has long been untouched by any form of outwordly intrusions. And so our methods of travel are limited and difficult. "
Sir Lucas kept his helmet under his arm by his side. As he looked around the room near the entrance and the giant staircases leading up into the castle. Taking in the sights and the layout of the architecture.
Atlantace smiled. "Well, for all my knowledge, these upper parts where never really used. I did a pretty thorough search of the rooms. No Heartless, no Nobodies, and nothing but dust. Not even covered-up furniture. I'd suggest, if we are looking at Heartless origins, we should descend. You up to it?"
As Atlantace spoke, he walked over to the large doors at one end of the hallway, beckoning Lucas closer. "Also, at the moment, we are very far above the ground, so if we wanted to go into town, we'd either have to jump, fly, or go through the depths. Jumping will get us killed, flying has to wait until tomorrow, and climbing is more suicidal than jumping. I say, lets descend into the basement of this skeletal castle. Maybe we will encounter something challenging!"
Gripping one of the door handles, Atlantace pulled. Nothing happened. He pulled again, harder. The door seemed to open slightly, before something black poked through, causing Atlantace to quickly release the door, which slammed shut on the black object. there was a roar, the entire door shuddering.
Atlantace unhooked his Ranseur from his back, smiling. "You said something before about fighting large Heartless?" As he spoke, flakes of the rusty door began to fall off, revealing a black, swirling mass. Atlantace looked back at Sir Lucas. "Well, it looks like this one will be fun!"
As the roar sounded, Sir Lucas jumped back in a reflex. Quickly grasping for his sword to counter the possible treat. Seeing how the door started to flake away. The Wolf Knight hastely placed his helmet back on his head and attached it to his plate mail. While unhooking the kite shield from his back. A black sigil with a wolf's head howling to the moon was on it. The family symbol of Sir Lucas.
Seeing how Atlantace was getting ready to head into the void he answerd while yelling: "Truelly thou must jest! You cannot be serious to dive into this abyss. Are thou certain that our foe is not beyond us?" This form of opponent was something that Sir Lucas had never encountered before. So he was naturally cautious. However he had given his word and wouldn't go back onto it.
Seeing as how the battle had not yet started, Sir Lucas stood upright and brought his long sword in front of his face. Taking a praying stance as he started to speak with a low voice. While slowly, a faint shimmer of light started to gather and glow over his body:
"Lunar Goddess, thy children heed to battle once more. Guide our weapons and shield our skin. Clear our minds of doubt and fear. Let us strike your wrath to our opponents. By the power of the moon, make us... ready for battle!"
The faint light that had gathered on Lucas his body dispersed as a strong magical pulse that died out after 10 meters. Atlantace standing into the aura could experience the beneficial effects from the prayer. As his moral, focus and eagerness to fight rose a bit higher."
Sir Lucas then took on a fighting stance, ready to charge. Although he glanced at Atlantace once more and awaited his lead.
Atlantace, watching the pieces flake off of the door, nodded. "I am certain. This door is actually a heartless, and that means that we need to get rid of it!"
Sir lucas's prayer field had reached Atlantace, who was amazed. "wow... that is an interesting ability you have there, Sir Lucas!"
Atlantace, feeling a surge of sharper focus, examined the door again, readying a Jump. After a few seconds of examining, Atlantace smirked. "Ready? Here it comes!"
The door let out a roar, shaking as it did so. the black swirling mass solidified, producing two human-esque forms merged within a black door background. The heartless had two arms, each with five red claws, and swung them about wildly as it solidified. The heartless's eyes were characteristically yellow, and it seemed that there were two heartless, fused together at the waist. The entire doorway was filled with the body of the heartless, which roared again as it beheld the two knights standing in front of it.
Atlantace, seeing that the "door" had fully revealed itself as a heartless, Jumped up into the air, Ranseur glowing. Hovering for several seconds, he arched back slightly and used the momentum of the jump to slam his weapon into the enemy, stabbing it through the center of one of the "bodies". The Thresholder shuddered with the attack.
As he recovered and removed his weapon, the Thresholder swiped at him twice. He was able to block one of the swipes with the shaft of the Ranseur, but the other swipe hit him in the side, sending him flying back. Recovering his weapon as he got up, he took a position within the radius of the wolf knight's prayer.
"well! that was a little clumsy of me! thank the gods for this armor though, or that would have hurt a lot more than it did!"
Without waiting for a response, Atlantace surged forward, yelling as he did so, parrying another swipe and then stabbing the creature's outstretched arm. Atlantace was battling with the right side of the monster, occasionally dodging out of the way of a claw swipe as he sliced and stabbed, making sure not to get in the way of Sir Lucas.
