In a cataclysm known as the Nightfall, the worlds were almost completely destroyed by a harrowing surge of darkness.
In the shadows of the ensuing chaos a new group has taken shape. Led by an Aegyl named Kalos, the 11th Hour touts an esoteric knowledge of how to combat the darkness and restore the worlds. They might be the worlds’ best chance at survival; but nobody really knows enough about them to confirm or deny their claims.
On the brink of collapse, the universe holds its breath in anticipation. Of restoration? Of destruction? It is up to individuals like yourself to decide.

She wouldn't say she jumped...just...sprung up to regain her defense.
Sitting turned out to mean sleeping and by sleeping she meant not paying attention to her surroundings. So when the bat's voice sounded again Sage leapt up to get back in her defensive stance. Straining her eyes she finally spotted him clinging onto the branch nearest to her. If it weren't for earlier when the bat had looked so alone Sage would have shooed him away within seconds of seeing him.
"Hi."
She was tired, she would admit that, so when she replied she had to wince as it came off a bit too tired. Now that the sun was fully up it seemed she wasn't going to be going to sleep for a while. At least this tree made a pretty nice shade. She tipped her head up further and looked at the bat as if she never knew he was a vampire. He looked ordinary enough, but she felt she should get to know him a little better first.

Well, he wasn't on fire, and he wasn't pinned to the ground, nor was he shunned. This was starting off better than Louis had expected.
He fluttered down from the branch to the ground, looking up to Sage. She was listening to him. This wouldn't be bad at all.
"I wish to apologize for my behavior earlier. I am truly sorry for the way I acted, and if there is any way I can make it up to you within my limitations, I wish to do so."

Her ears flipped down and she bit her lower lip. He didn't see too bad, so why was she still having her doubts? She pawed the ground and looked up at him.
"There's no need to make anything up for me. Just tell me...are you used to that form outside of this world?"
Yes it was random. But she needed to somehow get into a conversation with him and what better way than to talk about other forms. Never had she met a vampire so she was rather interested. All children knew about stories dealing with vampires, but with each child they differed a bit more. Sage was rather intrigued about getting to know the truth about vampires.
Used to this form? Was she trying to start conversation. Well, t'was a legitimate question.
Looking down to his wings and tiny limbs, he gave a small shrug. "More or less. It's not necessarily my standard. I do prefer my humanoid form. You know, sturdy legs and arms and such?"
((No need to apologize when I end up with one shorter D: ))

Well it was a start, but not really answering her question.
"No...I mean...outside of this world."
She looked flustered for a second as she realized just how ridiculous that question sounded. Just how many people go around asking if they had a second form? Probably just one; Sage. Her nervous habit of pawing the ground had started to show, for the dirt under her feet had warn away and given way to a shallow hole.
Her once flaming tail--now plain and normal (*sigh*)--covered the now visible hole in hopes the vampire didn't see how nervous she was. Her eyes glinted as the sun finished rising and Sage tried her best to smile at the bat. Her feeling about him lay somewhere between the middle--not fully trusting him, but not fully hating him either.
Looking towards the now-risen sun, Louis moved himself a bit closer to the tree's trunk to avoid the sun's harmful light.
As for Sage's question, his answer didn't really change.
"Wait, we are talking about my bat form, right? If so, it's not much different of an answer. I mean, why walk when you can fly, right? Of course, it's always nice to have some feet on solid ground. Also, I can't necessarily fight with such tiny bones."
Louis smiled again. At least he was managing conversation with someone. It wasn't too often he got some company. As he looked for Sage's response, he sat himself down comfortably against the tree.

So there were other shape-shifters out there. But they had different weaknesses than her. She caught the bat move toward the tree just a bit more to avoid the sun's light. Ridiculous, how could such a thing be hurt...by light? Sure light is technically heat and heat hurts but not light, so how could light hurt him in any way at all? She had to know.
"...You can't be serious, does light really hurt you?"
Her jade-green eyes widened as she tried to figure it out. How could sunlight hurt anyone? She was still lost in thought as she heard him speak again. Immediately her full attention was on him as she waited to hear his reply.
Glancing out at the sunlit plains, Louis made a small chuckle as he looked back to Sage. It was understandable that she ask that. After all, the premise was slightly ridiculous. It's not like he was completely albino or something.
"Actually, it's not all light. Just the sunlight. I believe it hurts me due to some sort of reaction not to the light, but to the sun's UV rays. But in general, yes, the sunlight hurts me. It won't kill me, mind you, but it's not exactly a pleasant sensation. It can pain me enough to leave me paralyzed. Maybe someday I'll be able to build up an immunity of some sort to it all, though, for now, it hurts me like a burn from the fires of Hades."
His light grin had become a look of contemplation, pondering again this conflict between nature and himself. Louis snapped out of it, looking back to Sage with another gentle smile. "Any more questions you wish to ask?"
Post by sagefirefox on Dec 31, 2008 20:24:29 GMT -4
Ah, so it had to do with the UV rays or whatever they were. Sage slimly understood the concept of them, but not enough to really care to go in depth with her other questions. Besides, she felt like it was time he asked her some questions in return for all the questions he had to answer. "Erm, no. How about you? Got any questions for me?" If only she were off this cursed world and could be able to shift. In this form she had to crane her head in order to actually see the bat. If only she were able to rest peacefully and have a nice chat without feeling like your head was as heavy as a bag of flour.

It wasn't the problem that his question was clear and somewhat asking for a bit, it was just that Sage herself didn't really know. Not bothering to try and make him wait, she looked out at the sunset thoughtfully and began her tale.
"I was born on the world of Yorani, though my memories there are very blurry. Some believe that long ago when you breeded a fox with a phoenix, you would get a Firefox, of course the processes seems near impossible. Firefoxes like me have usually the same appearance; however I shift into any type of Firefox instead of the regular orange coloured one. This is because my mother was not of the Firefox origin, rather she was human. Having been married to a human was one this on Yorani, but having a child was another. They fled off the world when I came into it; I only remember seeing small foxes with fire on different places on their bodies running around in a field of flowers.
"We settled down in Twilight Town, and my parents came to learn to live with the crime and danger. At the age of 4 thieves ambushed her on a journey and killed her. My father died a couple weeks later from depression and starvation, overall: a broken heart. I moved in with my aunt, on my mother's side, and wished everyday that I had instead died with my father. I was treated like scum and never once treated like her nephew. At the age of 10 my aunt had received news from another human that frequented the world of Yorani and trading with our species that another world had been destroyed. It was, in fact, Yorani.
"Then at the age of 13 I was kicked out by my aunt, and have ever since been searching for another Firefox, for anyone that has survived. Though so far I have found nothing; no one."
Realization hit a short while after that while she had told her tale, she had been walking back and forth and moving her paw this way and that, like she was reading a book to a group of kindergarteners. But in Sage's point of view it was like she was telling a friend her story. Friend...that's exactly what this very bat may be. With that she sat back on her haunches and smiled up at him.
Duly noting and storing to memory this newfound information about the Firefox, he heard out the tale of the girl. She was hurting with the burdens of a painful past and entrusting it with him. This was important. He reached over to Sage and patted her paw with his wing, comforting her.
"There now, Ms. Sage. It's a big universe out there," said he as he indicated towards the dawn-lit skies. "I'm confident that you'll find someone of your kind. After all, people just don't disappear when their world is taken. I know that you'll find another Firefox. It will just take some time."
And with that, Louis gave a toothless grin to his new friend.

She didn't feel the need to pull away any more as he patted her paw with such sincerity. It appeared to her that he understood now what big of a deal it was that she had just told him her story. After that he tried to comfort her more by saying there had to be another Firefox out in one of the worlds. Sage didn't have the heart to tell him that she really didn't think that was true. This bat didn't know how many worlds she had searched, nor how many worlds were left for her to search. It seemed with a world disappearing nearly every month, her chances of finding a Firefox were now very slim.
The vampire chuckled at his new, simplistic nickname: Bat. T'was short, sweet, and to the point. He couldn't argue with that.
Ah, his story. A long story to tell, it was. Well, might as well and try to condense it so as not to bore his audience to her demise.
"My story is simple enough, my dear. I got bitten, sucked dry, converted, and fled my homeland to avoid persecution. It's been centuries since then, each passing year bringing me more knowledge and experience to hang on to."
Realizing his story came up a bit short compared to that of his foxy companion, he looked up to Sage and asked rather smoothly, "Does that work for you, or shall I go into detail?"
Post by sagefirefox on Jan 18, 2009 22:20:50 GMT -4
Sage sat still as she listened to his story. But he finished faster than she'd like and was going to ask another question when he offered to go into a more detailed description. She didn't really feel like she quite go what it was like to be a vampire yet, or how much of a struggle it really was so it was only natural for her to say yes. Not saying a single word, Sage looked at the bat and gave a short nod and a quick hum of a yes.
((Sorry it's short, 500th post and I'm taking it lazily~))