((kinda long, hope it's allright! I figure that this thing has somewhere close to five health bars, or roughly 500 health. I figure that a normal swipe from Atlantace will do anywhere between 5-15 damage, and that the Jump attack did at least 100 damage. Go wild!))
As the Thresholder manifested itself, it caused the Wolf Knight to gaze upon it in horrified awe. This strange mutilated figure of two bodies fused together at the waist and being part of the door was mind boggling. Sir Lucas was well known with man to man combat. But to fight such huge creatures was a new experience for him.
The sight of Atlantance performing a gravity defying jump attack spurred him into action as well. The knight was impressed by the powerful leap that his companion could preform. It almost seemed that he could soar the sky like a true dragon. With his heightened focus due to his prayer, Sir Lucas narrowed his eyes and observed the Thresholder. Analyzing the grotesque figure to device a suitable attack plan. So far it's only offensive weaponry seemed to consist of the two huge arms at the sides. Unquestionably powerful, but also not very efficiënt against two humans their size. Especially since they were locked to the immobile door frame. Atlantace was focusing on the right half of the Thresholder. Leaving the left half open for him.
With a grunting roar, the Wolf Knight charged at the Thresholder with Atlantace. Approaching the threatening reach of the arm, Sir Lucas saw the red clawed arm swinging his way. Quickly he blocked the arm swipe with his shield. Feeling how the force caused him to slide backwards for a couple of meters. The steel greaves grinding over the castle floor. Still the knight remained balanced and dashed with raised sword in the opening that now presented itself. Lashing out at the left side of the body that was portrayed in the door.
Sir Lucas his longsword hacked and slashed with much ferocity. As he often sought shelter under the cover of his shield to fend off the long arm that tried to hurt him. The large claw balded into a fist and hammered down on the Wolf Knight's head. Causing Sir Lucas to be knocked prone. If it wasn't for his full plate armor, the damage would more then likely have been lethal. Driven by adrenaline, Sir Lucas scuffled himself to his feet to continue the onslaught as his deformed voice sounded from out his helmet to Atlantace. "This foe is indeed mighty and power full. It can withstand blows that would have ended a man's life. I hope it won't outlast our strength."
Atlantace, as he dodged and weaved and slashed, marveled at the strength of his fellow knight. Jumping back out of the creature's range, he paused, watching. He was about to rush to the fallen knight's side, but the man quickly regained his feet, commenting on the strength of their opponent.
Atlantace smiled and shook his head. "Actually, I think we are beginning to wear the creature down!" Atlantace examined the creature again, noticing that it seemed to be moving in a way that betrayed a heavy breathing. Smiling, Atlantace focused within himself. the temporary magical drain of using a cure spell had left him, and he felt the magic returning to him. Holding up his arm, he closed his eyes and called upon the power of fire. "Rage! Fira breath!"
Holding a closed fist up against his mouth, his eyes snapped open. A ball of flame gathered as he opened his palm , which he launched towards the Thresholder. The ball of flame split into thirds, homing in on the right half of the large heartless, two of which connected, producing a loud screech from the creature. As he shifted back into an attacking stance, a trail of smoke escaped from the corner of his mouth, but he paid no attention and charged forward, spinning his Ranseur and stabbing into the creature's hand three times. ((Thresholder health=170))
As Atlantace drew back, he noticed that the Thresholder's mouths were open. he dropped into another ready stance, unsure of what was next.
"Be wary, It looks as though we are about to see a new attack!"
As Atlantace said this, a black and purple beam shot out at him, narrowly missing as Atlantace dodged forward with a rolling maneuver. the ground where he had been standing moments beforehand was scorched black and seemed to crumble, as if eaten by an acid.
"Goddess protect us. That is a nasty attack!" Atlantace focused on the creature once again. the mouths were closed, and the creature resumed paying full attention to the lunar knight. Atlantace charged forward, one palm touching the blade of his Ranseur, making it glow with an eerie blue light.
"Chill this creature! Cold steel!" As Atlantace commanded the magic, the blue glow intensified. Drawing back the Ranseur, Atlantace stabbed forward, straight into one of the mouths of the creature. The eerie blueish glow transferred slowly to the Thresholder, which took advantage of the situation to swat Atlantace, sending him flying back. As he picked himself up, the Thresholder roared- but nothing happened. the Blueish glow seemed to flicker about the creature's head. Atlantace smiled.
"Well, we wont have to worry about those beams any more!" As he said this, he ran forward and jumped to where his Ranseur was lodged, and pulled it out. Landing and quickly blocking a few strikes from the creature, Atlantace noticed that it's 'breathing' was getting heavier. A sure sign... the creature is almost dead!
"It is almost done, Sir Lunaris! Strike true, and we will have won the battle!" As Atlantace said this, he stabbed the creature several times, dodging a fist slam and blocking a swipe of the claws. The creature roared again, shuddering slightly.
Sir Lucas was battling on with much ferocity. Hacking away skillfully with his longsword while withstanding the damage from the sweeping arms rather then avoiding them. Each blow drives the Wolf Knight back but he keeps charging in again and again. Relying on his armor to keep him safe for the battle. Even though the punishment it was taking was starting to show.
As Atlantace stepped back to unleash his more powerful attacks, Sir Lucas kept the Thresholder busy and it's attention fixed on him. Leaving him wide open for the devastating attacks of Ranseur. With Atlantace's warning as the mouth's opened. Sir Lucas jumped back and took a defensive position. As the beam was shot out from it's mouth. The knight blocked it with his shield. The sheer force was driving him backward again, as it burned the insignia away on the kite shield. The symbol of the wolfs head howling at the full moon was erased and the kite shield severely damaged. Still it fulfilled it's purpose beautifully in shielding Sir Lucas himself from the damage of the attack.
Sir Lucas gazed upon his scorched shield, as it was now buckled and weakened. His wolf helmet hided whatever expression was currently on his face. But his body stance betrayed to be a little overtaking by the powerful attack. Surely the shield would not protect him anymore against a second strike. Luckily Atlantace then prevented the Thresholder of ever being able to preform such a feat anymore by a powerful frost strike at it's mouth. Sir Lucas could feel the cold air from the impact fall over him in a refreshing sensation.
Seeing how the Heartless was weakened severely, it spurred him into the final charge. With a battle cry the Wolf Knight called upon his last reserves of his strength and dashed forward. The Thresholder tried to stop his advantage by slamming it's long arm down on top of him. But Sir Lucas used his broken shield to shield bash the arm out of his path. By this impact, the handle broke, losing the ability to be used properly. In a reflex, Sir Lucas could grab the shield before it fell and was unfortunately halted in his charge. Seeing the large arm floating beside him, and the ominous head of the Heartless. Sir Lucas did not hesitate and brought his left arm that was holding the broken shield back behind his body, before swinging his body round to hurl the shield toward it's head. The flying scrap slashed straight into the Heartless his face, causing it to let out a painful roar, and blind it for the moment.
Unleashing his anger, the Wolf Knight turned to the large arm and brought his longsword above his head. Holding the handle with both hands for maximum strength. The thick black log like arm was then severed from the door frame in a quick succession of hard overhead chops. Each hack cleaving deeper into the physical darkness that made up it's anatomy. Before it finally broke off, leaving only a stump left.
Again the Thresholder screamed out in pain. Sir Lucas grabbed hold of the top of the stump with his gauntlet. Right before the monster jerked the remainder of it's arm upward toward his face to examine the wound. This caused the Wolf Knight to be pulled upward and launched him into the air. Ending up before his face, at the apex of the launch. The longsword was placed ready as the reflection shimmered across the yellow beady eyes. It seemed to spur open in fear by seeing the cold steel only inches away from it's face. Sir Lucas then let out a furious roar and stabbed his longsword as hard and deep as possible into the Thresholders head. Thrusting with both hands and the last of his strength.
((Thresholder= DESTROYED!)) ((sorry for the delay))
As Sir Lucas unleashed his finishing assault, Atlantace stayed out of the way, watching, amazed. After the final strike, the Heartless's body began to dissipate, from the ground up, revealing a very large, very battered wooden door.
Atlantace blinked a couple times in surprise. The door had many holes, slash marks, and one smoking, black smear. As the Heartless fully dissipated, the door splintered and fell apart, revealing the empty corridor behind it.
"Excellent fighting my friend! I think that the credit for this victory is yours. in fact-" As Atlantace spoke, a tremendous amount of munny, four high potions, a couple of green health orbs, and a small box popped out of the void where the Thresholder was, moments before. "I think you should take a larger portion of the reward. Enough to repair your shield, hopefully. Also, you can have the small box, if you'd like! I wonder what it contains?"
Atlantace, in the meantime, attached the Ranseur to his back. Peering into the hallway before them, he pondered. What a finishing blow! this man is one experienced soldier! I wonder... if he can pray and recieve such an affect as he did at the beginning of the battle... Atlantace's mind drifted through all of the different types of warriors that he had encountered in his travels. One stood out in his mind as being similar to Sir. Lucas. Similar in the sense that the female knight would call upon her goddess's blessing to smite enemies- either directly, by asking for a holy blast that could decimate a small radius, or indirectly, by asking for an aura about her sword, one that imbued it with the power of the light magics. However, in order to achieve such power, Atlantace had no clue as to the trials and tribulations... but It seemed that Sir Lunaris would probably be able to learn it.
Looking back to the other warrior, Atlantace smiled. "That was indeed, an exhilarating battle. I would greatly appreciate your sword cleaving heartless along with my Ranseur as we explore this castle."
